The cat's pyjamas? Dog's dinner more like. After initially nearly leaving due to the horrible atmosphere we settled and ordered a breakfast and avocado and halloumi on toast with two coffees. Our drinks arrived quickly but the food mustve taken about 45 minutes to come, with no acknowledgement of the long wait. It wasnt particularly busy. When the food arrived it was awful. The breakfast was greasy and badly cooked and I couldnt finish it. The avocado and halloumi on toast was literally a few slices of avocado and overcooked halloumi, on the side of some burnt toast. Dont bother, there are far nicer places in Scarborough.

This place is a absolute joke. We walked in Sat down went to order.They tell you there is no food even though it said they were serving food til 15:00. There was no sign up outside. upstairs they were still serving food upstairs they might aswell call it the cats piss soaked pyjamas as its as much use as

Lovely decor and a nice welcome. However the tray our drinks were served on was mucky and filled with sticky sugar. Food (we had full English breakfasts) was delicious apart from undercooked eggs. I still would have rated this 5* as the rest of the breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed the atmosphere. But, they have 2 fish kept in a round vase with no filtration. This really bothered me that they're not giving proper care. This is just cruel.

Absolutely love the atmosphere and decor. So much thought and care went into this place and everything seemed so clean and dust free. We only ordered drinks, a latte, a hot chocolate, flat white, and banana milkshake, and they came in great time and were delicious, especially the milkshake which was honestly delightful The server is a little hidden behind the bar but she was very pleasant and had a laugh with us so loved that Drinks came in a timely fashion. Toilets are on the second floor and were so nice! They have an upstairs dining room but that was closed. I'd have loved to give this place 5/5 but they had a wineglass with live fish in which I can't condone. Really hope they reconsider how cruel and disrespectful that is.

The coffee was terrible, staff dos not look clean, toilet are very very dirty.

We came here last week for lunch and whilst on the pricey side for the portion size and the service is surly at times and disinterested, as we enjoyed our sandwiches we came back today for breakfast. What a HUGE mistake there is no greeting from the staff the tables were sticky and full of salt as were the seats. The breakfasts were shocking under cooked sausages and eggs, over cooked bacon that you would need a chainsaw to cut through, burnt hash browns the bowls the beans came in were chipped . It is such a beautiful location and building it’s a shame they don’t appreciate the customers more. We won’t be back head over to the artisan cafe beside M&S or sunrise on the beach front much better options.

I'm not sure I can even give this place one star. When we arrived it was very quiet and we ordered a prawn sandwich, panini, drinks and 2 cakes. The drinks and cakes arrived quite quickly but after about 40-50 minutes I noticed that people arriving after us were getting their food. I asked numerous staff members where our food was until an older gentleman came to our table to say the order had been lost. We then continued to wait a further 30 minutes before our order eventually arrived. When the food came it was very unappealing and barely edible. This could be a lovely cafe if it was managed better and was cleaner. Very disappointed !

Lovely food with lots of choice, visited many times during our stay in scarborough

Looked interesting and quirky at first glance but sticky tables, dirty cutlery and below average, microwaved food soon dispelled that impression. The staff were nice enough but this place is a missed opportunity trading on its location. Hard to imagine many people come back for a second time.

It was a let-down. The food served should have never left the kitchen. It should have been binned. It's not a cheap place, so one would expect some basic quality. Reimbursed and not going back.

Sunday breakfast only had scrambled egg on toast but excellent quality, throughly enjoyed it ,and coffee spot on ,dog friendly to ,definitely will call again

Visited here 10.30 in the morning ,coffee was ok ,food took bout 30 mins most of the breakfast was deep fried ,seagulls flying around keep an eye on your food if sitting ,toast was lovely and beans were ok ,cutlery was dirty baked on beans on knives ,the staff leave empty plates outside too long and the seagulls swoop down and that's why the cutlery is dried on no way value for money quiet shocking won't be going again

The best part about this place is the location and decor! Waited over an hour for 3 full English breakfasts that were barely edible! Some bits were just about cooked and others over cooked, items were also missing, and i had to ask the staff for them. After 30 minutes of waiting, I asked about its progress, to be told, 'we have lots of food on', it wasn't particularly busy, in my opinion. I couldn't reply to your comment, so I have edited my review. I was there Saturday 13th July around 10.30 am.

