Crown Tavern in Scarborough

Outstanding service and the food is excellent.

Just been here with my mum for the Christmas meal. We chose the 2 course meal starter and main. There is the option to have three course. It was easy to book online and pay a £10 deposit. On arrival we arrived to the table set out with Christmas crackers and few chocolate treats. I chose the soup option and mum had the prawn cocktail. Both were delicious and did not disappoint. We chose the traditional turkey dinner but there were other options. The turkey was lovely came with fresh carrots parsnips, broccoli,red cabbage, beautiful roast potatoes, cranberry sauce and stuffing . There was plenty and it was extremely tasty. Definitely worth a visit. All staff are so welcoming in there and the pub itself is cosy and inviting. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning.

Absolutely fantastic food, good atmosphere and even better staff!! Had a Christmas dinner and it was brilliant, very well cooked and served and had a brilliant presentation.

20 of us had a wonderful christmas dinner at Crown Tavern. The food is very tasty and of good quality. At £20 for 3 course represents a good value for money. Drinks are reasonable and beer was on top form. Thank you Darren and Victoria for an enjoyable evening. The quiz master Sean is also very entertaining. We will definitely come back.

My son and I wanted lunch and didn't know where to go so decided to give the Crown a try The best decision we made by far the service was excellent made right at home as soon as we stepped through the door and the food was excellent could not fault it at all highly recommend it so give it a try and you will not be disappointed also we will be most definitely going back

Called in Sunday on the off chance they were still serving lunch and I'm so pleased I did, ordered 2 adults roast beef, 1 childs roast beef and an extra large beef,turkey with extra trimmings..absolutely superb from the staff to the service and the food A1..highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again when doing the filey to teesside jaunt

What a Fantastic place the Crown Tavern has become, Darren and Victoria are doing a great job. Called in for food on Thursday and Mel recommended the steak and it was cooked to perfection (highly recommend), stayed for a pint of Old Empire or two and ended up staying for the Quiz, the Quiz master was hilarious! Such a friendly, welcoming place, will be back again soon!

This pub is amazing, it's an all rounder. The food is amazing, the drinks are fairly priced. They have a pool table that is 2 games for £1, yes you read that right 2 for £1. The staff are fab, you have to get yourself down there if you're ever in Scarborough. Highly recommend this pub.

My fiancé and myself come here for their beers and loaded fries and my goodness we cannot recommend this place enough!! The staff are always so kind and attentive, and the food and drink are consistently exceptional. Get their loaded fries you won’t be sorry!

Second time we have visited recently, returning on steak night. This time three of us had gammon which was lovely, very tasty. And I had the tikka masala which was served with a poppadom and nan bread. Will definitely be back maybe on Wednesday for curry night next! It was also quiz night we do not usually join in quizzes 🫣it which was challenging and entertaining.

Lovely little pub, we were wonky down for the day from Northumberland. But me Nd my m8s got burger & chips Nd a pint. Lass behind the counter was sound Nd the burgers were lush. We've all agreed to holiday in Scarborough asap

The events manger brought us here from the Boro 😂 my uncle Eddie Hunter . But I have to say the burger is right up there with all the others. I used to be a chef for 15 years and I'm quite picky with burgers. The brioche bun was awesome and it held the juicy burger patty in place no dramas what so ever absolutely delicious the meat pasty was a good mix of beef and fat and so tasteful I've always said fat hippos burgers are the best. B ut these burgers are on the same level cheers Mike the chef I know it's a tough crack in the kitchen in the summer but that was perfect get the lads a pint please! 👌

Did an impromptu stop at the Crown Tavern to grab a quick Sunday roast, pub was very quite as it was in between lunch and dinner times. Ordered a chicken Sunday roast and the wife ordered chicken wings. All arrived in no time at all, piping hot and all very tasty. Friendly staff and we would definitely eat there again if we are in Scarborough.

Recently changed management and everything looks like it's on the up, food really good lasagne deserves special mention, drinks reasonable and good outdoor area.

