Had a 5 day stay in one of their rooms. What a great place to stay, friendly staff and a great welcome. We were in room 2 which had the harbour view through a bay window and side window. Room was a great size with daily refreshed coffee tea and biscuits. The breakfast was freshly cooked and to a good standard. Location for the entire town was superb.

Popped in for a drink when exploring Whitby. Nice pub which is dog friendly in the lower section. Bar man with a blue bandanna has to be the most disengaged bar man I have ever come across, no greeting, no eye contact and really quite rude… not sure why he couldn’t smile and be more friendly

Breakfast good, our room average. Room not made up after our first night stay. Disappointing as staying for two nights. Cleanliness generally ok but furnishings and decor tired and dated. The staff we did have contact with were friendly and helpful but maybe a smarter appearance would have improved the overall impression.

The two bar staff were just chatting away and not really attending customers I had 2 dirty wine glasses that had to be swapped out the food was poor at best with hard undercooked chips and not fresh salad dressings. Staff hastily clearing plates before all of us had finished. Wouldn’t recommend this place if f it was the last place in Whitby.

Outdated website. 2 course evening meal advertised on Monday to Wednesday from 5pm. Walked in and two young lads behind the bar who were more interested in having a chat between themselves instead of serving customers eventually served our drinks. Went to a table and looked at the menu and no 2 course menu. Went to the bar and was advised that this was no longer available. The menu that was available was extremely limited so decided not to eat. Before we left another young lad joined the bar staff and all they did was ignore customers and shouted across the room at each other. Will we go back? NO NO NO

Gary and simone are the new publicans and this place has never looked better... It's fabulous for so many reasons, the cleanliness, location, food and the letting rooms. The room in the video is beautiful and has double aspect looking over the harbour... This from starts from £130 including breakfast for 2 "A bargain for the location" Both Gary and Simone were fantastic hosts and are sure to continue The Dolphin's on going success. It's a lovely waterfront pub and eatery with 6 hotel rooms set over multiple levels. It's got really friendly staff... And all are very welcoming. The food coming out of the kitchen looks beautifully cooked and well presented... The Dolphin is a very popular eating location in this idyllic coastal town... So gets busy at peak times but it's a great place to eat, drink or just relax over looking the water. 😎

Me and my partner along with our 2 year old son visited Whitby and stayed at The Dolphin for one night. Checking in was very straightforward and was greeted professionally by one of the staff, Jen. Our family room was very spacious, very clean, comfortable and we had a lovely view as well (as you can see with these shared photos). We managed to park our car in a long stay carpark not far from The Dolphin. The location is perfect. It's quite central to everything such as the shops, restaurants and cafés, beach and to some other activities for the visitors. And at night, it was perfectly quiet. We were comfortable and slept very well. We had our evening meal at the pub downstairs, food was lovely and we're all very satisfied, even our toddler ate his food really well. Good selection of drinks. The following day, we all enjoyed our breakfast too. Overall, staying at The Dolphin was fantastic. Food and accommodation are definitely great value for money. Staff were superb and been really helpful and lovely with us the whole time. We'll highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Whitby and we will definitely be staying again. Hopefully soon.

Trying to enter the Dolphin was our first challenge with the first barking dog which didn’t want us to go into the pub. We got our drinks and sat in the window peacefully for about 15 minutes then the barking war started, which the owners found amusing. There must have been 20 dogs in there all trying to out do each other. Horrendous experience which left us feeling like we were in the Dog Hotel not the Dophin Hotel. Would not recommend unless you are a dog lover who does not mind being in a scene from 101 dalmatians.

We were in the area, so we booked into the hotel online for Valentines day. On arrival, we were quickly checked in by the bar staff without any issues. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was large with a great view of the harbour. With it being Valentines, a small mixed bag of sweets/chocolate was left on the bed, which was a nice touch. The room was warm and clean, and the bed was comfy. It was also surprisingly quiet considering the location and being above a pub. The hotel/pub was right in the middle of things, so it was a great location, but no parking was available. However, there was parking available, fairly close by. Breakfast was hot, served quickly, and was ok but a little greasy. The staff at the hotel were really friendly, always saying hello and helpful when approached. If in the area again, we would definitely book in here again.