Saw this place recommended and went Sunday morning. Those people aren't wrong go if you can. Full English highly recommended according to my grandson.

Great little place , perfect location , lovely food and staff

Looks great from the outside, fun decor inside, good choice for the background music but, that's pretty much the best of it. Serving staff were pleasant enough, coffee & tea arrived quickly but the wait for food was painfully slow despite the cafe being about 25% full. Quality of the food (cheese & tuna melts, plus gammon and egg) was greasy spoon quality at upmarket cafe prices. The gammon & egg was inedible - so greasy, a refund was given for it without question. Wish we had read previous reviews and saved ourselves the disappointment.

This is a lovely cafe however it is badly run. We ordered two basic breakfasts. We were told we could not have smoothies as they were too busy with tea and coffee. Our meals took nearly an hour to arrive and were not great considering the price - no updates or warning it would take so long. The cafe was more than half empty. I recommend finding somewhere else to go if having a meal as it seems this place is just trading off its former reputation these days. Probably ok just for drinks as these arrived quickly.

Let down by Saltwater - this was an absolute gem. Even young staff had customer service skills. Outstanding service. I'll be back 😀. Definitely a place to dine. Food and drinks suitable for everyone and when there is an issue the young staff sort it - genius 😁.

Terrible - avoid avoid avoid Dire service, so slow. Customers being refunded and walking out as food takes so long to arrive - and when it does, it’s like dried leather.

Great cafe with warm and welcoming staff. The homemade soup of the day (carrot and coriander) was very very good as were the pulled pork nachos. Great value for money

Pretty sure my baileys hot chocolate had less baileys than it should have. All the drinks were lukewarm at best. Staff more interested sitting around talking and on their phones

breakfast was awful, very expensive for what it was.

We were greeted and sat down instantly, that was the only pleasant part of the experience. The food arrived in an okay amount of time, however one of the jacked potatoes meals was wrong and arrived with no jalapenios, and the burger was burnt to crisp and barely edible, the fries weren't much better. Additionally they completely forgot about one of the meals (pancakes) and had to be reminded about it just to prepare it late. Even though they state they use nutella it's clearly some cheap chocolate spread of poor quality. Cutlery was also not povided until we asked for it, after we got the first two meals. The waiters ask questions like "anything else?" or "would you like any x?" but literally sprint off before you get a chance to process what they said, let alone respond. Would not recommend. I'm pretty sure I chipped my tooth on that rock hard burger. The male toilets locks were broken and there was no hot water.

The food was absolutely awful I had a naked burger no effort at all had been made and chips were well overcooked it was 2 of the smallest patties I have ever seen a bit of sad lettuce tomat and cucumber which clear had been cut and stood for some time.. my partners all day breakfast was way over priced and poorly cooked our little one would not even eat her food!

Lovely atmosphere and staff, food was a little on the expensive side for what it was. Small portion and quite heavily salted haha, but I enjoyed it enough :)

Awful experience with rude owner refusing customers access to toilets. From previous reviews looks this is a regular occurrence. Shocked how many complaints there were whilst we sat. Will never be back.

Late for breakfast by 10 min but served our order lovely sausages nice meal. Kids opted for pancakes tasted great. Character restaurant very nice.

Went here last saturday after our usual saturday cafe, sunnys on st thomas street. was closed. We tried this once and Never again. A burger and a full english breakfast and 2 hot drinks £30 .similer to this usually would cost us around £16 /£17 at our usual cafe. Regardless of price the full english was probebly the worst ive had in town. The plate was 1/3 chips. - chips dont and never will go with breakfast. The bacon was barely cooked/ no black pudding, no mushrooms. . I cant comment on my wifes burger but it certainly looked nothing special for £12.. I genuinly came out almist feeling like i had been robbed of £30.. theres some fantastic breakfast to be had in scarborough ( sunnys, bella rose ) to name 2, all cheaper and better. Even a mass produced weatherspoons breakfast is far superior to this. Maybe a coffee or a mug of tea here. But just dont eat here.

