Coombe Lodge in Croydon

Took a large group (30+) here for breakfast. Great value for money and good choice available for people who want more than just a cooked breakfast option. The staff were very helpful and friendly and lots of free parking available too

Not a great experience. Service was insanely slow and we had to go and find staff constantly to move things along. The food was ok, the chips were cold but the burger was nice. Toilets are in horrendous condition and need examining asap. Wouldn’t go back

We had a very good meal at Coombe Lodge. We both had the surf & turf and both steaks were cooked exactly as requested, one medium, one rare. Our waitress, Dani, was very helpful and attentive. Our only slight gripe was that the tables were sticky. We moved from our original table to a somewhat less sticky one, but it still made it feel rather like a Wetherspoons pub, where the carpets, tables, bar etc are always sticky. Dani explained that it is caused by the cleaning solution that they use to wipe down the tables. However, it did not greatly reduce our enjoyment of the meal

8 of us went in for lunch. I went in the bar to get a beer to be told it was closed. I asked how you could get a drink and was told "sit at a table". ordered drinks, got them 15 minutes later. Ordered a beefburger and chips, got it 50 minutes later. Did not need to follow signs to go to the gents, just follow your nose and you could smell it. floor flooded with water and you have to go through the kitchen / serving area to get to it. Burger was ok, chips cold. why serve it on top of a bit of paper on the plate? Lots of people sat waiting to be served looking peeved.

Wouldn’t go back here. Waited ages for service, the restaurant was dirty and the food was cold.

Food was served quickly, I had the crunchy chicken burger which was very nice, my husband had the surf & Turf unfortunately it was very poor, the steak was full of fat, cold and tasteless. The 2 prawns on top of the steak were also tasteless. We ordered dessert and they arrived swiftly but didn’t look like the advertised picture on the menu. But they did taste nice. The waitress was very friendly and professional I believe her name was Danijela according to our receipt

I didn't get the chance to eat because the attitude of the guy it would have been a table for 1 me. The bigger parties of people 6 /7 it was no problem to him and then me he said do you want to eat in the bar which of course I didn't otherwise I would have went in there my self by he's attitude it sounded like he didn't want me in restaurant because I was on my own so I said forget it I'll go somewhere else. he was so off putting and pathetic I'll be telling other people as well what happened I've been going there for over 30 years and never had a problem. but never again there loss not mine.

The food, drinks were amazing however due to being under staffed we were rushed to eat and leave and the waiter made a mess and got cheese cake on our jackets and didn’t seem to care much, very rushed and barely got a word in as we’re all rushed and pressured to choose what we’d all like to eat

We regularly come to the Beefeater Coombe Lodge, not only because the food is amazing, but because of the outstanding service given by Sheila. Always there with a friendly smile. She goes above and beyond to ensure we have a fantastic dining experience. Thank you Sheila, we will be back!

Had a lovely salmon dish and We were waited on by two very friendly staff Sheila and George nothing was to much trouble for them

Food was nice. Nicala was our waitress and such a lovely kind lady. Really lovely to the kids we had and had time to listen to them. Thank you, you deserve a pay rise!! Garden needs mowing but otherwise all round good experience.

Lot of good food. Great care taken over daughter’s 15 food allergies. Lovely helpful waitress Dani. Downside husband’s steak was a bit tough and my fries were barely warm. Very nice surroundings and atmosphere.

Two of us went for dinner on Saturday night. We both ordered from the two courses and a drink for under £20 menu. Our starters were chicken goujons and breaded mushrooms. Both were really hot freshly cooked and tasty. One small negative was that the breaded mushrooms were so well cooked, that the only way to eat them was to pick them up and dip them in the barbecue sauce because you physically couldn't cut through them with a knife. That said, they were really tasty. Main courses were fish and chips and chicken melt. Again both were really tasty, initially looked like there wasn't enough chips but on eating the meal we wouldn't have needed anymore. The service was good, both of the people that were looking after us were really friendly and attentive. The only downside was that after the meal, I had to use the bathroom and they were absolutely disgusting. The odour and the state of them was appalling. Would have given five stars had it not been for the toilets but they need some serious attention. I was even more concerned about the poor quality and hygiene of the toilets considering they are in very close proximity to the kitchen. It's a shame that I actually went to the bathroom, because that tarnish the whole experience really, had it not been for that it would have been a 10 out of 10.