Lovely visit with my husband the food was fantastic and the staff were lush. Going again this Sunday as we were told they are starting sunday carvery. See you soon

We didn't eat so I've not included that rating in my assessment. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed with excellent friendly and efficient service behind the bar by the staff. It's a Marston's pub and had a good range of drink options to choose from. We attended on a Thursday evening when there was a quiz being held, and while it was a tough quiz for just the two of us, it was very enjoyable and presented with great energy and good humour by the chap conducting the quiz which was infectious for not only ourselves, occasionalpatrons, but also more regularpatrons we spoke with too. When we were ready to depart after a really pleasant evening, the girls behind the bar were extremely helpful in assisting in us getting a taxi organised and looking after our slightly wobbly (an enjoyable night, then, I hear you thinking, and you'd be right!) departure and safe homeward journey, for which we're both very thankfully appreciative. I look forward to the opportunity of being able to visit again soon.

Visited this pub as I am not a local here and the food I had was unbelievable. I had a Donner kebab and my partner had Mac and cheese and we're both so tasty and the service was great. Also got to speak to new owners who were lovely and couldn't be more accommodating. Lovely outside area for those who have children. Bar maid Aiesha was also super friendly. Will be returning!

Went today for parents Ruby wedding. Waited a little longer than usual but service was excellent. Staff were having some issues in the kitchen but came and apologised for the wait and chef came out afterwards and was very apologetic about the wait. Well worth a visit and the food is basic but very nice.

The food was good but the place needs a good clean and redecoration. Not a nice place to go like it used to be

Haven't been there for a couple of years.It was very dirty unkempt and needs a thorough clean and paint.One table was half heartedly wiped and the man didn't even put the chairs back tidy.Won't be rushing back!!!!!

Food ok but the knives and forks were dirty plus the tables were dirty salt or sugar had been split and it was sticky we tried 3 tables before we sat down we went about 5.30pm and it was not busy the whiole place could do with a good clean

Visited the crown tavern over christmas. What can i say but great atmosphere and lovely staff. Will definitely be back.

No room inside so we sat outside, there was sick all over the floor and one of the tables which multiple members of staff saw as they were coming and going but nobody took it upon themselves to clean it up. We would have stayed longer but made a sharp exit.

Such a pleasure to visit, Food was amazing, cooked to perfection, nothing too much for the staff, good facilities, great location, good prices, what more can I say.......Will certainly be back. Take no notice of previous reviews, they cusnt be further from the truth.

Omg party of 7 of us was late on and decided to call at the crown tavern as people saying how good there food ids is since end of Jan 23 so we decided to give it a go 2 bad review lately but nope do not believe what you read.. Call in Thursday night 3 gammons 3 steaks and cod and chips. Service was good and food came out pipping hot. Presentation excellent. All steaks were ask to be all cooked different rare medium rare medium all 3 came out spot on melted in your mouth trimming onion rings mushrooms grilled tomato chips and peas can't go wrong cod was massive tasted so fresh batter was to die for. Excellent job plus the lady chef actual came to ask us if everything was okay what a star very polite and enthusiastic obviously takes pride in what she does. Will be returning excited to do so.

If I could give a zero rating f I would. Took my daughter to lunch noone in the bar all the staff say at a table talking I stood at the bar waiting, when noone came I asked if they were open which they replied yeah, once they served me I stood waiting a while for the to open the till and do the things that should been done on opening. Food arrived and my daughter said it tasted funny and I have to admit it tasted off! What looked to be the cook came out from the kitchen looking like her cloths and self needed washin not a good look! We won't be back what's happned used to be a lovely pub now staff seem to not care one jot about what they're doing.

Quiet, not very clean and something as simple as lime cordial wasn't available. I used to be a regular visitor as it is my local but cost and cleanliness has gone down hill.

