We stopped by here to get a drink after visiting the station. Very empty when we arrived. It turns out that they had just closed for the afternoon. However, the gentleman behind the bar still served us. Cost £13.50 for a glass of wine and a pint of shandy though! Had our drinks outside as they locked up after we were served.

I don't usually write reviews but today we visited The Goathland Hotel and I am so cross that this establishment is absolutely ripping off tourists. The prices are over the top and the food was awful. I had a Special of the Day which consisted of a dried up pie and dry chips with an egg cup of gravy. Special? We arrived on the train with all the other visitors the only difference is we live locally. We have two of the best butchers within a few miles Radfords in Sleights and Jackson's of Ruswarp, so why would you serve such rubbish and charge £15.95? A place to avoid.

Disappointed was an understatement! Was very excited to visit this place on a nice day for a quick drink in the sun, however walked in had a very funny smell to the place , the barmaid (blond haired lady with pony tail ) was miserable as sin didn’t make you feel welcome at all no conversation at all made to feel uncomfortable whilst waiting for drinks and £6 for a pint of carlsberg ( tasted very watered down). Unfortunately the miserableness of the staff has put me off returning such a shame could be such a great place with the right staff/owners.

Visited today in the hope of having a nice day out with family. Ordered drinks and sat outside. Had already ate lunch and had some donuts left. Blonde lady came out and said loudly for me to not eat my ‘picnic’ whilst on their premises and that there was PLENTY of picnic areas to choose from. (I had 1 donut) I am partially sighted and suffer with mental health. I felt very put down by her talking to me like this. There is nothing to say you can’t eat there and I wouldn’t sit there and eat lunch anyway looking at the reviews about their food! After this I certainly won’t be wasting any more money in that pub. Very rude lady who clearly likes to talk down to people. You would think they would be lovely and welcoming to their customers ( well that’s what kind of establishment I am used to) Absolutely shocking service and definitely won’t be back with my family.

What a disappointing pub/hotel we were really excited about visiting this place being fans of Heart Beat, and having a drink the the pub. Staff very miserable and we could only drink outside even though the bar was empty, they clearly do not welcome walk in customers. Such a shame because the rest of the village businesses were very welcoming, also a rip off at £6 for a pint of beer.

'Hogsmean not hogsmeade' 'Heartbreak not heartbeat' If it hadn't been for us being ravenous from our beautiful wintry walk, we would have turned on our heels and left after the frosty response we received from the woman behind the bar on visiting. Not shy to show her discontent at our group bringing our custom, it appeared quite an inconvenience to them for us to stop in for lunch. Rude if any questions asked (including whether there was any meat in the soup). The pasty was, however, deeelicious. 'The lunch was a pasty, but the service was nasty'.

Been in there on various occasions to the lovely North Yorkshire village of Goathland (Aidensfield) over the last 20+ years, can honestly say never made welcome. We went July 2022 it was the same again, the staf behind the ball never seem happy. Had a drink and a lacklustre snack. Of course, they must be happy to take your money? They have also re-configured the bar also, the little side entrance door has been closed off, why? There must’ve been reasons? That pub could be a gold mine in the right hands. You do have to wonder why some people are in the hospitality trade. A real shame in a beautiful location it could be a cracking business venture trading on the wonderful “Heartbeat “series. 🎸🛵🎸

They looked delicious and our new friends who did eat said it tasted as good as it looked. I would happily go back again and have a meal the next time we visit Morgh Yorkshire.

We had been looking forward to going here, staying and exploring the surrounding area. First thing that greets you are signs, instructions, and worst of all, perspex screens which served a purpose in the time but to top it all they wonder round with food etc which defeats the object. Virtually everyone you spoke to were there because of Heartbeat and everwhere made the effort and were friendly except here. The staff were unpleasant and to top it all just as you were getting comfy they shut at 3pm so only residents were literally ushered out of the bar into the lobby area and you had to ring a bell to get another pint. Inn on the moor opposite was the complete opposite and when you tell a local where you are staying, it causes much amusement as they have a reputation for being miserable and unfriendly Disappointed!!!

Goathland pub closed. Blue looky likey police cones and tape to deter anybody who dare approach to take a picture at the famous Aidensfield Arms, possibly a fan from the famous Heartbeat series and it's an area of beauty, people might like to visit and take a pic for a momento ( will now include cordoned off tape/cones ) Wandered into Scrips garage and the sheer rudeness of the owner was laughable, downright obnoxious and ignorant. We have now wondered if he's misguided/pathetic attempt at portyraying the personality of the garage owners/actors from the show. Please stop. You are failing miserably ! Don't let this deter from a visit, they have a beautiful tea room and gift shop, walking routes, amenties and the most beautiful view. It really is a shame, that the people who profit most, from Heartbeat fans who visit, are treated poorly. Be careful, you might get a reputation and people will begin to avoid. Oh wait... look like a FEW others feel the same!

