Was highly recommended to us by many but sadly disappointed in potion size and quality of cod 😞

Hadleys was always our choice for many years. Most recent visits resulted in unsatisfactory meals. Last visit fish was overcooked (waitress grudgingly apologised and did nothing) also overpriced for portion size. Previous meal, again, overpriced and poor portion size. Seems to get worse every visit. Never mind, plenty of excellent alternatives in Whitby.

Great food, ideally located in the town centre. Reasonably priced and area allowed to sit with well behaved dogs.

Went to Whitby for the day, called in and had fish and salad, lovely pot of tea, staff were very helpful, friendly, well worth trying

Orderd to large fish and chip specials. Get tea bread and peas. Got only one fish special . Asked about other one they said sorry will do straight away . No peas or cup of tea. So asked about it. They said would not charge me but bill had full price. Second fish was very small took pictures of it. Never go back

We are regulars to Whitby and always head to Hadley's for our F & C's. Tasty, generous sized fish, lovely chips. Staff helpful and friendly and very child friendly. Highly recommend!

A super, traditional fish and chip restaurant. Great service, nicely cooked fresh fish and dog-friendly, which was a huge bonus due to the traditional Yorkshire weather we were enjoying that day.

There are plenty of fish and chips places to choose from in Whitby, but we choose this because it is dog friendly. The service was great, we were sat and served quickly the staff were polite and friendly. The food was good, and the portion size was perfect. If you're having beer on draft, it comes in a schooner rather than a pint. There is also a good selection of drinks from the York Brewery.

Our absolute favourite place for fish n chips in Whitby! Portions are perfect and food is delicious. We love the meal deal. Always friendly service and helpful staff.

Large haddock, chips, peas, bread & proper butter and a glass of Heineken. All very well cooked and quality but the peas lacked in quantity, especially when you consider the price. The haddock had skin on. Medium cod, chips, peas, bread and proper butter and a tea. All well cooked and quality but again the peas lacked in quantity. The portion of chips and peas is the same for large as it is for medium. The staff were very good especially when you consider how busy this place is.

Lovely food and plentiful. Good service and competitively priced. We enjoy our annual pilgrimage here.

I have been going to Hadley’s since I was six year old with my mum and dad now I take my wife, daughter and granddaughter absolutely love it

nice restaurant. we went in quite late so some items not available,but thats our fault not theirs. chips and scampi were very good but steak pie was a little dry. probably as it was late in the day. staff were friendly and sevice was quick. would eat here again but not leave it so late.

Given the fact that Hadleys broadcast the fact they are an award winning establishment we found it severely lacking. It was average at best. Soggy batter on both haddock and cod and greasy too.

When we were visiting Whitby last year we were looking for a place that was dog friendly and came across Hadley's. Why not try fish and chips, we thought. Great idea. A welcoming service, space for our greyhound and ourselves in a quiet corner and, most importantly, great food. We have been back to Whitby a couple of times since and have called back to Hadley's on both occasions. Service was still the same; a wonderful place to go.

We visited today, and can only say how average it was, the fish was lovely and white but my plate was swimming in grease, the chips were decent too, but our mushy peas and pot of tea were cold, come on you have to serve food and tea hot!! Having said all this we had a lovely polite young man waiting on our table. Not the worst Fish and chips we have had, but I expected better in Whitby and after sampling some of the other restaurants on previous visits to Whitby I definitely know there is better.

I had the haddock, my wife had cod. Both cooked to perfection with light crispy batter. Lovely.

Not my first time there, which speaks for itself. Food is delicious and the atmosphere is really nice. Service mostly good, but some staff seemed liked they could not be bothered, but it did not affect overall experience. Doggies are welcome which is great. I would definitely recommend it. Especially cod with chips! 😄

We went there as a family after reading the reviews on trip advisor and we where pleasantly surprised by the food, service and the value for money.

Dangerous & Racism restaurant. My friend got soooo bad injury in the restaurant as the stairs were fxxking wet and they didn’t wipe the floor. She fell from the tall stairs, got killing pain and even can’t sit or walk. The manager escaped from the hospital after he sent my friend, the stairs were dangerous and wet but they lied and denied that because they thought my friend and I were all asian women, we are not white people, and we are not living here. During the lunch, one of the waiter ignored us several times and she only served the local white people sitting on other desks. The racism behavior got worse after the accident Don’t go to this restaurant, unless you would like to get you neck broken and the reataurant won’t take their responbility because they know there is not a camera.

The perfect lunch on a rainy half term day out in Whitby with two children. Portions a good size, staff friendly and knowledgable.

Popped in on the off chance there was room. Major thumbs up for being dog friendly. Food was very good quality, menu not over full and fancy, prices as expected. The service was good, and the restaurant and toilets nice and clean. Disappointing there were no deserts on offer at all?

