Has no idea what it is. A lovely offering two nights ago but tonight it was bar food only for casual punters. Wish I had bought a ready meal from the coop. We had a pesto pasta which despite the efforts of a CSI team would not detect any of the promised sun dried tomato. I fear this is the normal standard

We ate at Taste for my uncle’s 80th birthday. There were 12 of us, including toddlers and baby on a Saturday evening. My uncle is used to fine dining and Taste completely met his standards in terms of cuisine and service. The food was excellent and no-one had an average choice! We had a room to ourselves and service was great, particularly as it was our waitress’s first week there. Food was prompt and flexible for the kids. Smart but not stuffy or too formal. The food really was delicious and the best food I’ve tasted in Scarborough. Would definitely go again 😊

Booked a meal for two for 7pm Tuesday evening. Stayed there several times before and had lovely meals but this time almost half of menu was not available to order. I had camambert which was just ok, it had been heated to the point that it had started to go hard. My wife had pea and mint soup which was ok. My main was Coq ou vin which again was nothing special, my wife had ribeye steak with salad and new potatoes whoch were still hard. The restaurant was very drab considering it was the christmas period. Visiting in years past it was festively dressed , this year nothing to suggest christmas. Some of the light bulbs were missing so it was dark in the room and made the menu hard to read. The only good thing was the service by the two young ladies one taking orders and the other one serving the food who were polite, helpful and friendly. Sadly we are unlikely to visit the restaurant again.

I had the misfortune in February to find myself ate the mercy of the staff at the Crown Spa hotel in Scarborough. My wife and I decided to have a spot of lunch at the Crown Spa whilst on a day trip to Scarborough. It was a nice sunny day so we decided to sit outside, which is a nice outdoor space with great views over the South Bay. We ordered at the bar - tea, coffee and some sandwiches. The lad who took the order seemed genuinely shocked that he was working in a hotel which served drinks and food and was at a loss how to take the order and pass it to the kitchen. It was comical. We placed the order at 12.05. The tea and coffee arrived at 12.20 and I reminded the waiter that we’ve also ordered some sandwiches. He’s like ‘oh, I didn’t know about that, only a member of staff has just fallen down the stairs and he’s got to go home and I’m not sure about food’. All irrelevant detail of course. After a further 20 minutes I deceived to go up to the bar to hurry things along a bit. I waited at the bar for 10 mins. I was cheesed off so I went to the reception - no one there. It was like the Marie Seleste. Eventually a young girl comes from office and says she will call someone to take my order at the bar. So off I trot back to the bar. This is funny - a bloke comes out in overalls, covered in plaster and paint and he’s like ‘can I help you pal ?’. He goes - they’re short of staff and this lads fallen down the stairs and....well I knew the rest. So I ordered more tea and enquired as to the status of the sandwiches. He looks at me all quizzical like and says ‘what sandwiches ?’. So I explained to him that this is a hotel/restaurant and I ordered some sandwiches about 40 minutes ago. So he then scurries off to find out what’s happening. So I have to go back and explain to my wife the whole debacle and this is like 45 minutes later. Sandwiches arrive at 13.10 - just over an hour after ordering them. Lots of apologies from waiter etc..The bread is hard - either out of date or been left out. By this stage we were both so hungry, they could’ve put a turd in front of me and I would got stuck in. I decided to lodge a formal complaint - the manager called Simon comes out. Whilst I am telling him what happened he keeps interrupting me and it becomes apparent that he just wants to get shut of me. This is all playing out in the reception in front of other guests who are checking in with a look of horror on their faces. Simon is starting to irritate me, so I ask him what he is going to do to make me a delighted customer. But I’m obviously an inconvenience to him, so he goes ‘I’m going to show you exactly what I’m going to do’ and he hands me a pen and paper with his email and asks to to put it all in writing and whilst I am trying to point out to him that it would be a lot easier to sort this out now, he scurries off whilst I’m still trying to reason with him. It was a proper Fawlty Towers experience. As I was leaving, one of the staff members asked me if I’d managed to speak with the manager, to which I said yes and he would benefit from some customer training, to which he laughed. I emailed him that very evening with a detailed list off all my complaints and how he could improve his customer skills. Within a few minutes I received an off the shelf, standard email, with a laughable offer of £10 voucher - which I accepted because i could not be bothered to take the conversation any further. Btw - for the ‘pleasure’ of this service, Simon and the Crown Spa charged me £35. Basil, sorry Simon needs to go on a customer skills course.

