If you like lumpy mashed potato, tasteless veg and watery gravy, you will like this place. I have never seen a more sorry looking carvery in my life.

We were staying local for a family reunion so chose this pub for its walk to location. The staff were friendly, the pub was dated but clean, our main reason for the visit was the food which was dreadful, I couldn’t cut the beef, the yorkshire pudding was stale, the broccoli and cauliflower tasted funny and resembled the smell of cowpats. We barely ate anything and the meal cost almost £40 for 4 people. We definitely won’t be returning.

Appallingly poor! Over half the menu not available but we weren't told this until we'd gone to the bar to order our food. Mash was bland and lumpy, tinned veg and the poor lamb shank was burnt and tough - like Tring to eat an old boot. Pub looks tired, dirty and dated. Cobwebs in the windows and surfaces....we will not be returning. This place should be a goldmine but missing a trick somewhere!

My Wife and I booked and ate dinner here whilst touring the area. I was initially put off by the scruffy appearance of the building and car park but on entry the interior was not bad. There was a very pleasant and helpful lady who greeted us and took our order. My Wife decided to have the mixed starter for 2 as a main meal as she likes to graze on her food. I opted for the chilli. When the meals arrived the "starter" was immense with scampi, chicken, mushrooms and other food. My chilli was well spiced and well cooked. My Wife could not finish her plate but really enjoyed trying. With 2 pints of Theakstons Best Bitter the bill was just over £25.

We have eaten here many times over the years and the food has been absolutely spot on! Called this month and can honestly say the place has gone downhill in every way. The tables were absolutely filthy which is quite a concern ,particularly with what we are going through with covid 19. We wiped ours down with antibac wipes. But I have never been served such appalling food, ever as what we were served here. All the meals were luke warm when we got them. The shepherds pie consisted of boiled ,tasteless mince topped with mash made from overboiled watery potatoes,I couldn't eat it it was so bad. Some people in our group had chips and said they tasted peculiar, like they had been fried with a mixture of different tasting foods. The vegetables were frozen and the gravy powdered instant mix. We tried to book at a few local pubs and couldnt get in,but had no problem here and I now know why.

I read the reviews before we went and was hoping all of those terrible reviews were not a reality. How wrong I was... All I wanted was a roast dinner that was fresh and tasty. How hard can it be to chop and cook some fresh vegetables? All of the vegetables were frozen and the gravy was tasteless. The meat was poor quality, overcooked - I was hoping for a medium, well done beef. Overall, Gordon Ramsey would have a feel day there, I was bitterly disappointed.

The staff, the food and locals all enjoying a post lockdown pint were very friendly. The food though basic pub fare was cooked and presented very nicely, and the portion size was generous. We were kept awake all night by two groups of campers blasting out music and making a noise with no regard for anyone else. There was no separate male and female toilet and wash facilities. There were no facilities like hand sanitiser around the campsite tap, and entrance to the pub, nor any signs advising social distancing taking into account the Covid 19 pandemic. The campsite owners, although friendly, did not chase us up for payment, so we could have easily camped there and not paid, although we did out of honesty. The campsite was close to Bempton Cliffs though, which was a plus, and in walking distance from Reighton beach. The bad points far outweigh the good, especially problem with noisy campers throughout the night. We don't recommend this campsite. We won't be coming here again.

The Dotterel Inn is one hidden gem we arrived at the campsite and was met by a lovely gentleman (Carl) who showed us the ropes and said children/dogs are more than welcome in the pub. We set up camp had tea then went for a nightcap in the Dotterel we were met with a warm welcome from again Carl & his wife Julie what a lovely couple couldn’t do enough for you they asked if we had settled in ok and said if you need anything just give us a call they couldn’t have made us feel more welcome.Whilst we were staying there it was my friend’s daughter’s birthday which happened to be on a Sunday (so we booked in for Sunday lunch). Food was amazing I would recommend this pub to anyone. The quality and quantity was superb still made room for pudding though. We asked if it was ok to put some b/day banners up and bring a cake not only did they say yes but they decorated an area for her which she loved. This gem of a pub/restaurant is certainly family and dog friendly. Food is served from 12 noon to 8 pm we will certainly be back.