What a shame long waits disengaged staff over cooked food first and last visit

Terrible (lack of) service! 04/02/25 I arrived around 18:45 was sat down to a table and drinks order taken at 18:55. The gentleman who was behind me when waiting for a table was sat not too far from me and he proceeded to have his drink and starter arrive before I had even had my drink, this was 19:25. I ended up leaving and ordering take out. Steak dinner plans failed. I even beckoned for a waiter/ess a few times but I just seemed to be invincible.

Went there for dinner. It's a lovely restaurant and the waitress was lovely as well. We had Rump steak - medium rare - and grill platter ( pic you see is halfway through our dinner 😁). Double espressos were hot, and that is always a bonus.

Beautiful historic building slightly gone to seed. In terms of the interior decor it is nice with a lovely conservatory and Beautiful wood panelled dining rooms. Beefeater food is okay they do quite a good breakfast.

This was the third time I’ve taken kids for breakfast. You can’t fault the price for breakfast as kids eat free, but there are definitely improvements that could and should be made. Previously the full breakfast was a buffet, they’ve now changed to individual orders. I therefore expected the food to be freshly prepared but it clearly wasn’t, most items were lukewarm. The coffee machine wasn’t working and the coffee provided was again lukewarm. The croissants were stale. There is one domestic 2 slice toaster for the whole restaurant which takes around 7 minutes to toast, imagine the queues. As the bread had been in so long it wasn’t just toasted on the outside, it was a completely dried out husk. The staff are aware of this so why isn’t it replaced? Preferably with a hotel style rotating grill toaster. Plus points, as well as the price, are the staff, who are cheerful, friendly and efficient.

Outstanding service received by staff member Connor, and very good food and fresh drinks received within no time at all, nightly recommend to any travellers, great friendly atmosphere.

Firstly, the staff in this Beefeater were friendly and helpful. This review is no reflection on them. Coombe Lodge is an old building but Beefeater have let it go into decline. Furnishings are outdated and tired, not very welcoming. I ordered a pint of Moretti which was sour, then a Peroni which was also off. Finally I had a pint of Stella which was ok. Its obvious they don't sell a lot of beer so its likely been sitting in the barrel for a while. Dinner (for 6 of us) was of a very poor standard. Poor quality ingredients, lack of quantity and also expensive. Steak was small, containing gristle, dried out veg and peas. Gravy was of a watery consistency. All of the others in my party also said their food was dreadful. I really don't know how Beefeater can serve such a poor meal and alcohol that is clearly on its way out. The whole place needs an overhaul.

Called about an event, emailed about an event twice. No response from two weeks ago even though I was told i would be called within 48 hours.

Casual night out, although surprised that the bar closed early despite the website stated closing time was 10.30 they closed at 8.45.

To say we were disappointed was an understatement. My family and I have attended Coombe Lodge for the past 10 plus years for Boxing Day. Approx 15 people each time. This year is the last time we will be attending. We were at our table over 2 hours to be asked if we wanted a drink once. The waiters and waitresses were completely over being there, the roast dinner was all cooked from frozen and barely tasted of anything. Desserts shocking too. It was meant to be crumble for pudding but came out as pie…. Oh and both mains and desserts were cold. Toilets were also completely flooded leaving a smell running out into the kitchens into the restaurant. Honestly it was like an old people’s home. What’s happened!?!?! We really loved going here prior to today, we won’t be returning.

Had Christmas dinner there this year , food was decent and the service was great Nicola was a lot of fun and a great server .

Poor service and attitude all round - been coming here for many years and gradually it’s gotten worse and worse. But this year was the final straw. We booked a Christmas party of 16 people - they accused us of being late when they themselves messed up their booking system. Unbelievably many items on their Christmas menu was not even available. First time in my life I was presented with a menu showing “Unavailable items” and there were many. For the food that was available - it was mediocre at best as if it’s been microwaved. And we were hurried to order as their chefs stop cooking at 9pm. The only decent thing was the waiter who unfairly had to take the heat for his manager’s incompetence and was very respectful, polite and apologetic. The boss sadly wasn’t.

