Too easy to walk past and miss this lovely little place. We tried it on spec and were pleasantly surprised. There was a great specials board with lots of healthy and tasty choices for carnivores, vegans and allergy-sufferers, making it hard to choose. We went for a smoked haddock chowder, and beetroot and squash tartlets which came with really tasty salad, fries and coleslaw. I ate far more than I should and enjoyed every bite. Service was a little scatty but we felt very at ease, and we had a lovely table outside in the sun.

Poor service. Walked in and went to look at the cakes and was told to wait at the door to be seated. I was just looking at the cakes but I thought I better do as I was told as it wasn’t busy. We were then shown to a table, then told she us she would come back for our order. I was going to get some cake but thought I might be overstepping the mark if I was going to have another attempt to see the cakes so we just ordered coffee from the brusk lady.

We took four children to dinner on Saturday. Highly recommend taking families to Sanders Yard. The staff were incredibly attentive and took real care of us - bringing food early, showing the kids the deserts, entertaining, chatting with the kids - all simple acts but in doing so making our our meal much more enjoyable.

Seated quickly and order was taken. When we had finished plates where snatched away and we were not ask if everything was OK. Finished our drinks and again the glasses were gone as soon as they were empty and again nothing was said. We were hoping for a coffee and some cake. But after sitting for 15 min with an empty table we decided to leave. By this time they were almost empty so not at all busy. Extremely poor waiting on staff. With the exception of a young girl on the till who could not have been nicer. Unfortunately we will not be back.

Great service by Paula who found us a comfortable table in the lounge and checked on us during lunch (even though busy) Had a lovely lunch even shared a trio of deserts which were delicious (we rarely eat deserts but all looked and tasted so good) Take away available too See you next time in Whitby

Most restaurants around Whitby and Scarborough seem orientated around fish and chips - I craved a fresh tasty salad and this place delivered. Lovely little place, friendly staff and the goats cheese salad with elderflower drink was exactly what I needed.

The service was mostly good and quick but it felt as though too many tables are crammed in to the space. We ordered the Prosecco platters that were advertised on the website (even though we were not given the menu on the table for this but were told it was ok to order off the website). The food was ok but the wrong sides were brought out and at that point it had become busier and it was difficult to get the attention of staff so we just ate what we had. I felt more could have been added to the platters as they all felt a bit the same and one of the ones we wanted wasn’t available. What did really annoy me however was when we came to pay. They charged us more than advertised for the platters and when I queried this was told ‘it’s gone up, we must have not got round to changing it on the website yet’ which I felt was a very poor way to do business. I commented that wasnt fair and just was met with a stroppy shrug from the member of staff. I would not visit here again.

We came here last year and enjoyed our visit so decided to drop in for an afternoon snack on our next visit to Whitby. Girl who took our order was great but the one who brought our drinks practically dumped the tray of drinks on the table and walked away, poor service and we all thought quite rude. Everyone has an off day so didn’t think too much off it. The Bakewell tart was very dry and tasteless so overall not a good experience

We've been coming here for around 15 years. Always been very impressed until last year. Thinking they might just have been having a bad day on our previous visit, we gave it another try yesterday. We won't bother again. Staff member 1: "Take a seat here as soon as they go" They had finished and the table had been cleared and cleaned. Staff member 2: "Who told you to sit here? - we've just lost a booking because you sat down without asking" So they lost our custom too. Staff who were clearly unhappy, who contradict and lie and wanting to have a an argument with their customers is a sure way to loose business.

Popped in here for an unplanned lunch as our first choice had lost their chef (careless). Very nice vibe inside - super relaxed and a separate dog friendly area for those with canine companions. I had the mushroom pate (good - plenty if toast and side salad!), daughter had Beans on toast (Large bowl of beans!) And husband had the Greek salad. All were pretty generously proportioned- our only nitpicks were that the salad could have had some dressing (we could easily have asked for this, but some members of our party are hardware martyrs) and not the most friendly service we've had in Whitby. BUT definitely one of the most veggie friendly places, and no real complaints.

Breakfast was ok, my partner's toast was untoasted, he asked for toasted toast and they only brought 1 slice, seemed a bit stingy to not replace both slices. The rest of his breakfast was good. I asked for 3 items from extras menu as I have dietary limitations, they charged me £11 and the scrambled egg wasn't good at all, bland and watery, I just hope it wasn't made with milk as I'd informed them I was lactose intolerant. When I queried the £11 charge they said they'd charged me for bread which I didn't have so did refund me £1.50. Staff were lovely and the place had a nice relaxed vibe. Probably a nice place for coffee and cake as the lattes were fine and the cakes looked nice, but from my experience expensive for the quality and portions.

The menu choice was unexpectedly broad ranging. My husband opted for a toastie filled with goats cheese and red pepper, served with a green salad, which was really delicious. I chose oak smoked salmon with poached egg, which were served with toasted malted bread h butter on the side) all of which was beautiful. Washed down with real Yorkshire tea- really hit the spot. We managed to snag the last table but hit a weird time between breakfast and lunch where we couldn't order anything but drinks yet so we did have a bit of a wait but it wasn't a massive problem, just something to be aware of. I went for the smoked salmon, swiss cheese and tomato toasted sandwich- a combination of ingredients I would never have thought to put together but it was gorgeous. The prices are reasonable and there’s a fair choice on the menu. It’s dog friendly and although I don’t really like dogs around food, every visit, the dogs have all been very well behaved. If I had one criticism, as it was December, and quite cold, I’d fit some sort of door closing device. How people think it’s OK to leave the door open is beyond me. Its certainly won’t stop us coming again, but I think I’d prefer not to stay in the section where the entrance is. Edit. Another visit. Really well looked after with my Dairy free breakfast.