We called into the Hotel by chance and saw the menu for the Taste Restaurant and Café Bar. The restaurant choices are very good and also quite reasonable for such a fine hotel. We received a friendly and courteous welcome from Michael the restaurant manager and we were escorted to a window table with views over the south bay. We decided to order a starter followed by a selection of the tapas dishes. The starters were perfectly presented on hot plates and served by friendly and efficient waiters. My husband had tagliatelle all carbonara and I had the mussels in a creamy herb sauce. Both starters were delicious and very generous in portion sizes. We chose a Spanish house red wine which complimented both dishes very well. The manager and the waiting staff enquired at certain times how our food was in an inobtrusive and friendly manner. The tapas dishes were all well presented, piping hot and of good portion sizes. Again, the service was very good, friendly and attentive. Each of the tapas dishes were delicious and tasty. We finished our meal with a very good espresso coffee. My husband and I were delighted to have come across the Taste restaurant quite by chance and to have enjoyed a superb meal with wine at a very reasonable price. The friendly and efficient service added to our happy experience even more. Thank you all at Taste. We will definitely call again on our next visit to Scarborough.

I booked into the restaurant after I’d booked a room. In fact the hotel rang me to ask if I wanted to eat there.... sure I would! My girlfriend and I dressed up and arrived bang on time. The order was taken in good time, ordered drinks were a little slow in coming.... but Ivan live with that. The decor is nice, but could be a little less bright, dimming the lighting a little would add to the ambiance I think. But it was a comfortable room, and not too noisy. Our food arrived, and the plates were piping hot, as was the food. I personally like my food arriving hot. But the next table found it a bit much. We however just avoided getting 1st degree burns and cracked on. My partners food was nice, if a little too much, as she had asked for a smaller portion... but it wasn’t, she hates waste and unfortunately she had to leave some. Her risotto was nice, but lacked something, I felt it was a little bland....My Carbonara was ok, but the sauce a little watery towards the end, and also needed more flavour. I tried a pudding, the Lime Posset mousse. It was pretty good! But could do with a better presentation than in a glass. The coconut shortbread with it was nice though. The menu was extensive, so give it a try.... just remember the food and plates will be hot!

The restaurant is slightly formal, without being snobby and would highly recommend for that special occasion or just to go and see what food tastes like that is made by a real chef. The only moan I would have is that the service is a bit slow and you need to catch the waiters eye to get drinks or the bill - I had to ask 2 different people for the bill in the end.

This is probably the first time we have actually eaten in the restaurant since we first stayed at the Crown Spa in 2013. All I can say is the food is great. Both my partner and I enjoyed the food on offer. My partner started with the melon starter which she tells me was amazing. For mains I had the Crown burger with sweet potato fries and a side of onion rings. The homemade onion rings were lovely. The burger was good and I had paid extra to double it up. My partner had the grilled chicken for her main. She has no complaints over this stating she would have it again any time. We declined to have dessert however. Personally I felt that the selection was limited. I felt that perhaps having maybe a cheesecake dessert or a warm traditional British dessert would have enhanced the menu. All I perhaps would have ordered would have been the ice cream which I could see from others around me looked good however at the time I just didn't feel like it. The restaurant does provide food for the room service for which my partner had a carrot cake from the menu. She stated it was lovely and was one of the best carrot cakes she had eaten. Staff were very attentive and friendly and this made for a pleasant dining experience!! Would eat here again!

However, after ordering our food and drinks it took 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We had to ask 3 times and were already well into our mains by the time they turned up. This was very disappointing when we were supposed to be celebrating. Also the other tables that emptied around us were all left with plates full of food and dirty glasses, while staff stood in the doorway chatting. However one member of staff noticed we were unhappy and sorted our drinks as soon as we told him the problem. He apologised profusely and offered us a free dessert in recompense. This did make up for the poor service we had received earlier. It is a shame because the food is presented beautifully and tastes good. Not how we wanted to spend our anniversary really.

We all walked from our hotel to meet up with my son and find somewhere to eat . We were very impressed with the restuarant and the menu so decided to stay for a meal . We hadn't booked a room and our visit was for a family funeral the next day so when we approached the matre-de they managed to squeeze us in. I thought it was bravado but we soon realised that they were very busy and rightly so. As we told them we needed to get away quickly after eating, they took our order at the bar before our table was ready. Once seated the food arrived quickly and was good quality at affordable prices. We wished that we had booked into teh Crown Spa Hotel as the whole experience seemed professional with great customer service.

Thinking this was the hotel restaurant for guests I asked if they served non-residents which they did, all day. Looked at the menu and hbeing late afternoon and not eaten since breakfast we gave it a try.Service was very friendly and down-to-earth. Could have a laugh and a joke with the staff. We could choose our own table (at that time of day the restaurant was empty). Food was reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant but extremely well presented and very tasty. We only had a main course each but there was ample choice. Large TV in the restaurant could annoy some people, certainly if it is left on during main meal times.Would have no hesitation in recommending.

