Stumbled upon this place while looking for a bite to eat. It’s up an alleyway but opens up into a pretty little court yard. The inside decor was nice too. We order two platters which was plenty for 4 of us. Staff friendly and welcoming. Would happily pop in here again.

Great place , filled with the charm of Whitby , food was amazing and kept lovely and hot on hot plates …. Love this touch , sat outside for our delicious breakfast , my husband said it’s the best French Toast he’s ever had ❤️

Highly recommend Sanders Yard Bistro! Our group (5 ladies) had hired a house in Whitby for the weekend and wanted to order food in for 1 of the evenings. I contacted Sanders Yard to enquire about outside catering and Sophie was super helpful from the beginning and sent me loads of suggestions. Sophie delivered the food to the house for us, it all came boxed and labelled up. The food was delicious and great value for money! We couldn't eat it all on the first evening, so we had it again on the second day. Thanks again Sophie for a super service.

Lovely fresh food. We had a meze sharing platter which was wonderful. We will definitely return and the staff were great too.

Fantastic service and a very popular spot for a reason. Was lucky enough to grab a table in the divine courtyard and everything from the hummus flatbread to the potato and leek soup with a toastie was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Lovely cute cafe down a side street, we ate outside and its was lovely to be surrounded by all the greenery. Staff were friendly. Good choic of food on the menu, I had the vegetarian chilli nachos and it was very tasty. Was dog friendly too, would recommend.

Lovely restaurant in Whitby. Dog friendly and catered for vegetarians. We stopped in for breakfast and both us enjoyed the food, which was served on nice hot plates. Staff were really friendly and it always make me happy when they say hello to our dog. I would definitely recommend and return to this restaurant.

Great bistro and cafe hidden through an archway off church street. Lovely food, nice staff and good service. Although we didn't have any there was some great looking cakes and desserts as well. Highly reccomended.

We got really lucky as they weren't very busy and ended up closing the kitchen a little early, but the veggie burgers were really nice and the apple crumble was even better! Really lovely lunch and a chance to get out of the cold for a bit. A favourite in Whitby!

Lovely for a hearty breakfast. Great range of options, and what we had was tasty, hot and freshly made. We also came home with some cakes because they looked too good to pass on! Altogether a great little spot with delicious food and excellent, friendly service.

Cake was lovely but the young waitress(American)?made us feel uncomfortable, couldn't wait until we had finished and clearing table whilst eating.

We arranged an afternoon tea from Sanders Yard as part of a hen do celebration, and couldn’t recommend them enough! All parts of the spread were beautifully presented and such high quality. The team were also so accommodating of any food allergies. Will certainly be visiting soon!

We are in Whitby for our daughters 30th birthday and decided to order from the catering service for Saturday evening. What can I say. A lovely varied choice of hot and finger foods arrived hot to the door on a very cold day. All food was laid out for us to nibble on during the evening. Happy vegan, vegetarians and carnivores. Would highly recommend for any party gathering.

A friendly, clean, well managed little bistro that welcomes dogs. Food is homemade with generous portions. Very good value for money and one of my favourite places to visit.

Absolutely awful experience. Booked a table only to be told it wasn’t booked, then asked to reserve a table while we waited outside. When I saw others were given a table while we were waited I asked why and was told I hadn’t booked. When I asked if I could book and wait for a table I was told I couldn’t book on the same day! Utter shambles

Great place down one of Whitby's snickleways with attractive courtyard garden. Serves a good brekky. Yummy cakes. Good decor. Pleasant staff.

Had a good lunch here. Plenty of choice. Sandwiches very filling and good coffee all reasonably priced. Pleasant staff. Clean toilets.

Asked for one thing. Got another, which I was allergic to. Asked for a new plate and had the manager caused such a huge scene in the middle of the room which completely humiliated us. They then sent two further staff members to make the situation worse. This is the first time I’ve been victim shamed because of a dietary restriction. Shocking.

