Absolutely the worse pub on the east coast of England the whole of England if the young man behind doesn't like you he will not serve you 4 people in pub" Total" !!!!!!!!! I wonder Which one he does like .....i fear none . Most ( locals) have left gone to Star inn cayton !!! GO SEE....... them there ...or the Tow bar on the holiday camp, if not see how to not to run a pub and go here, young bar man behind the bar (not in back room) and himself.......... this local has the left building never to return !!! With the rest !!

Looking online for a traditional country pub I discovered this one which appeared at first glance to be ideal. However, when I entered the establishment I discovered that the target customer was the laborourer after his workday is over. It appears to be a converted barn that has found itself among a low grade housing estate after the farmer has given up. That of course would explain the lack of atmosphere within. I had hoped for something better to lift the mood of a very depressed country, I was however, bound to be disappointed. I can see the attraction for a certain demographic, those who were born into the decline of Britain and have no memories of our better days. If you're the kind who hold fond memories of a better land, then this venue isn't for you. After twenty - five years in Devon, it does bother me that standards have fallen this far in Yorkshire. At least the cost of a pint of Guinness was reasonable at £4.85.

We recently hired the function room at The Poachers Barn for my sister's wake. The staff have been nothing but supportive and helpful in every way possible, going above and beyond where they could and making sure the experience was seamless and stress-free on the day. The buffet was beautiful and enjoyed by all ages and it was very affordable. Couldn't be more grateful. Highly recommend.

Wanted a dinner out on our last night in the area and came across this online. Reviews seemed good and it was only a couple of miles away so we thought we'd give it a go. Sadly it was just a disappointment. Walked in and first walked through to the lounge area (I think) but it was chilly as the door was open with people out the back and the music on the TV on full blast. Walked back into the main bar and sat at the only clean table. This is where it just went downhill. A big table of locals near the bar were loud (it was only 6pm) and meant that it was hard to enjoy our meal as all we could hear was them. They pretty much took up most of the space around the bar which was where you have to order your food. It's the first time I've been in a pub/restaurant too where people were openly vaping away inside and nobody giving a toss. The staff seemed young, which isn't a bad thing, and more interested in being with the group of people. Food was okay really but the steak was an effort as no steak knife to eat it with it wasn't the best cut. We left as soon as possible I'm sad to say. Kind of spoilt what was supposed to be a last night treat!

Stayed here for 2 nights it was our second time staying here we stayed last year too. It is exactly what you would expect from a budget accomodation. We took our 2 dogs so its not going to be 5 star for what you pay. Its basic and cheap so for what we paid it was ok. Abit dated but for the price its fine. Only gripe i would have is the staff are not particularly friendly but then i dont mind that. For the price its ok

Visited as there wasn’t much choice near where we were staying. The food is standard pub chain fayre, which is ok. Nothing amazing but perfectly edible. Is spoilt by the locals though, who seem to have a limited vocabulary, mostly consisting of expletives. Not that clean. The staff (all fairly young) were all friendly, it’s a shame they can’t handle the locals and get them to pipe down a bit. If you have a choice, get in a taxi and go further afield.

This appears to be a lovely little pub from the outside. Inside, it has no atmosphere, appears to be run by a group of youths, who, seem to look upon turning up gor work as a social event. The food is hit and miss, not very well cooked and certainly not service with a smile. It's a little bit too dog friendly, as when we were there, at least six dogs were in, the table near us having three, one of which thought it acceptable to bark at everyone and anyone who moved. Not the quiet meal we expected. This pub gas such potential, pity its run by kids.

Couldn't rate the food as they had finished serving despite it saying online they served until 8pm . We rang several times before we left our apartment but no one answered. Only 3 customers in there when we arrived. We walked in sat down to look at the menu the staff said nothing. They then disappeared and it was another customer who told us they had stopped serving food at 5pm. We were quite relieved to leave as staff were hardly helpful and they had music playing and the tv on with the sound on too.

Took advantage of 30 per cent off offer found online for main meals. No complaints about my doner wrap served with good portion of fries. This is a reply to your reply, we hired a room for a wake, and you might have been short-staffed on the day maybe it would have been wise to explain that to us. Regarding the food allergies, you were informed in plenty of time. I called in and spoke to a member of staff (face to face) at least a week before, my son also spoke to a member of staff on the phone days before the wake. We certainly did not tell you on the day, I would have understood if you had just forgotten about it, an apology would have been fine.

