Visited on 01.02.25 with my wife, daughter and dog. Ordered the £18.95 special which included a regular cod, chips, peas, pot of tea and bread. I requested haddock with the skin removed but was refused this option. When the food arrived, the regular cod was no bigger than a battered sausage. Thin throughout and poor. I had to request more chips as my wife’s portion was almost double the small quantity of scrappy chips I had been given. The mushy peas although tasty, were a cold smear at the side of the plate. My wife found 3 large bones in her fish. The bread was stale too. Overall hugely disappointing and overly expensive.

After an exhausting day of walking around Whitby trying to find somewhere to have lunch we came across Hadley's which was the only restaurant we found with plenty of seating available!! Meal was delicious. Served extremely quickly and piping hot. Very friendly staff too. Would highly recommend Hadley's for fish and chips in Whitby 😋 🐟🍟

Visited today, Was stood outside for around 15 minutes as they seat you. I thought the lady had forgotten about us and was about to try over the road when she appeared and gave us a table. Food order was then taken and arrived quickly. It was terrible, myself and husband got regular fish and chips and my daughter got small. Mine resembled small, about 10 hard chips and a fish that looked like a battered sausage. It honestly looked like they had split a whole fish between myself and husband. 2 regular, 1 small, 3 cans of pop and a mushy peas cost me £58. If I'm paying that much for a meal of fish and chips I expect more than 10 chips and half a fish. I won't return.

Lots of fish chips restaurants to choose from in Whitby. We choose to go here as it did not seem to busy as there was 8 of us. The portions are small compared to other near by restaurants. I got a Regular size my partner a small and there was no difference. The fish although nice and fresh was dripping in veg oil. At £17 for fish, chips, peas and and tea but not a Yorkshire portion. Sorry for the review..

Called in at 6.30 and asked if they do take aways. The young Lady that I spoke to said not usually but I'll ask if they'll do it. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant so because it was quiet she said yes they do a take away. All I wanted was a normal fish and a carton of curry sauce. No chips nothing else just that. She said that will be £14.95.......... I said for a take out fish and a carton of curry. She just said yes. Even Dick Turpin wore a mask. Absolutely disgusting. If tour not doing take away food anymore then please put signs up. But to Tey and charge £14.95 is absolutely disgusting. Won't be calling ever again and certainly won't be recommending Hadleys to anyone anymore. It used to be really good. Now it's all about profits. Not that the management care about anything else anymore. Disgusting just ripping people off. !!!

My little 3kg toy poodle gets cold sitting on the floor, so I asked if he was allowed to sit on my knee as long as he didn’t touch the furniture and the lady said yes. The fish batter was light, think and crispy, the fish was lovely too. Best chip shop in Whitby for me. Hadleys used to be really good place to eat in whitby but lately very disappointed with the food. Ordered cod and chips and the cod was very narrow as if the fillet had been cut in half down the middle from top to tail then battered, it was more like a strip of cod, for the expensive price? Very disappointing and not worth the expensive price. Much better fish and chips from my local. Barely any taste to the vinegar at all so maybe watered down a bit too much. Menu no longer shows prices for their food, Hadleys have certainly changed and unfortunately not for the better. Unfortunately will not be returning in the future and wouldn't recommend anymore either.

We have been going to Harley’s for years. Always recommended to Whitby visitors to as best value, but not now. What they now call the medium size fish has become to resemble the size of a long battered sausage. Seems to be less than half the size it used to be. Visited Hadley's based on reviews. We were visiting Whitby Abbey for an evening event and had hoped for a later lunch / early dinner of fish and chips. We arrived around 4pm. Ordered a Haddock fish & chip combo that came with mushy peas, bread and butter and tea. Hadley's also do a cod choice in a similar way. There is a good range of food on the menus. The fish was delicious. Not at all fatty and the batter was light and tasty, the fish just fell away and was light and tasty. Chips were just as they should be, cooked to perfection and chunky ones too! Bread was fresh, tea was hot and mushy peas just perfect. Staff were friendly and chatty. It wasn't too busy when we ate 4-5pm on a weekday but I could imagine it does get busy at certain times. Clean and tidy, good value for money and we would certainly return again.

