Called here for lunch while visiting Whitby for the day with my family - and I’m so glad we did - we found a table an browsed the menu - absolutely love the self serve beer pumps :) they do have a bar you can order from but the novelty of serve your self is fun - all our meals ordered arrived soon after ordering an were all piping hot - bacon cheese burgers I’m told were really lovely an the Mornay packed with fish an a lovely sauce an crumble topping - the chips were to die for proper chips not some nasty cheap frozen efforts - we left full an contented will be back when visiting again :)

Don’t let the few poor reviews put you off visiting. We booked very last minute, to dine there last Monday evening. I then checked the reviews and was dubious. I’m so glad we ignored the poor reviews and went, as we had the most delicious meal - the fish pie was the best I have tasted and my husband also loved his haddock morney. Washed down with a Peach Bellini and refreshing pint. (You can even pour your own). It’s a large and modern restaurant with lovely views over the river and great music playing. Don’t miss out and enjoy your evening at Abbey Wharf.

The thing about visiting Whitby, the sea air makes your legs wobbly. We had to sit outside side on a terrace with a lovely view and must have stayed too long. Sure enough, when I got up to leave, my legs had gone wobbly 😭. They have all the usual beers here and served lovely meals. Great staff and friendly service. Just be careful if you sit outside!

Absolutely awful. We went here on supposed good reviews. It was hard to get seated for 9 of us but we squashed into a table borrowing chairs from elsewhere. The staff wasn't interested in seating us as the place is packed and you can take it or leave it. They do work hard. Whilst our meals all came up around the same time they were barely Luke warm (which tells me not enough waiting staff) I don't like cold food but didn't send it all back as the hassle to get seated in the first place had an adverse affect on the nice lunch it should have been. The fish was so minimal in the batter (I should have had fish fingers had they had some! And the last 3 Scampi out of its little dish were swimming in oil that I took, the (not quite an inch) tiny bit of meat out of the batter save drinking the oil. I had saved for this for months to take my adult kids out to lunch in Whitby a total waste of money for what it was - but kept my mouth shut so as not to spoil the day!

Absolutely disgusting customer service, especially from the bar manager. Ordered a long island iced tea, what consists of 5 spirits mixed with coke and lemon juice! Couldn't taste any alcohol what so ever so took it back asked for it remaking, but they point blank refused! Asked for money back was refused again! Her excuse was she apparently watched her make it and knew it was made right! They refused to try it but still said there was nothing wrong with it?! We will never be returning here due to the attitude of the bar manager and staff. However I would definitely recommend Macy Brown's for cocktails as they know how to make a long island iced tea.

My wife and I love Whitby. It's been one of our favourite places for decades. Probably because it's on the other side of the bridge from where we arrive, we've visited the Abbey Wharf on very few occasions. There's so many good Fish & Chip places, we've usually eaten before we reach AW, which is a shame really because when we have climbed the stairs, it's always been a pleasurable experience. Having eaten (not successfully), we fancied a coffee with a view and ascended the stairs and made our way to the bar in AW. I didn't notice whether the guy who served us was wearing a name tag, so I didn't catch his name. I think I may recognise him being a large chap with long hair and a sizeable beard and, more importantly, an excellent sense of humour. Whilst I 'bantered' with the Viking behind the bar, my wife found a table outside with a great view of the harbour. I was very pleasantly surprised at the cost, £5.20 for two generous white Americano's with a free biscuit. Excellent value, excellent view and excellent service. I just need to devise a route to arrive at AW via another direction to eliminate food competitors so I can sample their F& C's next time.

Large venue for groups with good view if you're sitting by the windows. The fish pie was OK. The lamb burger and veggie curry were a long way below par. The standard fish & chips and scampi based dishes seemed to be well received though. Perhaps offering a smaller menu and doing those things really well would help. Service wasn't great. Seemed to be only one server covering a large number of tables.

The self-service was a right giggle. My only gripe was we got drinks, and then there was nowhere to sit. Individuals sat on the balcony with no drink, but on their phone, was infuriating. The up stairs was reserved only. I'm not sure how that worked. A lady outside waiting for her daughter asked us to sit with her. A fantastic hour sat in the sun with some great conversation.

