Nice little restaurant. Service not great but ok. Sat in the back so the view wasn’t great. Food came out a little cold and I think overpriced for what you get. If they sat us in the front it would have been nicer to eat your food. Overall wouldn’t go back again but might have a drink

Ordered avocado and poached eggs on brioche. When it arrived it was solid poached eggs and avocado on an old burger bun with sesame seeds. Apart from the avocado which wasn’t even mashed funny it was inedible

Cold service, and rude. So sorry to have to write this review after such a welcoming and enjoyable experience in Whitby. We chose here to have our last stop of the day. We have been visiting the area to see family and thought we would treat ourselves, at a £22 bill. I only asked if the martini was as I liked, but the response was less than friendly. We got chucked out of the seat given to us outside but next doors shop, and ending ended up gulping down what was meant to be the luxury drink of the day. Dissatisfied and disappointed.

Wonderful time and great food. Bar staff very friendly. Could not have asked for a better experience. Will definitely visit again on our next trip to Whitby.

The drinks were OK. The staff were friendly enough, but the food we ordered was poor. The calamari was stringy and chewy, and the coating was burnt. There were only five rings of it, and it cost £10.50. We also had steak loaded fries. There were six tiny pieces of chewy steak on the fries. Those were almost a tenner too. I found the whole setting very pretentious. For two starter type dishes and two drinks, it was almost £40. Very disappointed on the whole. We have walked past a few times with our kids over the years, and always said we'd like to go in and try it when kids free... I don't think we'd go back again.

A lovely early dinner during our trip to Whitby. Service was amazing as was the food and the cocktails were even better! Would definitely recommend and will definitely return! We would recommend booking as it got quite busy.

Booked for a Sunday turned up 3 deep at the bar offered a table literally at the front door asked for an alternative staff pointed to another table with no seats but said she wasn't keen on us sitting there as she ," needed to run the bar ". Picture gallery online clearly shows a separate dining area other than sitting in the bar I understand nothing is guaranteed but the staff attitude stinks clearly on this night at least totally focused on making money at the bar ended up In the magpie instead it was delicious and great staff ,couldn't recommend this place under any circumstances..

A nice little pub overlooking the bay. They got very nice sea food as well. Great atmosphere.

We have been here at least 10 times over the last 10 years or so and always had a great experience. But unfortunately on this occasion I have to say the food at moon and sixpence from starters to mains was very poor.

Came into here with my sister, upon leaving we accidentally left our shopping. When we went back after around 40 minutes inquiring for the bag, the service staff acted extremely awkward, one girl slightly flushed and nervous. They explained someone else had come in and claimed that our shopping was theirs. However right before leaving another customer informed us that the person who left with the shopping had stated the bag was not there’s but wanted the groceries, and instead of saying no and putting it behind the counter separately, the staff told them they were free to take it. Following this, according to the customer who informed us, they left giggling, very apparently not theirs and the staff did nothing. Very upset as this was fresh seafood we spent a lot of money on as a treat and cannot normally afford. Instead of putting it aside they just handed it out then gaslit us. Extremely unprofessional behaviour.

amazing food, drinks, location and cute decor, but the incredible service comes out on top!! welcomed immediately by friendly bar staff before we took our seats in the restaurant area out back. waitress was chatty and kind, answered all our questions. kitchen and bar don’t skimp! we got tons of delicious food for what we ordered, proper pints and big cocktails. when we finished our meals, we were offered a table by the window overlooking the river. everything was perfect, but the ladies working front of house on the evening of 21st jan are so thoughtful and a real credit to your team thank you!!!

1 of the servers let the team down - busy NYE around 7.30pm would have been a good atmosphere but the young girl had a miserable attitude. Took our order, and we waited patiently for our drinks as she then began unloading the dishwasher. Didn't tell us if we should sit and have them brought over or wait, we waited over 20 mins for these drinks which were basically dropped on the table with no eye contact. The other older girl was doing a great job and seemingly all the work!