A rather unusual kind of café that serves an excellent coffee of an apparently bespoke blend unique to this business. This was my first visit, but I noticed that it attracts some strange characters. The service was friendly and very quick, the only distraction being the background music, which I found irritating for some reason that I can't explain. The counter is very high, and I was amused that only the head of the girl at the counter was visible. It isn't the kind of venue that I would like to spend much time in, though the decorations are interesting.

We were greeted pleasantly and a table suggested as it was in the corner and we had 2 dogs. We arrived just before 1130 but no mention was made that breakfast is served until 1130 but lunch not until 12. Three of our party asked for breakfasts which they said was fine but two wanted a sandwich and these were not available yet. Coffee came first and this was good as was the hot chocolate however the breakfast was terrible. Probably the worst I have ever had and for nearly £10 very disappointing. They looked good but everything was overcooked apart from the egg and the toast. My black pudding was like rubber and even the dog had trouble chewing it. The sausages looked like they had been cooked in the microwave and were very poor quality. Hash brown was dark brown on the outside and a funny grey on the inside and were soaked in oil with a strange aftertaste. Certainly not an experience we will repeat.

Gets very busy, so waiting for a table can be hit and miss but definitely worth the wait. Lovely freshly baked treat, cakes, pies and scones. Extensive lunch menu with plenty of options for all tastes. Great hot and cold drinks menu. Staff have always been very attentive welcoming and polite on out many visits. Location is situated a top of cliff side next to vernacular rail tram with views over the bay. Inside and outside seating available as well as an upper floor. Unfortunately toilets on upper floor so no wheelchair disabled access. Pricing competitive to surroundings bistros/eaterys. Worth a visit

Spent £32 on 3 mediocre sandwiches & was refused a top up of hot water for the teapot. Staff were not interested & stood chatting. Wouldn’t return 😕

Lovely smoothies and absolutely delicious pancakes, the other half enjoyed the baguettes. The staff are friendly and they provided hot water so we could heat up our baby's food

We popped in for a light lunch and are so pleased that we did. Lovely atmosphere, fantastic service and very good food. So nice to find an independent cafe that is so good.

Great views from the top deck, food and service bad. Second visit - no change, as I always like to give places like this a second chance.

Came in with me mam for lunch/tea and only just made it before food service finishes the food we both enjoyed great cook there chef, the lady who served us was polite and sweet. Reminds me of my own place of work the whole theme and as a chef myself I’m impressed. Happy customers and will come back on our visit to Scarborough again 🙂

We visited and had a coffee and a cake and it was nice so revisited 4 days later for breakfast !!!! Well should have gone to screwfix first for a chisel, the black pudding was a tough nut to break, even our dog with a bite of 850psi could not manage it, the rest was microwave bacon, snotty egg, so disappointing

Felt slightly ignored while waiting to order food at counter. Waited ages for food to arrive & jacket potato was cold & hard. 2nd attempt slightly better, but much smaller potato..not good & will definitely avoid if ever visiting Scarborough again.

We went in for a cup of tea and cake it was lovely enjoyed our visit.

Would avoid if wanting food…the coffees were good. Two members of our party ordered avocado on toast with bacon which the avocado was sliced and placed onto dry toast presumably sliced as could not be smashed as it was too hard to eat. One was missing bacon which turned up shortly later looking like it had been boiled. Cakes had been bought in as it was extremely similar to the one available at Costco. No one bothered to check on how we found the food hence my review here.

Music was skipping and was louder than it needed to be, food was very subpar - my son ordered a brie and caramelised onion panini there was one very small slice of brie in the panini. My full English didn't come with beans and the black pudding felt like eating a door stop. Our table when we got there was full of someone elses old food, the lady came and took half of it and never came back for the rest. Overall very subpar for how much we paid.