Food is always lovely, nice pub grub served by friendly staff, and a really nice atmosphere. A special shout out for the impromptu halloween disco complete with disco lights and spooky party tunes… You absolutely saved the day when the event we planned to attend was cancelled at short notice. Showed up with two soggy kiddos just to thaw out and have a bottle of pop and packet of crisps (vital resources for calming a 7year old Incredible Hulk “hulk smash” tantrum) and the landlord leapt into action - you guys saved Halloween!

Popped in for a bite to eat and wasn't disappointed. Excellent food and great portions. I had the cowboy burger and my wife had the hunters chicken. Both enjoyed very much.

Absolutely appalling customer service. We had booked a table for 6:30 for a group of 6,upon arrival we got an abrupt greeting, continued to mention we had book a table for 6, the man just looked surprised and said oh let's just make sure we have space. Didn't even check our booking. Showed us to a seating area right next to the kitchen door, sauces, cutlery and napkins all spread over the table next to us with paperwork all next to it. We proceeded to sit down and the table was sticky/dirty from drinks previously. We asked for the table to be wiped and the young girl came with a peice of paper hand towels and some spray. She literally gave it a 2 second wipe and believed for this to be sufficient. There was a fork left on the arm rest of the seating area. In the end I went to the car and grabbed a packet of baby wipes. We proceed to wipe the tables and the baby wipes which we used were black with filth. We recieved cutlery which was dirty inside a metal basket with sauces that had exploded. Despite wiping our tables with baby wips the tables were still sticky and you could see people's finger print marks within the table. There were people shouting and vaping within the premises. We had no customer service when the food arrived just put on the table, not asked if the food was all ok. One mega mixed grill the chicken was barley warm, on the vegetarian option the salad within the bun wad slimes. The steaks on the mega mixed grills which were ordered was cooked incorrectly one barley cooked the other was over cooked. The toilet facilities were absolutely appalling urine all over the floor in the men's toilets not to mention the uncleanness of the sinks. We didn't even get a goodbye or a thank you. Honestly, the worst establishment I have ever attended.

My party (10 people inc. 2 kids), admittedly, was booked on short notice. We were put on a table which wasn't big enough for 10 people. I went to the bar with my son to order drinks for 8 of us. The bar person seemed annoyed with our order, more so because as we ordered, more people from our party came and gave their orders. She kept saying "Is that it?" in an annoyed fashion. We did get to our last drink order, and she said "Really, is that it?", like our custom was a disservice to her. The other customers in the establishment, which I can only assume were regulars, were rather boisterous, which I have no problem with usually. However, a female in the pub approached our table in an aggresive manner and accused a member of our party of staring at her and asked him "What are you looking at?". He wasn't looking at this person, or thier group. It was unwarranted. After that, the same person and her family threw a toy above our heads and it hit the wall behind us. We assumed that this might have been an accident as they were with their child, and returned the toy. Shortly after the toy was thrown again, in the same direction, with more force. This upset a member of our party who has recently received surgery and was in pain still. She was concerned that she might end up getting hurt where she received surgery. The food came out quick, which was explained by the fact that the chips were undercooked. Not just for myself, but most of the group. The two steaks that were ordered were both over cooked, which I understand is hit and miss from restaurant to restaurant, so I don't usually mention it. What didn't seem right though was I ordered an 8oz surf and turf, and my wife ordered an 8oz rump. My steak was clearly 1/3 smaller than my wife's (i understand how raw vs cooked steak weight and size works, there was a clear difference). It was a completely uncomfortable experience, and none of the party will be returning again. We left as soon as we had finished the food. I've never really had a bad experience at a Marstons pub before, but this will make me think twice going forward.

