Lovely little place, great food and drinks. Wonderful to relax. They also have a cute book and play area for kids to chill out in!

What a lovely little cafe. The best bacon sandwich I've had. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.

What a great place! We always have fish and chips when in Whitby but found out about this place online prior to our day trip. We can get pretty decent fish and chips at home so given the great reviews about this place we thought we’d buck the trend. We were not disappointed. Humble Pie is a small place full of character, the 1940s theme is great and the pies are amazing. Staff were lovely and the service was super fast, a relatively small menu means you don’t have to spend ages perusing it and you know whatever you order will be top drawer. We got the steak and stout and the minced beef and onion pies, both were fantastic. There is a lot to be said for pie, mash and mushy peas served on a tin plate with a mug of delicious Yorkshire tea. As a bonus every table has a bottle of Henderson relish on it! Fantastic place with great food. Today we ate humble pie and it was good.

Expensive for a breakfast at £11.50 for a standard and £13.50 for a large which took 15 mins to come which I don’t mind if it’s freshly cooked and arrives hot ! Forgot mushroom on one plate Egg hard like rubber Bacon cold Mushrooms cold when they finally arrived. 2 Teaspoons of beans in small metal pot also cold. After complaining they took away our breakfast and heated them in the microwave and brought back out ! We heard the ping of the microwave! 🫣 All pre prepared and stored in Bain Marie heater apparently after complaining we were Told this and also an excuse that if the plates were not pre heated that can make the breakfast cold too. When I mentioned my egg being hard and rubbery with no runny yolk she’s asked me if I had requested it well done ! 😂

The fish is crispy outside and the meat is just nice, lying soft inside. We had sole and plaice, we really like it. The staffs are attentive and polite. We tried the crockery as well, sour and nice with the fish and chips.

We returned here for a sixth year in a row and weren’t disappointed. Would definitely recommend to others - food is delicious with a varied menu and lots of vegetarian options. Food is some of the best in Whitby. Thank you!

We visitedtwice over 2 days during a weekend with friends in Whitby. The Black Horse ticked all the boxes - the staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was excellent - we tried a number of dishes, all great. The drinks were a fantastic selection of local brew, old favourites, and a solid variety of staples. If you want to see a good, old fashioned, and welcoming Yorkshire pub, with excellent, fresh, homemade food - this is the place for you!

Good service, nice and cosy, had to wait at door until seated, I had bacon & egg sandwich, sandwich was bigger than the plate, tried to cut it and because there was a napkin under neath and it was a runny yoke it was nightmare to eat, more fat than bacon probably worst bacon & egg sandwich I've had 🤯

Busy restaurant but still great service and food was really good. Allowed dogs in. Reasonable pricing. Food came in adequate time to say it was busy. Would recommend

Couldn't fault the quantity cost or quality. Ordered from the vegan menu chips curry sauce and pea fritter. Only problem was the food wasn't piping hot surprising since it was cooked to order in a deep fat fryer.

Rude staff with the worst food hygiene standards I have ever seen. I have reported to the local council and Environmental Agency. How they have a 5 star hygiene rating is beyond me, I imagine their last inspection was a long time ago. During our visit, it was extremely quiet, and when asking to order specific items from the menu, it was as though we had asked for the world. Eyes rolling and complete attitude. Avoid at all costs.

Me and my husband came in on Saturday and we were amazed at how friendly the staff was and how cheap and lovely the food was . My husband had a full English and a cup of tea and I had a toasted tea cake with a lovely frothy coffee my husband said the breakfast was delicious and spot on. The young woman who served us was so polite , very kind and very helpful and the young gentleman who was clearing the table was also very friendly and kind and so was the lady behind the counter. Over all if you are in Whitby make sure you stop by because it’s worth every penny definitely would come back (ps if any of the staff see this I did put a review on google as well but for some reason it was taken off ❤️)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who followed the gents toilet sign and ended up outside looking confused and pained. Staff seemed a little grumpy when we called in, except for a young chap (possibly Polish) who was very helpful and courteous to the guests checking in. I've never seen one person carry as many bags since sherpa Tenzing helped Sir Edmond Hillary up mount Everest.

I recently dined at the White Horse and Griffin, and it was a complete disappointment. My sister-in-law, who dined with me, got her meal at half price after she raised a complaint, but when I did the same, the manager flat-out refused to discount mine. The excuse? Because I had eaten my meal, it was “too late to complain.” This is absolutely ridiculous — as a customer, I should still be able to express dissatisfaction, especially when the meal was so underwhelming. For £24, I was served a chicken leg, half a tomato, and a small potato. What a joke! The portion was tiny, the food was average, and the lack of customer service was downright frustrating. I won’t be returning, and I highly advise others to avoid this place unless you want to be treated unfairly.
