once again Mr Chips delivers, delicious fish and chips, great service, great prices, lots of choice; this is the one we always go to and it never lets us down

The food was nice and there was a good choice, although not everyone wants tea or coffee with their fish and chips - it feels like you’re paying for something that you don’t want, and then have to pay again for the drink you do want. It’s great that it’s dog friendly, it was clean and service was good. The food was nice but the portions were a bit meagre. Not a disaster by any means, but also wouldn’t rush back there.

Was very pleased to see we could dine with our dog , excellent food and lovely staff . Definitely on our to go to place now , plenty of room and good choices of meals .

Amazing seafood chowder with lovely warm crusty bread and really good fish, chips and mushy peas. Pleasant, friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommend!

Very clued up on a coeliac’s need for a strictly GF diet. We stumbled upon Mr Chips by chance when our previous plans fell through. As soon as we walked through the door, we spotted a container labelled ‘gluten free utensils’ on top of the fryer in the kitchen. This was a good sign that they understood the need to avoid cross contamination. There was an extensive choice of gluten free options on the menu. We chose scampi & chips and jumbo sausage & chips - both were delicious. Lovely crisply coating on the scampi. We were offered GF vinegar, without asking too. Very glad we found Mr Chips.

Lovely restaurant. Clean, nice atmosphere, great service. I chose the new ‘festive parmo’ as a change from fish ‘n’ chips. Well presented, tasted delicious but sadly it was not piping hot - fairly hot when served but quickly got cold as I ate it - and I’m not a slow eater. The bottled beer was warm so not refreshing. Two small details which made a big difference - and the following day, I had a queasy stomach which thankfully was short-lived. Food really should be served piping hot, especially chicken.

Teníamos una comida para 9 personas. La señora era muy eficiente y el servicio fue muy rápido. Toda la comida estaba caliente y delicioso. Muy recomendable!

We have been going here for years but I will be finding another one as the fish and chips were really greasy and running in fat the chips were hard and tasteless I am sure they were preheated, the fish would have been nice if it had been cooked a bit longer and not in the batter that was soggy inside.

Almost every year for the last 30 years I have taken groups of children, teachers and friends to Whitby. I’ve had upto 60 children at a time, plus staff caterpillaring through Mister Chilps takeaway before sitting en-mass at the top of the steps for our lunch. Today was my final visit after retirement and emigrating. As a whitby regular I have been to every one of the chip shops in whitby centre and can categorically say that there are no BAD chippies in town; some are very good (Magpie is good but not even in top 3). Yet, Mister Chips has had, for 30 years, the best chips, the best cod and haddock (chunky, flavoursome and melts in your mouth with crispy, flaky batter that stays on the fish!) and sauces as good as any. Cross the bridge folks - you won’t regret it! Mister Chips is not only the best in Whitby, it is the best in the world.

This was a return visit as last time it was excellent with piping hot food. This time we had pan fried fish, which was over cooked and the accompanying chips were tepid, the waitress apologised and gave us a dish of chips which were “straight from the fryer”, these were also not piping hot. Disappointing and we will look elsewhere next time we are in Whitby. They knocked the price of a beer off the bill as compensation!

Had takeaway fish and chips. Suggest moving away from the front to eat due to the seagulls. Food well cooked and lovely and hot.

Visited for family lunch, fantastic restaurant serving brilliant fish and seafood. We tried many eating places during our week in Whitby but Mr Chips took the crown, amazing food at very reasonable prices with great service. Cod and Chips (adult and kids portions) perfectly cooked. Thai infused Crab salad with trio of coleslaw was outstanding.

We had been recommended this place, but we were so incredibly disappointed and shocked with how we were treated. After having to seat ourselves after waiting, we were ignored for sometime, not a word was spoken to us from staff. Some menus were shoved on the end of our table and staff quickly disappeared. After some time of waiting it was clear the staff were not going to take our order. We had to leave with some disappointed, hungry and upset children. Would NOT recommend.

Second time eating here and the GF fish and chips were even better. My large white cod was more like a small whale and the crunchy batter was heavenly. Chips cooked to perfection and wonderful, friendly service as well. If you're gluten free, you must eat here!