We thought great a local pub when we moved here. But to be honest it's appalling. I think we have had at least 4 managers and nothing has changed. The whole pub needs a complete overall. The urinals generate a terrible smell which can be smelt in the bar area. Last time we went for a quiet drink, the bar was populated by drunks (not unusual) who spent time shouting that they had been barred. The group on the table across from us decided they'd have argument. This resulted in the individuals attempting to get other people (strangers involved) in the argument. We had attempted to sit in the restaurant area which was empty. Unfortunately we had dogs so this wasn't allowed. We have attempted to support this pub on many occasions. But frankly it never changes. 😞

Copy of email sent to Poachers Barn... had no response. On Saturday 19 August 23 we, myself, my husband and daughter, came into Poachers Barn for lunch. We have been before and not been happy with the experience, however we follow the page on Facebook and comments had been made that management had changed and the food was excellent, we therefore decided to give it a try. The visit was to take our daughter out for a birthday meal, we do not live in Scarborough but she does. We ordered a coffee and two soft drinks, we could not have coffee or tea because you had no milk, no big problem, my husband had water. He is diabetic and therefore has to be careful with his diet choices. For our food we had, Steak and Ale Pie (very kindly swapped the chips for mash), Mixed Grill with no peas (my husband has an allergy), and Hunters Chicken. The pastry on the pie was so hard and overcooked it was inedible, the Mixed Grill came with Peas, and the steak and chicken were overcooked. the Hunters Chicken was overcooked and dry. We tried to eat the meals but unable to because of the comments made. The barmaid was really good, she was welcoming and took our orders professionally and politely. The pub was clean, warm and comfortable. When the barmaid cleared our table I complained about the Hunters Chicken, she went to the kitchen and returned with a comment from the cook that there was nothing she could do about the dry overcooked chicken because she has to use a probe. No apology. We had intended to have further drinks and desserts, we however moved on to somewhere else. My husband has tried to make comments on Facebook and has had his comments deleted and been blocked from the page, surely we have a right to make comments about our experience. I would be grateful to hear your comments on this episode of errors.

As we had family staying and live local we decided to have a meal at at the Poachers Barn. We arrived early evening on Friday. The staff were very helpful sorting a table out for us in the bar area. On ordering food we were told several of the menu choices were not available. Not a problem so I personally ordered the gammon. The server came back and told me that there was no pineapple would I be okay with an extra egg. No problem. The server came back and told me no eggs would I like a mushroom or tomato instead. Okay I can cope. The meals arrived and we ate. Back home talking about the meal I realised that I hadn't been given peas, they had been replaced with a bit of salad! Dare we go back? The next day as there was a Soul night on at the pub we decided we'd like to go along and give them a second chance. We didn't want the same problems with the food so during the afternoon my wife visited the pub in person. She asked if we needed to book a table. No problem, we don't need to book as Saturday tends to be quieter than Fridays and that food was available from five until quarter to eight. The only menu item not availble was fish and chips. Great we thought we can walk down a little later than normal, have a meal and a few drinks and enjoy the Soul. We turned up at about a quarter to seven in plenty of time to order and eat. Whilst finding a table we were told the kitchen was now closed because of Soul night. Not impressed we had to walk home and then drive to another pub to have a meal. That pub was very welcoming, we had a great meal and enjoyed their live entertainment. Such a shame we couldn't get it locally.

On arrival we was seated at a well set out table, Our drinks order was taken and when we was ready our food order was then taken, We have 3 fussy children and the lady who took our order was patient with us! We didn't have to wait too long and the food arrived hot and looked great but better still tasted amazing! I highly recommend the ultimate southern fried chicken burger and the ultimate spicy beef burger 🍔 😋. The lady who waited on was just a breath of fresh air this time and she apologised for our last visit, it was just a bad day at the office (we all get them). The owners we lovely and so happy to see us come back to hopefully this time enjoy our experience at there establishment. After our meal I went up and paid for all our drinks even though our 1st lot was offered complimentary. As he was taking the food off the bill I still offered to pay what was on the tab as I really did enjoy our food and experience. I was told No he was sticking to his word and all our food was on the house! Lovely owners, it was great to see some passion from pub landlords i feel this is missing nowadays from many! Highly recommended this place! Never be afraid to give places a 2nd chance.

Staff behind the bar, friendly and welcoming as always. Even thou they were busy, the wait for food was too long. I had the cowboy burger and my partner had the spicy burger, and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend, decent pub grub. 😁

I don't say this lightly, but this was hands down the WORST pub meal I have ever had. From start to finish. Rude staff. Wrong orders. Disgusting food. The worst thing was the older woman who was carrying the food, breathing heavily and sweating over the plates as she was putting them down, she was rude and dismissive when we pointed out faults, to the point where some in our party decided not to day anything. It honestly shocks me that anyone can run a pub like this in the modern age. I imagine it won't be for long.

A good place to go but not quite 5*. Reasonable prices with friendly staff. Local pub atmosphere in the bar.

After 55 minutes the food arrived, 2 wrong orders, finally got it right after 2 more attempts, hunters chicken was so overcooked, inedible. The waitresses attitude left room for improvement.