From the moment we walked by Hadley’s two weeks ago the aroma hit. So, when we revisited Whitby yesterday we’d already decided we would go for lunch. At the door met with a warm smile and greeting. Setting the mood for the entire meal as all of the staff were pleasant, helpful and chatty. Score 10 out of 10 for customer engagement and service. Moving on to the service and food our order was taken promptly questions answered with a smile and it was not long before our drinks were brought to us, lovely pot of yorkshire tea, and then our food. For a sit down dinner value for money was excellent at £18 especially considering the fantastic environment which was busy but not over full of covers. Both ordering the ‘Traditional Yorkshire tea meal deal’ Ange ordered the cod and I ordered the haddock. On the plate portion size was what I would expect. Overall look was fresh and importantly oil free as we have so sadly seen time and time again on out Thelma and Louise jaunt up and down the Yorkshire coast. Both the haddock and cod were fresh, not over cooked and the batter just the right with the coating light and crispy. Chips were also hot and fresh (would love to know the verity of the tats) fluffy and tasty when you bite in. The accompanying tartare sauce and mushy peas just lovely. As an ole yorkshire lass I can now say that this meal did not disappoint and would highly recommend as possibly the best fish and chips I’ve had. Well done Harley’s you’ve knocked it out of the park and we’ll look forward to coming back. Delightful 🤩💯

Highly enjoyable fish & chips! This was my first visit to Hadley's and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed. We partly chose this place as it's dog friendly and I was able to park our border terrier under the table. I opted for a regular cod, while my better half had a small one. Mine was a decent size, without being too big (at the end of the meal I was satisfied rather than completely stuffed). The quality of the fish was faultless and the batter was light and crispy. Overall, the meal was extremely tasty (the mushy peas were particularly good) and all washed down with a huge pot of tea. We couldn't fault the service either. We were seated and served quickly by friendly and helpful staff, even though they were very busy at the time. The restaurant itself provides a pleasant dining environment. I have no hesitation in recommending Hadley's and will gladly dine here again.

Popped in after a hike around Whitby with friends. There are plenty of fish shops such as the Magpie and Trenchers, but thought we'd try Hadleys.... what a bad mistake. Firstly, prices are on par with the other places, so expect top end. But when you pay top end, you expect top end taste right? I guess Hadleys didn't get the memo... The regular cod was mostly a tail end, 3/4 of which was the tail. The meaty end was a pureed mess, complete opposite of what a flaky cod should be like. The worst thing by far was the coating of the fish, it was up there with the worst, the oil it was cooked in must NOT have been changed, because it had a nasty burnt oil taste throughout. The only plus to this meal was the portion of chips, but even then there were some crappy bruised chips on the plate. The Tartare sauce portion was just embarassingly small, we had to ask for more. Service wise it was average, Seating wise, very uncomfortable and tables near toilets were a constant distraction. Overall, uncomfortable, quality of fish was well below par, it should not ever feature in any good fish and chips guide, trust me i've tried many whitby fish and chips places, and this one was not even close to the quality of others. They should be ashamed charging that much for fish and chips if they can't even be bothered to change the oil. We had that nasty oil taste on the roof of our mouths for several hours after eating at Hadleys, Never again

Fish and chips in Whitby is a must (even though I already live on the North East coast) and we've already tried several fish and chip places in the past. Hadley's is in the other side of the swing bridge and possibly gets overlooked by the majority of people who only get as far as the quayside. We've passed and commented on trying it in the past and today we did. I got fish and chips with mushy peas and my wife got unbattered fish with salad which looked good and she really enjoyed. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, staff were pleasant and service was quick. I would happily return again.

The best Fish & Chips in Whitby! ! ! ! ! I've tried many restaurants, but this one is the best. I've been going there for almost 20 years. The staff are always kind and the service is good ❤️

Lovely staff and restaurant, we ordered fish and chips but unfortunately these were not the nicest, we’ve had better in Whitby.

Very disappointed in the quality of our food today compared with our visit last year. The fish was smaller & the chips had obviously been kept warm for a while & tasteless.

Went in with friends and two dogs, had the haddock tea, and couldn't fault it. In fact, everyone did, no complaints.

Visited on a trip to Whitby with visiting family. We were attracted as it was dog friendly and baby friendly (not always as easy to find a place). The service and quality of the food was faultless, tela Ed atmosphere, place to store the pushchair away from the table and we thoroughly enjoyed our fish and chips and a great selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Would definitely return on future visits.

What a great coffee shop, quite spacious inside. Fantastic drinking chocolate. We decided to have lunch here and were not disappointed, very nice! Frothies is definitely worth a visit!

A typical English pub. We were warmly welcomed (as always). The food is good and the staff is friendly as always. The beer is also tasty. There is a covered and heated area in the yard for smokers. Dogs are very welcome. I can only recommend this pub. Unfortunately I won't be able to get there again until September.

Got stranded in castleton trying to get home to Danby during Storm Darragh. Called into the pub to get warm and work out what to do. Last minute decision was to stay the night because we didn't want to risk getting stuck in the floods. Room was perfect, clean and tidy! The 2 young lads behind the bar were so helpful and kind!! We could even laugh about being stuck 5 mins from home! They kindly charged our phones behind the bar and even lent us a member of staff's charger overnight. Next time we will have to try the food as its been a good few years since we last ate in there!
