Attracted by the poster saying Tunny Club is in the Top 10 Fish and Chip shops in the UK but despite the historic building, the food portion and the uncomfortable cramped seating made the visit disappointing. Yet child and dog friendly and offering gluten free meals but read the other reviews about this. Top 10 or not, I think you will find a better meal around the corner.

Loved the setting but service was poor (he was talking to someone else whilst serving us) and portions were tiny. Popped in for fish & chips today and only got a few chips, sadly the fish was very greasy too. Several people walked in and left while we were there as the chap had disappeared (they both rang the bell loudly and called out) both couples waited for a while and left. Shame as it's a quirky setting set off the front and just a few tweaks could be an amazing hidden secret. Won't visit again.

No way is this place worthy of being in "The Times top 23 in the UK" as the advertising suggests. Food was ok but had better in local chip shops. Mushy peas were excellent. Service was very good. Decor is traditional which won't appeal to all tastes. Not a bad place overall.

Horrible. Evitará en el futuro. Absolutely not happy with our experience here. Food was fine. I asked a girl working here if they did gluten free fish, they did so we ordered. Gluten Free fish and chips and a gluten free curry sauce. We received our food and shortly after our curry. My coeliac girlfriend was eating the curry, when another lady came to our table with our Gluten Free curry. After 5 minutes of eating the not Gluten Free curry already, we were shocked. The two ladies working their blamed eachother and left us be. No apology, no concern and no act of reconciliation. I raised the concerns with the lady who took our order to start with and let her know my concerns to be responded with ‘I know that it can have great consequences’. Even after this, no apologies to my girlfriend what so ever, who has since been ill from this act of stupidity and lack of common sense. Do not dine here if ANY allergies.

The food is ok nothing special and the curry sauce was very runny. I witnessed the lady serving customers being very rude to a young lady who was wanting to order a children's meal. The lady said that she hoped these meals were for children in a very rude and hostile manner and then said that the menu says they are for under 12. I could not see this on the menu. This was extremely unprofessional, if this meal is for under 12s only as she tried to say then I cannot fathom why several other clearly adult customers were served 'children's meals' with no issue, not everyone wants a huge meal!!!

I find it hard to believe now after so many young lives have been lost due to food allergies that when my daughter visited this restaurant today the curry sauce she was given was not the correct gluten-free option. This was only verified because another server brought out the correct gluten-free sauce . The two servers then continued to argue over what had happened and no apologies given even an explanation would h as be been noted . Only the other day a young girls death was on the news due to allergy . My daughter will now have severe pain for about a week due to carelessness . It is hard enough to eat at home and was excited to find a restaurant that actually catered for her allergy . Bearing in mind accidents can and do happen as no one is perfect We find it totally unacceptable not to be given a full apology not to be ignored whilst the two servers bicker infront of the customer Just as well she wasn’t fatally poisoned . Definitely training on allergy’s is not important here as it ruined the test of her weekend away through stomach issues 😡😡

Really great food, gluten free options available including vinegar which is often over looked so my wife was very happy to have her fish and chips with mushy peas. Staff were nice and helpful ate here twice on the way to our holiday further north and then again on our way back will definitely visit again. Hidden away from the main front but part of another business that is easily seen from the main stretch. There is an additional charge for eating in but we decided to sit outside which was lovely especially when the sun was out. Would definitely pay the extra charge to sit inside if the weather were not so good. Has a very basic and clean toilet but a great relief compared to others available. Very reasonably priced given the prices of other local fish and chips. We have ordered both gluten and gluten free fish, battered sausages and chips and peas from here all were wonderful. Highly recommended.

Visiting here ruined our holiday. The restaurant had large signs posted saying Wheelchair friendly and Vegetable Oil Fried Fish and Chips available. When I entered, I was greeted by an extremely rude, entitled and grumpy man. He refused to make a kids portion for my daughter in Vegetable oil and then when I said I would take the adult one instead, he refused to do that too. All in all be was extremely hostile, and even when my daughter who is Wheelchair bound he started closing the outdoor section making her feel really unwelcome there. It's obvious he didn't want us there and the reason why is obvious too. Avoid at all costs, a ruined holiday because of one bad experience with a unsavoury man.

Visited due to the publicity being voted in top 10 Chip Shops in England 2024. Whoever carried out this survey should be fined by Trading Standards. A chip shop who runs out of Vinegar ..... really? Advertised as a Cafe, however claimed to have run out of Mill so couldn't make hot drinks. Chips were like sticks and bits, made yesterday, barely had one that was actually potato, Peas like Molton Lava, obviously microwaved as extremely dry too. Fish.... where was it? had to go hunting for it, barely any fish at all. 10% extra charge to eat in, not given the option. I could understand a levy if pots had to be collected and washed, however all food served in takeaway packaging regardless of how you decided to eat. Cramped seats, could barely move. It was a good job I had wipes in my bag as the table was disgusting. Can of Pepsi, a water, chips & gravy, Fish chips and peas .... £23+ Was suppose to be a birthday treat but was left bitterly disappointed .... and hungry.