Love this place, brilliant for veggies, portions 'Yorkshire Big' (they bring a box and paper bag to your table to scoop what's left on request) Good also for carnies and kipper eaters, sharing platters and a specials board. Plus, plenty of puds. Pay as you order, and a range of prices, so you can tailor to your budget. Seating both inside and outside. Very busy place, queues at times so we were there early for lunch. Accessibility: if you can get there, largely level, tiny step partly inside, 45deg turn in the front door. Parking: forget, this is in the heart of Whitby down a wide passage. Lovely staff. Toilets inside.

I was treated to afternoon tea here, it was absolutely delicious! Tucked away up a little alley in Whitby a lovely Bistro. Seating inside & out, a great menu & wonderful staff. We each had a choice of 2 sandwiches, that were made with very fresh bread & generous fillings, an extra soup, tart or humous with pitta bread, a scone with cream & jam, plus a choice of 2 slices of cake (not small portions may I add!) We ended up taking our cake home! Not forgetting tea or coffee. It was certainly worth the 100+ mile round trip. I throughly enjoyed my treat! The other food served to other customers also looked wonderful & a decent sized portion. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Good service, nice and cosy, had to wait at door until seated, I had bacon & egg sandwich, sandwich was bigger than the plate, tried to cut it and because there was a napkin under neath and it was a runny yoke it was nightmare to eat, more fat than bacon probably worst bacon & egg sandwich I've had 🤯

Llegamos unos minutos antes de la apertura, pero se nos permitió sentarnos dentro para alejarnos del viento frío. Seis adultos, un niño y un perro y tuvimos una mezcla de desayunos - Inglés completo / tortitas / papilla / tostadas para el niño. El servicio era excelente - amable y eficiente. La comida era de un alto nivel y todos disfrutamos de nuestros desayunos. Una pista - llegar temprano. Para cuando nos fuimos la gente estaba siendo rechazada.

Reservamos brunch aquí después de leer las críticas, pero nos decepcionaron. Larga espera para pedir y larga espera para que llegue la comida. Todo era bastante soso / de mal gusto. Lástima ya que es un lugar pequeño / pintoresco agradable, pero no volveremos y no lo recomiendo. Sandside Café en Sandsend es mucho mejor.

Visitamos un domingo a la hora del almuerzo como un grupo de 9 damas. No habíamos reservado previamente, pero lograron sentarnos en dos mesas vecinas. Lugar encantador, gran ambiente relajado, a un precio razonable para la comida de gran calidad y buen servicio. Sin duda volveré y estaré encantado de recomendar a otros. Menú variado con muchas opciones sin gluten y veganas.

We visited last Friday (Sept 27th 2024) on a works outing. The staff were immediately receptive, polite and above all else, funny. We all immediately felt at home. The food we ordered was just perfect. We had a range of non and vegetarian dishes and everyone enjoyed their meals. The bottle of wine 2 members drank was also greatly received after a recommendation from the vivacious and perfect waitress. This is our first ever work outing and the girls I brought have asked to return. Which I will happily do. My wife and I have eaten here previously and have enjoyed everything about our visits. Recently enjoyed a breakfast here but my wife didn't get her bacon cooked as she wished, the young girl bought her plate back and said the chef insisted the bacon was crispy (it wasn't and the waitress quickly changed the subject and ran off), also the sausages weren't to our liking, our toast arrived burnt, however we returned the toast and it came back fine, however we'd eaten our breakfast by this point. I can see we must have arrived when they were busy, however, I think some of the staff need to be retrained, especially to learn how to crisp bacon and not burn toast. I'm not going to downscore these guys but they need to remember, people are paying for their food and expect how they wish

Always lovely food here, we visit every time we come to Whitby. The restaurant is so pretty and the staff are always friendly.

