The Crown in Croydon

Great English bar, we were there today, Sunday, and there was a game night, the man who directed the game was very friendly since we speak little English. It was a pleasure to be there. Thank you so much!!! thank you so much!!!

The pub it's self is nice but the food is so over priced and the portions are really small very disappointed

i went with a friend, and we went for brunch, I had scampi chips and peas, and my friend ordered a curry, they didn't have the one he ordered so he ordered the other.. His portion size looked small, and the peas with my scampi were over cooked, They also didn't have any tartare sauce and made something up with mayo and gherkins , and it wasn't as good as it used to be , it wasn't very busy, but the staff didnt come and remove the plates i ended up putting them on the bar, and they only had one non alcoholic pink gin ..I feel that this has gone down hill lately , i was a bit disappointed , as its been better in the past

Nice sized beer garden, good food.

I was disappointed with lunch. I ordered a roast vegetable Mediterranean salad, the dish the arrived was a basic salad that looked as if it came from a ready packet. I queried my order and it was replaced with a dish that still had the same salad, with additional vegetables that were not roasted. Very, very disappointing. So unfortunately I won’t be returning or recommending.

Haven’t been here for a while so decided to come to check it out and u was very disappointed. It wasn’t busy and still took 15 minutes before we got served! I could understand if it was busy but didn’t even get acknowledged. As a local I expected more. Won’t be coming back anytime soon.😞

The service and facilities for a function were ideal and the food was good value for money

Went with my family & grandchildren for few drinks and food. Refused to serve food in the bar area reason given was only had 2 chefs working and restaurant was busy. I would never go back. Used to he such a lovely place with friendly service gone downhill

Nice pub, reasonably priced and free parking. The food was a bit of a let down, chips were underdone (can't trust a place that gets chips wrong) and there was a 45 minute wait for food, though I appreciated them telling us that when we put the order in.

Food was decent, just think I got the steak wrong asking for medium well done. Everything else was fine I guess

Overall, a nice local. Prices are reasonable compared to inner London. There's nothing special on the menu, just fairly standard pub fare. But, it's all good quality and reasonably priced. The garden behind is pleasant - weather cooperating. The staff are pretty uniformly pleasant and helpful.

Had a meal and drinks here one evening just to find out two weeks later I got a parking fine for 100 pounds for parking in their car park. Very nice treatment of customers and a very expensive meal and drinks for me. I'm going to avoid this pub going forward.

Service is poor with a long wait. (Over an hour) Tables not cleaned and generally tatty, chairs torn, lampshades all bent. It could be such a good pub. Update. We were there last night and nothing has changed. 3 people behind the bar and with no one at the counter it still took nearly 5 mins to get served.😡 Another update. Bar staff are still not apparent but when you do there's one in particular that is very good. Tall guy with glasses, seams to know his stuff. Another update 19/05 , 5 bar staff and none trying ro serve. More interested in filling shelves and glasses 😔. On the upside there's a good atmosphere. Update 11/02. This pub has finally found a member of staff (BEN) who actually wants to serve customers. They are normally more interested in stacking shelves and collecting glasses. Well done Ben.😀

First time visit to The Crown for a meal and blown away. The Beef Rib was delicious and succulent. The staff very friendly and welcoming, great service guys. Thank you a lovely lunch.

Good place to go if driving as there is a car park there. Reasonably priced menu, and a range of ales (although not always) However, it can vary wildly in terms of service and availability of ales.

Only had a drink reasonable price. Bar person could have been a bit more welcoming rather than looking at his mobile. Manager was working hard. It’s a good clean pub and I’ve heard the food is really nice. I’ll certainly give it a try another day maybe I was just unlucky.

Popped in here for a little lunch just before Christmas. Most of the tables were reserved but the friendly bar staff pointed out a couple of free spots and served us drinks quickly and efficiently. The food came out in good time and was delicious. Such good portion sizes, too, which makes it good value for money. The venue itself is big, bright and cosy feeling, with lots of space and plenty of parking. It was so good, we came back again for lunch on New Year's Day and will definitely be back again in the future! Would recommend.

Wonderful Christmas Eve experience for our family, very welcoming atmosphere, Joseph the manager knew all about our reservation as we had booked in advance and he was expecting us, he had prepared a lovely big table with Christmas decorations and crackers, he let us play board games and allowed us to stay on for the live band afterwards, served us great Turkey dinner that included many fresh vegetables (not the usual frozen food you find everywhere else). Congratulations to Sarah who had prepared our booking, to Joseph on the night and to everyone who worked that evening.

Very busy due to Xmas and funeral party. Food arrived in good time and as always lovely. Only thing Crown could improve on is torn armchairs

I had a Breakfast with Santa with my 2 Grandsons. Santa was lovely and Jolly and very natural. The other staff were very friendly and helpful and very accomodating and careful to make sure 2 of our meals were dairy free. Don't think it could be improved!

