Rude staff with the worst food hygiene standards I have ever seen. I have reported to the local council and Environmental Agency. How they have a 5 star hygiene rating is beyond me, I imagine their last inspection was a long time ago. During our visit, it was extremely quiet, and when asking to order specific items from the menu, it was as though we had asked for the world. Eyes rolling and complete attitude. Avoid at all costs.

How are you still open with these reviews?! The worst staff, snappy and rude. Especially the older lady. I told a member of staff it was unprofessional to be eye rolling at customers. The older “lady” shouts across the shop to me saying “we didn’t actually”. I stated I saw the staff member do it, in which I got the response “oh whatever” They all then huddled in a group whilst staring out the window and muttered between themselves like a group of school girls. Avoid avoid! Like everyone else has said basically

I fail to see how this place can remain open. Greasy and tastless food, rude staff and extortionate prices. Our breakfast was undercooked, sausages were pretty much raw. When we complained we were told "they're fine and the chef is experienced". No offer of refund or fresh food. I'd avoid. Much nice places to eat in Whitby.

Staff very unfriendly, hadn't got the meal I wanted and then when I tried to order the children's meal of fish fingers for my adult autistic son (who doesn't like large meals) was told in no uncertain terms that they couldn't do it because the meals were only for children under the age of 11. I asked why that would be problem as we were also ordering 2 more adult meals to be told that if the owner came in she would go mad. We have been in numerous cafe's, pub's in and around where we are staying near Pickering and have never been denied ordering the child's meal until We got to this cafe in Whitby. If you want a friendly atmosphere, avoid this place. We ended up in Botham's which was a much better experience by far, staff couldn't do enough to please.

Staff were stern and unfriendly not a smile to be seen the whole visit. Refused to swap 2 sausages for hash brown on the full English which cost me £1.75 extra bringing a very low quality breakfast to £10. Overall it's totally overpriced for the quality. Shop around some places serving high quality breakfasts with fresh ingredients for far less, and with a sprinkle of happiness for free.

A decent quality home style meal for a stop off at lunch time! I went for the pie and chips which was good. The pie was extremely tasty as were the chips and peas, I could have just done with the gravy being slightly thicker! My partner went for the lasagna which she really enjoyed too! Friendly staff and good customer service! For nut allergy sufferers staff are knowledgeable about items on the menu!

Came here for a hot drink onTuesday, service very poor, we were waiting to be served for 5 minutes, lady serving didn't acknowledge us certainly will not be coming here again, found a beautiful coffee shop further up the road.

Really poor service and food. Asked for the full English and asked for scrabbled eggs as don’t like fried eggs. Despite them also having on the menu scrabbled egg on toast they refused to let me have it with my full English. Ended up having to buy scrabbled egg on toast to get the scrambled eggs. 😡 They then came up and charged us for the food before it had even arrived at the table. The food itself was poor especially the sausages that tasted like ones you get at a buffet breakfast. They then brought out the wrong drinks and the coffee was rubbish. Avoid here or use as a last resort.

Really efficient and polite staff, fast service, which is great as I’d just got off a bus and was starving! The café was busy and there was only one person waiting on, making hot drinks, taking payments and cleaning tables, however there was no delay in service as she was very fast and communicated well with everyone. The americano coffee was decent (and I’m a coffee snob) to go with a good sized full English breakfast, with hash browns as extras. I asked them to do my bacon extra crispy, which they did. The sausages were not that great but I didn’t think it was worth knocking down the review score as the rest of it was great, the value for money is excellent, the tables were clean and it’s a really homely local cafe. Happy customer :)

On a freezing December morning my wife and myself visited Janes kitchen. The décor and seating could appear a bit underwhelming though staff were friendly. I ordered the full English followed by scones and I was transported back to breakfasts cooked by my Mum. The fried bread and mushrooms cooked in the bacon fat 4 large bacon slices mushrooms two eggs sausages and beans and a huge pot of tea. The clientele appeared to be mostly locals and greeted each other on entering which lent an air of authenticity. The scones were large and very tasty. I will definitely eat here again.

