The food was good but the place needs a good clean and redecoration. Not a nice place to go like it used to be

Haven't been there for a couple of years.It was very dirty unkempt and needs a thorough clean and paint.One table was half heartedly wiped and the man didn't even put the chairs back tidy.Won't be rushing back!!!!!

Food ok but the knives and forks were dirty plus the tables were dirty salt or sugar had been split and it was sticky we tried 3 tables before we sat down we went about 5.30pm and it was not busy the whiole place could do with a good clean

Visited the crown tavern over christmas. What can i say but great atmosphere and lovely staff. Will definitely be back.

No room inside so we sat outside, there was sick all over the floor and one of the tables which multiple members of staff saw as they were coming and going but nobody took it upon themselves to clean it up. We would have stayed longer but made a sharp exit.

Such a pleasure to visit, Food was amazing, cooked to perfection, nothing too much for the staff, good facilities, great location, good prices, what more can I say.......Will certainly be back. Take no notice of previous reviews, they cusnt be further from the truth.

Omg party of 7 of us was late on and decided to call at the crown tavern as people saying how good there food ids is since end of Jan 23 so we decided to give it a go 2 bad review lately but nope do not believe what you read.. Call in Thursday night 3 gammons 3 steaks and cod and chips. Service was good and food came out pipping hot. Presentation excellent. All steaks were ask to be all cooked different rare medium rare medium all 3 came out spot on melted in your mouth trimming onion rings mushrooms grilled tomato chips and peas can't go wrong cod was massive tasted so fresh batter was to die for. Excellent job plus the lady chef actual came to ask us if everything was okay what a star very polite and enthusiastic obviously takes pride in what she does. Will be returning excited to do so.

If I could give a zero rating f I would. Took my daughter to lunch noone in the bar all the staff say at a table talking I stood at the bar waiting, when noone came I asked if they were open which they replied yeah, once they served me I stood waiting a while for the to open the till and do the things that should been done on opening. Food arrived and my daughter said it tasted funny and I have to admit it tasted off! What looked to be the cook came out from the kitchen looking like her cloths and self needed washin not a good look! We won't be back what's happned used to be a lovely pub now staff seem to not care one jot about what they're doing.

Quiet, not very clean and something as simple as lime cordial wasn't available. I used to be a regular visitor as it is my local but cost and cleanliness has gone down hill.

Food is always lovely, nice pub grub served by friendly staff, and a really nice atmosphere. A special shout out for the impromptu halloween disco complete with disco lights and spooky party tunes… You absolutely saved the day when the event we planned to attend was cancelled at short notice. Showed up with two soggy kiddos just to thaw out and have a bottle of pop and packet of crisps (vital resources for calming a 7year old Incredible Hulk “hulk smash” tantrum) and the landlord leapt into action - you guys saved Halloween!

Popped in for a bite to eat and wasn't disappointed. Excellent food and great portions. I had the cowboy burger and my wife had the hunters chicken. Both enjoyed very much.

Absolutely appalling customer service. We had booked a table for 6:30 for a group of 6,upon arrival we got an abrupt greeting, continued to mention we had book a table for 6, the man just looked surprised and said oh let's just make sure we have space. Didn't even check our booking. Showed us to a seating area right next to the kitchen door, sauces, cutlery and napkins all spread over the table next to us with paperwork all next to it. We proceeded to sit down and the table was sticky/dirty from drinks previously. We asked for the table to be wiped and the young girl came with a peice of paper hand towels and some spray. She literally gave it a 2 second wipe and believed for this to be sufficient. There was a fork left on the arm rest of the seating area. In the end I went to the car and grabbed a packet of baby wipes. We proceed to wipe the tables and the baby wipes which we used were black with filth. We recieved cutlery which was dirty inside a metal basket with sauces that had exploded. Despite wiping our tables with baby wips the tables were still sticky and you could see people's finger print marks within the table. There were people shouting and vaping within the premises. We had no customer service when the food arrived just put on the table, not asked if the food was all ok. One mega mixed grill the chicken was barley warm, on the vegetarian option the salad within the bun wad slimes. The steaks on the mega mixed grills which were ordered was cooked incorrectly one barley cooked the other was over cooked. The toilet facilities were absolutely appalling urine all over the floor in the men's toilets not to mention the uncleanness of the sinks. We didn't even get a goodbye or a thank you. Honestly, the worst establishment I have ever attended.

