Monks Haven Cafe in Scarborough

Full English for £13, poorly cooked bacon; rubbery. One piddly little sausage . Hash browns where good and thats it. Could have got better from a motorway van. Website advertising pancakes but not on menu. Very disappointed

El lunes por la mañana todavía logramos sentarnos agradablemente cerca de la ventana del Monks Haven Café. Pedí el desayuno inglés completo grande (15 libras) y mi esposa un bollo de queso. La alarma de incendios siguió encendida y nos dijeron que fue causada por la tostadora y que pronto se arreglará lo que era. Solo tuvimos una corta espera antes de ser atendidos, el personal era amable y educado. El desayuno era generoso, abundante y sabroso, con una olla de té de buena calidad. Fue solo cuando fui a pagar cuando las cosas salieron mal. Un miembro del personal de la caja me preguntó si podía pagar en efectivo y le dije que normalmente uso mi tarjeta, ya que no llevo mucho dinero en efectivo. Había una máquina de tarjetas y pagué con tarjeta mientras recibía una conferencia sobre por qué necesitaban pagos en efectivo que para ser honesto no tenía idea de lo que estaba hablando y ella aparecía hosca y grosera, no recibí ningún agradecimiento en el pago. Irónicamente tenía suficiente efectivo para la propina, ya que hasta entonces el personal había sido muy educado. Es una pena y no volveré a visitarte.

Would be five stars, but you cannot order a kids menu if you are an adult

Visitamos este café para desayunar un domingo por la mañana. Nos alegramos de encontrar que era agradable para los perros. El servicio fue excelente y la señora que nos atendió fue muy acogedor y pudimos conseguir una salchicha para nuestro perro para disfrutar mientras nos arropamos en un desayuno. La decoración es como retroceder en el tiempo y nos encantaron los manteles de gaviota y cortinas a juego.

Ordered 2 Breakfasts from 5mins from sitting down. Breakfast came out with in seconds cold. we sent it back.came out again after 10 minutes still cold not happy Tinned musrooms cheap frozen sausage but the toast was ok £13 pounds each. Not going again Not happy. Mr, walker clitheroe.

Un gran hallazgo en esta hermosa ciudad costera. Personal amable y educado , sabroso café barista y Taylor’s de Harrogate Tea. Los mejores bocadillos de tocino que he probado en mucho tiempo. Los propietarios, Ian y Helen son tan acogedores.

Second time we have been here when in Whitby, highly recommended for lunch, we had fish and chips. Friendly staff and the service was spot on, not to fast or slow.

Gran ubicación, el personal es muy amable y servicial para perros y niños. La comida es sencilla pero se hace bien, pastel de té o bollo, freír o algo un poco más sofisticado... los precios probablemente deberían ser más altos dada la gran ubicación y el comercio turístico, pero los mantienen justos y el servicio viene del corazón.

Called in for 2 coffees, went to pay it debit card, and was informed anything under £10 paying with debit card, is liable for extra charges, robbers, why not display, one cafe that I will swerve in future, and give custom to other cafes nearby

Una gran tradición salón de té / cafetería. Equipo de trabajo allí tan amable y servicial. Nuestra perra estaba un poco emocionada oliendo toda la comida al entrar, le preguntaron si podía tener una salchicha para calmarla, hizo justo el truco. El desayuno estaba perfectamente cocinado y sabía muy bien. Definitivamente vale la pena una visita de nuevo.

Discovered some time ago & keep coming back for more! Very busy at lunchtime, had short wait for a table & were informed with great courtesy that they were only serving food at busy times. Agree with this policy, as who'd want to be denied great food due to customers spending an hour over 2 coffees? As we'd planned dinner that evening, we chose one of their simpler options, hot pork pie & mushy peas. Best pork pie ever & evident they go to trouble to source the best ingredients. One slight criticism, 'specials board' could be better positioned & in bolder print. Staff as friendly, helpful & efficient as ever.