Just seen this place recommended for it's fish & chips in a list of one of best 23 in the country. Must .have changed hands or vastly improved since I last went 2 years ago. My granddaughter is gluten intolerant so she saw the sign gluten free and wanted to go for dinner. Worst f&C ever had took ages to come and I mean ages. The girl behind the counter left and the boss took over, what a happy chappy he was. When our meals eventually came I decided to asked for some mushy peas which he cartoned up. I know I am from Yorkshire but he wanted nearly twice the price for the peas I have paid before for eat in, couldn't see a price list so declined which went down like a ton of bricks. For the price and I don't mind paying the fish were small the chips looked warmed up. Been to Scarborough many times since but wouldn't take a chance on going here again.

Being a coeliac it’s hard to find gluten-free fish and chips, when we found this place on our day out in Scarborough we had to go in. We stood there like lemons, as no one greeted us and had to go up to the counter. Lady serving was pleasant enough. Ordered food & drinks, no glass offered with drinks & food was served in polystyrene trays. Seating was very uncomfortable. Batter on fish was like rock and fish portion was tiny, we ended up leaving halve of it as greasy and not very nice to eat. On leaving we and even our poor dog (he even turned his nose up when I offered him some) stunk of grease & it gave me terrible wind, the caravan stunk that night. Would never go back or recommend.

My husband and I visited this establishment whilst on a day out in Scarborough. We were patient whilst waiting for our food which took some time as it was supposed to be cooked to order. However, the portion size and quality of the food was very poor. Walking in the cafe is small and compact, some customers smelling like they haven’t washed for a week! We found a corner table, food was counter order and collect, our table was filthy! Being the only one available we cleaned it ourself. Orders was large haddock, small chips, mush peas , then other half had Childs fish n chips. Costing £30.00. Being a really popular resort over the summer months everywhere along the beach front had queues or their seating was all occupied. A local to the area pointed us in their direction. I don't eat meat, which can be difficult by the sea as even the chips are usually fried in beef fat. Came in here today and asked what they were fried in - when the gentleman working there said beef fat I told my friend to get his and I'd wait outside - it's never a big deal and I would never expect someone else to accommodate. But the man was so lovely - he told me they do both vegetarian AND gluten free on request - just fried it up in different oil and I got to partake in the traditional chippy tea by the sea! Great food, even better service!

We were disapointed today with the stealth tax of 10% added to the bill if you eat inside (the food is still served in the same containers) and the cost of a cup of tea, you may as well go into one of the many fish restaurants around and eat in comfort. Others must think the same because you used to have to queue to get in but today it was empty, one to miss now for us.

AVOID We visited for dinner during a day out for our daughters birthday, outside seating was a dingy yard with 4 picnic tables crammed in… food allover the floor, bins over flowing causing flies and bees, We were charged near on £60 for 2 regular fish n chips (very small) 2small fish & chips (tiny) 2childrens sausage & chips Served to us in takeaway boxes on picnic benches and charged 10% of our bill to ‘eat in’ DISGRACE!! £1.75 for a pot of burnt dried rock hard mushy peas!! When the small fish and chips arrived it was soooo small I asked what a children’s fish and chips was….. to be told it’s the same size as a small, yet a child’s was £6.95 and a small was £7.95, when I pointed this out and expressed how disgusted I was with what we had been served for near on £60 the waitress agreed with me and shrugged her shoulders!! And if the whole experience wasn’t bad enough iv just checked my credit card statement to notice they’ve actually charged me twice!! So over £100 for absolute rubbish!! BEWARE and GO ELSEWHERE!!

This place was great! We went to Scarborough for the day as a group of friends. We had a craving for proper fish shop, fish and chips but it was raining heavily and we could only find takeaways or places that served fish and chips but weren’t proper fish and chop shop ones. We stumbled across this place as they were advertising they did gluten free which someone needed in our group. It met all our requirements, food was great, fully hit the spot of what we were craving but also allowed us to sit inside in the dry. Cafe is informal, food comes in takeaway trays and you just grab a spare table. The guy running it worked so hard, taking orders, and serving the food, and was going full speed at all times to get everyone’s orders through. When he got to the end of the queue he was straight out sorting the tables and shouted out to everyone as whole, asking if everyone was okay and had all they needed! Would definitely go back!

Been today had fish and chips with the family lovely food, went back later to ask if they had a microwave to heat up my baby’s food and he happily did it for us no problem at all, then gave us a couple of drinks free of charge too. The gentleman who served us was really polite and happy lovely man and lovely place!