I feel it's going downhill, sadly. For a long time this was the go-to pub for a decent meal and a pint, but recently that doesn't seem the case at all. Tonight only one ale (a poor London Pride) was on offer and the meals we had were awful at a very inflated price. Perhaps a sign of the tough economic times.

Went for our work xmas meal...service was shocking, starter and dessert was nice but the main meal was awful..ordered drinks had 15min wait..it was not busy only to be told machine wasnt working but could do hot drink in microwave...table wasnt cleared so sat with all dirty dishes on table..so dissapointed..spent £25 each which is a lot of money for such a let down.

Clean and tidy pub with plenty of room inside. Sunday staff were a little slow on keeping table service moving but the service provided was with a smile and very helpful. 2 course roast lunch was very reasonably priced, but I felt it lacked the freshly prepped and cooked taste that I've experienced in other local pubs.

Roast dinner smelt and tasted like a school dinner. Food was genuinely NASTY, aunt Bessie roast potato's and hard cubes of swede. Chicken leg was dry through to the bone it was inedible. Definitely a massive waste of money

Clean pub, could do with a refresh. Food is good value for money. I'm not sure the staff ever smile though, maybe it's me 🤔 Good sized beer garden, fair bit of parking too. Never seems to be much atmosphere, but generally I go there for a bit to eat and a couple of beers, so I don't want a rowdy bunch, it just seems a bit flat in terms of atmosphere. And yet the Railway pub in West Wickham, another Ember pub, has lots of atmosphere 🤷‍♂️

Been coming to this pub for a long time and have always loved it e went for a psychic night witch was pretty good but the new lady manager is extremely rude not only to the customers but to her colleagues witch is unprofessional the food has gone down hill it’s a shame as it’s always been a nice place.

As i dont live in Croydon or anywhere near west wickham road i found it an excellent place so at ease excellent n polite staff too and the regestering of the car in carpark such an excellent idea

Food was alright , my ribeye was as tough as a boot , rest was nice , the stella was lovely , service was slow

When I book a table for dinner, right at the start of the dinner service, I don't expect to be then told that there is going to be an hour wait minimum for food. Either your kitchen is terribly understaffed or you are taking far too many table bookings when there is no way you can deliver a decent service in that time. I was supposed to have the table from 5:30 to 7, so for two thirds of the booked time I am expected to sit hungry? Highly disappointing, I left with my party and found alternative arrangements as eating so late would ruin the rest of our plans for the evening. Not only that, it gets worse - this is the second time this has happened. On my first visit the wait was "40 minutes" and ended up being an hour, so I had no confidence that I would have been able to eat at all before I would need to leave. I gave you a second chance and you just proved you are incapable of organising an efficient or effective dinner service. I will not be returning again. I am part of an orchestra group that performs at the nearby Trinity School maybe two or three times a year. Together with our audience we bring maybe 200 people to the area around dinnertime, all potential guests for you. After such an awful experience (for a second time) I can tell you that I shan't be recommending you, in fact I will be advising that they stay away. Either sort out the mess in your kitchen, or warn people when they book that your service is very slow. It's not fair to take people's time like that.

Lovely pub, lovely atmosphere (very family friendly) food was lovely although could have bigger portions for the price especially the veg on sunday roast but burger and chips was tip top! Staff were absolutely lovely and went out of their way for any request for the kitchen or drinks orders. Outside area is really nice- love the little huts with heaters in! Wish I had taken the barmans name down to make an extra compliment for him as he went above and beyond for my Mrs who wanted tabasco with her bloody Mary which he hunted down and brought out to us at our table! Will be back and recommend for a nice chilled meal or just a casual drink with mates!

Enjoyed my visit food was good, drinks OK, atmosphere good although it was quiz night and we didn't participate. Toilets not good see comments later. Disappointed next day when I checked my bill in more detail to find I had been overcharged for drinks extra drink on the bill that we didn't have. I should have checked better before I paid.

The food was absolutely awful, nothing cooked from scratch, beef was like a leather belt (it was replaced but still inedible and didn't taste of beef at all), and you could taste the freezer in the potatoes. Bless the staff, though they were lovely and offered wine or pudding in replacement. Unfortunately, I was driving, and I'm not a pudding fan, so I couldn't take the offer. I used to go here for Sunday lunch when I lived in the area, and I remember it being amazing, I was so disappointed 😞

Customer service by Ben was exemplary. Greeted by his huge beautiful smile and knowledge of food and drinks.

We ordered fish and chips and the fish wasn't cooked. Also ordered two mediteranian salads and the salad was limp and the vegetables not chared and cooked the proper way. The food was very good last year but unfortunately the chef has left. We got a refund for our fish and chips as we complaint.

Always have the best time here! Amazing cocktails, food, staff & atmosphere. Big shoutout to Lucy who always serves us for making sure our experience is 10/10 every time!! The garden is perfect for summer nights, along with the heaters and huts for the colder months. I would definitely recommend the strawberry mojito :)

I only come here once every three months, I do enjoy it here, food great, staff great. Get here early for Sunday lunch. Fantastic beer garden. Large garden huts around the edge of the garden.