Beautifully cooked full english breakfast, generous portions all for under £7. Cafe well presented and spotless and friendly service. Can highly recommend.

Good value food served by a cheerful waitress. We had cheese & pickle sandwiches with a salad side. A nice pot of tea & at a reasonable price. Very clean. Toilet well maintained & modern. Can recommend. Thank you.

A really cute, clean cafe where we had a lovely breakfast. My hubby had scrambled eggs on toast and I had the breakfast muffin which was delicious. The waitress was really welcoming and I would definitely return.

Nice breakfast although trying to order individual items for a breakfast was difficult. My wife wanted bacon, egg and tomato with toast. She was told she could only order what was on the menu. I had a full breakfast and she ended up with a breakfast muffin without a muffin. A bit of a fuss over nothing really but marked down. The food was good.

Visited for breakfast on our stay at whitby I must say it is best breakfast in whitby the cafe is spotless and the staff very pleasent would recommend

My wife and I called in here at lunchtime, she had the full breakfast and I had a bacon bun. The quality of the food and service by the staff was excellent. A pleasant surprise.

Pretty average, scampi was decent and chips ok but fish was tasteless and very small. Portion sizes need looking at and welcome when we arrived wasn’t very warm. The younger lady seemed a lot nicer though.

Went for breakfast today 14/07/21 with my wife… I don’t normally write reviews to be honest but I feel I must… The service was great but the food wasn’t, just take a look at the bacon I was served, absolutely disgusting.

We called in for a drink and (late lunch) sandwich. Our sandwich order was quickly delivered to the table and we did feel rather rushed, although it was near to closing time. Sandwiches were well filled, freshly made and reasonably priced.

Had a 4 day stay in Whitby, Worse place we had breakfast They need to clean the bacon Griddle, and do away with microwaving the sausage,place was clean and customer service was good, Kitchen staff should have there hair put up too

Visited for brunch on a Sunday. Small place but well looked after. My Full English was probably the best I've ever had in this country. My wife's vegan was among the very best also. Superb ingredients, beautifully prepared. Very, very good!

We went to Jane's kitchen for breakfast as it had been recommended to us by family. We found the staff very friendly & helpful & there were covid precautions in place. All 4 of us had a breakfast which was very substantial & enjoyable, the only thing that let it down slightly was the economy sausages, which was a shame as the rest of the breakfast was very good. Wasn't the cheapest breakfast we've ever had, but you do get a decent amount to eat.

We went for a full English each and a pot of tea. Fresh cooked, hot and tasty. Very friendly service. Sanitised between customers. Highly recommend. We will go again next time we’re in Whitby

We stumbled upon this place and the lady was so welcoming and friendly! We had tea, hot chocolate and a scone. The scone was homemade and delicious! Lovely place. You have to have food and a drink to sit in but they do takeaways as well. Definitely recommend to stop off here to take a rest from site seeing.

Visited Sunday morning for breakfast, all covid-19 safety in place. Cafe very clean, food excellent and most important the customer service was excellent. It was such a pleasure to visit a small cafe under difficult covid-19 situation and enjoy the experience so much. In fact we complemented the staff on leaving. Decided to just have a coffee mid morning on Sunday. Let in Given a table Our order was taken Just for coffee. We were sat Coats off ready to enjoy and we were then told by someone else we could not just have coffee at that time As tables were for customers ordering food only . REALLY If that was the case it should have been on a notice by the door stating this We should have been told as our order was taken. Not AFTER we had got settled by someone else.