We managed to navigate the food and drinks app by using the barcode system that was shown on the table. Food and drink arrived in good time. The food was good. Varied food choices on the menu. Pub grub. Staff were kept busy serving and clearing. Dogs are allowed indoors. It's quite noisy with it being a big place with hard surfaces that allows sound to bounce about but not off-putting. I would recommend this place for dining and drinking. Especially when the weather is warmer, then you can sit on the balcony and admire the view across the harbour. It's a very busy place, so hats off to the staff for keeping up with catering for their customers.

The drinks came after about 10 minutes and food about 30. Suggest if you want drinks quicker order at the bar. Food was good, hot any plentiful. My only criticism would be that there were far too many dogs in the place, most well behaved but some (in my view) too big to be in an eatery. Overall decent venue

A busy, noisy place full of families/kids which is great if that's what you're looking for but not if you're a couple looking for a nice quiet meal out. We both ordered the fish morney, from the specials menu, but were sadly disappointed. There was far too much bread crumbs on the top which soaked up what little sauce there was making it quite stodgy. It tasted fishy but apart from the odd tiny prawn you could not distinguish any type of fish as it had been shredded into tiny pieces, so no nice chunks of fish. The chips were cooked well, but not the best I've had. The restaurant itself is in a good location right on the side of the river, with seating outside on the balcony, if it's sunny. Alas when we went it had been raining so all the chairs were wet through. It's a large, bright open plan type restaurant with alot of seating on 2 levels, you have to climb a short flight of stairs to enter, but there is a chair lift for wheelchair users or those who cannot climb stairs. It's self ordering, so you either order from the bar or download the app. There was also a separate ice cream bar which again you could order from or use the app. I also noticed a self service row of beer pumps, I'm assuming that you enter your card details then it allows you to pour your own, which saves you queuing up at the bar when it's really busy. There were a few hand pump beers on, at thd bar, including Doom Bar as well as the usual lagers/ciders etc. Unfortunately it's not somewhere I would go again, too much like a family pub selling typical underwhelming pub grub.

Exceptionally accommodating restaurant. There is a platform stair lift to take you to the first floor restaurant. The staff were friendly and well trained in the use of the lift, asking all the way if I was comfortable and ready to travel, makes such a change. Upstairs indoors is all flat, the balcony seating involves a couple of steps here and there but the staff are helpful if you need them. The order is placed via an app and was quick service especially as it was a hot July day and they were very busy, they were happy to make changes to the oder to accommodate my eating preferences. We took our small dog and was surprised to see that they had a dog menu too so Dora didn't miss out on her fish and chip dinner. Access to the restaurant is not disabled friendly, eg cobbles and no disabled parking nearby but the staff were fantastic in making our stay trouble free. Easy access Disabled toilet. Fab views over the water.

The food was okay but the lack of table service for orders and drinks isn't ideal.

Nothing noteworthy to be honest. It’s OK. But not great. Fish and chips were fine, you can’t mess that up really, but the fish pie was disappointing, loads of cheesy mash and very little fish. Ah well. Will probably never be back.

Food was excellent! I had the mussels in wine cream sauce and the seafood Mornay (cod, haddock, prawns) - totally tasty. Great variety on the menu. The inside is laid out like a fish market/warehouse - rustic and rough but comfortable. Nice views of the harbor. Added plus of seeing the rowers.

Absolutely perfect food, and a wonderful view over the water. Prompt and friendly service. The curry sauce will blow away, and I didn't know it was possible to make mushy peas better than anyone else!

Food is normally good here but our last visit was a bit disappointing!! My meal, a small portion of home made fish cake was nice but my partner who chose chowder didn’t finish it! It was basically a bowl of what tasted like parsley sauce with about 5 small mussels in shells, one small piece of smoked haddock and not a prawn in sight!!! It was exactly the same as the sauce poured over a fish dish we had there previously!! As I say, food is mostly good but avoid the chowder!! The restaurant is lovely, good bar and if you sit on the balcony on a sunny day it’s lovely!

Normal food, but not worth its price. Very nice and large place, but careless, disorganized and rude service. Very short wait but we had to ask 4 different waiters for the sauces before they arrived... and they arrived when we had finished eating...

Haven't been here since my uni days, but it's just as cosy as I remember. Snake oil on tap, and good pub Sunday food.