Having visited this Pub/Hotel four years ago and swearing I would never go back, I found myself showing my friends Goathland village. Lovely little place. Against my better judgement we decided to go for a drink in the Pub. My logic being, it must have changed hands by now or at least improved. Unfortunately it was neither. Once again we were met by rude staff, who when asked if we could bring the dogs in, went into a list of what we must not do with them........Keep on lead, keep on the floor, no sitting on lap at the table......This is something that we always make sure we do anyway and whilst i totally understand that they have rules, it was the manner in which we were told them . As in previous reviews everything is still set up as if in Covid and the rudeness of all staff is still exactly the same. Add to that the feeling of being very uncomfortable and you end up with the visit to the village being spoilt. However there is a silver lining to this cloud.......bang opposite from the Goathland is a pub called Inn on the Moor Hotel, At first we didn't realise that this was a Hotel, however what a surprise we got! We all said that the welcome that we received was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble, the dogs were allowed anywhere and the whole atmosphere was much more relaxed. We spoke to a few people who had visited Goathland for years and they all agreed that the Goathland Hotel was terrible and would always go to the Inn on Moor Hotel instead. If you do decide to go to Goathland, then please visit the Inn on The Moor, I thoroughly recommend it, however I'm not sure what the food is like, but will definitely be trying it next time we go. This is no reflection on the rest of the village, there are some beautiful tea rooms and shops, but it seems to be the one main attraction that lets it down.

No structure and just notes stuck on outside door to tell you if opening or not ! It’s not a staff problem as plenty of them ! There is not one photo or any mention of heartbeat they are not interested! If you ask anything they just tell you there a leaflet you can buy for £1, they don’t want to chat ! They do offer accommodation and thankfully I did not stay as originally it said they were full that weekend! However I did not see anyone staying , I don’t think they want that ?? We visited the village in the hope of having lunch at "The Aidensfield Arms". On arrival the hotel looked closed so we went for a walk to kill a bit of time as we were fairly early. We wandered over to Scripps Garage and did buy a couple of souvenirs and whilst paying, I asked the man if the hotel was due to open for lunch to then be asked "How would you pay the barman ?" I replied "with cash" to be asked the same question again to which I gave the same answer. What was to follow was a lecture on business economics and how the the hotel owner would have to pay wages etc. Now, I only asked this man a civil question and I didn't expect a smart ass answer like that, a simple "yes" or "no" would have done. He was lucky I was in the company of a lady, or the cheeky rude character would have had a different conversation ! We visited out of season and the hotel was closed so this isn't a negative review for that, it was just bad timing but this guy really spoiled our visit to the set of a TV program we enjoyed. My son was 16 years old but we were refused any drinks or food and given peremptory instruction to go through to the other bar. We did this and were served by a lady in white who had no customer service skills at all. This year, I avoided the bar and went straight to the other room. There was no greeting and in fact, she just disappeared. I and around 15 others were left looking for menus, none of which could be found anywhere. After 15 minutes, still no sign of the woman in white (perhaps she was a ghost after all ! ) so just about everyone in the bar slowly just got up and left, including us.What appalling service. The poor reviews here are correct! I can only assume that they are just now fed up of customers. After a great day in Whitby, we called here on our way back home for evening meal. My wife was always a fan of Heartbeat and so inevitably, like many others i guess, we chose this. It was quite late so the bar area was empty and as the weather was nice there were 4 tables occuppied in the garden area. The lady at the bar was VERY frosty to the people before me and to us. I felt like a real nuisance just being there. The garden area has about 8 dining tables yet it was stressed to me (in headmistress like fashion) that they would not bring the food to the table - only to the table which is nearest to the inside bar (hence saving the waitress walking the extra 5 meters to our actual table). We were told the waitress would shout out our order number /name when she left it there so we could go and get it - but she didn't Now maybe there is a reason for them leaving the food on that table?? if so none was given. However it isn't even that which ruined our visit. It is just the very stern and unfriendly manner of the staff. not a "good evening" or "how was your day" or anything at all you might expect from a friendly welcoming landlord / bar staff. No thank you, no have a good eveinng .. nothing! After our meal we walked along the man road to get some air before our return journey and about half a mile down the road at the other end of the village we saw the Mallyan Spout hotel with restaurant. That looked really nice so when we return to Goathland again, we will definitely avoid the Goathland Hotel.

The interior still remains almost the same as when viewed on Heartbeat, the old tv series. Artifacts are seen around the village that were used in the filming. A great day out and you can get there by steam train and or bus.

Came a long way to spend a long weekend in 'Aidensfield' as fans of the show. the whole village was very accommodating apart from this venue. tried many times but always closed. The local view was he does as he pleases and opens when he feels like it. We did spend some time inside three years ago and it was pleasant then. I am only glad that I decided to stay at Glendale House instead of this hotel.