First time visit to Monks Haven and won’t be the last. It was very busy but we managed to get a table straight away for breakfast. They allow dogs too which a massive bonus, not only that they have us a small plate of sausages for the dogs, which I just think is absolutely lovely. My husband ordered the large breakfast which came with every item you’d expect and was cooked to perfection. I had a tea cake which was delicious too. The staff were very friendly and very attentive. Definitely recommend a visit :)

Primera visita en una tarde ocupada. Nos dijeron que no había mesas disponibles, pero si podíamos esperar fuera, pronto habría una mesa disponible. Servidor muy amable entonces nos llamó y explicó menú. Buena selección de pasteles y un gran café. La próxima visita una semana después y había mesas vacías así que entramos. Servidor diferente que luego dijo que solo se servían comidas principales. A las 2: 00 pm. Así que nos fuimos y fuimos a otro café a lo largo de la carretera que no tenía restricciones similares. Los negocios deben ser buenos si pueden permitirse rechazar a los clientes.

Nos encantó este lugar. Vinimos a almorzar con nuestro perro y eran muy acogedores. Nuestra comida llegó rápidamente y era encantador. Incluso nos dieron una salchicha para el perro. El personal era genial. No puedo recomendarlo lo suficiente.

Caro para un desayuno a £ 11. 50 por un estándar y £ 13. 50 para un grande que tardó 15 minutos en llegar que no me importa si está recién cocinado y llega caliente! Olvidé la seta en un plato Huevo duro como el caucho Bacon frío Los hongos se enfriaron cuando finalmente llegaron. 2 cucharaditas de frijoles en una olla pequeña de metal también fría. ¡Después de quejarse nos quitaron el desayuno y los calentaron en el microondas y los trajeron de vuelta! ¡Escuchamos el sonido del microondas! 🫣 Todo preparado y almacenado en calentador Bain Marie aparentemente después de quejarse de que estábamos Conté esto y también una excusa que si los platos no estaban precalentados que puede hacer que el desayuno frío también. Cuando mencioné que mi huevo era duro y gomoso sin yema moteada, me preguntó si lo había solicitado bien hecho.

Rude male member of staff/owner/owner of resident dog! Can't comment on food walked in shown to a table and a dog was sat near chair I needed to pull out. Asked whose dog it was got a filthy look and a nod from man at back of counter so walked out. I like dogs it's the owner that's the problem.

We stopped by here for some drinks and ended up staying to have a light lunch. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Cafe is dog friendly and our dog enjoyed the fuss from the staff and the free sausage! Food was nice, didn't take to long and tasted pretty good.

Came here for breakfast. The staff were accomidating and allowed us to modify 2 of the breakfasts and swap out some items. The full breakfast comes with a drink for under £12 which was great value for money. The food was nice, but the only thing I would say is the bacon was a little chewy, and the fried egg wasn't runny enough for my liking. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Really nice cafe. The food we had here was really good and the staff were very friendly and happy to help. They did a good selection of gluten free options and the menu was reasonably priced. The cafe does get busy as it's popular cafe in a busy area of Whitby. I would recommend going to this cafe if you are in Whitby.

We've been to this place before, but it was our first time needing gluten-free options. The menu is extensive, offering everything from sandwiches and salads to fish and chips, and even carrot cake for dessert. As always, we received a warm and friendly welcome. Being new to gluten-free, we hadn't noticed before how well they cater to this dietary requirement. They not only offered gluten-free bread for any sandwich filling, but also provided gluten-free options for fish and chips and pork pies. My husband had a hard time choosing because there were so many gluten-free options. We ended up taking home a gluten-free scone and gluten-free carrot cake. Considering that a sandwich, a salad, a cup of tea, a glass of wine, carrot cake, and a scone all came to around £35, it was indeed good value for money. This place has become our new favorite café in Whitby!

An absolute gem tucked away... delicious food... very welcoming staff... and a great atmosphere... Lovely!!!

One of the few places which offer more than a cup of tea or coffee and bakery in the morning, so, this was a pleasure and a bit of luck to get a table without a reservation, though the places are limited. Full English breakfast was good, we could easily share it fir 2 of us, plus they offer a sausage for a dog, which was nice. Tea furring the day was good, too, however, we wanted to have tea only during their lunch time and were not sorted inside as we were told “lunch only served inside”, and though we made it clear we are outside no one came to make the order until I came in and placed my order. The tea and a cake were good, though. Toilets are accessible on the top floor but only through a staircase; yet it is quite big and comfortable. The location is really nice and the place is quite popular.

