Disappointing. Sat in the bar under the TV, promised when we sat down they would turn it down but they didn't. When prompted they changed the channel to one that was louder. Meal took nearly an hour to be served, then they just brought part of it despite me selecting it to be served together. Veggie lasagna was unpleasant, garlic bread quoted as being ciabatta wasn't, it was like those slices you get at Iceland, 10 for £1 but they charged over £3 for 2. Overall food was uninspiring.

Booked in advance and was placed on a table under a TV making it difficult to talk. We asked for the volume to be lowered all that happens was the channel changed to a channel where the sound was louder. Ordered via the Ap drinks arrived promptly but the food took fifty minutes to arrive. Food was god but no check back to ensure it was. Shame it was a disappointing start to our holiday.

Had a terrible experience when we visited this week, myself ,partner and little girl were down visiting family and we all decided to go here for dinner. There was 4 adults and 2 children This was a terrible decision as all the food came out cold and way overcooked. When the server brought out my little girls food she dropped some on the floor as she approached the table and she never apologized or offered to get more she just handed us the plate and walked away. A dog at another table ended up eating it and we had to ask another server about getting more food. The original server who dropped the food had a terrible attitude and the whole experience was not enjoyable, complete waste of money as we couldn't even finish our meals.

Went on a Monday grill night would have liked to have a mixed grill but they were sold out so I had the last rump steak it was okay and the service was good but what's the point of a grill night with no stock

The food was slow service but nice,it took 40 minutes for our starters to come and then another 20 minutes after our starters for our mains can't complain about the 20 minute wait on the mains but the 40 minute wait is bad

Visited for my son's birthday meal last night had booked months in advance. On arrival we were a little early the table I had booked was apparently not ready and we had to wait in the bar area with 4 children and a man kicking off at staff felt very unsafe there were tables available that would have been for us to use but the barman was adement that our table was t ready he told us to stay in bar area or sit at a big table and wait (we could have happily used that table) few moments later and the table was free so we sat and ordered our meals on the app. We were so disappointed when they arrived. Half roast chicken was ultra dry and stringy, fish and chips dry and reheated, tikka sizzler arrived barely warm let alone sizzling. The other meals of kids sausage and chips was ok just barely heated, kids pizza and the lasagne had spent too long in microwave was hard and crispy inside. Piled high with salad to cover the woeful offering. Again another arguement broke out in the bar area and wasn't dealt with the first seemed fueled by bar staff, actually was worried about safety due to the kids around these arguments and spats. Only came out to celebrate a birthday. Seems a very rough pub not a family establishment would avoid for the food alone not upto standard wouldn't return vast amount of training needed for staff and the kitchen staff and maybe a security on the door to defuse situations.

Nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous customer service and dealt with our autistic son superbly. Only 4/5 star simply because the steak was not cooked as requested but you get that at every pub you go for, for a steak. No pub knows how to cook a steak rare, medium/rare! Seriously, this place was a great family pub. And for once these days, customer service actually seems to matter.

Very nice meal and good value. Both chose the tuesday 'mix it up' offer which is excellent value, loads of choice & very well presented.

Great value for money. Tasty breakfasts, with clean plates all round. The children’s breakfast went down a treat with my daughter too!

This was a great experience. Despite getting my partners first order wrong, they quickly and happily provided a replacement. The staff were polite friendly and extremely efficient. Highly recommended.

We go to the Byways most Wednesday evening. It's Curry Night🙂. The food is always good, prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly.

I was a bit worried about going after reading some of the reviews. Thank goodness we did. The food was good and the staff were so nice. The prices are amazing as well.

We all had a fantastic meals, Gamon, Chicken, Scampi. The service was brilliant thank you Katie, we will be returning soon.

Natasza and nicola were lovely and friendly serving us! Great food for such a reasonable cost 2 meals for £11.49 cant go wrong, johnny and aaron were the chefs and everything was lovely! Got a chocolate fudge cake dessert which was enough to share between 2 of us! Me and my partner come all the time and will continue to come as the quality is really good!