We have just had a quick lunch here, it’s consistently good. We always pretty much have the same thing when we come, because it’s so good. Great tasting steak, cooked superbly and for a great price. The staff always give you a really good welcome and are very friendly, today was no exception. We are staying in the hotel next door overnight and we are booked in for breakfast. Again, consistently good, you just know it’s going to be so, and we are looking forward to it.

Visited with a Carers group on Friday 13th December for our Pre- Christmas lunch and Christmas Festive meal. It was the first time visiting and there is no reason to visit again. The staff were dressed smartly and pleasant but thin on the ground, which meant the wait for everything was long. This resulted in one of our members having to leave without having their pudding which was taking forever to be served. Their previously booked taxi had arrived to collect them. After ordering the main and again waiting, we were told there was no Turkey due to an ammonia leak? It was after 1pm. Why they never knew about it before to inform persons who had booked, I don't know. They never had ribs, roast potatoes or cauliflower cheese. My Turf and surf was very disappointing. Poor quality, to taste bland, over cooked calamari, prawns that were tough and tasteless. One mushroom that was black and old. Chips were not nice. The steak was bland but edible. The server had to be asked if there was any condiments, before bringing only salt and pepper. The Christmas pudding had a very mean thin coating of brandy sauce that barely touched the plate. I was expecting better food presentation and quality of food. I was very disappointed.

The place looks good, the staff were friendly and helpful. My starter was nice. The main event though, Turkey dinner was very poor. There was not much Turkey and very thin sliced. The very was frozen, including frozen sprouts, the worst frozen food imaginable. I love real sprouts. Christmas pudding was small but what I expected I'm not into dessert anyway.

Over the years this restaurant has always been a family favourite for celebrations, catch ups and other special occasions, and easy location for all to get too, HOWEVER it's highly unlikely we will ever be returning again, today whilst the restaurant was quiet, so to give context their was probably about 3 other tables with customer on, I ordered my son sausages from the kids menu, and they turned up looking a bit pale, cut into them and raw .. yes completely RAW in the middle, the server who in all fairness apologiesed and took it straight back to the kitchen then openly admitted she knew they would be when she served them and thought they could of been raw, why would you in any form serve raw sausages to a 3 year old. Then asking if I want to speak the manager.... Surely you know your staff has just served raw food you would come and apologise NOPE. The server yes did apologise but truly more awareness and care should of been taken the restaurant has declined and certainly not the same level of service

The worst meal I've had. Ordered a Prawn Cocktail and it was the worst Prawn Cocktail I have ever had no sauce prawns were tasteless lettuce was yuk then I had steak diane and ordered a side order of Cauliflower Cheese which came up dry no Cheese sauce steak was luke warm got another Cauliflower Cheese loads of cheese sauce but some of the Cauliflower was cold probably been microwaved. I will not be going back there and I feel sorry for anyone who has booked there Xmas Dinner there worst dinner ever. Don't go there.

This restaurant is quaintly located on a site with a Premier Inn. After a brief wait in welcome area, we were seated and well looked after by the waiting staff. Our meals and drinks were excellent.

We had breakfast as part of the Premier inn package. The atmosphere was great, staff lovely but the food was not so great. I did see that they had an issue in the kitchen at the time, so that might have been why.

I came to eat alone as am staying in the adjoining Premier Inn hotel. My waiter for the evening was George who went above and beyond for all the customers in my seating area. There was a table with a young family opposite me who George really did do his utmost for and I heard them say this themselves. The food was fantastic, I had the 50 chicken Oscar and the gluten free New York cheesecake with a glass of house wine. All part of the meal deal from the Premier Inn and all of it delicious! I have stayed here before and enjoyed it just as much then as well. Thank you George, Bartek and Ant for making my evening so lovely, even when alone. And compliments to the chef!

Very quiet on a Saturday lunchtime. Just popped in for a beer and a snack during an 8 mile walk. Excellently cooked onion rings - simple, but easily ruined. Crisp, hot and soft onion inside.

