Went in with a view to eating here however after getting drinks and sitting down realised how dirty and unkempt the place is . Two ladies on the next table had ordered fish pie and had not eaten it and when I asked why they said it was cold and tasted vile which I must admit it didn't look appetising .Needless to say we left when we finished our drinks and went elsewhere.

Shortage of many items, very quiet but still slow service. Not very comfortable. Best avoided as plenty of good alternatives.

Stayed in hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis food was inedible and the head waiter rude and pompos

The food gets dished up before the restaurant opens, there is no staff, the food is generally terrible with the odd exception, and it sits there until the restaurant closes. Despite the room information saying it opens at certain hours, the plate clearer in the restaurant often changes it. Eat elsewhere and not in the Grand at all.

Used during a one night stay, food not great, would recommend eating out for the cost, lots of choice outside of hotel.

Restaurant situated within the Grand Hotel Scarborough. Good choices for starters, mains and desert. Could have done with a little more advice from staff regarding the meals.

The food was inedible. I regretted the small amount I tried to eat. Virtually anywhere would be better in Scarborough.

Part of the Grand Hotel, this is a decent restaurant, without being outstanding. Buffet food, which is "pub grub" style, but there is nothing wrong with that. You will need to book for dinner.

To add to our general hotel review, this restaurant was supposed to be better than the cheaper one downstairs, 'the Harbour lights' restaurant, but we studied both and the premier wasn't better at all. We were told it would be better food and better service, table service even in the evenings, apparently. Hmm. Not true, we still had to help our selves, being scorched by hot metal lids under too hot lights, having mass produced food, & not fresh. Rubber bullet eggs, tinned tomatoes & hard, crispy fried bread. Desecrated mushrooms. I didn't try the bacon or sausages as I am a pescetarian but they looked ok, the hash browns were okay too. We couldn't even choose where to sit, with our extra payments for Premier dining, no, we were told where to sit. It was a joke, a scam, not worth paying extra for. If that was superior dining I felt even more sorry for the cheaper diners down below decks! On the 2nd morning my youngest found a black dried up thing in her tomatoes, they never did tell us what it was then she found a hair. On the 3rd morning her and her sister went to the local McDonalds, I would have joined them quite frankly but hubby wanted to eat at the hotel as he'd paid for it, so I dutifully stayed with him, but to be honest could only manage croissant and toast, I could stand the old school dinner type food no longer, :-/

Probably worth the upgrade to eat in a quieter environment, but the food, whilst more tastefully set out with a bit more choice, is not appreciatively better than the main restaurant. The staff though were friendly and welcoming.

We paid the extra to eat in here. We had a reserved table which was nice. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. It was help yourself which is always better. The staff were more than happy to assist you if it was needed. The food was varied and cooked beautifully. We would do this again.

Thought we would pop in here for some food. Got to the part where you wait to be seated. It was a 45 minute wait for food but we were offered the fish and chip shop buffet with no wait. So we accepted, handed the money over. We were then told 15min wait. Then told an hour. This was way too long so we tried to get a refund. All the staff were very reluctant to give us this refund pretending to be busy ALL moving glasses around behind the bar. Eventually the trainee came and sorted it. The place was completely empty. Not surprised onr bit. Woeful, half-hearted rubbish

This restaurant is great, quiet decor and not "in your face" type. Food is well presented and the choice is more than enough to settle the most heartiest of appetites.

We went along last night, not to stay but to sample the catering in the "Premiere Restaurant." (15 quid each.) We got as far as paying for the meal. We waited in the bar with our little girl (five months old) for the forty minutes prior to "service" - Time passed quickly as I spent twenty minutes waiting to be served in a crowded bar by the ONE member of staff (Who was clearly doing his best but could not cope with the sheer weight of numbers.) The beer (Tetley's) was not of an acceptable quality, but rather than complain I just thought, I would save a couple of quid and not have another. There were plenty of things to amuse us. I was able to write on the filth on the table, after I had taken the dirty glasses back to the bar, enjoy a walk to the far end of the hotel, as I needed to pass water and the loo in the public bar was "out of order." On my return I was accosted by a drunken Scottish chap, who wanted to "commit loud and sweary acts of violence!" I politely invited him to stop spitting in my face, stop swearing near my partner and baby and to stop talking to me before I assisted him from the hotel! (Looking back, that would probably have been an act of kindness!) The Grand had decided to sell the majority of its rooms to Scottish "Orange-men" who wanted to entertain us all with threats of violence and those amusing hate filled sectarian ditties. I was further entertained listening to the complaints of others, whilst I waited for a refund at reception. We had dared to expect facilities to change our babies nappy. We were told that "We don't provide these facilities." Changing her on a mat on the (working) ladies toilet floor was not an option for my partner, as the floor was full of urine. The gents toilet was not an option for me. It was full of drunks at 1730! On explaining that we could not stay in such a filthy place and risk eating I was told that "We don't do refunds." I asked to speak with the manager and although I was not afforded that pleasure, i did eventually have thirty pounds thrust at me by a receptionist, who left me standing there, whilst she conversed with him, Alas it was evident that she was lacking in customer service skills. We had met the "Wedding Coordinator" previously, who quoted us a dearer price than was showing on line. She agreed to honour the advertised price. How spiffing of her! I would not have my wedding reception at this filthy, badly ran and poorly managed place if it were free. Please don't try to eat here, let alone stay, There is a McDonald's in town and a bus shelter to sleep in before considering this place!

This is a handy place to eat when visiting Whitby Abbey especially after climbing up the steps. Decent number of tables inside and out. It can get busy and likely there may be a queue. It is part of the Youth Hostel and serves a variety of hot and cold drinks, cakes as well as larger meal options. We all had paninis which were nice enough and the side order of chips were nice. Nothing spectacular but it filled a gap well and with nice views.

Called in for fish and chips to share - £10. Opened the box to find the fish in three pieces. Rancid oil taste to both fish and hard chips. Truly the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten.

Use this pub regularly drinks at good price food reasonable for this type of pub. Comfortable surroundings, not the best weatherspoons compared to many others. Come here regularly could do with more staff.

The cat's pyjamas? Dog's dinner more like. After initially nearly leaving due to the horrible atmosphere we settled and ordered a breakfast and avocado and halloumi on toast with two coffees. Our drinks arrived quickly but the food mustve taken about 45 minutes to come, with no acknowledgement of the long wait. It wasnt particularly busy. When the food arrived it was awful. The breakfast was greasy and badly cooked and I couldnt finish it. The avocado and halloumi on toast was literally a few slices of avocado and overcooked halloumi, on the side of some burnt toast. Dont bother, there are far nicer places in Scarborough.

For a large pub and the fact it was late on in the day on a Saturday, it was very clean and the staff were very polite. Food was good and nice selection of beer.