We have been to Whitby many times over the years and have really enjoyed our fish and chips at Hadleys. It’s been a few years and we were pleased to be taking my sister for her first experience after we’ve raved about you can’t beat fish and chips in Whitby. What a let down, we could have been eating fish and chips from any chippy anywhere in the country. The fish portion size was very disappointing, my husband nearly asked for a small portion of chips because there are usually far too many but I am glad he didn’t. We won’t be back here. We will try another establishment.

Polite staff and seated and served within 10mins. Very nice fish n chips etc and even better with a pint. Didn't disappoint!

Poor experience all round. The staff were disorganised, poor service and border line rude. Food was ok, but over priced for the portion size. We had to ask 5 times for some milk for a cup of tea, the final time having to leave table to find a member of staff, one meal turned up 10 minutes after the rest and it was only a plate of chips, again had to ask 3 or 4 times. Too top it all off we were later chastised by a member of staff, for mistakenly leaving through the entrance door, although there wasn't anyone there waiting to be seated. Whilst I'm sure there was, I can't say we noticed a signpost saying not to leave. Just to add they were not very busy at the time, so would expect a half decent level of service. There are plenty of fish and chip shops in Whitby to choose from, this has to be the worst experience and expensive in any for sometime. As a regular frequenter of Whitby Fish and Chip shops we won't be rushing back.

Went on the 13th October 2023, the staff were very friendly. The waiter even offered us the special menu option even though it was nearly 6pm and the menu only offered the deal until 3pm. We had a regular and a large cod and chips and it was delicious, freshly cooked pipping hot and the fish was beautifully fresh large flakes of really white moist fish would definitely recommend

Had a drive to Whitby from Lincoln. We had a lovely time walking around town, then we went for something to eat at Hadley's we had a small & regular cod n chips, mushy peas & a curry sauce... And I must say it was really nice & dog friendly, the food was very tasty we enjoyed every bit of it... I would highly recommend Hadley's.

I & my family had early evening meal of fish & chips. Service was very friendly & efficient. The fish was very fresh & beautifully cooked to order. Portion sizes good. Overall, an excellent experience l would throughly recommend.

Delicious fish & chips. Fish was so fresh, it was the best I've had for a long time. I had a small portion & it was enough for me. Other family members had large & medium portions which were fairly generous. Staff very attentive & accommodating.

Booked in advance, but on the night we could have got in anyway. Good table, comfortable, not crowded. Served straight away, overall good experience.

We arrived shortly before closing . The staff were very polite and seated us quickly. My partner is Gluten Intolerant and was able to have in her words “ the best gluten free batter ever “ The food arrived quickly and was all very good . The regular cod was a huge portion. My only minor quibble was the curry sauce was a little runny ( but I’m a curry sauce snob) Even though it was clear the staff were cleaning ready to go home we never felt rushed. We’ve now found a new favourite place to eat in Whitby. And very reasonably priced compared to others in the area

We have been coming to this fish shop for many years, but this visit was terrible, the chips on our fish and chips were not cooked, they were almost raw. How can a fish shop NOT cook chips properly, very disappointing.

After a day spent a day exploring Whitby we needed a fish and chip lunch and chose to return to our favourite, Hadley's. Prompt and friendly service was followed by a great cod and chip meal but we had to settle for regular sized as there was no large available. It was an ample portion and beautifully cooked. Look out for the Hake on the specials board - sadly there was none to be had this time round for us. So much choice for fish and chips in the town but Hadley's is highly recommended.

Cod and chips were delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was speedy despite the restaurant being full, and the staff were very pleasant. Will be back again soon.

Went at lunchtime. It was busy but well organised and we were quickly shown to a table. The food was hot and well cooked and good value for money. My pot of tea had no teabag but this was quickly rectified. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Called in while in Whitby with the family. Great that you can choose the size of your fish, so accommodated everyone in the party. Good sized portions and a decent price. Not too greasy and tasty fish. Need to update the drinks menu as each soft drink we asked for has now been substituted, which is OK, but is a bit of a pain for the staff having to state each time.

Normally when we’re at the seaside we like nothing better than eating fish and chips in the open air. However we decided to eat in at Harley’s and have their Yorkshire hospitality. We’re certainly glad we did - fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of steaming Yorkshire tea all served with a friendly smile. Fantastic fish - so fresh, highly recommended.

We were going to go to another shop but saw the reviews for here and it did not disappoint! The young guy who served us was super polite and helpful. Fish and chips were the best my friend & I have had. It wasn’t greasy, it was cooked perfectly. The painted walls was a lovely touch and added to the experience! Would definitely return if we venture that way again and would recommend!

Dog friendly excellent fish and chips

We had a beautiful fish and chips meal. The service was excellent. This all went towards making our day brilliant.