Me and my wife have walked past for years and have seen it booming and never managed to get it. Recently we managed to get in and were the only table in. The selections of drinks, fantastic, the food we ate was brilliant, the location lovely, the venue very well decorated. I can see the effort the owner has put into the business. I also know the owner is heavily pregnant ‘and I don’t know why she bothers coming in or why we are still open’ ‘we are literally staying open till 8pm for 1 table tonight’ that table was us. When we asked what she recommend, her reply was I don’t like cheese, so I don’t eat anything from here. Brilliant I thought. Everything seemed too much for her. She did recommend the small plates but still it came across, I wouldn’t eat here. The barmaid would also slag every aspect of Whitby off to her friends that kept popping in for drinks. My daughter needed the loo, there was human poo all over the toilet seat, the toilets were disgusting. The place was empty, the place shouldn’t be dirty. The barmaid also made it clear to her friends she can’t remember the last time she mopped. What I’m trying to say is I can see the effort the owner has put in to have built up a fantastic business here. The food is brilliant, the front of house single member of staff is terrible and hate her job. She does not deserve a wage. In my profession they wouldn’t tolerate her rudeness or laziness. In my opinion she is ruining your business and needs to be let go. It has honestly ruined my day. Good food, good drinks, good location. Terrible hospitality. Sorry to give you this review but I hope you see why. All the time we were there we felt were an inconvenience whilst we had to listen to her say how much she hated her job. All we wanted to do was enjoy a family holiday meal

Ok here goes. I have had many many examples of my favorite cocktail (Espresso Martini) and to date my pinnacle has been Harvey Nichols cocktail bar. Until now !!! I applauded the skill of the staff at The Moon and Sixpence. This is my new number one Espresso Martini bar. If you are a fan of this cocktail, please check out The Moon and Sixpence, you won't regret it 👍.

Staff are rude, rather talk to local workmen at the bar than taking orders for their drinks which are ridiculously overpriced as it is. Was made to feel as an inconvenience. Won't be going back

We only popped in for a quick drink before the NYE fireworks. Very friendly staff and the prices were reasonable.

Great bar in Whitby, nice selection of wines and atmosphere. Crab cakes were very good, calamari was ok but not that good. Only thing I wouldn't recommend. Other than that 5/5

Went here a few weeks ago was really looking forward to it but it was actually quite disappointing. We have been here before & each time we come to Whitby we used to like coming here. Not this time. Even though we booked a table in advance we were given a small poky table which was very draughty. Was going to ask to be moved but by the time the waitress came back she had given all the other better tables to the walk-in customers. The food took ages to come & the “walk-in” people who came in after us got served before us. I imagine they were locals & obviously prioritised! I had the lobster 🦞 (which I’ve had before) this time it was overcooked & very average with the biggest amount of chips that nobody probably ever eats. Also the decor of the place has gone very downhill must have been done cheaply. It used to have wooden booths & carpet on the floor now it’s just cheap tables & chairs & laminate floor so no wonder it’s so cold. I don’t think we’ll be bothering with here again as it’s overpriced for what you get & service needs attention as if your just a tourist they obviously think you’re not worthy of good customer service.

What a lovely spot, walked past this place about a hundred times, had a coffee but never food. Table was lovely, staff really professional and friendly. Totally handled the drunk punters! Relaxed atmosphere, food was delicious and plenty of choice. Wine was really good too Scampi and cheese fritters for starters Mac n cheese and halloumi mains, then followed the food coma 🫣 Great night, would definitely go back and we'll worth a visit.

We have been visiting on our annual December getaway for the last few years and this place never disappoints. The highlight of our visit this year was the Ferro Roche cocktail, omg what a triumph, this has to be the best cocktail ever!!!! Would absolutely highly recommend x

Breakfast was disappointing. The sausages were good as were the hash browns. Apart from that, the rest of the food was not hot enough. The mushrooms and bacon were overcooked and the poached egg was hard. Disappointing for £12.

Called in for a drink before dining at the sister restaurant next door. There’s a great selection of cocktails as well plenty of spirits to choose from. It’s a bit lacking in atmosphere but that’s not really a problem for us

Lovely atmosphere,we only had cocktails,but they were excellent. They currently have 12 Christmas cocktails on offer at the moment, two for £18. Expertly made and worth every penny,I highly recommend the "All I want for Christmas" cocktail. Unable to eat here due to lack of vegan options.

Lovely find, nicely decorated, friendly waitress. Varied choice of food which was all very tasty but we did feel like we had to wait a while before it was served. Enjoyable experience all the same.

Bit disappointing to be honest. Have been here before for breakfast which I remember being very tasty. Came for dinner with a group of friends. I had the philly cheesesteak loaded fries which were £9.50 and bbq chicken wings. They consisted of a reasonable sized bowl of chips with less than a handful of pretty bland looking steak chunks and a scattering of grated mozzarella cheese on it. Boring, lacking imagination, not very good value for money. Lazy cheffing or chef's hands tied by the need to turn a profit? Not sure, probably a bit of both. But you'd get the same thing from a takeaway for less half the price. Should have been a lot better than that. Chef could do a lot, lot better. The wings were also very average. Tiny, lacking in flavour, uninteresting. It's a nice venue, staff were friendly and attentive but the food was a huge let down. Would come back for drinks but not to eat. 👎

Just popped in for a quick drink. Lovely friendly staff. The food coming out looked great but we just had some hot drinks. I have a sweet tooth but my goodness the hot chocolate was soooo sweet as it came and it was served with lumps of sugar on the side too! If I'm passing again I'd definately try the food.