I went with a group of people to celebrate a birthday. We booked the table for 7PM and where told that the last food order was 7.45. Its obviously a local pub, but the customers were quite rude to us, even trying to upset one of our party. Things were being thrown about by the other customers and actually hit one of the party. We had already ordered so sat and waited for our food. Most of us were disappointed with food, either cooked to much or chips not cooked enough. As soon as we finished we left. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone

My party (10 people inc. 2 kids), admittedly, was booked on short notice. We were put on a table which wasn't big enough for 10 people. I went to the bar with my son to order drinks for 8 of us. The bar person seemed annoyed with our order, more so because as we ordered, more people from our party came and gave their orders. She kept saying "Is that it?" in an annoyed fashion. We did get to our last drink order, and she said "Really, is that it?", like our custom was a disservice to her. The other customers in the establishment, which I can only assume were regulars, were rather boisterous, which I have no problem with usually. However, a female in the pub approached our table in an aggresive manner and accused a member of our party of staring at her and asked him "What are you looking at?". He wasn't looking at this person, or thier group. It was unwarranted. After that, the same person and her family threw a toy above our heads and it hit the wall behind us. We assumed that this might have been an accident as they were with their child, and returned the toy. Shortly after the toy was thrown again, in the same direction, with more force. This upset a member of our party who has recently received surgery and was in pain still. She was concerned that she might end up getting hurt where she received surgery. The food came out quick, which was explained by the fact that the chips were undercooked. Not just for myself, but most of the group. The two steaks that were ordered were both over cooked, which I understand is hit and miss from restaurant to restaurant, so I don't usually mention it. What didn't seem right though was I ordered an 8oz surf and turf, and my wife ordered an 8oz rump. My steak was clearly 1/3 smaller than my wife's (i understand how raw vs cooked steak weight and size works, there was a clear difference). It was a completely uncomfortable experience, and none of the party will be returning again. We left as soon as we had finished the food. I've never really had a bad experience at a Marstons pub before, but this will make me think twice going forward.

On our holiday and visited last minute. A group of 10 of us. We were glad they could fit us in. The food was mediocre but arrived at our table quickly. The menus and table were extremely sticky. We were hoping for a quiet family meal, but quite a few of the clientele were extremely loud and rude. We had things thrown at our table. One of our party is recovering from an arm operation and was extremely worried about getting hurt. Another was approached aggressively by a woman for no reason. Obviously this was not the restaurants fault but if you are after a nice and quiet meal I would not recommend this place.

My husband and I visited here for the first time Thursday evening. I asked the young blonde barmaid if I should choose a table then return to the bar to order. She was talking to a dodgy looking character at the bar. She tutted at me and said YES. It took a while to find a clean table. I then ordered the food which appeared to put the barmaids back up. Very rude and snappy, when the food came I asked please could we have salt and pepper and the male waiter grunted something under his breath. He slammed down the cutlery and flounced off. I then realised he had only given me knife. So I went up to the bar and asked please can I have a fork the rude blonde totally ignored me even though she was stood directly in front of me. So I asked another lady that appeared behind the bar which I think she was her boss. The blonde then got me a fork and slammed it on the filthy bar. The food was rubbish white chips and a steak that was rock hard and dry as a bone. Don’t waste your money it may appear cheap but £30 for a meal for 2 that was inedible is not cheap. You get what you pay for and that includes the staff!!! 😡

We are a family Group of 13. A tall order for any restaurant to cater for and the Crown Tavern delivered. A number of us selected the Wednesday night drink & curry deal but those that picked fish & chips, lasagne & burgers were equally as delighted. Great value for money, quick service and a big thumbs up from all the family. Well done the Crown Tavern Team 👍

We pre-booked for Sunday lunch on the Friday before. We had looked at the Sunday lunch menu and all decided what we would like before going. Table was booked between 1pm and 3pm. When we arrived a board was just being put up apologising that there were no Sunday lunch or grills available. We all chose burgers, which were all really tasty but not what we wanted and had we known prior to this would have probably gone elsewhere or cancelled. The food took around 50 mins to arrive too. The kids then wanted desserts (two Rocky Roads and one Chocolate Brownies) and upon ordering they didn't have either available. The food we did have was honestly very tasty. The staff were friendly and apologetic but I don't think we will return soon

Personally I'm always a little wary about going to new places but from the moment we walked in the lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly. Made our visit comfortable and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend and go back there.