We came for a drink initially as the outside seating area is very pleasant. We managed to book a table for the same evening. There was plenty of choice. I had the Seabass which was very nice, for such a large hotel I thought the wine list was very restricted, however I did find a South African Sauvignon blanc which was quite nice! All in all, very pleasant atmosphere, nice food, we would go back.

Bare tables etc gave the impression of an old 'Bernie Inn' not a restaurant in a 4 star hotel. Tables close together and no atmosphere. Not sure who they are trying to cater for. Menu includes pizza and pasta, tapas and burgers as well as a la carte. I started with the squid, tough, followed by duck. The duck was cooked perfectly pink but served on what was supposed to be a rosti. It was very sloppy and the whole dish covered in a brown sauce. The whole dish looked unappetising however was incredibly tasty. Cheese board was good. My wife had the sea bass and again didn't look brilliant but flavour was ok. Very confusing place that didn't encourage you to return.

We visited this restaurant mid week. When we sat down in the restaurant we noticed a large TV screen next to the table, which was broadcasting football. The restaurant was half full and no one was watching it. We asked the rather sullen waitress if it could be turned off as it was distracting, and she said 'this is the casual dining room and it's always on'. We thought this was strange, but the TV was eventually turned off. The food menu was a bit daunting - I understand that they need to try and cater for all tastes, but surely they can't keep that amount of food fresh. 2 of us ordered dishes with 'fresh' tuna. The tuna was so overcooked, it was a waste of a good piece of fish.

We stayed at the crown, so decided to eat at the taste, and we're delighted with the meals. I had the mussels in a Thai broth for starter, which was lovely, although very generously portioned, and I sadly left a lot as felt would risk leaving some of my main. My partner had the ham hock terrine for starter, and again commented on how lovely it was, although he did comment it wasn't a traditional terrine in the way he knew as it had large chunks of potato in it, but he liked it. For mains :I had the British beef rump, with wild garlic mash & mushroom & ale jus! I ordered this medium and rare and it was cooked to perfection! I could not find a single fault with this meal!My partner had the confit belly pork, and it looked fantastic, the small part I tried was cooked lovely, and my partner said it was some of the best belly pork he has had in a while! Puddings:I had the sticky toffee pudding, unfortunately this is where the meal was let down, the edge of the pudding where the sauce had been poured over was very nice, however the pudding itself was very dry and was such a shame! My partner had the chocolate, caramel & peanut cheesecake, which was presented lovely, and a good sized portion, however the base of the cheesecake was a little soggy but otherwise very nice. Along with one rum & coke & a cocktail, the meal came to £77, as we had booked with the hotel direct we then received 10% off so overall we were impressed!

Having got a good deal at the Crown Hotel and being very impressed with the room we decided to try the in house restaurant 'Taste'. We were shown to a nice table in the main dining room though we were not generously spaced between other couples which spoiled the atmosphere, and made things quite awkward. The restaurant wasn't fully booked so squeezing extra tables in seemed pointless. The main problem with this place is service.Drinks took forever, food luke warm and staff almost walking in the other direction to avoid complaints.Whether under staffed or badly managed im not sure. All in all I'd rebook the hotel any day but probably give the restaurant a miss.

After checking in at the Crown we were so impressed that we made a reservation in their restaurant thinking what could possibly go wrong! Well as it happens just about everything. The food was badly prepared. The mussels were overcooked and tough. We both ordered the battered hake with chips, we were on the east coat after all! The batter was under cooked and there was a tiny fillet well hidden in the mush that was the batter. When we raised this with the staff we were offered complimentary sweet or coffee, neither of which we wanted. Sadly a badly handled situation with a lack of empathy. We suspect this isn't a one off as when we attended for breakfast the following morning and it was absolute chaos. Dirty tables everywhere and food stations not replenished. This establishment needs some serious management and a detailed process to meet the high standard that the hotel manages to achieve.

Whilst staying at the Crown Spa hotel we utilised the Taste Restaurant for our evening meals. There were a good variety of dishes to choose from and we weren't disappointed with any of the meals. They were good quality and artfully made. A bit pricey, though, yet, because of the quality, were worth it.

The main meals were served and then the starter came ?The Sirloin steak was tasteless and resembled boot leather.Onion rings ordered, Still waiting. All the food tasted of a dodgy oil ?Cannot blame the waiting staff for the poor service, Every one has to learn somewhere, But where was the experience ?The bottle of Shiraz reasonably priced, The Rose unpalatable.£70 Down the pan and a walk up to the local Sainsbury's to get some snacks.

I came here with my boyfriend and his parents for 2 meals while staying at The Crown Hotel and Spa. The service we had by staff was very good. They were very attentive and even some of the staff who appeared to be new, were apologetic even for the slightest of errors so we didn't mind. All 4 of our meals on both night were delicious from start to finish. The wine we had was to die for as well. The nicest Shiraz we have tasted in a long time!