Vile vile people. My 2 year old (as they do) ran towards the stairs and as she did 2 women nearly pushed her down the stairs stopping her(I was 1 second behind her) I was served a cup of tea with a dirty look. The barman (in his 70s) was the most miserable person I have ever met. It was obvious he hates women as he never spoke to me directly when I asked him a question. He replied to my father in law. RUDE. No customer service at all. The barmaid and cleaner was stood talking while I was waiting to ask them something. Gave up in the end and walked out! If your reading this I strongly suggest a customer service course!!

We were here with some friends and our two dogs, the weather was atrocious so the pub was quite busy with people coming in and out. As soo as the women behind the bar saw the dogs she came over slammed a leaflet on the table and said "this is our dog policy". Well what wasn't on this policy would be the best way to describe it. I happened to have to go outside to the car for something and an elderly couple were walking out at the same time and I heard the chap say to his wife that they have to have to move the car because the woman says we can't park here anymore because we are not in the pub! Although they had clearly been in there buying drinks so she had taken their money and now asked them to move on, when all they wanted to do was to walk down to the station a 5 minute walk at the most. So we bought a round of drinks which was almost £20, now during this time one of the dogs we had was a rescue and very nervy due to abuse he had suffered from men, so naturally he is very wary, so if something scared him he would bark as a defence mechanism. I would say in an hour this maybe happened 4 to 5 times. We took the dog out myself and my mate leaving the two wives in the bar drinking and chatting, we came back after about 30 minutes and went to the bar to order another round of drinks. As I was at the bar a couple were moving onto the table next to us and a guy moved the chair hitting the dog which scared him and made him bark. I heard him but did not see it as I had my back to the bar as the barman was pulling the last pint my wife shouted leave the beer we are going, it appears the miserable woman who must be the land lady had walked from behind the bar and walked up to our table and said I think he has barked too many times I would like you to leave. So without paying for the drinks we packed our gear took the dogs and left. If this pub does not want dogs in the pub then surely the simplest thing would be to state NO DOGS ALLOWED !! The attitude of this woman is disgusting I can only think that she owns the place because with an attitude like hers she would not want to make a living out of customer service anywhere else. The toilets stink the bar is rammed with tables and the beer way over priced, so enter at your peril with an attitude like that I hope they go bust.

We were given menus to peruse which had ample choices there would be something for everyone. Our choices were delicious and no faults could be found with the meal. The only distracting thing I found was the music that was playing and as our table was right below a speaker made it all the worse

I don’t usually write reviews but felt I had to. I am over 50 and have eaten all over the world, from the the cheapest street food in Asia to some top restaurants and I can safely say this was the worst meal I have had in my life and no, I am not exaggerating for effect. Ate here with my son (11); we were both very hungry but we both could not finish our meals - which only ever happens if we have stuffed our selves. The food was disgusting, were very small portions and too expensive. To say the food was bland would be positive. Both meals - very simple macaroni cheese and and a ‘giant’ (small) Yorkshire pudding with sausage and gravy - had very strange, unpleasant taste. Drinks were fine. We were also made to sit in a separate dining room by ourselves because of my son’s age - quite unusual these days.

I have to say that again the service and friendliness was a before and as expected. People need to remember that the hotel is a family run business and although TV camera have long gone it still keeps the same feel as if it was the Aidensfield Arms. This along puts pressure on the staff to maintain the ambiance The menu is simple and the food is good and hot. The rooms are of a good side with plenty of hot water. The bedrooms now have USB charging points in the electrical sockets at the side of the bed. Overall excellent stay again and I would stay at this hotel again

We visited this pub on a family day out and I have to say I was totally disgusted with the whole experience. All of us were made to feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. We were asked to place our brollies and coats out in the entrance porch, rather than on the back of our chairs where we had put them as they were creating a “river” in the pub (it was a tile floor, so we were not even damaging carpet) and not only were we told this, but there were other customers who were also given the same treatment by one of the staff, who was wielding a mop around the floor and under our feet as we sat attempting to converse. This seems fairly reasonable - mopping the floor when it is wet is a crucial part of health and safety - but given that it was torrential rain outside, and all the customers were wet though, you would expect there to be a few wet coats lying around! We all just wanted to get out of the rain and this is the first pub you get to from Goathland station, however we all felt as though we were an inconvenience to this particular lady (whom also doubled up as bar staff).