Food was average. Table was dirty and needed cleaning. Staff were sat around using their mobile phones. It wasn't busy but they could have occupied themselves cleaning the tables.

It was an absolute first class meal, steak cooked to perfection, well cooked accompaniments and a yummy chocolate mint dome to finish. The steak melted in the mouth and everything was very tasty and well prepared. We will definitely visit again in future. Compliments to the chef and the friendly bar and wait staff, great atmosphere, lovely food.

We stopped here for food after a day out in whitby the staff were friendly and welcoming but that is the only good bit, the table was sticky with not sure what but the plates stuck to it!! and the food was mediocre we both had steak which was cooked to our liking but it was chewy, the peas were under cooked slightly and the mushrooms were diabolical they were chewy but crispy at the same time the chips were ok for frozen chips and the onion rings were not the best we didn't complain at the time though i wish we had of done, we ate what we could drank our drink and walked out vowing never again sorry

Chose food from the lunch club menu, wasn't asked which menu I wanted to order from and charged extra from the main menu! Staff not friendly. When I asked the girl about it, she said I should have mentioned which menu I wanted. The lunch club runs 12 til 4. We were there approx 13.30. I thought it would be obvious, obviously not. (We hadn't been before and decided to give it a try.) After ordering, I sat down and realised I'd been overcharged. I went to the bar and was told I should have specified which menu. My husband asked for a manager. I explained again and she then (hopefully) refunded my card, re did the meal and I paid the correct price. The food was OK. We both left most of our main course. I'm sorry but I won't be returning. Staff need training in customer service.

The food is actually quite good just a shame they never have the sauces that you pay for in there been a few times now they take payment and then 5-10 mins later come over and say they don't have that sauce in stock why not confirm with the kitchen staff before proceeding to take your payment other than that everything else was fine.

We called last minute for food whilst on holiday. There was a wait on food and we were starving, so maybe a little grumpy,(sorry,😂), but it was worth it! A party of 5 we ordered steak(the best my hubby had ever had and he eats out 4 times a week with work), lasagne, 2xburgers and a lamb shank. All of us were impressed with the quality and amount of food we received. Fantastic value for money. If we're ever in that area again we will deffo be back!

Entertainment value of the "hunt the filling game" was the best part! Drinks: Ordered a pint of Guinness and a glass of water. The water was good, but the Guinness tasted off and lost its head. I drew this to the attention of a member of bar staff who served a replacement pint. This was only marginally better, and more than half was left in the glass when we left. Cleanliness: On opening the first menu card bits of food were stuck to the pages and some dropped out. The condiments were grubby. Is it beyond the abilities of the staff to give the salt and pepper pots a wipe to remove the debris stuck to them? It could be that they are too busy vaping in the pub! Yes, at least one was seen. Toilets: Why no lock on the cubicle door in the gents? Overall, a very poor experience. NOT one I would care to repeat. ADDITIONAL COMMENT IN RESPONSE TO OWNER'S INVITATION TO CONTACT HIM: I tried to make contact via the phone number given in the owner's response to my original review, at various times throughout the afternoon and evening, but most of the dozen-plus calls went unanswered. One call was answered in the afternoon and I was told that the landlord was attending a medical appointment and that he would be back in about an hour. I accepted that at face value and indicated that I would call again later. An hour and a half later two more calls went to answering machine, a third call was picked up but no-one spoke to me. A further call was answered by a female, but again the landlord was absent. I was told that he would be back at 7 o'clock. Shortly after 8 o'clock I redialed at least ten times before getting an answer, but, guess what, the landlord was yet again not available! The female with whom I tried to have a conversation appeared to be finding something amusing, as she giggled constantly as I outlined the reason for my call. I asked her to let the landlord know that I had responded to his request to make contact. Her response to that was to hang up on me! If that person was entrusted to represent my company, I would be horrified by such a response to a customer. Who's was the male voice chipping in in the background, I wonder? If the owner was not genuine in asking me to contact him, why request me to do so? No response at all from him would have been better than this farce. Was it just window dressing?