Was here last year for Soullife event which we didn't know was happening! The event itself we had no idea was happening on the night and we were in the garden - not asked to buy tickets until we came outside again. I was with 2 friends who live locally to this pub and know it. One of them drinks here a lot or used to and commented the food wasn't great. That night we tried to order food but too busy. Inside and outside for the event there just didn't seem to be enough staff and inside too. Can't fault the drinks as they seemed good. A few people were taking drugs there too at the event, not what I'd expect from a family pub with kids about in the evening. It's a pity as the pub/garden is nice but the decor inside especially toilets is awful.

Had a amazing experience at 'The Crown', the food was of very good quality, the service was quick and overall the food/drink was great value for money. The garden was lovely, a great way to spend a summer's day. . I look forward to returning to 'The Crown' very soon, I would highly recommend 'The Crown' as a great place to visit.

I really liked this pub, the food is great and the bangers and mash comes with onion rings (best I’ve tried in a while). The atmosphere is chill and familiar on Wednesdays they do Curry night and quizzes on Thrusday if I’m not wrong. Definitely will come back. Great place!

Nice looking pub from the outside. Tired inside. Food was poor to average at best. Mushroom starters and onion rings just tasted of grease. Gammon was undercooked and tasteless, while the eggs were overcooked to the point of rubber. Excessive wait (nearly an hour) for it to arrive. No offer of mustard, mayo, salad cream, etc. Just salt, vinegar, and a grotty looking bottle of tomato sauce. No offer of replacement cutlery between courses either. Would have happily sent the lot back, but my other half didn't want a scene. Tables left uncleared after diners left. Our server was abrupt to the point of rudeness (think he was the manager). Gents had a pond in it. OK, to sit outside with a pint, but wouldn't eat there again. **Fully expect the standard copy and paste response others have had from the pub with no interest in actually taking the feedback on board.

Shame I couldn’t give half a star. Terrible customer service, poor excuses for lack of drinks availability, some dishes not available on menu, salad came with no dressing and no real apology or offer of refund, Beer glasses dirty. Beer garden full of litter. Just amazed how the staff thought that was acceptable, wouldn’t go again if my life depended on it.

We booked at table for 3:30pm table was not ready even though i paid £20.00 deposit. We orders food but waited over 50 minute and still no food bought out but other table after us were getting food. No update on kitchen running late from management or staff, management did refund and apologies but to late. Staff swearing and joking around while children about. Never got my £20.00 deposit back. Will not be back or suggest friends and family to visit Only second time going there we enjoyed out first visit that's why we returned.

I came here to celebrate my daughter's 🎂 🥳 birthday. While the food was good, I was not pleased with the way the manager treated me when I enquired about deals and offers, i.e., free presecco, etc. He thought it was a big deal to offer free presecco! I don't even know whether he included it in. No one had the courtsey to ask us if we enjoyed the meal or clear the tables. My elderly mum's carer ended up clearing the tables. I spent £80, and a complimentary drink would have helped. We will definitely go elsewhere in the future, where we are treated with dignity and respect. However, Joseph, the other manager, is very kind, courteous, and presentable. The management and staff certainly need some person centred and interpersonal skills training. It doesn't cost to smile and treat customers in a humane way.

Surpassed yourselves today. Food arrived 90 minutes after ordering, 2 burgers, fish and chips and 2 roasts, not exactly gourmet, all overcooked (so was clearly available earlier). Shame, the bar staff are great and have take the brunt for the poorly managed kitchen.

Saturday lunch really nice .Nice garden hot 🔥

We ordered using the app, 2 orders to the same table. Unfortunatley one of those orders didnt go through so half of our party was without food. We chased and one member of staff said it was coming. Waited again and asked the supervisor who investigated and said that the order didnt go to their system due to a glitch. That order we cancelled the food and had puddings only. The manager was happy to refund the missing food and was very helpful and apologetic. We ordered drinks on the app and after 20 minutes they didnt arrive so we went to the bar and got them. When our food arrived a waitress bought the drinks which we then sent back. The food was okay, however the roast potatos were hard and the carrots had seen better days, we were told we had to wait around half an hour for food after ordering. It arrived 40 minutes later. The childs sunday dinner was £6 and it was the same size as the adults which was around £10 more. The puddings didnt really have much taste other than the brownie which was nice.

Joe and the team at The Crown are amazing. It has been a pleasure to dine here for Sunday Roasts with family and friends.

It was our anniversary and we decided to go for a meal at The Crown as I had heard good reviews about it lately. We did have a slight issue with the menu but after speaking to the waitress and the deputy manager (my apologies for not noting both of your names) everything was solved and ordered to our satisfaction. I do think they need to add at least one more vegetarian option to the evening set menu (the lunch menu has three options) but understand that they are part of a chain and that they no doubt have certain restrictions. However the food was of a very good standard, staff were attentive and friendly and we had a very enjoyable evening. Will definitely return in future. Thank you.