We spotted the pub in passing and returned after our trip to the beach, Upton arriving there was no toilet roll in the ladies, this was then stocked up once the waitress overheard me mention it. I ordered lasagne it arrived still frozen with a hairy side salad, we took the plate back to the bar and the server responded with “what do you want me to do?” She was then going to cook me another one until I said I would rather have a cavery, I went to the cavery was served the fattiest piece of pork alongbwith lashings on the servers snot which he was wiping on his hands whilst he was slicing my meat. The mashed potato was more like crushed potato and the roast potatoes well they were on another level I left my meal. Whilst waiting for everyone else to finish I was looking round and my gosh that place is suppose to be under new management I don’t know who these new managers are but they need to hire a cleaner the cob webs hanging round the windows covered in hundreds of flies I couldn’t get out of there quick enough I’ve never ever eaten at such a dirty place in my whole life. The table was dirty when we arrived and we were served supermarket multipack fruit drinks for the kids which is actually illegal! My Pepsi glass was filthy will never be returning to this hell hole!

New York chicken came with no bacon on and chicken was cold in middle, they took it back and changed it for a Carvery and that was a poor effort. Then the gammon came with garlic mushrooms on rather than flat ones and I’m sure the tomato sauce was not Heinz but a cheap version in the bottle. PLENTY of better eateries around that serve better food at cheaper prices. Will not be going again

Decide to try The Dotterel Inn on Sunday Before bank holiday. Wondered why it was empty at such a busy time and was a bit worried but we had tried other places so decided to stay. We were very pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of our Sunday roast dinners. When one of our friends tried her roast potato and commentiedon how good they were they said that if she wanted some more she could and brought her a dish with 6 halves in.wheb we asked For dessert she gave us alike back board with the list of desserts. Before we decide the cook came out and told us she had chocolate pudding and sticky toffe pudding as well. Our friend said she would like the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream instead of custard there was no problem. She asked if they could put a lot on half joking they said they would and did. Anything we asked for, they bent over backwards to help. Look out for this pub. It is set back from the road near the roundabout which has a statue Of a shepherd with his dog and sheep. Will ptobably come here again. In the entrance way there Is a sign which says “” come in like” (a picture of Stan Laurel) “and leave like” (picture of Oliver Hardy”.

Even if they only have a small area dedicated to those with pets it would suffice, after all our doggies live inside our homes with us so they are used to behaving properly! My husband, daughter and I stopped at the Dotterel inn for a bite of lunch. My husband had the steak pie, daughter had sausages, mash, peas and gravy and I had the gammon steak. They were all home made, huge and tasted amazing. The price was very reasonable too - £32 for lunch including two pints and a fruit shoot. I would highly recommend stopping in. They do a all day roast dinner for £6.95. Going to be coming back for it.

Stayed at reighton sands for the weekend, came to the dotterel for evening meal at 7.00 pm with family of 5, the landlord/ barman wasn't very welcoming didn't even crack a smile or speak, we waited an hour and half for our meal, the waitress did apologise when she heard us complain about the wait, she said it would be a further 5 minutes, when it eventually came 15 minutes later the cook said she was sorry for the wait as she was in the kitchen on her own, when my sister said to the cook that the landlord was very rude for not coming to us to apologise the cook just walked away without saying anything, when we was leaving after the meal we never even had a thank you or goodnight from the miserable landlord, sorry but we will never be returning there ever again, worst experience we've ever had

Went with friends for sunday lunch. Good home cooked food. Very tasty. I had small portion (which was big enough for me). Lovely big Yorkshire puddings. We were all too full for dessert. Nice day out.

Can't praise it enough. Today's choices were Yorkshire pudding with braised beef. Homemade steak pie and a tuna pasta bake see pictures just delicious. Drinks and food all excellent value and quality.