We visit Whitby at least twice a year, and have done so for many many years. More often than not on our way back to our accommodation we call in at this lovely, popular Public House. There is a Restaurant area, and Rooms, within the Pub but we've never made use of it. Over our three night stay, Frid. to Mon. was called in, as we had done in previous holiday visits to Whitby. What a change though on our visit this time. New Owners have taken over the running of the Business, and its made a big difference. More choices of the 'well kept' Real Ale beers, and this has created a rise in Customers, not only Visitors, but the return of'Locals'. On our second night visit we met up with a lovely couple, (Locals),and spent a very pleasant evening chatting with them. Turned out the Lady in question was the Chef and in fact it was from her we gleaned the updated info. We'll be back next year, for sure. FrasandBev.

We visited this pub as a group of two families for drinks while exploring the town of Whitby. We sat out doors and ordered 8 drinks which promptly arrived. Shortly after a different member of staff came to our table and informed us two drinks had been missed off our bill. They showed the order and asked for payment for the other two drinks. After checking it appeared he was correct. We paid and thought no more of it. A couple of days later we revisited the pub for drinks again this time sitting indoors at the direction of staff. The sullen waitress took our order and we counted back the drinks to her to make sure we had the eight. She confirmed. After a long wait the drinks turned up minus one. We enquired where it was and were told it would be sent to the table. Some time later a very miserable girl arrived at our table with the drink and told us we had to pay for it. We told here we had checked the drinks off with the girl who took our order. She just rudely pushed the card machine under our noses and demanded payment. There was no apology or courtesy. We finished our drinks and left deciding one of the other pubs would be better having our custom going forwards as I would advise anyone reading this contemplating going here. The place is chaos with miserable incompetent staff who have no notion of customer service.

Went in early evening for drinks. Well organised entry and exit system, shown to a table by barman/waiter Izacc. Good range of beer and lager on offer. Unfortunately the atmosphere was shattered by a group of 4 who were led by a long blonde haired elderly chap who decided to walk around the bar suggesting loudly that a table near the exit was free (only 2 seats). The man eventually sat down at his original table while still telling Izacc what's what. Izacc, only young poss late teens, handled the situation brilliantly. He spoke to the group in measured terms informing the group of table, seating, one way system arrangements in these testing times for pubs. The group left after other people on nearby tables had fallen silent making an uneasy atmosphere a bit eerie.Izacc quickly cleaned their table thoroughly and ushered another party to the table as a queue was forming outside.A huge mention and thanks to Izacc, a real credit to the pub. This lad will go far in life. Thanks.

Stopped here for a drink at 7 pm waiting on a local resturant to provide a table, in the hour we waited not one member of staff cleaned a table after people moved on, glasses were left lying, the place was heaving with absolutely no social distancing, a group of young people sitting outside were so loud and swearing eventually they got refused any more alcohol it was a prime example of how not to run an establishment in these precarious times.....such a shame when the place is situated in such a prime location. Would definitely give it a wide berth.

Just back from a few days stay here, it was great! Checked in quickly, felt safe and welcomed warmly. The hotel/bar has a one way system, track and trace which we thought worked well. Room was big, bright and spotless with fantastic views of the harbour. Plenty of teas, coffee etc. Plenty to see and explore, the beach is beautiful, lovely clear sea, lots of room to set up for the day safely! Most pubs also had one way systems in place, track and trace info taken as you entered. Considering everything going on it still felt relaxed.Breakfast in the hotel was fab! Lots to chose from and so tasty and filling. We also ate there one evening and that was also of very good quality and super tasty.Ally and Dave the owners can’t do enough to make your stay good, very friendly, genuine people. I have never ever written a review for trip advisor before but feel like I need to do so, I am not a stickler for things like this but I am genuinely appalled by the behaviour here. My partner and I came for a drink and to watch the match, I asked if they had Sol they didn’t so I went to check if my partner was okay with Corona - I went back to say yes and he was saying ‘oh I’m so scared’ and laughing at me. I felt awkward at this point but thought nothing of it. We then sat down and someone with the remote controlling the TV (I believe to be the owner) said very loudly something about someone being ‘gang raped’ and laughed. I find this disgusting: you do not know your audience and who you could be triggering. We decided to leave at half time and on the way out the guy (bleach blonde hair - want to point him out for his sheer rudeness) said night guy my partner replied, the blonde guy looked, stared and laughed at us - no way this would have been at or towards anyone else. Honestly I repeat I have never written a review am a 23 year old who feels no need to critique on minor issues but this to me was vile.if I could give 0 I would.

