I was born and live in Scarborough-the home of Boyes store.Nowhere beats Boyes for value and choice.Decided to visit the cafe(first time in years) approx 1 30 in the afternoon. One young woman at the counter serving and taking the money.I ordered a cheese and onion toastie and pot of tea for one.thought it would be quicker as the chip tureen was empty and knew I would have to wait for fresh to be cooked, otherwise I would have had their steak pie etc(which in the Brid dept is brilliant)The toastie took absolutely ages to come and when it did I was appalled! luke warm, and underdone,no crispiness, and must have used half of a whole red onion!bit of salad on the side.Scraped most of the onion out of the sandwich, and ate nearly half--left the rest! How can anyone get a toasted sarnie wrong?Waste of money and left with revolting taste /onion breath rest of day.will never go again!Oh and the brilliant toilets were ruined by the one and only drier being out of order!(no paper towels supplied)

We visited this cafe inside the Boyes store late in the afternoon of a very cold, snowy day. Even though the staff had started to clear away for the day, they went out of their way to find us some delicious scones and made us a lovely, warming pot of tea and hot chocolate. The scones were delicious. The lady who served us was really friendly and made us feel very welcome. A really nice place with lovely staff, when I'm next in Scarborough I will visit earlier to try some of the hot meals on offer there.

After some 'retail therapy' in the store, we called upstairs for a light lunch, the cafe was fairly busy. We both chose a cheese + onion toasty, these came with a salad trim, and were packed with plenty of cheese and red onion. My pot of tea yielded 2 cups, hubby had a coke with his lunch.

As an ex resident of Scarborough I know this to be an old fashioned store where you can get many bargains in any department. The cafe on the top floor, with an ornate wooden fireplace, does home style meals and the best scones. It has a good haberdashery department with materials, buttons, cottons and knitting wools. The household department has a good selection of pots, pans and other kitchen wares.

OMG! I’ve lived in Scarborough now for a few years and have been in Boyes so many times and never once thought to visit the cafe until today. I will definitely be back. I ordered sausage chips peas and gravy and a pot of tea all for around £5. The gravy is advertised as being real beef gravy but nine times out of ten in places that state that it’s bisto out of a tub. This gravy actually had small pieces of beef in it and was gorgeous. Two massive succulent sausages and ample homemade chips with garden peas was delicious. They have a small but varied menu and I will be back probably in the next week to try their homemade steak pie. Well worth a visit. Oh and a mention to Janet/Janice? The staff member who was so friendly and helpful considering I was in my own. 10/10!

I'm a great fan of Boyes, especially its haberdashery. However, I was surprised that the Scarborough branch had a cafe, and Boyes being, shall we say, better known for its value and range of sensible stock than for its elegance, went there expecting it to be rather basic. On the contrary it was quite elegant with interesting material on Boyes history. The coffee was great, as was the price, and there were newspapers to read. It looked as though it would be good for a traditional lunch, too. The only disappointment was that you had to stand up to see the beautiful view of the sea.

This quirky, popular little cafe on the top floor of the small, family-owned department store is a quaint throwback to the 1950s, with home-made cakes, scones and pies (meat pies at lunch time - and fruit pies with custard!) It sometimes even has suet puddings, such as treacle pudding with custard, on offer, as well as lovely home-made quiches, served warm, as well as excellent home-baked ham served in sandwiches or salads. It is a self-service cafe reminiscent of 1950s seaside resorts, staffed by lovely, chatty local ladies who can't do enough for you! What more do you want?
