The Fox in Croydon

We had an excellent Sunday lunch today….the roast beef and potatoes delicious. The kids menu and food was good. The atmosphere was warm, cosy & inviting. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Booked a table for 4 Christmas Day was told we had to pay a week before for meal or booking would not be secure. Daughter paid a week before, never heard of paying for a service before we’ve had it but did not want to lose table. Meal was ok not great was so rushed we were served and out within 40 min and you had the cheek to charge £30 service charge will never eat here again because of this

What has happened to the Fox pub. We have had good meals there for many months. Sadly last night was by pretty much rubbish. Firstly ambiance and service are good. The food was not good. I had the turkey from festive menu which was overpriced The veg were soggy that included the potatoes and parsnips. The Yorkshire was tough. The gravy was cold. Turkey meat was ok. The meat pie had very tough meat. The steak was chewy. Many choices on the menu were unavailable very bad planning in a Saturday night at 6 Such a shame as food had got so much better.

Had a wonderful group xmas meal here. Service and food were great, wonderful portion sizes and good value for money

Delicious crispy and very tasty calamari starter - will definitely be back for those! Pork belly roast dinner, scrumptious and a very substantial portion.

Friendly and welcoming staff, Eloise, Bella, Tracy and Destiny were all very attentive. We enjoyed wonderful food, and a lovely festive atmosphere.

Lovely food, top notch Mocha coffee I've ever had anywhere in Surrey.

I have scanned previous reviews and I am incredulous that the vast majority are favourable. I visited the establishment on Saturday 14th December 2024 for dinner with two friends. I ordered the steak and venison pie with mash and roasted vegetables. I asked the waitress if I could have chips instead of mash. She assured me that this would be possible. When the meal arrived it looked okay so I cut into the pie. The meat under the pastry was a tangled mass of tough gristly matter. I called the waitress who offered a replacement meal. I said I was happy with the chips but would like the turkey. The last turkey meal had been taken so I ordered the so-called chicken schnitzel. I thought you cannot go wrong with chicken but the Fox managed it. The offering was sickly and ghastly. Nobody subsequently asked me if I was happy with the meal. I ate half the chicken but could not stomach any more. A member of my party was always going to pay for my meal so I said nothing at the till to save his embarrassment. Ideally the Fox should reimburse me and my friend for such shabby treatment. I should add that the meals are vastly overpriced in the first place.

Good quality food, great atmosphere, friendly staff who were very helpful.

Had a lovely time, hostess Eloise was amazing and brought the best atmosphere to our dinner.

Really well decorated for Christmas, asked if we could have a Christmas Cracker for my young sons and staff happy to oblige. Friendly, good food and fair value. AND FINALLY a good guest ale rather than the boring usual mainstream yawn ales.

Fabulous family lunch today at The Fox near Coulsdon. We came in with muddy boots from a walk on The Downs. Party of three adults, one five year old and babe in arms. Warm friendly greeting from our server Eloise. Nothing was too much trouble. Delicious food with friendly professional service. Brilliant interaction with both adults and children. We will be back. No heating when we booked a Festive meal. Seated in the cold without fire or working radiators. I expected better from you guys.🙃

Such a shame that this pub is not just round the corner as, if we could walk here, I am sure that we would become regulars. One of the best pubs in the area.

Very nice but expensive cuisine.

All staff were lovely, friendly and efficient, thank you. We were a party of 8 with 3 children under 7 so when ordering it was a little muddled but our server coped brilliantly.

Visited the fox over the weekend. What a lovely pub! The food was great. The atmosphere was lovely and so were the staff!!

This place is just so cosy after a walk in the valley. Staff are always extremely friendly and welcoming. The sandwiches are lovely too and great value for money, we didnt realise they came with fries which was even better! The fairy lights in side and the cost fires are lovely. Yes the outside can do with a touch of paint but after speaking to the bartender about it - he advised it was getting done in the spring next year! We will certainly be coming back soon

Food was good. Service was good. 30% discount was good. The restaurant was a bit cold. Just putting heating on for an hour would take the nip out of the air.

The staff are amazing always friendly and helpful. Especially Jack, he is always happy and remembers what we drink. He was brilliant when he did the sponsored cycle ride.

