Lovely little place, great food and drinks. Wonderful to relax. They also have a cute book and play area for kids to chill out in!

After 199 steps down, we wanted to stop somewhere before our next adventure. Always on the look out for illustration inspiration , their front window of books caught my eye and we ventured in. Really welcoming surroundings filled with books, which I'm sure kids will love, and amazing coffee and cakes (Sourced locally and some are vegan - Great for the dairy intolerant). Well worth a stop after a trek to Whitby Abbey!

Do not miss this amazing little cafe! Been in this little stop a few times and never miss it now whenever we visit Whitby. The coffee is good, well rounded and full bodied and never disappoints. You will however spend a good 10 minutes stood at the sweets trying to decide what cake to have as they all look so good! Last visit I came with my partner and had two milkshakes as it was too hot outside for coffee and they also did not disappoint. The woman who served us was like a little ray of sunshine and am sad I didn't get her name to mention here! All staff on were pleasant and friendly, and always smiling. As two goths it is sometimes hard to find places that we feel safe and welcome in, you can be sure that no matter what or who you are you will always get the same warm welcome and treatment as everyone else. Bathrooms were spotless as always and it's so nice to see nappies and wipes in the changing rooms for parents to use. Children's area was kept clean and plenty of tables around it so parents could keep an eye on little ones while enjoying time to themselves. A brilliant spot for families or parents to go to take children out. Everything is book themed and seems straight out of a fairytale, going in here is like escaping the real world for an hour with a nice coffee. Even if you go to one eatery in Whitby make sure it's this one, you'll never be disappointed. Can't wait for our next visit!!!

On holiday near Whitby and called in for a couple of flat whites. Always like the range of books as they stock a good range with some real gems. But yes the coffee is good.

Great cafe - great staff and comfortable, tasteful ambience. The food is good and I’d definitely recommend the pancake stack.

Second time having breakfast at The Pines for me, third for my mum and brother with whom I come on holiday to lovely Filey. I can see how the local older folk love this little cafe but you don't have to be old to appreciate its charm or indeed a good, reasonably priced English breakfast. Malcolm is a great host with his cheeky banter!

We accidently discovered this cafe while hunting around Whitby for something more "homely". The staff were very accommodating for our party of 7. They ensured we got seated and looked after us all the step of the way. The food was plentiful, tasty, and very reasonably priced. There was a good selection that suited both adults and children. If you want to avoid the mass of marauding tourists and seaguls. Take a stroll up the hill to Stokers.

We stumbled across this place whilst wandering around the old town. It’s near the swing bridge on Grape Street Small menu so we tried most of it - everything we had was great. Loved the kimchi dumplings and the sushi. The bowl of delight which I forget the name of was delicious as was the sweet chilli chicken. All freshly cooked and tasty! We will return to try what we missed!! It was very reasonably priced, friendly service and can’t recommend enough.

What a lovely little cafe. The best bacon sandwich I've had. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.