Lovely to cool off in the courtyard where our dog was served with a bowl of fresh clean water and two sausages (no charge). Our food arrived quickly and freshly cooked I had fish cakes which were great. Even brought a spare container for us to share with the baby. Impressed excellent service. Thank you so much

Before I start I had the Cod, Chips and Curry which were excellent. However for my wife I ordered a Haddock with the skin on, I specifically asked the server to ensure that it was served this way. When the meals arrived the Haddock had no skin on, so my wife went to the counter and complained. She was met with the excuse that 'Granddad was in the kitchen' - so what!? The server looked blank as if we were supposed to accept that, then added that I had not asked her for the skin to be on. Yeah she did it, lied right to our faces, right there blatantly lied, hence the rating. My wife tried the fish then said it wasn't even Haddock, I tried it and it really wasn't what we ordered and paid for. My wife got a refund and went to a better chippie round the corner. The place itself is dingy but I suppose it fits with its historical past. You will get your meal and drinks in takeaway boxes and have to pay a 5% charge to eat inside. The prices charged are cafe prices though so don't expect a cheap meal. There was also no paper in the toilet, which is located outside. Think they could do much better to be honest.

So we have been coming here for years and its still as good now as it was then. The staff (Jason i think his name was) always remembers us and always speaks when we walk in. Due to back issues i sit in the little alcove which is in the blocked up door and he always laughs when i sit down. The food is cooked to order but always fast and hot. I've never had to send anything back or complain neither has my husband. The food is super tasty and i always walk away needing a lay down and a nap (in the best possible way). Only down side is Jason said they were getting rid of my alcove. if this happens i will be heart broken as its become a family joke and is my favorite part of the day. I do wish they would change the chairs as they are unstable and wobble rather a lot not to mention uncomfortable. The booths are better but a little snug to me. Overall fantastic place and even when its full we get take out. We will be back in October so we will see you again then. Hopefully with my alcove still intact. :) #Ljscorner

After ordering 2 fish buttyies one gluten free one arrived with gluten free batter but in a normal bread bun, what is the point of ordering something gluten free then contaminating it with gluten. My wife took the fish butty back to the counter and the response from the server was well you didn’t say you wanted a gluten free bread, there was no apology or an offer of a refund my wife just left the fish butty on the counter and left.Further to my wife was I’ll sue to the person serving at the takeaway giving my wife a gluten free fish in a normal bread bun. My wife has coeliac disease and is allergic to gluten if this was a nut allergy and someone had given somebody nut the could be dead as it is my with will be I’ll now for a few days

With so many fish and chip restaurants to choose from this place was generally disappointing. Wooden cutlery and burnt chips. Also you need to ask if you don't want skin on your fish.

Great fish and chips, including gluten free for one of our party. We were made incredibly welcome, our four-legged friend being treated to a sausage! Despite being run off his feet, the card reader breaking down and a staff shortage the guy running the entire show was an absolute star. Definitely recommend!

£3 for a portion of chips. £8.50 for a battered sausage and chips, which means £5.50 for a battered sausage. What a joke. Got a portion of chips. Portion size was awful (tiny). Man was very rude in general. Didn't take card. The only respect I have for the place is that they did gluten free chips, other then that it was poor.

Thought this looked like a nostalgic little place to have our fish and chips at the seaside and we wandered in (4 adults and 1 baby in a pram) . The staff member immediately started hollering that we needed to come in through another door...

Absolutely terrible, chips look like they've been sat there for 2 days and a large haddock for £9.50 was the size of goldfish. Cooking staff sat on the balcony above smoking looked like they needed a good wash, loads of better chippy about just my luck I tried this place!!!!! Oh nearly forgot the curry was like dishwater!!!!

Absolute gem of a find, saw it was dog friendly so it was perfect for us, the fish, chips and curry sauce were fantastic. The guy serving us was so nice he even gave our dog a sausage. Nothing was to much trouble at all. If you want excellent value fish and chips it’s definitely worth a visit. Everything is cooked fresh to order also. Will definitely be visiting again!

If you like lumpy mashed potato, tasteless veg and watery gravy, you will like this place. I have never seen a more sorry looking carvery in my life.

Rude staff with the worst food hygiene standards I have ever seen. I have reported to the local council and Environmental Agency. How they have a 5 star hygiene rating is beyond me, I imagine their last inspection was a long time ago. During our visit, it was extremely quiet, and when asking to order specific items from the menu, it was as though we had asked for the world. Eyes rolling and complete attitude. Avoid at all costs.

We had a lovely lunch with family today, enjoying the view from above and the sunshine. However, when my food was being served, the sizzling from the oil in it landed on my husband's coat. When we asked for the bill, I explained the situation to the lady, who by the way was the person who served us the food, and she barely apologized. I would expect a better handling of the situation...

My son has a dairy allergy and often has to settle for sorbet when at an ice cream parlour. Truly Scrumptious gave him an amazing choice of dairy free ice creams and toppings. We wouldn’t normally have 3 ice creams in 3 days but he was just so excited that he had choices, how could we not??!!

We were walking through Scarborough as part of our hike along the Cleveland Way and after walking past the Beach Huts in North, heading towards South Bay, we were on the lookout for somewhere to grab a quick meal. Everywhere seemed crazy busy, but luckily we found this place without a queue - possibly now I understand why no queue though as just wasn't great. My husband's small fish was huge! but he didn't enjoy so ate less than half. My battered sausage and chips was good/average quality, but the sausage was teeny! Still, we ate enough to fill our bellies so we could continue on our walk.