We have visited the fox on several occasions, but our visit on Sunday the 27th of October was a very different experience. Firstly, the pub was virtually empty with numerous members of staff available. We were seated on a table under bright spotlights, when we politely asked to move to another table we were told it was booked (no one else was in the area we were in sat and no one else arrived during our meal.) The room was cold. I ordered vegetable Wellington. The Wellington was an overcooked strip of flaky pastry separate from the vegetable component which was a solid square of a tasteless hard textured substance, I could not identify. The vegetables were OK. In hindsight I should have returned the meal, but I was hungry so ate the vegetables. My husbands sea bass with king Prawn was equally disappointing. Several waiting staff served us and with the exception of the person who refused to offer us another table in an empty restaurant they were pleasant and polite.

Everything is great about the place except the external decor. It's really looking a little bit tired and could do with a lick of paint.

Ordered off the weekend treats menu. For starter I had the backed scallops and shrimp was bland with no flavour was supposed to come with tobacco in it couldn’t taste nothing. For main I had “ribeye” steak very tough and looked a lot like rump. Then got a new steak which was a sirloin and was rare when I had asked for medium rare. Contrast to the other courses the chocolate trio was very nice which bumped the rating up to a 2 star. Overall I will not be coming back to eat here again very disappointed with the food quality and

Gorgeous little country pub oozing with rustic charm. We had the steak and ale pie after a walk around the Happy Valley. We'll definitely be back again!

Booked a table in the dog friendly area, but they had live music on which made it far too loud to stay inside. Went outside instead, chose our meals, went to the bar to order & was told it would be an hour's wait for food - might have been ok if we were inside, but sitting outside with my 84 year-old Mum was not going to be ok, so we left and went elsewhere. There was nothing about the live music on the website, though apparently it was on their social media (why would I go on there if all I wanted to do was book a table)

Will definitely be coming back very soon and that’s all because of Katie, her service was amazing and to be honest the real reason I will be coming back. The fox are very lucky to have someone like Katie part of the team!!!

Beautiful interior, looked just the place to enjoy a meal. Exterior didn't seem to have changed much since last visit, some 5yrs ago. V.large garden area, unfortunately sun kept off it as surrounded by tall thick trees. Drinks, had one and left. At £6.70 a pint, thought having more would be financially unwise. Pub has a bus stop close by, so if for instance travelling from Croydon, The Fox is easilly accessible, leave the car at home.

Oliver was the sweetest and most efficient server. And food cooked by Jamie was delicious - what a duo ;)

The fox is one of the best pubs I have visited from the moment you walk in, the staff welcome you . Bar staff, restaurant staff and kitchen staff are all very friendly and will go above and beyond . Thankyou, I shall be returning .

This venue is very cozy and left a very good impression on the people I bring there. Hospitable hosts & delicious food. Would like to thank Destiny in particular for being such a wonderful worker, made our visit even more worthwhile the travelling! I recommend to everyone! We had Sunday lunch at The Fox to celebrate a family birthday. We were given a lovely big table that gave us lots of space. The atmosphere was really chilled- we could take our time and enjoy our meal. The waiters were really attentive and friendly whilst still giving us space. We were served by Katie and Destiny, who were very thoughtful with special requests that we had.

A warm welcome by genuinely lovely friendly people. We usually call in at least once weekly to sample the good selection of beers and food on offer. It's a lovely relaxing atmosphere where you can watch the world pass by and enjoy an excellent choice of meals and drinks. There is plenty of free parking on site. Lynn

We had Sunday lunch but unfortunately their allergies policy means they can't guarantee any traces won't be picked up. So one of our group who's gluten intolerant couldn't have anything from the kitchen. We should have checked before but many kitchens now have separate areas to allow for this. The fox doesn't do this so that was disappointing as the person who missed out has to sit there with a bag of crisps. I know it's policy so maybe make this much clearer next time. Sept 2024

Great atmosphere, dog friendly. Had dinner with my daughter, kids meal was hot, ploughmans for myself and the mac side was tasty! Destiny and Jake both did an excellent job looking after us.