I went with a group of people to celebrate a birthday. We booked the table for 7PM and where told that the last food order was 7.45. Its obviously a local pub, but the customers were quite rude to us, even trying to upset one of our party. Things were being thrown about by the other customers and actually hit one of the party. We had already ordered so sat and waited for our food. Most of us were disappointed with food, either cooked to much or chips not cooked enough. As soon as we finished we left. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone

On our holiday and visited last minute. A group of 10 of us. We were glad they could fit us in. The food was mediocre but arrived at our table quickly. The menus and table were extremely sticky. We were hoping for a quiet family meal, but quite a few of the clientele were extremely loud and rude. We had things thrown at our table. One of our party is recovering from an arm operation and was extremely worried about getting hurt. Another was approached aggressively by a woman for no reason. Obviously this was not the restaurants fault but if you are after a nice and quiet meal I would not recommend this place.

My husband and I visited here for the first time Thursday evening. I asked the young blonde barmaid if I should choose a table then return to the bar to order. She was talking to a dodgy looking character at the bar. She tutted at me and said YES. It took a while to find a clean table. I then ordered the food which appeared to put the barmaids back up. Very rude and snappy, when the food came I asked please could we have salt and pepper and the male waiter grunted something under his breath. He slammed down the cutlery and flounced off. I then realised he had only given me knife. So I went up to the bar and asked please can I have a fork the rude blonde totally ignored me even though she was stood directly in front of me. So I asked another lady that appeared behind the bar which I think she was her boss. The blonde then got me a fork and slammed it on the filthy bar. The food was rubbish white chips and a steak that was rock hard and dry as a bone. Don’t waste your money it may appear cheap but £30 for a meal for 2 that was inedible is not cheap. You get what you pay for and that includes the staff!!! 😡

We are a family Group of 13. A tall order for any restaurant to cater for and the Crown Tavern delivered. A number of us selected the Wednesday night drink & curry deal but those that picked fish & chips, lasagne & burgers were equally as delighted. Great value for money, quick service and a big thumbs up from all the family. Well done the Crown Tavern Team 👍

Very clean, staff really friendly and food delicious

We pre-booked for Sunday lunch on the Friday before. We had looked at the Sunday lunch menu and all decided what we would like before going. Table was booked between 1pm and 3pm. When we arrived a board was just being put up apologising that there were no Sunday lunch or grills available. We all chose burgers, which were all really tasty but not what we wanted and had we known prior to this would have probably gone elsewhere or cancelled. The food took around 50 mins to arrive too. The kids then wanted desserts (two Rocky Roads and one Chocolate Brownies) and upon ordering they didn't have either available. The food we did have was honestly very tasty. The staff were friendly and apologetic but I don't think we will return soon

Personally I'm always a little wary about going to new places but from the moment we walked in the lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly. Made our visit comfortable and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend and go back there.

Food was average. Table was dirty and needed cleaning. Staff were sat around using their mobile phones. It wasn't busy but they could have occupied themselves cleaning the tables.

We stopped here for food after a day out in whitby the staff were friendly and welcoming but that is the only good bit, the table was sticky with not sure what but the plates stuck to it!! and the food was mediocre we both had steak which was cooked to our liking but it was chewy, the peas were under cooked slightly and the mushrooms were diabolical they were chewy but crispy at the same time the chips were ok for frozen chips and the onion rings were not the best we didn't complain at the time though i wish we had of done, we ate what we could drank our drink and walked out vowing never again sorry

Chose food from the lunch club menu, wasn't asked which menu I wanted to order from and charged extra from the main menu! Staff not friendly. When I asked the girl about it, she said I should have mentioned which menu I wanted. The lunch club runs 12 til 4. We were there approx 13.30. I thought it would be obvious, obviously not. (We hadn't been before and decided to give it a try.) After ordering, I sat down and realised I'd been overcharged. I went to the bar and was told I should have specified which menu. My husband asked for a manager. I explained again and she then (hopefully) refunded my card, re did the meal and I paid the correct price. The food was OK. We both left most of our main course. I'm sorry but I won't be returning. Staff need training in customer service.

The food is actually quite good just a shame they never have the sauces that you pay for in there been a few times now they take payment and then 5-10 mins later come over and say they don't have that sauce in stock why not confirm with the kitchen staff before proceeding to take your payment other than that everything else was fine.