A small wait to get in today but not too long. Service was good and the young waiting staff were very attentive even though the place was very busy.

After a fruitless search looking for somewhere to sit down and eat (not easy in Whitby on a Thursday evening) we dropped on Hadley's, and I'm glad we did. A clean and well laid out restaurant, with reasonable prices and generous portions, although it is a fish restaurant so may not be your choice if you don't want something see based. The meals when arrived were cooked to perfection, and the accompanying chips were delicious. The place is also licenced, with a decent wine choice as well as beers, so definitely a great choice. Very pleased, and happy to come back on my next trip to whitby

Excellent. Very good product and helpful, courteous staff. My one reservation is that I tried to use the upstairs loo and found it in darkness with no obvious light switch. I was told the area was not in use but there had been no sign of any reason to think this was the case when I ascended the staircase up to the brightly lit area through which you walk to get to the loos. A sign or roped off area might have helped. Otherwise an excellent visit and I'd certainly come again or recommend it to others.

Had the best gluten free fish and chips with mushy peas ,I have ever had! My husband had the haddock fish and chips with scampi and we both can highly recommend Hadleys if you ever in Whitby's.

Change of menu which is more limited than previously which is a shame. Meal deal was absolutely fine but I think the portion size has reduced which I am sure is due to the general increase in overheads

Fantastic dog friendly place for fish and chips. The food was very good and great value. Service was excellent. We had our Collie with us and she tucked in nicely under our feet. Be aware though that other dogs may not be so well behaved. There is a one dog rule but one family had 3 Daschunds which barked the whole time and one took a bad tempered lunge at ours as they left. Absolute nightmare for everyone there. Should have been asked to take them out. Despite that incident we would definitely go back and highly recommend it.

Hadleys has always been my go to place when in Whitby and I have recommended them to numerous people, but my last visit was beyond disappointing. The fish was poor and had bones in it, the bread was close to stale, and service was poor.

There was a bit of a wait to be seated when we arrived, but they were busy, and it was lunchtime. The staff were very friendly and the wait wasn't long due to the number of tables in the venue. The food was fresh and relatively quick to arrive at our table. Child friendly and plenty of highchairs available. Thus was our 2nd visit to Hadley's, the first being pre lockdown. Excellent fish and chips, and I will be taking the family on our next trip to Whitby.

Fish and chips in Whitby is a must (even though I already live in the North East coast) and we've already tried several fish and chip places in the past. Hadley's is in the other side of the swing bridge and possibly gets overlooked by the majority of people who only get as far as the quayside. We've passed and commented on trying it in the past and today we did. I got fish and chips with mushy peas and my wife got unbattered fish with salad which looked good and she really enjoyed. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, staff were pleasant and service was quick. I would happily return again.

Everything we could’ve asked for! We had booked the restaurant a few days in advance and they did a great job of catering for our large group of eight. The fish and chips were delicious and were the best we have had In Whitby. The facilities were super clean and felt so welcoming. The restaurant included many amazing murals painted across the walls which we felt added a layer or character to the building. The food was served in 10 minutes and given that we had eight people in our group, it was very impressive. The staff were very good and knew exactly what they were doing - they were very professional. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and were very pleased we went. If you need fish and chips In Whitby, this is the place to go!

Had a family meal here, 😋 we was greeted and seated in a very welcoming manner, the atmosphere was a nice vibe and busy too, now on to the service the drinks arrived first well presented and served to us. Then the food which was honestly the best I have ever tasted and I am a grimsby girl and love my fish and chips and I am also a self confest food. Ten out of ten could recommend this to anyone willingly.

Had a fantastic fish and chip meal here tonight. I pre-booked as we had a dog and a family member in a wheelchair. Arrived 15 minutes early which wasn't a problem, table size and location was perfect for the 5 of us and easy access for the wheelchair. The meal arrived, 5 cod and chips with peas and curry sauce, pots of tea and soft drinks. Really great food, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were able to order smaller sizes for those without huge appetites, these were £11 each, peas and curry sauce were optional extras which we added on. Drinks reasonably priced too. Great food, friendly staff, speedy service and a nice atmosphere made this well worth a visit. Definitely recommend 👌

Meal wasn't bad until wife had a bite of sausage with batter that was spicy. And the drinks of pepsi were obismal. Tasted just like syrup. Very poor

We went in, were seated and after being left sat twiddling our thumbs we left! Terrible service..... We went to Terry's, a few mins walk away, absolutely brilliant, welcoming and prompt service. Food is fantastic too 👍🏻

Plenty of tables, specials board, had Monkfish cheeks and chips, mushy peas. Quite good, needed draining of oil a little longer. Good menu choice.

Staff pleasant and attentive and the food was excellent. The fish was cooked to perfection and the batter was light and crisp chips and mushy peas topped it off