Nearly £40 for medium fish and chips with mushy peas 2 cans of coke chips were just warmed up fish had rock hard batter with no taste to the fish very disappointed me and the wife have been going to whitby for over 40 years but definitely will not try mr chippy again

Unpretentious but serving super food. I was told the food was good and the staff friendly, I was not disappointed. Some really interesting dishes on the "specials" menu (I tried a parmo for the first time) beautifully cooked and presented. They have a license so able to have a cheeky cider with it. Clean and comfortable seating areas and great waiting staff.

Very disappointed. Fish was all batter, which was very hard and overcooked. Left most of the meal. Brought my dissatisfaction to the attention of staff. Apologised and said they would inform the chef. No discount offered, paid full amount. Poor food, even poorer customer service. Won't be returning.

Excellent cod & chips served in very clean and comfortable restaurant. Friendly & efficient staff. Prices on par with most other fish & chip venues in Whitby. Would deffo visit again and recommend to anyone. 10/10.

Sara's is the restaurant of Mr Chips, it is niceley decorated and the staff are pleasant and VERY hard working. Although I do like fish and chips what appeal to me about Sarah's is the variety of other seafood dishes they prepare. My wife and I both had the 'trio of seafood' on our first visit (code fillet with huge scallops and prawns on a bed of vegetables including samphire) it was excellent. On our second visit the following day Pegy again had the trio and I plumped for the bouillabaisse. All washed down with an excllent and reasonable bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon. The bouillabaisse was nothing short of BRILLIANT!

Fabulous fish restaurant, menu great, prices great, staff great. Ordered our meals and was very impressed with the presentation, portions and taste. Would recommend a hundred times over.

This is a gem!! By far the best meal we’ve had in either York or Whitby. The attention to detail was superb, presentation and service were perfect but the taste outweighs both!!. Go for the specials, sea bass in particular, and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for. So reasonable as well. If you visit Whitby this restaurant is a must, otherwise you’ve missed out!!

I recently came to Whitby for the weekend with my wife and 2 kids asked a few locals where would you recommend for somewhere to go for fish n chips and each one of them said misterchips,and wow it was out of the world me and the wife had 2 medium cod and chips and kids got fish pieces the chips were golden brown perfectly cooked the fish was awesome the big white flakes of fish were something else and the batter nice and crispy not greasy at all, would definitely recommend it again

Having been recommended by friends we decided to book in for Saturday afternoon, my self my partner and our two children. We were booked for 1330 but arrived 20 minutes early and the place looked to be very busy so we thought we’d have to have a wander up the cobbles till our actual booking time. This wasn’t the case, the wonderful Chloe, (please forgive me if I’m wrong) managed to have a little shuffle round tables and got us sat down straight away, explained the specials board and handed us menus. We ordered drinks but needed a little more time to peruse the menus, as with the specials board they really have an outstanding selection of what sound like delicious meals to offer. I ended up opting for the fisherman’s casserole, my partner had a large haddock chips and peas, and the kids both had chicken nuggets chips and beans (imagine my shock). The fisherman’s casserole was absolutely incredible, beautiful rich white sauce with chunks of white fish, prawns and salmon with a velvet mash and cheese topped lid with freshly steamed vegetables. My partner said his haddock was one of the best fish he’d eaten, and he eats a lot of fish and chips believe me. The kids also gave a nod of approval as they managed to peel themselves away from their phones for 2 seconds. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food you receive. Unfortunately we were driving later on that day and couldn’t enjoy a bottle of wine for the great looking selection they had. All in all we absolutely loved it and next time we’re back in Whitby, (hopefully this summer) we will Definitely be back to your wonderful restaurant.

If you have tried the restaurant and loved it I will have you know the take away is even better! Stunning, happy, kind, caring girls behind the counter made our experience even better. They now have seats in the take away so you don’t have to worry about unpredictable whitby weather. Amazing tunes played through an awesome Sonos speaker! I felt like I was in the 90s again at a rave! Such a fun experience.. the dancing and singing staff are almost better than the food!

Came across mister chips as I was recommended, as well as following their social media with the guy who says ‘yes people’ they clearly put their heart and soul into this family restaurant! We arrived to be greeted by a young girl who was so kind and caring and was extremely happy in her work which is always nice to see, we were seated and our order was taken straight away so of course fast service and the food came within not short of 10 minutes I had ordered the bullaboise and my husband a large cod. These portions were so generous for what you pay it’s incredible! The music was also a hit classic 80s you can’t beat them. Overall my time at this restaurant was exquisite the staff the food I say ‘YES people’ to this being the best chippy in Whitby!
