What a great place! We always have fish and chips when in Whitby but found out about this place online prior to our day trip. We can get pretty decent fish and chips at home so given the great reviews about this place we thought we’d buck the trend. We were not disappointed. Humble Pie is a small place full of character, the 1940s theme is great and the pies are amazing. Staff were lovely and the service was super fast, a relatively small menu means you don’t have to spend ages perusing it and you know whatever you order will be top drawer. We got the steak and stout and the minced beef and onion pies, both were fantastic. There is a lot to be said for pie, mash and mushy peas served on a tin plate with a mug of delicious Yorkshire tea. As a bonus every table has a bottle of Henderson relish on it! Fantastic place with great food. Today we ate humble pie and it was good.

If a place is brave enough to advertise it serves one primary dish, being Pie, mash and peas, then Gordon Ramsey would approve. Do something simple and do it well. This place delivered in spades. Fantastic place. Well worth a visit.

We visited out of season, mid week, in about the middle of the afternoon. The food was exactly what it says on the tin, if you like pie and mash then you can pretty confident that you will enjoy the food they serve - it's excellent. It's a very old building and they have gone for a 1920's to 1940's theme. The service is quick and friendly. Overall it's a lovely place, selling decent quality, reasonably priced food and they do everything with a smile.

We had a few reasons for visiting Whitby. There are many actually, but included in the top three things to do in Whitby for us is to eat humble pie at the Humble Pie n Mash Co. The charm of the place is off the charts. The staff are absolutely lovely (No surprise there, it's Yorkshire!) the service is super friendly and the food is proper, hearty, tasty and filling. Good, old fashioned grub. Served the way it should be. I was so proud to sit there eating my slow braised steak n stout pie, in that old 40s themed atmosphere I almost had tears in my eyes. That's off the charts! My wife and I both absolutely loved it and are currently thinking of moving to Whitby permanently just to keep coming back. Love ya, Humble Pie n Mash Co. Thank you for food from the heart. You made this old lad very happy.

Far more choice on website than is actually available. But as we were all hungry ordered from the limited choice. Soon after we had our food the waitress asked if everything was okay. I said no, it's far too salty. She just said "oh" and walked away. I realised she wasn't going to offer an alternative so tried my best to eat it - managed about half. When it came to pay I asked for a discount and was told that no-one else had complained. That's hardly the point, I wasn't happy with my food! Eventually agreed to knock my meal off the bill but with bad grace. The place itself is not very nice, I think they're aiming for 40s 50s vibe. But it's just tatty with plastic table cloths. .

This was our second visit to Humble Pie, after previously enjoying a delicious pie and peas meal here on a visit a few years ago. On that occasion the atmosphere, service and naturally the food were all of a high standard. Unfortunately on this occasion both my wife and I were disappointed as it didn't live up to our previous experience, the reason for our return. We queued outside for about half an hour, during which time, take away orders appeared to take preference over dining in customers. It seemed like a shuttle service getting a table. A cup of tea arrived whilst the food was being prepared, steak pie, mushy peas, mash and gravy. A while after the order was placed we were offered garden peas as the mushy peas had run out! When the food arrived, the pie was overcooked and the pastry hard. My wife's pie was inadequately heated and a dollop of mash with a minimal amount of gravy was presented. Extremely disappointing for the price and definitely not value for money. We shall not be returning! A shame really.

I used to love coming here but not been in a few years, I went at the weekend and the food was very disappointing and unfortunately will not be going again. I ordered a coffee extremely cheap coffee tasted like water, the pie was lovely but the bangers and mash was awful, firstly I’m confused why we were served specifically 2 and a half sausages, they were very low quality meat awful texture and we had to wait half an hour for mash which was served hard and lumpy, mash is very easy to make there’s no reason to be served undercooked lumpy mash. Did not enjoy the food or drinks overall. For the prices they charge I expect decent quality food.

We've eaten here before and know the pie and mash is a feast to behold and has previously been excellent value for money. We ate there again this week and we're shocked at how much the cost had increased, despite their website saying all pies, mash n peas are £11.99, we actually paid £13.99! It's a shame as it is a great alternative to fish n chips (£1 cheaper across the road). I know everything has gone up for everyone, but it just felt the price did not reflect the quality and quantity previously experienced, and at this price it's not so humble.

Wow, walked down to East Ayton from the Lodge for evening meal and found Walkers Fish Restaurant. Yes dog friendly so found our seats. Menu was large not just Fish and Chips. Both chose haddock, mine battered but Peg chose grilled (how good is that). Followed that with a wide selection of ice cream. They gave us a small plate for each of the 2 pets to share ours. If in the area we will be back again and would recommend checking the menu to see the lovely choice then going.

O dear. Loved this place: young enthusiastic staff, wide variety of gins and other interesting drinks, super salads, open and closed sandwiches. Our Whitby destination alongside a good wet fish shop. Now just another caff. Good luck to the ladies running it but it needs to be smartened and the grubby menus replaced. We should have known when we arrived at 1pm on a sunny midterm day: deserted quadrangle and mostly empty indoors.