Went for lunch - was expecting decent light lunch and had coffee and smoked salmon sandwiches with cream cheese . Only a smidgen of the latter but good salmon - served with dressed leaves and crisps. Coffee fine The service was not great ... I waited for acknowledgement whilst the waiter fiddled with the till - really he should have been able to multi task to say at least hello. I was ready to order the sandwiches when paninis with a portion of lovely looking fries came out to be delivered. I said to Dad would you prefer a panini since it's hot - the waiter interjected - oh you can only have hotfood if you eat in the restaurant ! Moving Dad would have been a bit of a challenge so we did not bother . I could not for the life of me see why a portion of chips could not be served where we were in the bar - but there you go - probably some stupid Health and Safety at Work ruling, The next bizarre thing was to be asked if I wanted sugar for the coffee.. I said what a strange thing to ask ... The waiter said well we won't bring over if you don't .,, I m unclear if this was in case we pinched the sugar or if to save him the trouble! As I said to him , I ve never been asked that before the coffee arrived - still I guess it did save him walking over with it - though to confirm I did not plan to half inch it The next thing I asked was what time do you stop saving food on an evening -a friend was booked to stay for 2 evenings and we planned to eat at least a snack after the Opera performance finished at 10 on a Sunday evening - 4 star hotel or not I was shocked to be told nothing after 9 by the same waiting team This seemed pretty poor and was not born out by the menu which stated 24 hour sandwiches. I also visited the reception to have confirmed that sandwiches would be possible So food was ok but the service was more faulty towers than 4 star Disappointing as we are locals - for many years we paid gym membership and really we want our local businesses to thrive . Staff like this do not help a business sell their wares - 4 star hotel but if you want to train staff look to experts like pipe and glass who young team excel and I m pretty sure they are not paid more

We have stayed many times at the hotel and booked in for meals, we have never had any problems and I'm in a wheelchair and they organise chair out of the way and can't do enough for you. They recognise us now. We don't live local but like to come to Scarbrough. With me being disabled I know they can cater for me and we know what they have to offer me. I think all the staff are pleasant and always say hello and have a chat, not just with us but others who have never been before. The head waiter remembers our names, that shows some dedication considering how many must come through the hotel. I know our last name is a little unusual but he had another guest with the same surname and introduced us, which was nice. Last time we stayed an older couple was complaining because they asked for a reduced breakfast, I think the chef must of thought it didn't look much which to be fair it didn't, but this old guy complained they had not given him what he asked. They had give. Him extra bacon which was not a valid complaint really. I could understand if it was the other way round. I felt sorry for the young waitress serving them. I guess it takes all sorts. The young girl apologised and took away his plate and swiftly gave him what he wanted. It was. Fresh plate of food. The guy had put sauce on his plate, that's how I know. They also cater for special diets.

I ate here with relatives who were staying at the hotel. Sadly I don't think any of us could recommend the restaurant. We were all a bit taken aback by the low quality of the service: no drinks were offered when we placed our food order - we had to request a wine list and wait another 20 minutes to order from that (only by asking a second waiter); one particular waiter came across as rather rude; the younger ones were friendlier but seemed to be struggling, bringing the wrong order to our table and misunderstanding drinks orders. We must have been served by 5 different people throughout the evening - not very well organised. The food didn't make up for it - we all felt like we could have cooked better at home. My fish was over seasoned and burnt in places. Nothing was particularly awful, just very average.

The staff were there when you needed them but melted into the background when you didn't. The atmosphere was lovely & intimate. The food was delicious & excellent value. We ordered from the 3 course set menu, which included a small glass of wine for £29. Wonderful evening.

Having eaten at this restaurant many times before and made a previous review about the unpredictability of this restaurant, I am pleased to report that they seem to have got it right at last. The menu is interesting, the food cooked and presented perfectly and the waiter service has improved considerably. We ate here twice during our stay at the hotel and both times it was good. Only one gripe and that is the lack of bread before or during the meal. I would prefer them to offer the bread and make a cover charge for it, which is normal practice in most restaurants, than offer none at all. However, all in all a good experience.

I decided to eat at the Taste Restaurant, which is at the Crown Spa Hotel in Scarborough, after attending the Crown Spa Health Club, also at the Hotel. This makes having something to eat at the restaurant and cafe bar, after a workout, both convenient and reasonably priced. This was my first visit, which was enjoyable thanks to the welcoming staff and food which was cooked beautifully, visually appealing and tasted delicious. A bottle of cold water is served at the table. I enjoyed a couple of cold pints of Fosters during my meal. My main was grilled chicken with salad and hand cut chips. This was followed by an indulgent chocolate roulade. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. I would recommend a visit to the Taste Restaurant and look forward to enjoying another tasty bite to eat!