We visited Poachers Barn for a meal after arriving in the area for a holiday. Seemed a bit quiet for a Saturday evening, but the food was fantastic at a reasonable price. They got one order wrong but soon rectified it. Would definitely visit and dine here again when in the area.

Absolutely awful. Hardly any food options available. Order was then mixed up and had to be sent back. Mine was sent back 3 times to get it right (what was actually advertised on the menu). Bad attitude from staff when asked to correct the food....

I go the quiz on a Sunday night which I enjoy .but last night .the quiz asked someone to stop talking and they started arguing with quiz master .and now they are not going to do the quiz again .why should 1 person spoil it for everyone else .no landlord to back the bar staff .when this kicked off .are you running the black lion or the poachers barn ? You are going to lose alot of custom on a Sunday night if there is no quiz which people enjoy .not good for the pubs name .and people who take time to write up a quiz which is not easy don't deserve to be spoken to like that .if they no there is a quiz on why do they come .they said it is not a library and you won't tell me to be quite .the quiz master does not need that

Started out promising. Warm & friendly staff. However having waited 1 hour & 20 minutes had to leave ad child hungry & tired, not to mention adults feeling much the same way. Always had a great experience at Marstons sadly not this time☹️

First visit to Betton Farm and what a find.. Beautifully refurbished restaurant/tea room set in the small village. Staff were fantastic , very knowledgeable, very professional and super friendly. Only had a light snack and coffee (cakes made in their bakery are lush) sat looking out the window with beautiful countryside views. Definitely be back for a meal as the menu looks delicious... Fabulous courtyard for those sunny days adorned their bakery/shop selling a delicious array of goodies. Great value for money... And !!!!! They have a cracking little animal farm with some super friendly animals... star of the show the friendly pig... A visit to this gem is highly recommended.

Just stayed for one night. Fantastic location. And a decent enough welcome. Room lovely, clean and comfy bed. Lovely quality tea.and coffee. We were asked what time would we like breakfast the choice was 8, 8.30, 9 or 9.30 we chose 9am we came down for breakfast and service was good.. then we chose full breakfast and a good size one turned up!! When we started eating it was clear it had been cooked and left to keep warm ages the egg looked like the yolk had been on somebody elses plate hash brown had such a hard bottem you couldn't get your teeth though it, I'm sure they knew how bad it was as they kept well out of the way. We left lots of the breakfast! We proceeded to check out and she said was everything OK ? I said lovely apart of the breakfast that had been kept warm far too long.. she just said sorry and not very sincerly and changed the subject.. we travel alot and vote with our feet.. won't be returning to stay at the Royal george. Such a shame. But we didn't let it ruin our lovely trip to Staithes..and we will be back......

The Plough is in a lovely location and not too far from Whitby harbour which was great for our trip to the WGW. The pub itself is cozy and we were shown to our room by a lovely young chap. There are only three rooms to rent and we were in room one. Upon inspection it was nice and clean and smelt fresh. Very basic with a kettle and tea/coffee but for one night we couldn't complain. The bathroom was very spacious though with a big walk in shower. It was quite cold in our room and when we tried to turn the radiator on it didn't seem to work. We only used the room as a base to sleep and we were out till early hours so this wasn't too much of a problem for us. Also the remote control for the TV didn't seem to work so we only had the one rubbish channel to watch as we couldn't turn the TV over, but again wasn't too much of a problem. If we had been staying for more than a night then we would have mentioned it to staff. I found the bed to be quite comfy but my husband said it was really uncomfortable. We also found a past guests hoodie under the bed so obviously hadn't been cleaned properly. Food was decent and prices were what you'd expect. It was a shame they didn't do breakfast. 10 mins in the car to whitby and not too far from other attractions. We would definitely visit again for food if nearby but I probably wouldn't stay here again if for more than a night.

I recently dined at the White Horse and Griffin, and it was a complete disappointment. My sister-in-law, who dined with me, got her meal at half price after she raised a complaint, but when I did the same, the manager flat-out refused to discount mine. The excuse? Because I had eaten my meal, it was “too late to complain.” This is absolutely ridiculous — as a customer, I should still be able to express dissatisfaction, especially when the meal was so underwhelming. For £24, I was served a chicken leg, half a tomato, and a small potato. What a joke! The portion was tiny, the food was average, and the lack of customer service was downright frustrating. I won’t be returning, and I highly advise others to avoid this place unless you want to be treated unfairly.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who followed the gents toilet sign and ended up outside looking confused and pained. Staff seemed a little grumpy when we called in, except for a young chap (possibly Polish) who was very helpful and courteous to the guests checking in. I've never seen one person carry as many bags since sherpa Tenzing helped Sir Edmond Hillary up mount Everest.