Good location but shocking service. First day we wanted coffee but when we asked what time they closed was told quite simply "we're shut". The second day we ordered 3 drinks to sit outside, we were given a number but when the waitress shouted a number we didn't hear correctly and she came over and rudely stated "I've been shouting your number". She only had 2 of the 3 drinks and said they hadn't taken order for the third and I would have to go back in and reorder. The waitress then split one of the drinks all over the table. I went in to reorder our 3rd drink only to realise the 2 waitresses behind the counter were discussing the fact that we'd miss heard the number being shouted and customers "didnt listen"!! When I challenged thier conversation they gave us the third drink free. I would never use this cafe again when there are so many nice cafes in Scarborough.

Looked lovely from the outside and inside was pleasant, if somewhat cramped. Service was slow and we waited an hour for sandwiches. No-one apologised for the delay. When sandwiches arrived, they were made with lovely, fresh bread but they really scrimped on the filling. Was not worth the wait or the money. So disappointing.

Came for lunch, never again, food was terrible, all served cold, complained and the staff didn’t do anything about it, sausage on kids meal was a microwave sausage just vile

The food was delicious, lots of choice from all day breakfast, burgers to jacket potatoes. Dogs welcome in the restaurant but also plenty of outdoor seating. Would definitely recommend and we will be back 👍🏼

Went here bit of lunch before starting the day, to be told couldn't open the till until 12pm could see few customers getting frustrated. Was pleased to eventually got my food.

We ordered 2x fish and chips and a steak and cheese baguette. There was a bit of a long wait on the food but the staff kept us informed and offered us free drinks. The food was beautifully cooked. It was fresh and delicious.

Nice place but feels like it should be table service. Friendly and kind people. Decor needs TLC but a traditional Victorian seaside vibe. Great views and right next to the lift. Serves beer and wine.

Good produce but badly presented. Poached eggs were akin to weapons they were so hard, spinach blink and you’d miss it and fried egg hard as a rock. Was very busy and taste was good but wouldn’t rush back.

Stopped for a coffee and a scone to get out of the rain . Lovely and rustic inside . Chairs and tables also out side . Cakes and food looked good .. Scone was lovely 😍 Partner had the Baileys hot chocolate which she loved . Next to the hill tram ..

Came for breakfast was there just as it opened our drinks came very quickly but on first sight the cups looked grubby then I opened the tea pot it was filthy I was then dreading the breakfast it arrived cold plates bacon and sausage Rock hard like it had been cooked hours before then reheated and we were the first customer's of the day won't be returning shame as it all looked nice inside.

Food was lovely. All the staff except one were really friendly and helpful. I didnt get her name but she She had very short hair, she was patronising. My daughter asked if there were tables available and she replied with 'what do you mean'? And gave her a patronising look and waved her hand through the restaurant. this sort of behaviour makes people feel very anxious and i dont understand why she needed to act that way.

Terrific English breakfast with great coffee. Don’t understand complaints as all three of us had a great meal. They even had gluten free options.

Had Full English breakfast. Bacon precooked and reheated poor quality sausage ,egg over cooked. All ingredients on the plate were cold. Good coffee.

I'd give this cafe 15 out of 10. Everything was just lovely, food, service and location.