When I asked the bar staff what I should do it was suggested I change my baby on the toilet floor!!!! Luckily another bar member told me I could go on to the landing. He did get a free drink when he complained. Things were okay until the piped music started. It was so loud we couldn't speak to each other. Two of the party asked for the music to be turned down. The response was that they couldn't and the attitude was that they couldn't care less. We got up to go and so did another party of four. Looked a lovely pub and we were courteously greeted by the doorman. Decent decor with a good range of beers, spirits etc. Bonus points for having the Rugby League on however there was an overpowering smell of pine disinfectant hanging around the bar which affected the taste of the beer and made sitting there quite unpleasant. Called here for food on bank holiday monday. Had cod and chips. Looked and tasted awful. Plate was swimming in grease. Fish inside batter was nice but batter was soggy and greasy. Chips looked like they had been cooked over and over in dirty fat. They were burnt and soggy again with grease. 1st bisit here and will def be the last.

This pub has improved big style over the last couple of years, nice seating area outside, good seating inside, friendly staff and you must try the pig of doom pork scratchings, not for the faint hearted.

We ordered food and were still waiting 1 hour later so asked one of the bar staff what was happening. They said they would find out but never bothered to tell me the outcome when they came back so I again approached them and asked. I was told that our order would be next up and it would be within the next 5 minutes. Neither of these statements proved accurate. When food finally arrived, after 1 hour 20mins of waiting, one of the meals wasn't brought until we asked where it was and the garlic bread which was supposed to come with the risotto failed to materialise at all. When I complained about the long delay, the staff said that one of the cooks was not in and that I had been told when I ordered the food that there would be a long wait. I replied that I certainly had not been told as we would not have ordered. She then said that if she had taken the order she would have told me. When I pointed out that she had taken the order and she hadn't told me she repeated that she did tell me. So, on top of a ridiculous wait, terrible customer service. I would never go here again.

Just tried to get a seat here but was showed off by another customer saying she did not want us near her. Waitress told us she didn't like anyone near her. We left. Avoid

We called and booked afternoon tea for 4 people last night to have today at 2pm. I asked for a quiet area to sit as my mother is part way through chemo. We also asked for no fishy sandwiches. We arrived slightly early but I advised reception that we were here for afternoon tea, they didn’t seem to know anything about it but we were told to wait in the lounge which was no problem, we could not buy a drink as the bar wasn’t open, so we sat and waited, the manager came and said they were just preparing it and would come and fetch us when it was ready. We waited and waited and at 2.20 my father chased it up it was then brought to us in the lounge area around 2.30 and served on a coffee table with no room for it and with salmon sandwiches. I then advised that we didn’t like the salmon sandwiches so the waiter took away the whole afternoon tea and we had to wait another 15 or so minutes to come back. It’s was absolutely disgusting, apparently the scones were freshly baked and warm when in actual fact they were rock hard and stone cold and stale and looked straight out of a packet, there was barely enough cream to spread a very thin layer on some was that hard they were inedible. The white sandwiches were stale, they egg mayonnaise sandwiches were slimy and the small cakes were still frozen. I’m quite sure they forgot we were coming and threw whatever they could together. I don’t mean to be rude or nasty but the gentleman that served us was very unkept and had an awful odour. I informed reception when I paid the bill and can 100% confirm I will not be recommending or returning. This was a very disappointing as this was the first break and outing since my mother’s diagnosis, and was definitely the worse experience of afternoon tea I’ve ever encountered.

Terrible experience. Horrible atmosphere as soon as we walked in. The guy working there had an attitude problem, shouting at the young female waitress and telling the whole cafe that it was her second day. Had an argument with two other customers as they'd been waiting a while for two cups of tea. Even the customer said that he is stressed and he didn't like that and began arguing. Getting all the orders wrong and blaming the young waitress. Stated he is not taking anymore orders even though I'd been sat on the table and my mum ordered just before me. I had to tell him we were together. Such an uncomfortable atmosphere. How he works in hospitality/customer service is beyond me. Clearly the wrong industry. The poor staff, clearly not a very good trainer, but not his fault. AVOID as you'll only be left disappointed and leaving with a headache.