Trying to find somewhere on a Saturday aft to have a sandwich in Whitby isn't always easy. I had given up hope & then came across Jane's Kitchen. Friendly welcome, chose seat, order taken very quickly & drinks came just as quick. I wanted somewhere smaller & more personal & that is what we found. Tuna, cheese & onion panini X 2 came quickly with fresh salad & lots of flavour. Now we know where they are we would definitely go again. Very clean surroundings & uniforms x

Lovely fresh food, we had brunch. Our order was taken quickly and the food arrived promptly. A great tea too, after drinking out of takeaway cups for a few days it was good to have a proper cup! Friendly service, very clean & fulfilling all Covid-19 regulations.

Great place for a coffee and to listen to all the locals gossiping. We always go at least once on our trip to Whitby. The staff know all the locals who visit and we sit there with a smile on our face as they all natter about the local events and day to day life. It's like a free show with your coffee. Very clean and well kept. The food is fresh and home made and very good. Nope through to the rock shop next door for some sweets. Will be back later in the year..

Whitby was so busy today that we tried a different place for hot drinks and sweet stuff. I had treacle pudding and custard and my husband had the biggest scone I’ve ever seen. The hot chocolate passed my hot chocolate test in that it was piping hot and Tony enjoyed his coffee. The order was taken at the table and service was prompt and friendly. Also it was great value for money. We will definitely call here again. Scrumptious!

Good varied menu and reasonable priced.Ordered the 'special' fish cakes with chips.Very disappointing.Nothing special about the fishcakes they were like cheap frozen ones.The chips were like scraps and appeared to have been re fried as they were soaked in fat in the middle.The jacket potato was ok ish could have done with sum butter on as very suspicious this was from the microwave and was very dry.The salad however was lovely and fresh.Tea and coffee good.

All I can say is.... best place iv eaten in long time. The portion size are big and the children meal are good size. Very good food tasted amazing even my daughter chicken nuggets were nice. Will definitely be going back again.Well done to the staff.

This is a small cafe but the food is home made and the scones are lovely and all reasonably price when visiting Whitby this is a cafe you must visit.

This is a great little cafe for lunch. We stopped off here with our 2 year old and the staff we're nothing but helpful and kept talking to our son during the whole visit. The food was relatively basic but done well and the price wasn't too high. I would definitely recommend the scones - so tasty!

We were hoping to have fish and chips at a certain place and there were no tables free. Carried on walking and came across this delightful cafe. We , all 5 of us found our favourites on the menu. We asked for little differences to the menu and the staff were happy to oblige. Lovely staff. Good food at good prices. So pleased we found this . Brought some pudding / cake home. Yummy

Staying at Robin Hoods Bay so decided to come out to Whitby for the day and instead of cook a breakfast to treat ourselves to someone else doing it for us. Found this lovely cafe/kitchen called Janes Kitchen just on the walk way over the bridge towards the Whitby steps next to the rock shop on the corner. We both ordered a cooked breakfast each with a cuppa and can of cola. Have to say a very clean, popular place to eat with all our food beautifully cooked and lots on the plate and a good price. There is also a toilet inside which is clean. Dogs are allowed too which is a nice touch. There are also tables and chairs outside so an added touch. Definitely recommend you try it as lots on the menu and certainly affordable and friendly staff who look after you in a clean and modern place to eat.

Shocked is an understatement. We were turned away due to my uncle being in a wheelchair and they were unwilling to move tables to make room! Wow! "We can't move that table as that would be for a paying customer" was the quote we recieved when asked why they couldn't shuffle furniture around. Amazed that in this day and age, people are still so rude!!! Especially shop staff!

Went in placed our drinks order then when some more customers turned up 5 minutes later we were asked to leave before our drinks were brought to us as they needed the table. Will not return. Go to Arnie's further up.

We are a family of 2 adults and two little ones, we went in the cafe and were seated straight away. The waitress came over and took out drinks order, made sure with the woman behind the counter that it was still time to serve drinks only, confirmed it was. Waited a few minutes then the waitress came back over and asked us to leave as we were taking a table up when we only wanted drinks. No sign or anything anywhere saying you could only enter if you were also ordering food. Had to try and explain to my 3 year old why we couldn't have a drink there and had to leave. Absolutely disgusting!!!!