Served by Nic who was friendly and polite. Food served by Nic again came quickly and was at a nice temperature to eat and nicely presented.

Even though they weren't really busy we had to wait a long time for our food . I had a Sunday lunch and had to ask for gravy and a yorkshire pudding. Meat was very tough. Other tables were leaving food. Won't be going again.

Vested today to watch the football and have dinner with family. The pub gladly put the match on for us to watch and excellent service for food and the price was great too

It has been a while since we were last here but it was much better this time on the whole. The pub is clean and has a good atmosphere. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and really enjoyed it. Hubby ordered the chicken new yorker but this wasn't so good, it was 2 pieces of chicken instead of a breast which was dry and he struggled to find the bacon it should have been topped with. We ordered using the app and our drinks and food arrived in a decent amount of time given that it is a busy Friday night. This pub isn't far from where we are staying so will definitely be back. Popped down for some lunch and we were wlecomed on arrival by the froendly staff. It was pretty quiet when we came so we didnt have to wait for a table. Found some great deals on the menu and ordered through the app. Food & Drinks were brought over quickly and with a smile. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Overall this was a very pleasant visit and will definitely be coming again.

Absolutely love coming to the byways every time I come home to Scarborough. Such a cosy and warm feeling and a lovely atmosphere. Chris is always so nice and takes the time to make sure we’re happy with the food and drinks. Would recommend to anyone.

Here for just the weekend and realy enjoy dinner here this evening with the family food was 10/10 🙌

We went there before we went on to Bridlington with me son n his partner n we ordered a share combo dish chicken nuggets were lovely they were perfect not dry the outer was light n crispy n scampi was also the same lovely chips were lovely all in all the who combo dish was succulent n delicious The atmosphere was great full of people staff were polite n friendly all in a lovely place to go for a meal or otherwise.

we called in the byways from doncaster on our way to scarborough had lunch and a drink , just like to say we were met by the bar staff with a smile and ordered our food it was the best pub weve had in a long time everthing cooked to perfection the team are a credit to greene king keep up the great work we will call again

We are regular visitors to Byways as there is no other place that makes you feel so welcome .We visited yesterday for breakfast & were greeted by Christine who served our meal & was so attentive as always!! A very relaxing atmosphere.Its lovely that you never feel rushed like some places that want you "out " as soon as your plate is cleared. Have recommended to all our friends as the menu has so many choices & great weekly deals. Thank you Byways Deb & Nigel

Went for lunch here with my family a few weeks ago. They had a huge sign out front advertising their English breakfast yet had no chef and the kitchen was closed for breakfast. However the kitchen was opening for lunch, but it was below average at best. Mine was so bad I sent it back to the kitchen and said I didn’t want another chicken sandwich bringing out. I could tell whoever was in the kitchen wasn’t a chef and couldn’t do the basics. Was pointless waiting for another bad version of what I’d ordered. The staff were polite though and removed the cost of my meal. However no one was happy with their food, and myself even though I’d barely started my food before deciding I wasn’t going to eat anymore and my niece became ill within half hour of leaving the Byways. I’ve never been back, fine as just a pub but don’t eat there.

Excellent service and food. Sunday dinner was lovely and pudding chocolate torte was delicious 😋 Would highly recommend 👍

Just ate (Monday 19th Feb 24 5pm) here. The choice on the menu was brilliant. We both ordered Gammon. It was beautiful. What a fantastic meal. Great service. We used to come here a lot but it went disastrously downhill over the past year so we have been going to The Rosette instead, but whoever is in charge here now has really pulled it around. I really couldn't fault it... the food and the staff were brilliant. If you thought this place wasn't worth another look, take my advice and try it again. We'll be back.... probably next week. 10/10

