Came with my friend after seeing it had reopened and pics looked nice. Menu is varied and good choice, we decided to get a mezze and spring rolls UK a share, mezze was really good value £7.50 all fresh and obviously care taken, springs rolls also good. Was very impressed.

Goodness me! what a depressing hole! Looked ok on booking.com but it was shabby, smelly and dire. Rooms and bar need serious attention, even the staff were miserable. Go somewhere else!

Came here for a trip with some colleagues. The location of the Hotel is fantastic as it's over the road from the train station and central....breakfast was also good.....hence the 2 stars. The Hotel is in desperate need of redecorating and a deep clean. The carpets in our room (the Liz taylor) had red spots all over it....appeared to be blood. The extractor fan in the bathroom was hanging off as you can see. Resembled American Horror Story Hotel.

Stopped for one next (thank god was just one night) before we set of for Whitby , been to Scarborough a few times over the years & stayed near the front , which is what I’ll be doing in the future. If you are looking for somewhere near the train station with the town centre on your door step well this is the place for you , also having a pub underneath , that also sells food and they party until midnight. The location was ideal and we parked in the train station car park for £4.20 for 24hrs which was value for money . But the rooms are very dated, the outside looks nice but it’s the interior that needs looking at each room has a theme which consists of a picture on the wall ? Not really themed, rooms are cold so take pjs , they have an electric wall heater that warms up after a few hours, bed linen was clean enough, but it is desperate need of updated, painting, needs a good clean and fixtures fixing. I think it’s ideal if your just wanting a night out and your head down for the night ,your in your 20s celebrating a birthday etc... I appreciate places can be busy or short staffed but close rooms off until they up to a certain standard , but you get what you pay for

It has character, it's different, its a pub. 2 people, free car parking, bed, breakfast, centre of town, all for £50. Bedding was clean, beds were comfortable, breakfast was very good. The whole building is shabby and passed it's best, but a perfectly decent place to stay. I noticed some curious graffiti scratched into a window pane dating from 1867. Thankfully not a Premier Lodge.

I always feel nervous to stay at a hotel on my own and unfortunately I did feel that was somewhat eased! Having said that the staff are very friendly! But have to say the rooms are slightly overly priced! I only had one night and it wasn’t the best sleep I’ve had, my bed was very creaky and felt loose, the bed had an unattached bedstead which I felt wasn’t made for that specific bed another thing about that bed is that on the base of the divan is bent (could snap at any point) which could be the cause the bed creaking and moving! Unfortunately the breakfast wasn’t that hot but what I did eat was nice! The outside of the hotel looks really well looked after and clean for an old building however I feel maybe the inside needs an update as I felt it was a similar outlook to faulty towers (in a good way!) Last thing if you have a kettle in a room you need cups to drink out of, although I must admit I wasn’t in the room long enough to need to use it! I was provided with bottles of water and some nibbles which I felt was a lovely gesture! Putting all that aside as I say staff are very friendly and they go out there to help you! Non of the above is negative it just a bit of advice!

I attended this establishment last week, it's a really authentic place in the way you can smell the 1950s the moment you walk in. Immediately to my left was a gang of youngsters who were watching my friends bag like a velociraptor, one asked us for a 'roll up.' I took this as a peace offering. To my right was a good looking female who I may of asked for a date only she was wearing an animal print fleece, (you know the ones with the Wolf picture embedded.)when I got to the bar I noticed it was clean and the staff were quite friendly and smiled, which was a bonus. The drinks were fairly priced and actually tasted crisp. My problem was the toilets, upon entering I felt like I'd been hit in the face with a turd, it was horrendous. The mirror had blood on it, there was wet tissue paper in the sink and it left a breadcrumb trail to the toilet, I looked inside the bowl and to my surprise there was a little brown present gift wrapped, all snug, in some wet tissue paper!!! I guessed what the gift was through the near transparent gift wrap and I'm happy to tell you I didn't accept. I made a point of notifying the staff and they cleaned it up.so fairplay. Overall a nice place to have a drink but the clientel worry me slightly and the toilets were not to my standard. Staff were great though.

Final stop on my Scarborough trip as it was closest to the station. Quiet time with very few drinkers in. Looked like it needed a bit of a refurbishment. Beer was ok and service quick. Not sure I would return given other choices in town.

Yes the pub is in need of updating however the staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The breakfast was fab and the hotel room was clean and tidy. Fantastic idea of children's play area on the second floor. This was definitely used whilst we struggled for something to do whilst it was raining. I am aware that it is under new management so hey give them a break as I will certainly be returning. Thank you to all. See you soon

Have just returned from a 2 Night stay with family from The Old Vic, very disappointed to say the least.. From checking in staff didn't seem interested and didn't seem to know what they was doing then arriving to our room to find it dirty and not properly cleaned.. Poor linen on bedding and no change of towels or room clean in 2 days.. Breakfast very poor and served by children with no supervision. Hotel in desperate need of refurbishment and bit of tlc.. Can be noisy as above a lively pub. Would not go back even though room for 5 suited!