It's sad to see the management here have not learned any lessons in manners. We stopped In here for a quick cuppa as it was raining. When we ordered a coffee and tea, we were asked...."Is that all?" To which I replied "yes thanks". The waitress, a grumpy blonde woman, tutted and walked off muttering. I didn't realise there was a minimum spend in a cafe! As it was empty you'd think they'd appreciate our custom. Poor!

This little cafe is a little gem, it's up a side street for which Whitby is famous for.

Tucked away in a lane way, this was a welcome hideout from the miserable weather. Coffee was tasty however scones were, a: not sure if we have any and b: definitely only one each. All in all not too bad. Cash only and don’t even think about walking into the next shop through the open doorway...staff only!

We walked passed this cafe and saw that the sign said it was open. It looked really nice from the outside so we tried the door which was also open. However we were met with a very rude lady who said they weren't open and wouldnt be until quarter past nine. It was five to nine at the point so my partner asked if we were okay to sit inside and wait as it was raining outside. Her reply was no.

You can only eat so much fish and chips in Whitby and this was a excellent change, service was friendly and fast food was home made and spot on highly recommend

We called in as we wanted a full English breakfast. Bypassing Wetherspoons as the sausages there are really cheap nasty we then stubbled upon Janes Kitchen.

Popped in here for breakfast, wasn't particularly busy. Took an age to get served. Some items were requested to not be included in the breakfast yet still were. When we complained we were tutted at! Had to wait an age again after sending back, food then came back out, blatantly the same food as was cold and you could see the scrape marks off the plate. Refused to pay and left. Appalling.

Had a lovely lunch in here. They have a great kids menu and a high chair. The food is lovely and the staff friendly. Dogs are allowed. It is cash only, but there is an ATM in the newsagents round the corner.

We have been here every time we have visited Whitby. Great prices, fab food and friendly service! Perfect for lunch or a coffee and cake.

We came here with friends after visiting the picturesque town of Whitby. Looked half decent from the outside so went in. Service was very slow, staff just chatting to each other with no real urgency or welcoming attitude. Ordered out food, 30 minutes later!!!! It arrived. Sausages were cold and if I'm honest, I don't believe they were fully cooked as pink in the middle. Wife had bacon sandwich, slightly greasy but edile as she was so hungry. We had to ask for more toast as 2 slices extra between 4 people was appalling. When we got the bill, we were charged for extra toast! Even though the breakfasts came with toast. Shocking. Refused to pay for that. I refused to pay full price for my meal as quite honestly, it was poor. Plenty more nice places to eat here in Whitby.

got takeaway sandwiches (bacon and sausage) from here with friends. sausages were very well cooked, in the middle of a lovely floured breadbun. will be coming here in future, keep it up

We were having a weekend break in Whitby and decided to drop in for a late breakfast. Service was prompt and with a smile. The breakfast was hot, tasty and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed it and returned for exactly the same day.

We stopped in here on way past as my wife was peckish. I had a bacon sandwich which was greasy and cold but the main issue was the attached picture. My wife had a salad, including a hair band and hair! Revolting. My wife queried it and was told it's "Not one of ours". Who's is it then! Didn't even have the decency to no charge! We refused to pay for the meal and left. One to avoid.

If you're looking for a decent cafe I'd genuinely avoid this one. The food was average at best, greasy, cold. The coffee was tasteless. On top of this, the staff were extremely rude and bad mouthed. Could here them discussing what they got up to at the weekend. Not very professional and I for one, do not expect to have to listen to who slept with who whilst eating a cold breakfast. Defo one to avoid.

Popped in for the all in breakfast. Excellent food. 2 eggs, two bacon, 2 sausage, toast and fried bread. Very friendly staff and very clean. Ignore other bad reviews, this is the gem of whitby. Keep up the excellent work.

Had an excellent breakfast here. Very surprised at the other reviews but base mine on my personal experience as everyone should. Staff very friendly and food lovely. Will return here.