During another mini break exploring Yorkshire we found this lovely Hungry Horse which was dog friendly which is a major plus for us.Atmosphere was lovely and the cleanliness of Byways is A1. Everyone was very friendly and definitely an improvement on other HH chains. Food was lovely although I have had better in other of the same chain. Steak was a little fatty and the chicken burger a little overcooked but the service and atmosphere more than made up for this . Thank you for a pleasant evening.😁

Wanted to drop on here and leave another outstanding review for the byways pub, its always a highlight of my day when I get to pop by and see the friendly staff who all go out of their way to ensure all guests are well taken care off. Special shout out to the bar staff Nat, Nat, jasmine, and of course the wonderful Charlotte who have all performed brilliantly this evening and made my experience here at byways as always an unforgettable one, much love and appreciation to you all and to all the byways team x

Visited as a group of 10 to celebrate a 50th birthday. Staff were helpful and at times patient with our group giving them time to choose drinks despite bar being busy. Food was decent, everyone enjoyed their meal and pub was clean and comfortable.

We come here quite frequently for a good quality, well priced breakfast. We have had lunch offers as well and not been disappointed. The staff are friendly and attentive. There are usually plenty of offers available and don't forget your Blue Light Card!

Easy to find, spacious free parking, well lit. Easy to find a table and great range of food. The value was fantastic with lots of offers and they also accept a Blue Light Card. The food arrived quickly and portion size was generous , well presented, hot and above all tasty. I had the local beer which I highly recommend ( Timothy Taylor's ) The layout was comfy, modern and warm. The man at the bar was courteous , friendly, very efficient. However , I scored them down on service due to only 2 people on, 1 at bar, 1 serving food so the queues built up and there was quite a wait at the bar, though, through no fault of the team on. It could have been caused by poor scheduling or a late illness.

the best nachos I've ever eaten. Delicious steak. Great starters. Overall, the food is delicious. Kudos to the chef!!! The only drawback is the lack of good steak knives.

Every time we go to the Byways Hungry Horse there is always a problem just lately, we waited nearly an hour for our food last time, today we have been sat now for over an hour with our grandaughter waiting for her lunch, do yourself a favour give the place a miss, we use to be regulars at the place but no longer, l can't believe how bad the service has become.

We arrived at 12:15, service at the bar was pretty slow. We ordered a sharer, main each and a dessert. Fast forward 75 minutes and we'd only had the sharer and main. We had to leave before the dessert. There were 5 tables around us that hadn't been cleaned, maybe if they had we'd of been served our mains earlier. The portion for the curry was also tiny, with very little beef. All in all I'd avoid. Staff levels are way to low!

Food was good ,took a bit of time to get served as busy, very noisy also as football game was on, dog friendly in two places with hard surfaces, plenty of parking,would recommend and return

Came in for my Lunch break from work and Chris from the bar was very friendly and helpful when recommending food options for me, I went with his recommendation and was very pleasantly surprised Christine was also very hospitable and friendly we had a good laugh and chat I felt very welcomed!

Just nipped in for breakfast this morning. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas inside. Ordered special breakfast and it was lovely. All hot and plenty of it. Not busy so that was nice. Nice friendly boy on the bar. Would definitely go again and would recommend it. Nipped to the loo on the way out and they were spotless.

The breakfast was very tasty and on a 2 for 1 offer, so even better. The only slight negative was that the toast was very doughy.

Where do I start ??? we came into your restaurant sat down on table 1 the the wife wanted a festive chocolate. When the gentleman at the bar told me that they have none available. So I went and told the wife and she asked me to ask for a deluxe, hot chocolate and when the hot chocolate came, they were just normal, hot chocolate, no cream, marshmallows, or flake. So my wife sent us back a kept man and it was absolutely freezing, so he swapped the wife for a cup of tea. The guy went away to get a teaspoon for the tea came back. The teaspoon was absolutely sticky. Then the starters came. It was a sharer starter and we asked for two sideplates what were dirty. So the young girl went away and brought us two clean ones. We finish the starter what was the average they took the plates away, and brought us our sizzlers if you can call them sizzlers. So again I called the manager and the lady by the time the manager came she changed the sizzlers what was discussing. So we went back to the bar where the manager really didn’t care sorry but I think some staff need more training how to present, food and customer service.