Nice, pleasant early evening meal in the picturesque Coombe lodge. Leisurely dinner in one of the many rooms available It was about 6ish so a little early, but as the few customers were spread out so far there was no atmosphere. The food was good, but nothing special. The desserts just lacked that excitement ( a little bland) The service was pleasant and the establishment is lovely surrounded by the woods.

As always an excellent meal. Very good service from Sheila, who is always so professional, courteous and helpful. Considering there was just herself and George on duty this evening the service was superb. Good food and served promptly. Thank you Sheila and the chef for a lovely meal and evening.

Great pub for a family meal or just a drink. Lovely service and always welcoming. Relaxed and friendly.

The food was awful the kids meal were not even edible and the adult means were so under cooked the meat was raw still all at a cost of 107 pounds I will never be returning to that branch

Lovely Sunday dinner and great service from George. The roast was so good and fairly priced. Will definitely go again for dinner.

I stayed at the south Croydon Premier inn after a wedding and had my breakfast here. The building is beautiful, inside and out. The food was lovely and staff were very attentive and polite

We had our wedding here today (2nd October 2024)! And it was absolutely beautiful!! We booked out the conservatory function room and we absolutely loved it!! Connor was absolutely amazing and so helpful - he made the day run really smoothly and was so kind and thoughtful. The food and drinks were amazing too. Can’t recommend enough, thanks so much for everything :)

We have often had a lovely breakfast at this Beefeater and some great summer lunches in the garden. This weekend, Kate greeted us with the usual warm and friendly welcome, the chef helpfully prepared a veggie alternative to the cooked meats and everything was top notch!

Friend had arranged to celebrate her 50th birthday with 20 friends and family. A separate room was set up which was a great idea however it was freezing as the heating was not working. Booking was from 3pm and after around an hour someone finally arrived to ask if we wanted any drinks. Most had already purchased from the bar due to the wait. Food orders were not taken until gone 4pm and then we were informed that some items were not available . There was one meal missing and when it arrived was almost inedible. Staff were not too helpful or fussed and made excuses about staff shortage. The bill was discounted due to the complaints from family members however I don't think anyone will be rushing back in the near future.

No one to greet us upon arrival. A very fed up looking man eventually turned up and showed us to a table, with very little words spoken. Waited 40 minutes to get a drink, let alone a starter. Food was just about edible, but poor. Halloumi fries looked and tasted as though they had been cooked 2 or 3 times. Steak had a funny taste. Peas had gone hard, I think they had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Beans had a crust, probably also due to a lamp. Gravy had poor consistency, very watery. Pie was hard. Food was lukewarm. The place looked and felt grubby. Heavily stained chairs and carpets, and everything you touch is sticky. Chairs, table, menus. It's pretty gross actually. We were sat in the middle of 2 very large and noisy groups. The waiter was clearly rushed off his feet, and apologised for the wait. We waited far too long for food and drinks. If they can't cater for a number of large parties a long with smaller tables and uphold good standards, perhaps they shouldn't keep accepting bookings. Won't be going back, it's really not a very nice place to eat.

Must have picked a particularly busy day (Sunday 5.30pm) service was slow starters appeared after 40 minutes before any drinks arrived. Halloumi fries seemed to have been fried about 3 times very crunchy & verging on burnt. My pie had rock hard pastry & peas had a hard look suggesting they had been sitting under a heat lamp not inedible just disappointing. The restaurant was very busy with several big parties. Our waiter was very apologetic he was rushed off his feet. The table next to ours left before they ate, our room was particularly noisy. Begs the question if there are big parties booked why take more bookings if they can't cope

Nice and quiet spot if you ever want a chilled meal with friends and family. Reasonable prices for food + the garden area is great in the summer. The mixed grill is good deal is you like steak. And they have plenty of other vegan/veggie alternatives.

Always nice to have breakfast there with friends. Free breakfast for kids

Had a 40% off voucher so decided to treat myself to a late birthday meal. Was served by a young, friendly waiter called George. Took my order promptly and the food was delicious. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit.

We were here to celebrate a family birthday and the team couldn't do enough to help us celebrate. The food arrived promptly and there was plenty of choice on the menu for all. Very much looking forward to returning

Lovely building and gardens in an appealing woodland location. Sadly the decor and interior are very tired and do the venue a disservice. Service was OK but the food was truly, absolutely, unacceptably awful. I'd have expected more for what they charge, which certainly does not represent value. Really poor.

