Terrible do-nuts at Shuga Shak. Not cooked properly still had raw gooey mixture in the middle and not browned at all. Either oil not hot enough or they go through the machine too quickly. Would have returned them but had already walked up into town to let them cool down a little. Complete waste of money.

Visited Sunday 10/09/23. Fish and chips, portion of chips, 2 cans of pop, 2 ketchup sachets £15.50 Accepted the price and paid. What was served was terrible. Fish overcooked and I don’t know how as there was a 15 minute wait with the place being packed. I shouldn’t have accepted the dish but just got on with it. Chips were dry. Neither is us finishing our meals, they went in the bin. Disappointed. Will not return.

Had fish n chips from the galley, can say it’s the worst fish n chips I’ve ever had 🤣 I couldn’t even put the fork into the chips, the fish had hard batter on the outside then inside it was extremely soggy. The bread bun was just old, probably out of date. Avoid 🤣🤮

Can’t put into words how bad the produce is in this place. The dressed crab “looked” good but when we got it home, we discovered that the bulk of the filling was the smaller legs from a crab. Very little white meat and no brown meat at all. A total rip off. To make matters worse we bought 2pairs of kippers at the same time. These were not smoked but dyed. The texture of the fish was iffy to say the least and all went to waste. In all we spent £19.00. They must rely on tourists because no local would ever return. Shockingly bad is all I can say.

The Galley Fish and chips, thought I’d have a treat by the seaside and at £8.50 the cost was on the high side. But there were plenty of others eating them nearby so I ordered, I waited while they were cooked fresh but what a huge disappointment. Chips were not bad and I ate half of them but the ‘fish’ was disgusting. Slimy, un-identifiable type with no flavour, black skin on and only just cooked. The batter was so dense, it was raw goo next to the fish and just solid on the outside, it was so disgusting that not even my dog would eat the fish! Back home hungry and sad I’d bothered to spend my £8.50.

Worst customer service ever. Stopped at the tea bar for a cup of tea bottle of water and a hot chocolate. Always found it a friendly place in the past. The young lad looked like he didn’t want to be there. £5.60 was all he said. No please or thank you. Then the lady who made the drinks just did tea and put it on the counter. A smile and manners go along way. There was nothing wrong with the drinks just customers service

Ordered chip butties and cups of tea, tea was OK, however the chip butties were terrible, cheap frozen chips,, the bread buns fell apart like they had been frozen at some point, I took them back and let the staff know how bad the food was, to be fair one of the ladies offered to replace with real chips from the next room which is part of the the same company, but I decided not to risk it, won't be going back, went into the town centre, far better eating places.

I visited The Galley fish and chips on the seafront at Filey at the beginning of March. I noticed a lot of people stood about, but not in the queue. When I ordered my food I got ticket number 10. About 10 mins later ticket number 1 was called. I now understood what all the people stood around were doing. I waited 40 mins for my food. When asked why it was so long, the old lady behind the counter lent over, practically nose to nose with me and said 'We're busy!'. I explained if I had known it was going to be 40 mins, I wouldn't have ordered it. She mumbled something about seeing people stood about. So how was the fish you may wonder? It looked quiet good, until I cut into it. The batter shattered and I saw a thin grey slice of nothing which is what it tasked off. The whole lot was then thrown in the bin. I would avoid this place there is a much better one at the top of the hill opposite.

Decided to invited the family out for visit to Filey and have some fish and chips. Horrendous cooking skills, the batter was hard and brittle, the base of the fish was rock solid layer of burnt batter. The fish was tasteless and poor quality, The grease left on the fish and the “chips-if this is what they were” was enough to polute the planet - it left a tast in my mouth all day. The chips were white, soggy and greasy. Do not waste your money or think this is the norm for Filey - it is not. Other professional fish and chips do exist but not at this place. Avoid at all costs.