Popped in to get out of the windy rainy weather and ordered two pots of tea. Lovely tea and very generous sized pots. Nice atmosphere too. We didn't eat here but the food that we saw being delivered to other tables looked and smelled great.

A pint of Moretti and a prosecco £13.50 the Moretti was flat,the Prosecco £6.50 I got the beer changed, no better and asked for another Prosecco, another £6.50. Give this place a miss, total rip off

Fantastic tasty food with excellent service. Great value for money with good portions. Burrito and mac and cheese was excellent.

This glass has just cost us £13 wow! We had a bottle of prosecco locally the night before for £23 absolutley ridiculous prices .. and staff just ignorant.

Food and drink was 10/10 one of the best meals and cocktails we had in whitby ! Managed to get a table on a busy friday night and so glad we did the raspberry daiquiri was gorgeous as was the enchilada and taco bowl we had. Will definitely visit again and recommend to anyone ! To make it even better it was very well priced.

evening meal - food was very nice plenty to eat and very tasty. We had the chunky chilli and spare ribs which were very tasty. Nice wine list too. Service was good the young lady was very efficient.

A really nice restaurant on the water, mega food and good drink! The burrito was great value and fries were lovely! My partners halloumi was too big a portion for her, and on helping her finish it, was also really tasty. Friendly staff, happy to leave a tip as the restaurant girl was on her own and worked hard ensuring everyone was happy.

Booked for meal, food came out had to send back as not cooled through. Wife ate her meal so it didn’t go cold whilst I waited for mine to be reheated. Not ideal when you are meant to be out for a meal together. £29 for a very mediocre sirloin steak was far too much.

Went here for a romantic meal with my husband. Soon as we got there we we welcomed and sat to our seat. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Menu was full of different options. I had the steak and my only little gripe there was it didn't tell you a weight of the steak nor did they do any sauces to go with it. It came with a butter on it. I think it would have been nice to be asked if you wanted it on or at the side. I had a brownie for pudding however I couldn't eat it, it was dry and smelt burnt. I did mention it on paying and they advised the usual chef was on holiday and not usually that standard and they refunded the brownie price.

Constructive criticism...Really need to be more aware of your customers! First time here, we walked in and asked if dogs were allowed, told yes they were. Great. Then we were basically ignored! There were no menus on the table and we weren't invited to order...

Booked because of the reviews which over rate this restaurant. The Moon and Sixpence overlooks the harbour but diners are relegated to the back room which has decor reminiscent of a victorian toilet. Waiter was great and food was decidedly average apart from the loaded fries which are very lightly loaded to the point of utter disappointment. Not a restaurant I can recommend but the bar area one hansomely so drink, and snack and eat somewhere elsee

Went in for drinks. It was very busy as you would expect from a holiday weekend, which was fine, decent atmosphere. Sadly we were met by an employee who was just rude. She was completely devoid of all the basic skills needed for working in a customer facing industry. Just came across as if everything was just too much bother, not good.

We used to visit here a lot when coming to Whitby but sadly it isn't what it was. The food was mediocre, we ordered prawns on chips and it was literally 4 small prawns and some chips, no dressing or seasoning to a 'loaded fries'. Our drinks were ok and the service was ok. I think they were just very busy. The toilets are tiny and were dirty, There are separate facilities for baby changing. The toilets are several steps down.

The low quality of the cocktails, those who eat only sugar will probably like it. The kitchen is open several hours a day, visitors are not allowed into the restaurant room. A good viewing place, but it's like that everywhere.

Huge portions. The deep fried halloumi was far too much for one person, two huge wedges. Could have done with a sauce to cut through the fat and served with fries and salad instead of huge potato wedges and mushy peas. The king prawn fajitas however were delightful and I would highly recommend. The waitress was very friendly and obliging. Beautiful views of the harbour though and great to people watch. Quite expensive, especially the drinks but ina prominent position and it is tourist season!

Having a short break of three days in Whitby we found this place to be the bar we were looking for after covering most of Whitby! The staff were very enthusiastic at making the best cocktails, nice back ground music fantastic view over the harbour what a great place! Absolutely awful. Cold rainy day and the door was wide open. Asked for a table and got told to find one round the corner of the bar. This table was directly in the draft of the open door. Staff turned their noses up every time...
