A lovely pub serving a great pint of Staropramen, often our first stop when we visit Whitby. It has a great view of the harbour. Only eaten here once, we had fish and chips they were OK but there are far better places in Whitby to have fish and chips.

As a retired couple, this isn’t really the place for us. It would probably suit families and the younger generation. It can get quite noisy, especially at weekends as they have DJ’s playing up to 1am. I had rib eye steak, which was okay, just as I asked for, but the chips were not great and I probably didn’t eat half of them. My wife had a prawn cocktail which she really enjoyed. There are stairs up to the restaurant, so this not suit some.

We read some mixed reviews about this place before I booked, but we had a good meal and experience. I had the mussels and my husband had the calamari. They had a good amount of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Both our meals were decent. Nice music playing, chilled vibes, the cocktail menu was HUGE and went down a treat. If you’re looking for 5 star Michelin dining, this isn’t the place for you. If you want a nice, chilled eatery by the bay, you’ll enjoy this place. It was one of our favourite meals of our visit.

Lively atmosphere, great views. Does the basics on food well. Dog friendly. Staff seem a little over it. Expensive on the drinks and extras. Food overall very poor. Everything was cooked in burnt fat which left a bitter unpleasant taste. Very poor quality cooking for a bill over £100 for 3. We certainly wouldn't mind if it was worth it. But it was greasy, cold hard chips. All fish cooked in same burnt fat. Disgusting!! Not even worth it at half or quarter of the price. Seating arrangements considering we booked and paid £30 deposit was very very poor. Save yourself the money and avoid this place. On the upside dogs are welcome. Don't feed your dogs this rubbish though. Avoid an expensive vets bill.

Clump of hair in the food. Whilst initial impressions were good, after my mother walked back to her accommodation to sit down and enjoy this, all was ruined by a ball of hair. Such a let down for her 🙁 Had to edit this, my mother finally managed to return to complain , felt it was not taken seriously and they actually found it amusing. So I guess the service matches the quality of food.

Visited on Friday and was appalled with how I was spoken to by a member of staff, he had fair hair that was balding, and a white shirt on so I assume he was the manager. The staff member served me my drink and accidentally spilt it mainly on me, but also my partner and dog, I was soaked. She was apologetic and cleaned it up before getting me a replacement beer that she spilt. I spoke to the staff member who told me that she apologised and replaced my drink. It was not their policy to give free drinks. I did say I got the pint I paid for, but I didn’t pay to be covered in beer, and soaking wet. Let alone being away from home with clothes I couldn’t wear, a dog that needed washing and having to walk back to my accommodation soaking and smelling of beer. Wherever I have worked before, or if I have seen people have drinks spilt on them. It has always been common curiosity to provide a free drink as way of an apology to the guests it has affected. Aside from being a business, as a human being, he should have bent over backwards to make sure the visitors were happy. I’m just shocked of the attitude of the guy. Accidents happen but it’s the way you deal with them that makes the business.

My friends and I had lunch at the Abbey Wharf on Thursday 8 May 2025. What an unexpected surprised. Wonderful layout both indoors and outdoors. Many would steer away from the Abbey Wharf for a special evening meal for two however please rethink that if that’s you! We’ve eaten and drank here many times and at different stages of the day. Whether you’re looking for a homely meal or snack with a drink in the day or a higher class meal on an evening this is the place to visit in my opinion. A varied and comprehensive menu gives you the choice to select a meal for the occasion, on this occasion I chose the pan fried Halibut and it was truly amazing absolutely demolishing the more expensive salmon I had at the Marine the night after. With multiple styles of seating and meal types you have all the choices you need to style the night for your tastes. Even when ordering drinks you have choices you can choose to use the self service draft options or walk to the bar. You can choose to order via the really useful app on your phone or for the nicer experience you can book the mezzanine where you can get your drinks via table service. Going back to the food my wife choose a more casual meal of two smaller plates one being fried goats cheese which she loved and the other being cheesy chips which were very nice also. Downsides: The only negative for this restaurant on our many visits is just how busy it gets, depending on the weather outside it can be Impossible to get a table sometimes so if your going for a special meal then do book in advance via the app. Key Takeaways: Good Menu Choice Varied styles of seating from traditional to contemporary and then the more relaxed. Great staff including the security who offered to close doors and windows when it dropped a little colder without even being asked which was very nice. Would I return? That’s a big fat yes I would book time after time and it’s become a regular haunt for both meals and just for a midday drink to escape the shops.

Lovely views and I would have wanted nothing more but to enjoy it and leave them the best review. But upon entering you get hit by a strong and overpowering air freshener smell. Would have been pleasant if it wasn't that strong. The food is not the cheapest, especially the steaks, so when you are paying £33 you are expecting the absolute best and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately that wasn't the case as our rare steak came out medium which was disappointing. At that price you would expect it would come with a sauce but it didn't and whilst ordering my partner completely missed them as they were on a completely different page of the menu. All aside I was hoping the staff would be more cheerful, selling the Yorkshire hospitality. This again was not the case here. Atmosphere was flat and gloomy like the misty weather.

Having been a customer for years, my recent Easter holiday return to this Whitby establishment with my daughters was severely disappointing. The staff and management displayed a distinct lack of customer care skills, leaving us deeply dissatisfied. To be frank, I would now prefer the offerings of Gregg's or McDonald's. The frozen, tasteless mussels we were served were truly dreadful. It seems this restaurant relies solely on its beautiful harbour views, while treating its customers poorly. I strongly advise others to AVOID this place.

Food was absolutely awful. Cod was so bland it tasted like water, batter was not crispy one bit and soaked in oil. The amount of chips you got with the adult meal was shocking, about 20 chips. For the amount it costs you certainly expect a much higher quality of food. I do not recommend.

First, I looked at the menu and thought, "Damn it!" . However, when the food arrived, I was surprised that it was the largest fish and chips I had ever eaten in England! ! Very filling and delicious ☺️ It's a tourist destination, so I wonder if it's appropriate. If you do not choose the time, it will take more than 30 minutes to serve your meal. There were 6 people, and the food for 4 people was served first, and by the time the 4 people had finished eating, the remaining 2 people were served, which was quite an interesting time difference.

Balcony with a great view over the harbour and out to the sea beyond. We had kippers… absolutely fabulous, so tasty and the smokehouse that produces them is just up the road! The fish market is also just at the other side of the harbour… all local produce. The menu is great… a good selection including vegetarian options! Must come again to sample the mornay and the chowder! Great place well worth a visit! Back again! This time Mornay for me with new potatoes… absolutely delicious! For my partner it was the monk fish and he loved it! We came in the evening this time… a different ambience but was great. We had a great meal here over the weekend. The food was so fresh and there were such great portions for the price. The great thing is that you are able to order and pay from your table so you don't have a big wait to be served. The only downside is that it was very noisy and there were a few dogs inside that were barking and as they were so busy the food was a little slow to come out. Refused an offer for another dish as if first ain't good whats the rest like, took the offer offer a partial refund, as technically I didn't like it and it wasn't the chefs fault except for the gravy and swimming potatoes and got back a half refund, was expecting at least a tenner or better still £12 as it was £15.95. Completely contrasting meals today. Two scampi and chips - “best scampi we have ever had”. Chicken nuggets kids meal supposedly suitable for children up to 14 but tiny portion so not the case - get more in a happy meal. Really let down by the gluten free cod. Really really greasy - oil poured out of it when I cut into it and was completely tasteless which might be expected of gluten free food ten years ago but not in 2024. The fish was so oily I had to put it on my napkin which was saturated in no time. Not sure I would recommend this as a gluten free destination as a result.