SOME GOOD PONTS & SOME BAD POINTS. First, the cafe is located in a wonderful period building as part of the funicular Victorian tramway to the beach, It offers fabulous views from their upstairs dining room accross Scarborough bay. So what’s not to like ‘I hear you ask’ - the service and their food. When ordering I was informed that there was a 40 minute wait for food, which I accepted. However, the drinks arrived immediately, which meant that I had finished my cuppa by the time the food arrived, this left me struggling to eat my sarni as I had no drink left, (I nicked some of the wife’s coke tho lol). The food was served on wooden boards, I’m not a fan of these as I think that they harbour germs (just my opinion). My wife had a prawn sandwich on brown, the bread was stale and hard, I was informed that the prawns were tasteless too. I had their steak & cheese baguette, this came with coleslaw and salad garnish + fries with their skins on. The staff were friendly and polite, but not very attentive. Now I know that fingers were invented before forks. However, I would’ve liked a fork to make it easier for me to eat my coleslaw and salad, I did improvise however, and I used my Tea spoon from my now finished brew, I struggled eating my fries though with the spoon! A good job that they had toilets to enable me to wash my hands after eating my meal as there were no serviettes provided either. I would’ve asked the waitress for cutlery, and serviettes but she’d long disappeared downstairs, never to return to ask if things were ok! So, if you go, enjoy the views from upstairs, be prepared to wait for food , don’t drink your drink before your food arrives, wash your hands to save on washing up, and wipe your mouth on your sweater. Oh, and if the waitress does make an appearance upstairs to bring your food, make sure that you have your cutlery cos odds on you’ll not see the waitress again.

Walked in nice and clean that's where it ended staff not bothered breakfast very expensive for cheap sausage and bacon tasted processed asked for a coffee in a mug as opposed to the soup bowls they serve it in now was told bluntly no coffee comes in the particular cup staff really did not care definitely will not be back

Nice and clean, very friendly staff, good food, my one small issue is "I thought the days of rock hard butter unspreadable on slightly warm toast" had gone, but other wise EXECELENT.

Came for breakfast with my wife. We were attracted to the look and style of the cafe. It appeared a high-end cafe and when we walked in looked and smelled very clean… When the breakfast came however, the fried eggs were undercooked with translucent “snotty” whites. The sausages seemed like they’d been either reheated, or sat for hours on a heat plate. The mushrooms were also stone cold. Coffee was ok.

Zero for customer service yesterday. Surly, uninterested counter staff. Stale cake and coffee and tea spilt on tray.

Clean, tidy and well laid out..I did feel the bacon sandwich was a tad pricey but I guess location, high rates and rent will contribute mainly to that..however, there was nothing wrong with the sandwich and in fairness its only my opinion...would I go again...yes of course I will.

We came here last year when on holiday every morning and it was spot on so we came back this year. No complaints and it was spot on again every morning which is why we kept coming back. Lovely spot, friendly staff, great prices and great food. Nothing more you could ask for. Looking forward to our next holiday in Scarborough when we’ll be back for more lovely breakfast, we also keep meaning to try their other menu throughout the day too, as if breakfast is to go by it’ll be delicious!

Sited at the top of the cliff tram by the Grand Hotel. Spacious, attractive old building with iron girders and pillars within. Some of the products are homemade. Tomato and basil soup was nice and I got tempted by the red velvet cake. Slightly disappointed in the cake as it was quite hard, not of fluffy texture and wasn't the best red velvet I've had. (The café up on Oliver's Mount, aptly enough called Oliver's (ha) does some of the best cakes in the locale and their red velvet cake is yummy.) Food came on attractive wooden boards, but with the cake, the trouble with that was it was unavoidable that lots of crumbs spread onto the table as it was a small board to the hefty hunk of cake. Plenty of additional seating outside. It's a licensed premises as well.

The sausage and egg sandwich was disgusting. Granary bread so stale that had I launched it into the sea we'd all now be able to walk to the Netherlands. Sausages of such cheapness that I could hear audible sighs from the porcine community as a whole. There was more snotty under done egg on the plate than on the dust bowl of a sandwich. Dreadful that's all that can be said really.

Worst breakfast I’ve had in a long time yesterdays warm ups and expensive for what we got and running to the toilet all day 😡

Love it. Lovely coffee, gorgeous cakes, fabulous atmosphere, amazing views and an easy cliff lift ride to/from the beach when needed.

When I took my 4 year old daughter to this establishment, I was expecting some “family fun time”. But once we ordered (it was only a coffee and cake) the staff were rude and impolite. I would also like to add that the plate was unclean and looked like it hadn’t been washed. Will not be returning, and will not be recommending.