I got the veggie breakfast and it was soooo good! Also loved how the plates were (very) hot, hehe. The place is adorable, very cozy, and the service is great, too. :)

Escondido lejos del arrastre principal, Sanders Yard es un refugio del ajetreo de Whitby. Eso no quiere decir que no sea un lugar ocupado. Lo es, pero también es relajado y apto para perros. Desde la última vez que visitamos diría que el equipo de Sanders ha mejorado su juego. Amigables, serviciales y eficientes, sirven un menú amplio con un montón de excelentes alimentos básicos recién preparados y una tabla de ofertas muy buena. Todo a precios razonables. Continuar valorando y recomendar este lugar. La hamburguesa de cebolla baji estaba muy buena.

Dropped in here on the way to checking in at The Old dispensary accommodation in Whitby. We only had lattes (2 were £7). Food looked delicious 😋. Really friendly staff. Showed me where our accommodation was next door

Staff a bit slow. 2 people queueing behind us left. Breakfast ok but bland sausage and fatty bacon and only one rasher. Asked for no tomato and got extra bacon instead.👍 Good toast. Lovely room. Good coffee.

Called in for Brunch one day and managed to get a table although very busy. 4 of us ate there and the food was very nice.

Popped in for brunch as we were staying nearby. Friendly staff, loads of specials on top of what is already a good menu and the food was great. Will return

Enjoyed a lovely breakfast here with my granddaughter. Beautifully decorated, clean and good service.

Arrived here at approx 10.15 one morning for breakfast and orderd a full English and a poached eggs with salmon and avoado. We havent been to this cafe before. We waited and waited and after approx 45 mins our breakfast finally arrived. My husbands was ok but mine was awful. The bread wasnt toasted, the avocado was far too spicy with loads of chilli and had started turning brown, the eggs were undercooked and the rocket was limp. To be honest we should have complained but we just wanted to leave as we had only put a couple of hours parking on the meter. Would never return.

Came here for a sharing platter. Other people food coming out looked lovely and such good sized portions. Our sharing platter came and there was only one small piece of cheese when advertised as selected cheeses. The piece they gave was not even big enough for 1. We mentioned to members of staff who said portion was not right size so brought out another small piece of the same cheese should state on menu only 1 cheese per serving. We also felt the plate was just filled out with lettuce. Would come again but would have something different as this was poor value for money.

Beautiful place in the heart of Whitby

Most of the people enjoyed the atmosphere but ones that chose souvelaki were very disappointed- flavourless, complete waste of money.

A great find down a narrow alley in the centre of Whitby, across the river on the Abbey side. The town was packed as there was a folk weekend on and around lunchtime all the restaurants etc. were full, however, we found this jem which still had vacancies. We'll definitely be calling there again as the food was fantastic. I had the Moroccan inspired hummus with halloumi, pitta bread and sweet potato fries off the specials board and my partner had Thai inspired fish cakes and all of it was delicious. There was a pretty little courtyard for outside eating or tastefully decorated inside. The waitresses were quick, friendly and efficient. Definitely a place to re visit next time.

We wondered down the packed streets looking for best place to eat / get a table amongst the crowds of people, we spotted the sign for this place hidden away up an alley, great spot it proved to be. Inside and outside seating available. Great selection of food available and as off the main street not continual stream of tourists walking past you enjoying your food. Great restaurant.

Superb quality food with great service and the BEST selection of cakes in Whitby! (their baked cheesecakes are an absolute treat). This is a must-stop eatery for us whenever we are in Whitby. A nicely varied menu with plenty of vegetarian friendly choices.

The young lady who served me (Ebony) was so lovely and helpful. I had a lovely lunch, very tasty and good value - spicy avocado and poached eggs. Very good all round.

Lovely place to eat. Choice of seating inside and out. Great breakfasts all freshly cooked to order, also great burgers and a fabulous croque monsieur! Can get busy so be prepared to wait for a table at peak times, recommend to visit off peak if you can. Staff busy but attentive, efficient and polite. First visited during our holiday last year, made sure to go again this year and will do again next year without a doubt!

