Enjoyed a great fish & chips meal here over the weekend. Also the "North Bay" real ale was exceptional. Prompt service and friendly staff, we'll be back!

Had a 5 day stay in one of their rooms. What a great place to stay, friendly staff and a great welcome. We were in room 2 which had the harbour view through a bay window and side window. Room was a great size with daily refreshed coffee tea and biscuits. The breakfast was freshly cooked and to a good standard. Location for the entire town was superb.

Really disappointed with our meal, I ordered a soup and was shocked, to say the least, about the portion size , literally half a bowl and when I asked the waiter if it was a mistake he replied that it was head office that control the portion size!!!! Shocking , considering I was charged £6.50 for literally 5 spoonfuls. Prices have risen so much in the last year, ridiculous! Unfortunately the pub lacks atmosphere and we won’t be back! Such a shame as we The Bay but there is a need for a decent pub whose sole purpose is not to rip you off!

Came here today - one of our kids knocked the table which resulted in a full pint (only one sip taken!!) and a coke being spilled. The staff cleaned up the glass then replaced the drinks for free. Actually amazed by the gesture. Our boys are autistic and can easily be triggered - we were ready for ww3 cos one had smashed to glasses. Felt I needed to leave a review because this act of kindness from the staff at the old silver grid has made a massive impact on the kids and our stay. Thanks again x

Terrible experience. Horrible atmosphere as soon as we walked in. The guy working there had an attitude problem, shouting at the young female waitress and telling the whole cafe that it was her second day. Had an argument with two other customers as they'd been waiting a while for two cups of tea. Even the customer said that he is stressed and he didn't like that and began arguing. Getting all the orders wrong and blaming the young waitress. Stated he is not taking anymore orders even though I'd been sat on the table and my mum ordered just before me. I had to tell him we were together. Such an uncomfortable atmosphere. How he works in hospitality/customer service is beyond me. Clearly the wrong industry. The poor staff, clearly not a very good trainer, but not his fault. AVOID as you'll only be left disappointed and leaving with a headache.

We have regularly visited for lunch. Today very very disappointed with our lunch. Ordered scampi. This was not scampi, not sure what it was looked like something spongy. We should have complained at once but both hungry. We had already waited nearly 30 minutes after ordering and had already enquired where are order was. As regular customers we know that service is always slow and haphazard. There never seems to be enough staff or organisation at the counter. Altogether a very disappointing experience.

We called and booked afternoon tea for 4 people last night to have today at 2pm. I asked for a quiet area to sit as my mother is part way through chemo. We also asked for no fishy sandwiches. We arrived slightly early but I advised reception that we were here for afternoon tea, they didn’t seem to know anything about it but we were told to wait in the lounge which was no problem, we could not buy a drink as the bar wasn’t open, so we sat and waited, the manager came and said they were just preparing it and would come and fetch us when it was ready. We waited and waited and at 2.20 my father chased it up it was then brought to us in the lounge area around 2.30 and served on a coffee table with no room for it and with salmon sandwiches. I then advised that we didn’t like the salmon sandwiches so the waiter took away the whole afternoon tea and we had to wait another 15 or so minutes to come back. It’s was absolutely disgusting, apparently the scones were freshly baked and warm when in actual fact they were rock hard and stone cold and stale and looked straight out of a packet, there was barely enough cream to spread a very thin layer on some was that hard they were inedible. The white sandwiches were stale, they egg mayonnaise sandwiches were slimy and the small cakes were still frozen. I’m quite sure they forgot we were coming and threw whatever they could together. I don’t mean to be rude or nasty but the gentleman that served us was very unkept and had an awful odour. I informed reception when I paid the bill and can 100% confirm I will not be recommending or returning. This was a very disappointing as this was the first break and outing since my mother’s diagnosis, and was definitely the worse experience of afternoon tea I’ve ever encountered.

I went in at 09.30 for a takeaway latte only to be told that 'the coffee machine was warming up' and to come back at ten. The man could have simply staged that they don't open until 10am, but the door was wide open so I thought they were open. Shame as I was looking forward to a nice latte. I went elsewhere and probably won't come back to Viking. A shame

This has got to be the worst room I have ever stayed in. Dirty floors, dead spider behind bathroom door, wallpaper peeling off, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, mould in the shower. This place is not just basic it's filthy. Don't waste your money.

We stopped by here to get a drink after visiting the station. Very empty when we arrived. It turns out that they had just closed for the afternoon. However, the gentleman behind the bar still served us. Cost £13.50 for a glass of wine and a pint of shandy though! Had our drinks outside as they locked up after we were served.