Hard time getting in touch with the events manager, tables dirty from breakfast we had to use baby wipes to clean them. Chairs all over the place not even arranged round tables. Pumps not working no half pint glasses no juices, no plates for buffet no knives or forks so how you were supposed to eat the past salads etched I don't know. Waiting fifteen minutes at a time at the bar as the poor bar man, who was the only one one, and was running around trying to sort the mess the events manager had left him and us in out , the poor young man cod not apologies enough and was the only saving grace. Then they had blocked the large side room of ,as it is being renovated to accommodate a soft play room, with a large heavy screen but still allowed people to work in there and come in and out, which is like a red rag to a bull for little children. The screen was then knocked over onto 2young children trapping them underneath. The manageress of the bar came straight up when she came in and could not be nicer, apologising to us and returning our deposit. We have been trying to get in touch with the events organiser since but she seems to be "unavailable" all in all a terrible experience and what should have been a celebration was ruined.

Went here for a family function. I arrived a little after my wife as I approached the table she was sat at it looked dirty. My first impression was right it was sticky and dirty. The glass that one of the drinks was served in had a brown streak on the outside. It was just poured into a clean glass. The buffet was unwrapped at our request then we found our there was not plates to put food in. No labels on the food so as a vegetarian is not good. Plus nor forks to eat coleslaw etc with, the forks arrived after most had eaten.Went back for another J2O drink only to be told none left. Went back to table and we saw a coffee machine so ordered two coffee only to be told " I will have to go down stairs" off you go then. The coffee's were only £1 each but just instant coffee's one in a dirty cup (see photo) only on the handle. With modern dishwashers this should not happen and it was in a viable location.Off to the toilets only to have the sticky theme returned as doors and walls sticky. Must be something they do with the cleaning. The ladies toilet area had big water leak on the floor. They must have known about it as there was a mop and bucket ready for use.I understand a play room was booked for the children but this was not ready. The play room door was glass for some reason they put a temporary collapsing screen upfront but the children had already seen some of the play things. Then one them knocked the screen over onto one of the toddler's.Not a very pleasant experience.

We were in Scarborough for the day and looking for somewhere to eat. Everywhere was busy but when we reached The Old Vic there was a sign outside advertising 2 meals for £9 and when we went in it was nice and quiet. The food and drinks we ordered were tasty and good. The toilets and pub could do with updating but if you want somewhere cheap and quiet to eat then this is a good place.

We stayed in the Old Vic for one night recently as we visited Scarborough for a friends birthday. To say the group was dissapointed is an understatement. When we arrived and checked in, it was total chaos. The guy behind the bar didnt know what he was doing and it took over half an hour to get sorted. Once sorted we all dropped our bags off in the rooms...well..........it was like boot camp, very cold as there was no heating and almost every single room had draughty windows (not good when its -6 on the east coast with a eastly wind blowing)The beds where uncomfortable and we all found the service very disrespectful. The beakfast....in a word WOW!! in mates probably eat better grub then what they served up. Very cheap under cooked breakfast only good thing about it was the tea and toast (which you have to make yourself)The worst thing about this stay was checking out!! Bearing in mind we had just put £750.00 in the till for one nights stay plus over £150.00 over the bar on drinks etc... the owners of the pub/boot camp were not happy with that. They charge some of the lads £10.00 for not been able to gain entry back into the hotel because the key wouldnt work. The only thing we can put this down to is greed!! Obviosuly the extra £10.00 meant more to them then it did us.We go to Scarborough around the same time every year as a group of lads/mates and we can honeslty say she will not be getting our custom again and she wont be getting our £900.00 in a hurry. To sum the stay up...top night out but very disapointed with this hotel and greed of the staff/owners and wont be going back. Next year we will look for somewhere with heating and decent beds for a warm overnight stay

We called in yesterday for Sunday lunch as we were in the area and had no other plans. We saw the advertising board outside and felt hungry. It was two for a tenner. The staff were very friendly and the bar was enormous being indicative of a building of that era. We went up to get our food. It was a carvery and the serving lady carving the meat was in a bit of a tizzy. She could not cut the pork or beef despite many attempts! She began to look really embarrassed and made excuses about not being big enough to reach the joints as the bar was too high. To save her further embarrassment I suggested that the 4 carving knives that she tried were all blunt. OK.......the meat was tough, the toilets were horrible and the meal was not good. I must add that they had a folk singer on live. He was good.

I have been here a few times to use the bar and also for bar meals. I believe it is a hotel, but ive never stayed or seen the rooms. What i can say i that The Old Vic is conveniently located opposite the Railway station and close to the town centre. The bar in the evening seems quite lively and they offer quite a lot of promotions. However the real surprise for this pub, that to be honest looks pretty standard from the outside is the good quality bar meals. The menu ranges from baguettes to full meals, pizzas etc and they are all extremely well priced. I had been expecting bog standard microwave meals, and was surprised that the meals are all accompanied by lovely fresh mixed salad on the side- a welcome departure from the usual soggy lettuce leafs!