Came here for the gluten free selection, what a wide range they had! Clearly marked out for dietary needs. The place was busy and servers were quick and attentive.

Excellent place to eat and it's dog friendly with a dedicated area which they try to prioritise use for those with dogs. The lunch menu is really good with a wide variety of choices and the food itself is first class, we have been there a few times and have never been disappointed with our meals and the service provided. The staff are outstanding, extremely professional, friendly and very efficient in what they do. This must be one of the best places to eat in Whitby, well done to you all and keep up the good work.

This establishment occupies a space in the famous back yards of Whitby. There is an outside seating area but a rain soggy day kept everyone inside and the footfall was quite busy , but no one was turned away. Hot/ cold drinks and alcohol are served here Sandwich and snacks and main meals all freshly prepared , a set menu and a blackboard menu . The choice of food is astounding, especially the cake's choices. Two rooms with various seating arrangements are clean and tidy , well lit with electric lighting , male and female toilets well presented though small . Staff very friendly and helpful. There is a step down from one room to the other ( don't miss it ). Dogs are welcome We had a very nice lunch ,well prepared and presented and tasty and filling. Will call again and recommend.

We went here the last Saturday in June for breakfast. We were staying nearby and got stuck on the abbey side of Whitby because the bridge broke down. Staff were all very friendly and also informative about the bridge situation. The breakfasts came in hot plates, so our food stayed warm for longer. Lovely quaint place inside and the food was nice. I had a vegetarian breakfast. It wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was nice enough. I’d definitely visit here again. I was going to take pictures of the food, but only remembered once we’d started eating it! 😬

Partners french toast was amazing but my big breakfast was full of undercooked subpar elements and was overcharged for a drink oddly without prior warning.

We called in for coffee and toast. Very disappointed with the quality of both my toast and my daughters french toast. Had to ask twice for both butter and jam despite requesting it when ordering. It's a nice place but left feeling disappointed

We had a cup of tea here when we arrived in whitby. Staff were so pleasant and welcoming, we came back and had tea and cake before we left to drive home. Cakes were delicious. If you are in whitby try this place you will not be disappointed.

We visited her for lunch. Lovely little place and the cakes looked amazing. It caters for vegans, which is good for me. The inside is light but cosy. Service was slow initially, but once we placed our order everything was fine. Really tasty sandwiches full of delicious filling and a nice big salad garnish at a reasonable price.

We popped in for a coffee and had a scone with jam and cream. We sat in the courtyard in the sunshine and sheltered from the wind. Excellent service and the staff were friendly. Lovely clean toilets. A nice place to sit and catch your breath away from the crowds.

Loads of choice at very reasonable prices. Quality food, plenty of it. Efficient waitress who really wanted to give people the time to choose what they wanted. Dogs and owners seated in a separate area to those of us who prefer to eat without dogs present. Didn't feel rushed, on a fairly busy lunchtime. Best we had in Whitby.

Child friendly - which in my case is a negative, but might be what you're looking for if sitting in a nursery full of screaming babies and toddlers is enjoyable for you. Otherwise headphones are mandatory. They charge extra for plant milk (in 2024...), so I did not order coffee. Vegan cake options, which is where the two stars come in.

Too easy to walk past and miss this lovely little place. We tried it on spec and were pleasantly surprised. There was a great specials board with lots of healthy and tasty choices for carnivores, vegans and allergy-sufferers, making it hard to choose. We went for a smoked haddock chowder, and beetroot and squash tartlets which came with really tasty salad, fries and coleslaw. I ate far more than I should and enjoyed every bite. Service was a little scatty but we felt very at ease, and we had a lovely table outside in the sun.

Poor service. Walked in and went to look at the cakes and was told to wait at the door to be seated. I was just looking at the cakes but I thought I better do as I was told as it wasn’t busy. We were then shown to a table, then told she us she would come back for our order. I was going to get some cake but thought I might be overstepping the mark if I was going to have another attempt to see the cakes so we just ordered coffee from the brusk lady.