We went for lunch today. We've been asked if we have reservation, I said we don't. He send us to the bar upon seating no one attended to us. We ask for the menu and we've been waiting for so long and no one get back to us. We are like invisible as the waiters don't bother to ask and to check us. They just ignore us. What a really really bad customer service!

We had our dad's wake in the large conservatory and on arrival the room was set up as we had discussed and the food promptly arrived within 20mins. The food was piping hot and well presented. Tea, coffee and soft drinks were replenished when requested as so was some extra food that we requested. The staff were so helpful and Jordan was exceptional when first arranging the reservation and also on the day. Thank you from all our family for making our afternoon a lovely time to remember our dad altogether in a lovely setting.

Very friendly staff and great service 10/10 there. The food was ok, no real issues, wasn’t cold ect. But price wise I’ve had better value for money. Lots of parking available as well.

Quiet for a Sunday. Food was lovely. Loads of choice for the 4 of us. Rooms were bright and airy on a warm day. Sunday roast and main menu available. An enjoyable couple of hours for a decent price. Would recommend.

Had Sunday lunch here with family. Roasts were lovely and the chicken salad was very tasty. Let down a bit by the prawn cocktail starters as they were very bland hardly any sauce on it and what there was, was really watery and tasteless. Other than this the rest was fantastic as was our waiter, George, so big shout out to him. He was very attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble, he is a great asset to your staff. Will definitely be returning.

The food was top notch and well prepared as requested. The main course was more than enough, but not too large that meant you could also enjoy a dessert as well. There was a lunchtime menu offer too that was very well priced. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

A typical tavern food truck away in the woods. Came for lunch and the set lunch was only £8 onwards. Good value.

Callum the waiter quick to sit , drinks order and food order . Burgers were emense as usual and lovely charcoal flavour and cooked medium. Apparently Greg is normally the chef and who definitely takes pride in his work .

Good place for a few drinks, nothing special.

Hubby organised a surprise anniversary meal as we had our first date here , and England were playing well had our phones out watching as did many others so atmosphere was interesting 😂, staff were absolutely amazing very helpful ,very patient as 3of our party were late and we were the last to leave (sorry) , food was yummy and can definitely recommend the cocktails

Went back after several years away and parts have been altered, and some of the areas closed off. Gone is the cosy relaxing atmosphere and the colour scheme where we sat was cold and uninviting. Food very tasty though and the service was good, although it was quiet. We were down from the Midlands and were so looking forward to going to what used to be our fave place to eat and were disappointed.

Been to Coombe Lodge many times. Pretty good and the service is usually very good. Sometimes they don't have everything on the menu, so no 5th star. Draught cider excellent. Worth a visit.

This spot is great for a lunch time/dinner get together. Went their for lunch with a friend and was by Jenny the waitress. Excellent service with a smile. The food was on par and was not disappointed. I will be going back

Unusual not to allow dogs at all, even outside considering the surrounding dog walking areas.

Great food for the money anyone expecting the ritz go somewhere else cheep food for what you get and always cooked well. Service always good as well.

Personally I would not rush to visit this location to be honest. Food is very poor, I had the ultimate roast and could only really eat the chicken and some of the beef the lamb was just not edible god knows how it was prepared, roast potatoes weren’t really roasted at all and Yorkshire all soggy and food barely warm. My daughter had the 8oz filet which after the second attempt they still served it not cooked as requested. We were a party of 7 and I think only two of use enjoyed the meals. Irish coffee was the best part of my visit today how sad…….

Amazing service from my waitress. Really kind, friendly and welcoming. Amazing cheeseburger and chips as a quick stop before going to an appointment. Keep up the amazing experience! Would give 10 stars if I could!

Good food lovely service and beautiful building

This beefeater is so nice. The staff the restaurant and the food was 5* . We both had the beef and ale pie tonight and a bottle of wine. It was a very good price added by the fact we could use the bluelight discount too. Callum looked after us and he was very polite and made sure we were happy with our food and drinks. Excellent staff member as well as the other 2 ladies who worked there tonight along side him. We will definitely be coming back