Best little cafe in Whitby for consistently providing great food and service in a very clean premises.

The full breakfast had everything I could ask for . Service was good and didn’t have to wait too long for food to arrive . Tea came with hot water as standard. Sausage was so tasty .

Arrived in Whitby on August Bank holiday weekend, Saturday). Tried numerous cafes but they were all full. Walked pat the Monks Haven and noticed a few tables so we went in. Brilliant. The staff were pleasant with big smiles on their faces. The breakfast was excellent with Yorkshire Tea. Staff went round all the tables asking if everything was alright or if they wanted anything else. As we finished our breakfast all the tables had been filled and people were waiting outside. Even though we had finished our breakfast at no time did staff try to usher us out. Lovely little find and will be our first port of call on our next visit to Whitby.

Popped in for tea and cake whilst holidaying nearby, lovely café with great food and an excellent cup of tea! We didn't have a full meal but judging by what we saw perhaps next time !!

Popped in for morning cafe. Excellent service and quality food. Finest warm cheese scone that came with butter, relish and a small noggin of cheese. Recommended! Cappuchino and mochachino lovely and smooth.

Welcoming and friendly staff, the food from the menu was more than we expected. Two of our party were gluten free and easily accommodated, the fish and chips were outstanding. Highly recommend, great for families, couples for a light bite to eat or lunch.

Lovely cafe with a nice setting. Outdoor seating which was in the shade which was nice on the hot day we were there. Food looked nice we will certainly be back.

Such a fabulous little place! The staff are wonderful and the food is even better. We had full English breakfasts and sausage sandwiches when we visited. We were only found it towards the end of our holiday but had we found it earlier I think we would have been there most days. We have a newborn baby with a big pram and although it’s a small space inside the staff found us somewhere to sit with them pram beside us. They welcome dogs and the toilets are lovely and clean. We will definitely go again. Thanks ladies.

Always a lovely breakfast In here , lovely staff , the girls are excellent and very friendly, this isn't their fault as they will be told to do this , but I found it a little off putting that they were both stood practically in front of the table waiting for people to come in , you feel like your being watched while you eat , as I said I'm sure they are told to do that , but maybe stand nr the counter and not right next to where people are eating. Also the bacon was quite hard , chewy like it had been sat there a while , and it hadn't been opened long so should have been fresh cooked.

Lovely home cooked food, reasonably priced, very friendly and genuine staff. Was a pleasure to have lunch there.

Was great to take our dog Jacob into the cafe and he loved getting the sausage.scones were so light and delicious.staff were so friendly and welcoming.

Lovely friendly little cafe. We took our mum here whilst we was staying in Whitby, the staff where polite and nothing was to much trouble. The cakes were amazing too!. We will definitely be back.

A lovely cafe in Whitby situated on Church Street. Friendly staff, it's table service. Best bacon and egg sandwich, biggest froth head on a cappuccino I have ever seen. Extremely clean and tidy. Just a lovely find.

We were chilled to the bone after visiting the Abbey so a huge full English breakfast with tea came in handy. After such a meal, you don't need lunch or dinner anymore. Breakfast is already included in the price of drinks.

Food and service excellent. Rosie is so well behaved and a lovely natured dog.

The food was amazing as was the service. My mum had the gluten free quiche and gluten free scone and she said its the best she's ever tasted. In her words 'it's lovely to feel normal with food'. I had a slice of the victoria sponge cake and honestly it was the best I've had in a very long time.

Visited on a weekend so there was a short wait for a table which wasn't an issue. We had the full English and the veggie breakfast - both were plentiful and tasty. Coffee was good and staff were friendly. Its a great location for the shops and near to the steps. I'd recommend to others.

Lovely cafe and good food ..we visited today with our 5 month old labrador he was very kindly given a sausage for a treat ! 🐾❤️...my husband left his Lagavulin cap behind and one of the staff came and followed us and returned it.. this was excellent customer service...we will definitely be returning 😀

Absolutely little gem of a place ,serve small fish and chips which is a perfect portion ,lovely friendly staff ,quirky backwards clock on the wall adds character and worth a visit to see the handrail on the staircase which is sculptured to look like a eel .