It's clean and friendly didn't have food just a drink which ok

Was uncomfortablly hot. Food wait was a long time considering the place was relatively quiet..the food was mediocre. Steak specials missing items and over cooked and chewy . Wouldn't go back unfortunately ..the sister Marston's pub only a short drive away was much better and would recommend going there instead

Food took ages to come and in several batches. Also the manager went into the kitchen to vape on several occasions just inside the door so all the customers can see them. Not very professional and has put me off visiting again as we booked a table for 7 and the food arrived in the 3 servings

Called in late Sunday hoping to get a meal and a couple of drinks and have to say both were excellent food even had an extra 20% off making the Beef Bourginon even more delicious. Beer was well kept and went down equally well. Thanks for a good time.

Recently visited this pub during a shift change. I had been drinking a lager top style drink of which the lemonade part was free of charge. Upon a shift change, this lemonade dash became an unjustified additional charge of £0.75 per pint. I know raw material prices have increased recently, but jeez!

Live just up the road but never been before. Couldn't be bothered to cook tea so went down for a meal. Lovely friendly place , good atmosphere, really nice food. Mine - starter, crispy mushroom with garlic sauce, madras curry, substituted nan bread for garlic bread. Sue had Thursdays meal deal... "skinny steak (which isn't), done to a turn, with a glass of red wine. Me half a Guiness (really nice).All for £25, can't grumble at that. To top it all great service. Called in today , for the first time in years, definitely handicapped friendly, no problem with wheelchair access, food excellent , friendly greeting from the landlady whose a credit to her profession. Will be calling in again soon, highly recommended

It was far below standard.. We ordered a a prawn cocktail and mushrooms for starters and steak and special chicken burger Not as described at all!! Prawn cocktail came in a white lasagne dish with no bread.. And mushrooms came with no salad no cutlery until we asked.. Bread did come but I had eaten my food Steak was not cooked correctly and served on a child size plate I asked for skinny steak with extra portion of chips these duly came but again served as if they had been a second thought The chicken burger should have been on a seasme bun but came on what can only be described as a wharbutons bap It all fell to pieces no offer of condements Clearly short staffed as dirty tables piling up Overall not a good experience On the plus the young girl who seemed to be doing it all and getting shouted at from I assume a manager who's barefooted children were running in and out of the kitchen another thing that shouldn't be happening She was lovely she a star genuinely tried and was polite and smiling through out If they had said we are short of staff and you may have to wait or we are not doing a full menu That may have elivated the issue and we could have decided to stay or not I will go back but improvement would need to be made

A party of seven including several elderly and disabled adults, we arrived for lunch at our booked table at 12pm. At 12.10pm we went to order our food. The grinning waitress said the chef hadn't turned up so there was no food. When will the chef be here? I don't know, she replied, and clearly she didn't care. Thanks for nothing. First and last visit to this dreadful pub.

Called in as the Taxi driver said it was a friendly and vibrant pub. Excellent and courteous staff who were very helpful. The manager Angela dealt with our queries and questions prompt regarding food and availability. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning again next time the family visit Scarborough.

We had to order proper meal for a 10 year old! Double burger huge amount of chips Paid adult prices obviously she could barely eat it and what she did have was tasteless! Had chilli and lasagna both dreadful! Will absolutely not go back!

Fixtures tires, dated and worn. Service was ok - food was nice but took 50 minutes for 4 meals to arrive and wasn’t busy. Shame as if the speed of food was better would have been an enjoyable time. From arriving to finish food took an hour and 10 minutes - can coke quicker at home.