We needed a quick lunch on our way home from holiday and called in at the Dotterel. The food was very good, served quickly and a good price. The pub itself was very quiet (midweek lunch time) so no atmosphere, but maybe different in the evening. It had obviously been refurbished recently and was nice and tidy. The toilets were clean but in need of an update. Outside was rather run down and in need of a tidy up to make this place more appealing.

We visited the pub after a long day at the beach and we were met with a welcoming smile and good food. We were a little unsure when we parked in the car park as to whether we had made a mistake but don't let the exterior put you off. Food was lovely and we had plenty. All reasonably priced and the pub is dog friendly too. Will be calling again after a long day on the beach at Hunmanby Gap.

We had stopped many times under previous ownership. Then it was shut for some considerable time. So we were really pleased to see it had reopened and stopped in for lunch. The Landlord greeted us but a warm welcome it was not. A smile wasn't even on offer. Undeterred we enquired where to sit, anywhere came the reply. Still no smile. I ordered baked potato with chilli. Hubby had small BBQ spare ribs. Good portions, and very tasty. Came reasonably quickly. At least we got a warmer welcome from the waitress. We still didn't get a smile or if everything was okay with the meal when we went to pay. Will we go back. Not in a hurry. Quite a contrast to our previous experiences when we visited. Oh well, you can't win em all.

Stopped for a family meal whilst on holiday. The pub has no atmosphere which seems to be a reflection of the barman. The food was awful and when we told the waitress, she didn't seem to care. A lot of the food seemed to be tinned or frozen and put on a plate. The portions are good but the standard of food is terrible. I won't be going back again.

I used to visit here as a child up to the age of 14, on my caravan holidays at Reighton Sands as it just round the corner. Back then it was great pub and good food. I am now 32 and visited last week with my grandparents (they visited 3 times in 10 days) as I was staying at Primrose valley. The food was gorgeous, I highly recommend the steak pie it was great value for money and home made. The pub hasn't changed all that much in teh past 17 years they still have the same ornaments and the big bear outside. Although the pool tables are no longer there. This is great pub, which I have fond memories off. I will be definitely be visiting again!! staff were very friendly and polite :)

Arrived on Sunday evening after arranging a motorhome stop over on the car park. Had a pleasant meal and good conversation with the landlady who also fed the dog with pieces of meat. Had a good enjoyable evening with well kept cask ale. Called in for excellent sandwich before continuing on our journey. Would recommend as a stopover if arranged over the phone with the landlord/lady.

8 of us went for tea, 4 adults, 4 kids, loads of choice on the menu and very reasonably priced...especially when you see the size of the portions. The pub was clean and spacious, plenty of tables. Our food arrived promptly and was perfect. The kids meals were a very good size, children's Sunday dinner was available daily with a choice of meats. All the meals we ordered were huge, none of our party managed to clear their plates, so unfortunately we didn't get to the desserts, we will definitely be returning and saving room for pudding.Thank you for a lovely family meal

Went to primrose valley for a holiday and decided to call for lunch with my parents, fiancé and child as my folks decided to spend the day with us. It was very quiet when we entered and after ordering drinks at the bar we then decided to order food for all 5 of us. 3 of us had steak pie which was fab though I do prefer full pastry compared to just a pastry top but it was full of tender steak, the chips were lovely and the peas were also nice. My dad ordered the mixed grill which was huge for the cost and again he thoroughly enjoyed it. Lastly was my sons meal of sausage, chips and beans. Being 3 he was too excited about his grandparents being there so we ended up with a doggy bag.Definitely great value for money and we will definitely be returning when we go back to the coast

Went here with friends and was looking forward to a nice home cooked meal! The meal came out looking ok but when I went to get the sauce bottle there was mould on the top of it. When I told the landlord he didn't seem too bothered. The waitress came and asked how the meals were and when we mentioned the bottle we got a response saying it was pepper from when the girl who was filling up the bottles. Pepper isn't green?!! Still no apology from any of the staff. Unfortunately this really put all of us of the food and will not be returning.