Ate here for breakfast on our weekend away, delicious breakfast (had the full English and the vegan breakfast in our party), plenty of tea and the service was excellent. Had to wait outside for a table as they were so busy but only waited about 10min and didn't feel at all rushed when we were in there. Definitely on the list for a return visit, thank you. We love the adorable seagull motifs throughout! A really nice touch.

Fabulous cafe ,good great and staff also great

Had lunch there with my wife and two kids on our 18th wedding anniversary. We decided to spend the day in Whitby and needed to find a dog-friendly place to eat. The welcome and service was so friendly and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My son befriended the owner’s dog Rosie whilst our Westie was safely in the corner. It was a lovely meal to help cap a very special day.

A lovely little gem of a cafe. Food is amazing, service is impeccable and our dog was even given his own sausage cut and dished up especially for him! Fish and chips was deliciously tasty and fresh. I definitely recommend this cafe and will return when I am back in Whitby.

Lovely setting and lovely staff but unfortunately the food was not great. Everything tasted like it had been pre-made and left in a warmer for to long. It was very difficult to eat. We were one of the first in so not sure how long before it had been cooked. Such a shame

We managed to get a table yesterday for breakfast and the service (like today) was excellent my husband was very happy with his vegetarian breakfast and becase I had asked for oat milk with my coffee the lady serving made me aware that the little biscuit contained milk incase it was an allergy or a preference which i was very grateful for. We went today and had coffee and st clements vegan cake which was delicious! I would highly recommend this cafe 10/10

A wonderful Whitby restaurant. The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. The food was delicious and plentiful, the fish and chips highly rated. This lovely place is definitely worth a visit.

Visited for breakfast on Monday with my husband and our dog. Staff very polite and food was served fast, fresh and hot . My husband had the full English and I had the vegetarian option. We both really enjoyed it. One of the best breakfasts we have had. To top it off the place is very dog friendly and they even provided my dog with a chopped sausage which I thought was a lovely touch. Wil definitely be back on our next visit

Stopped off for an afternoon cuppa and cake. Service was very good and our waitress very friendly. Location is great and perfect for a break on the way back from the Abbey.

We were impressed with the friendly welcome from the excellent staff, as was our dog, greeted to the cafe with a plate of sausage treats on taking our table. The food was excellent and we will definitely return when next in Whitby. The food was great tasting at reasonable cost too.

Had a long trek for breakfast, web page says 9am opening, chalkboard says 915, currently still not open. Annoying and misleading.

Fantastic food and service, the dog being treated to a complimentary sausage is an amazing touch by this place! Will recommend to anyone asking about Whitby!

The service was average at best but what shocked me the most was that my daughters pizza on the kids menu literally had no cheese on it of which was about £6.50

Rewrite after terrible spelling 😂 Now this wasn't on our radar, as we walked the streets looking for morning breakfast. We came across this place, and the staff were able to fit us in. Ordered coffee and tea, two breakfasts, which we both found hot, and actually one of the most enjoyable breakfasts we have had recently. Reasonably priced, after two more drinks, we left happy. Now, it's probably on our radar for future visits to whitby, may have to try lunch too.

Really pleased to see kippers on the menu after walking past the smokehouse. Kippers were amazing with delicious scrambled egg. A friend had the kipper pate which looked very tasty. Yummy cakes to follow. Very reasonable price and friendly service.

Absolutely loved it, traditional, cosy and dog friendly. There's not many places that will bring you a sausage for your dog. Food is all prepared and presented with love and staff were so nice.

A right find is this dog friendly cafe,very friendly staff, got a table easily, ordered drinks and food, I had the large fish and chips and my wife Wendy had kippers and scrambled eggs,and our dog luna had some sausage ,so all well happy, my sister and husband came up to stay and we went back the next day

What a find! A cafe that accepts dogs and yet has great food and service. We had fish and chips, you can have garden peas or mushy peas with your meal. The large meal had a humungous piece of fish, beautifully cooked with crisp batter. We also had the kippers, from the nearby smoke House,with toast and scrambled egg. It was lovely and the portion size very good. On the second day we had excellent crab sandwiches with a side salad. Can recommend highly. Our dog was well looked after with sausage pieces which she appreciated. There are lots of fish and chip shops in Whitby that don't allow dogs. Don't worry as you and your fur babies are well cared for here.