We visited recently for a late lunch and the menu options are fantastic for adults and children alike - very good and fast service and the food was tasty and cooked well - recommended for any time of the day and not too busy to spoil your privacy whilst eating - would go again for sure!!

9 of us went her on 2 occasions in one week. We were on holiday at Blue Dolphin. They were very accommodating and yhe staff were lovely

Went for Sunday breakfast there was only about three other parties in the pub yet it took 3/4hr before the food began to arrive and a simple plate of beans on toast being the last. I always try to be positive when placing reviews but in this instance I can't say anything good. We will not be going again

Food wasn't vert hot, sizzler plate had no sizzle, chips were cold and all looked a little bland and very poorly presented

I attended the byways tonight for tea with my two children and my family, the food was gorgeous, the restauraunt atmosphere was lovely, we served by meral who was so lovely and helped us with anything we needed to know or any issues we had (which weren't any) she gave us good recommendations as to what was really good on the menu to eat and her customer service was amazing couldn't fault her or restaurant, will definitely be returning again.

Saturday the 4th November 6 including 2 children was not busy 55 min wait on food .4 of the 6 meals was cold .we ordered 2 Super Special Chicken New Yorker The chicken was hard rubber but didn't seemed not cooked one of plates had food stuck to it not been cleaned properly. 1 of the meals wasCrown Of Burgers the burgers was burnt and hard .I spoken to the waitress but didn't seem to çare. Both of us that ate the chicken have been ill all weekend food poisoning I believe .being coming here for years never had a problem with pub before..

We go to Byways to watch the Champions League. Their food and drink is always good, and very reasonably priced.

You can't really go wrong with the Byways as it is a Greene King pub and I've never had a poor experience with Greene King. The staff are always super friendly and helpful, a great selection of food and drinks on the menu plus 2 for £6 on bottles you can't really complain. I only have two issues really and that is I ordered a chicken Jalfrezi when I went a while ago and it was really dry but that could have been a one off and there isn't a great selection of real ale on draught, whenever I go it's always the same, I am hoping for some guest ales or at least Icebreaker on tap. It's got a decent sized car park and it is only a few minutes walk from the train station and bus stops.

Booked a table for 12 .We all ordered our food at the bar after more than half a hour 2 meals arrived things missing of the plate no onion rings and mushrooms only half a dozen hard chips and half a egg cup full of peppercorn sauce what was extra .Steak was tough and undercooked .Meals came bit buy bit we had done with ours and still 6 hadn't eaten .One of us got there meal over a hour and half after everyone had done .Very poor meal and latterly was a mess on the plate. Definitely won't be going again .

Very friendly service from Meral. We ordered steak and it was inedible due to the quality of the steak - It was mostly gristle however Meral provided fantastic customer service and understood our frustration, replacing the meal with something else of our choosing for the same price point. The other meals ordered was all nice. The restaurant was clean and had a relaxed atmosphere. The children enjoyed the playground and colouring sheets provided.

Staff really polite and courteous. It was about a 40minute wait for the food due to only two chefs being on.

We visited on 27/09/23 as we are on holiday for a week a decided to go in sat outside as we have a large dog and was told by a friendly member of staff that our dog could go in so we did could not fault the service or food excellent

We were served by Martell Who looked after us well And it was a very enjoyable meal and not expensive either

Stopped here for lunch. Excellent value....2 full size meals for 11.50! I love the steak pie and my wife loved the chicken new yorker Plenty of parking, nice and clean with friendly staff including Meral who served us. Will come again when in the area

Family lunch for 10 of us. Food was fine if a little slow coming out. Service by Meral was great very polite and looking after everyone's needs.