We had called in to Goathland a few years back but for some reason we didnt go to the hotel, so seeing as though we were headed to Scotland we thought we would go there just to visit the hotel this time. Well, actually now we wished we hadnt bothered, the thought is so much better than the visit, its just a tourist trap. Sorry but the staff couldn't careless about the visitors, who by the way woudn't be there is it wasn't for its Heatbeat fame.We were there at about 1.30pm, we had a drink and sat at a table, the queue for the bar was getting longer as the staff were so slow, so at about 1.50 my husband got in the queue, at just after 2 he was being served, we wanted meals, 'no the kitchen closes at 2pm', didn't matter that him and a few others had been waiting for so long, no sorry, no nothing, quite a few very disappointed people there. She did say 'it says on the sign', which she meant was on the sign outside the building. I'm sure they just count on people never coming back, as I'm sure locals wouldnt bother going there, or maybe they dont get treated like the tourists do. It has so much potential, badly let down by staff who couldnt care less.

Not sure where to start. This should be a good money trap with its history, unfortunately nobody is putting any effort in. Can't be described as a family run pub, unless the 'family' is very far flung across Eastern Europe. I had the 'sirloin of beef' filled yorkshire pudding. Dry as a bone and just as tasteless. My husband had sausages, which to be fair he said would have been hard to ruin. Lots of empty seats and not surprising. There were coach loads of people arriving daily - the captive audience is lost unless some major changes take place.

Went for a few drinks in here Saturday evening with my family. My wife and daughter couldn’t use the toilets as both cubicles were extremely soiled from previous users. Not the landlords fault but you would expect them to fix it when notified. Oh no, the response was defensive and “we’ve never been told that before”. My daughter had to wait until we got back to our b&b; to go to the toilet. Not even an attempt to rectify or clean them. Bad service and won’t be going back.

Recently called in for an ale and lunch to take in the Heartbeat feel of the pub. After ordering our meal a lot of people began entering with dogs with barking, growling and whining becoming annoying and frightening some patrons. Food was timely to the table however was below average in quality. Very dry and lacked taste and quantity, salad consisted of some mixed lettuce leaves with one cherry tomato cut in half. Such a disappointment, the pub has so much potential given its TV fame.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights for our wedding anniversary. The pub is just as we expected it to be, cosy and friendly. The staff behind the bar were chatty and very friendly and the manager Hannah floated about making sure everything was working smoothly. We ate here both nights and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Having stayed at numerous hotels and B&B;'s I can honestly say that the breakfast is the best I have ever had. It was cooked to order and came out nice and hot. Never had cooked tomatoes that tasted as sweet in my life. The room was clean and comfortable as was the guest sitting room. There is plenty of information about local attractions dotted about the pub and the staff are more than happy to explain Everthing to you. Terrible experience. Horrible atmosphere as soon as we walked in. The guy working there had an attitude problem, shouting at the young female waitress and telling the whole cafe that it was her second day. Had an argument with two other customers as they'd been waiting a while for two cups of tea. Even the customer said that he is stressed and he didn't like that and began arguing. Getting all the orders wrong and blaming the young waitress. Stated he is not taking anymore orders even though I'd been sat on the table and my mum ordered just before me. I had to tell him we were together. Such an uncomfortable atmosphere. How he works in hospitality/customer service is beyond me. Clearly the wrong industry. The poor staff, clearly not a very good trainer, but not his fault. AVOID as you'll only be left disappointed and leaving with a headache.

We called and booked afternoon tea for 4 people last night to have today at 2pm. I asked for a quiet area to sit as my mother is part way through chemo. We also asked for no fishy sandwiches. We arrived slightly early but I advised reception that we were here for afternoon tea, they didn’t seem to know anything about it but we were told to wait in the lounge which was no problem, we could not buy a drink as the bar wasn’t open, so we sat and waited, the manager came and said they were just preparing it and would come and fetch us when it was ready. We waited and waited and at 2.20 my father chased it up it was then brought to us in the lounge area around 2.30 and served on a coffee table with no room for it and with salmon sandwiches. I then advised that we didn’t like the salmon sandwiches so the waiter took away the whole afternoon tea and we had to wait another 15 or so minutes to come back. It’s was absolutely disgusting, apparently the scones were freshly baked and warm when in actual fact they were rock hard and stone cold and stale and looked straight out of a packet, there was barely enough cream to spread a very thin layer on some was that hard they were inedible. The white sandwiches were stale, they egg mayonnaise sandwiches were slimy and the small cakes were still frozen. I’m quite sure they forgot we were coming and threw whatever they could together. I don’t mean to be rude or nasty but the gentleman that served us was very unkept and had an awful odour. I informed reception when I paid the bill and can 100% confirm I will not be recommending or returning. This was a very disappointing as this was the first break and outing since my mother’s diagnosis, and was definitely the worse experience of afternoon tea I’ve ever encountered.

Shocking , considering I was charged £6.50 for literally 5 spoonfuls. Prices have risen so much in the last year, ridiculous! Unfortunately the pub lacks atmosphere and we won’t be back!