Came down for a day from York with my friends and kids in the warm February weather. Very simple order of one strong coffee with a splash of milk and one white tea. Older women behind counter found this a little too much to ask and my request was met with a little tut. Went to get a spoon and they were all dirty and she seemed annoyed at that, so pulled the spoons away and replaced them with more, I picked up a spoon and it had a hair on it, so I passed it to the lady explaining there’s a hair, could have fallen off the way she grabbed it, and she looked at it, obviously not seeing the hair and her reaction to that was just super rude the faces she pulled. She brought the drinks over to the counter and my tea looked like dish water so I apologised for the trouble and asked if I could have the tea bag leaving in, again she tutted got a tea bag and literally threw it quite forcefully down into my cup which I was holding, causing the tea to spill out and burn me. I retracted my hand and gasped and said ‘ow’ as you do when your splashed with boiling hot liquid, for the older lady that served and threw the tea bag and the younger girl also serving behind the counter to look at me clearly noting I had been burnt by her actions and both turn away!!! As if I deserved it for been such a ‘problem’ customer with very simple requests! Not an apology, not an ‘are you ok’ not even an offer of a cold cloth to mop up the tea on my hand!! NEVER been in a situation where I’ve been burnt by a member of staff or had an accident and them blatantly ignore the fact! They’re normally full of apologies but this women just didn’t give a monkeys that she had scoulded me!! Rude rude rude!! Won’t be going back!!!

Went yesterday with my daughter who literally just wanted a chip butty...I should’ve complained immediately but she’s a teenager so hates a fuss - the chips were burnt as they’d obviously been left all day and refried numerous times. They were lukewarm, rubbery and greasy as hell! My daughters face said it all as we walked away about £2 lighter - she wouldn’t touch them - I had some and they were horrendous so they were dumped. Only a chip butty I know but if you can mess up a chip butty so badly then you really have to question what everything else is like!

Really poor-all round. Both the food and service was average. I requested the fish be lightly battered and lightly cooked which was questioned and when it arrived it was neither. I queried this and the server argued it was so I asked who had cooked it and explained who responded that he was unaware of the request. He asked if id like another, I said yes but he looked disgusted and really put out despite the offer. The final insult was the food coming slightly different but the fish was tasteless and the chips were over cooked! No wonder the small seaside town is in decline.

I visited here in June what was on an evidently busy day on the seafront. Feeling hungry I went to the Galley for fish and chips and was greeted by a team of bright and smiley staff which kindly explained there would be a 5 minute wait for some fish, which is perfectly acceptable, as good food doesn't come fast. When I got the food it was well presented and the portion size was worth so much more than what I paid. It was a tasty fish, very thick and battered to a great standard and the chips were hot and equally as nice.Do not be put off by a review which could have been put on when they were having a busy hectic time. Just give us them when they are ready instead of making us wait! I'm sure the fact that they filled the frozen chips in the bag with water before frying is a bad idea. Some guy asked for fish and chips that looked like they were battering a goldfish for him. I'm pretty sure he will remain as hungry as we are. What a load of tosh

Terrible food, cold reheated chips , cold peas, terrible :( would not recommend. Service slow , have a ticket service in play and even in quieter periods was still slow!

Called here with my partner and our dog. Ordered a bacon sandwich and a sausage sandwich. Both were well cooked and reasonably priced. Coffees were very good and served in mugs or takeaway receptacles. The Hygiene logo was visible and it showed that this establishment had 5 stars. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. It was a pleasure to sit and look at the sea whilst eating our snacks. Would recommend.

I have just had a fab egg banjo, (fried egg sandwich) which came with two eggs both of which were lovely and runny on a delicious bap, awesome food for energy. Well worth a visit.

According to Wikipedia; a Galley is a low, flat ship 'chiefly used for warfare or piracy and often manned by slaves or criminals'. After ordering a chip butty from this place I certainly feel robbed from pirates, and fed by criminals. The food was bad, and took ages to be prepared. If I'm floating by Filey again, I'll wait for another ship to save me from hunger.

Had a chip butty and a double cheeseburger with tea and hot chocolate. Nice that we were offered mugs rather than disposable takeaway cups. Food was okay for a seaside visit out of season.

A trip to Filey is not complete without a walk to the Coble Landing and hopefully to the beach and brig if the tide allows. The Tea Bar is an institution, open all weathers and a welcome sight when coming off the beach. There are tables and chairs in front, a great view of the sweep of the bay and straightforward choice of hot and cold drinks, hot snacks. And cheap. My favourite is definitely a portion of chips and a hot tea after the bracing walks around. An institution and a tradition for many locals and visitors.

Arrived on Filey beach early, on a very cold Saturday morning. We all had a cuppa and a toasted teacake - perfect start to our visit! I stayed on and had more coffee, whilst the others went exploring. Lovely coffee and a beautiful location!

I know you expect nice fish and chips at the coast but these really were exceptional. There was quite a queue and a bit of a wait but they were very reasonably priced and well worth the wait. They do kids portions too which makes it even more purse friendly.

We always pop in here when in Filey, last week I turned up at 8pm half expecting it to be shutting up. However the young lady serving was happy to cook us fresh fish and chips to be enjoyed by the sea.

This is my wife's favourite coffee spot. We have a caravan at Primrose Valley and have been visiting this coffee spot for some time. The only thing we have had in 8 years is coffee but it's always lovely and milky and in a proper mug. Service is always prompt with a smile too

Have been calling here for more years than I care to remember - part of tradition of visiting the area now. Always a lovely hot brew in a proper mug - Horlicks is perfection on a chilly day. Lovely traditional hot & cold snacks & a seating area that overlooks Filey beach with great views. Service always great & staff always friendly.

We called and booked afternoon tea for 4 people last night to have today at 2pm. I asked for a quiet area to sit as my mother is part way through chemo. We also asked for no fishy sandwiches. We arrived slightly early but I advised reception that we were here for afternoon tea, they didn’t seem to know anything about it but we were told to wait in the lounge which was no problem, we could not buy a drink as the bar wasn’t open, so we sat and waited, the manager came and said they were just preparing it and would come and fetch us when it was ready. We waited and waited and at 2.20 my father chased it up it was then brought to us in the lounge area around 2.30 and served on a coffee table with no room for it and with salmon sandwiches. I then advised that we didn’t like the salmon sandwiches so the waiter took away the whole afternoon tea and we had to wait another 15 or so minutes to come back. It’s was absolutely disgusting, apparently the scones were freshly baked and warm when in actual fact they were rock hard and stone cold and stale and looked straight out of a packet, there was barely enough cream to spread a very thin layer on some was that hard they were inedible. The white sandwiches were stale, they egg mayonnaise sandwiches were slimy and the small cakes were still frozen. I’m quite sure they forgot we were coming and threw whatever they could together. I don’t mean to be rude or nasty but the gentleman that served us was very unkept and had an awful odour. I informed reception when I paid the bill and can 100% confirm I will not be recommending or returning. This was a very disappointing as this was the first break and outing since my mother’s diagnosis, and was definitely the worse experience of afternoon tea I’ve ever encountered.

Terrible experience. Horrible atmosphere as soon as we walked in. The guy working there had an attitude problem, shouting at the young female waitress and telling the whole cafe that it was her second day. Had an argument with two other customers as they'd been waiting a while for two cups of tea. Even the customer said that he is stressed and he didn't like that and began arguing. Getting all the orders wrong and blaming the young waitress. Stated he is not taking anymore orders even though I'd been sat on the table and my mum ordered just before me. I had to tell him we were together. Such an uncomfortable atmosphere. How he works in hospitality/customer service is beyond me. Clearly the wrong industry. The poor staff, clearly not a very good trainer, but not his fault. AVOID as you'll only be left disappointed and leaving with a headache.

This has got to be the worst room I have ever stayed in. Dirty floors, dead spider behind bathroom door, wallpaper peeling off, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, mould in the shower. This place is not just basic it's filthy. Don't waste your money.

Just tried to get a seat here but was showed off by another customer saying she did not want us near her. Waitress told us she didn't like anyone near her. We left. Avoid
