Smugglers Cove at the Buccaneer in Scarborough

Do not be put off by the entrance! Not one to leave reviews but I feel compelled to on this occasion. Whilst not quite hot enough, this Sunday carvery was absolutely delicious. A vast selection of accompaniments, generous helpings of meat, and fantastic, welcoming staff made this one of my favourite carvery experiences in some time. Food was home cooked and prices very reasonable. Will definitely be back next time I am in Filey.

The Buccaneer is a really nice pub with a good atmosphere and good selection of food and drink. We went out of season but the pub was quite busy. Booking is not necessary but is advised. They do special offers on certain nights eg. Tuesday and Thursday are steak nights.

The service was friendly and the carvery was delicious. I’d strongly advise booking a table in advance if you’re planning to visit as they seem to fill up quickly! This is clearly for good reason though.

Absolutely beautiful Sunday carvery yet again. As regular visitors to Filey with a caravan in the area we always choose smugglers cove for our Sunday lunch and we are never disappointed Staff very friendly and accommodating. The food is just beautiful. We will come back here time and time again hopefully until we are old and grey!!!

We just stumbled upon this place whilst on a visit to Filey and decided to give it a try for a Sunday Carvery. We didn’t book, but would recommend as the food was fantastic, in fact probably the best carvery that we have had out ever. The staff were so friendly and helpful and will definitely return here to eat when we return. Thank You everyone at the Smugglers Cove.

On a short trip to Filey, we ate here. We have eaten here before, and have never been disappointed. The food is great quality, and is served with a very warm welcome. If you’re about on a Sunday make sure you have the carvery, it’s awesome! (Make sure you book!) It’s very child friendly so that’s a bonus. We found that most places are closed for food on Mondays nights, so make sure you book at Smuggles cove as it gets busy.

Went to the Buccaneer to see Over the limit, three brilliant musicians. Not a fan of all their songs they chose but they did them well. Would definitely go to see them again.

Booked for Saturday night for a meal and to see the band. The burger meal was excellent proper back bacon not the streaky stuff. . I asked for proper chips instead of fries. The home made onion rings were fantastic. Quite a few drink offers on . All in all a good night thank you

Popped in for Sunday lunch after seeing the 18 veg advertised on the board outside. The lunch was great, 3 meats plus a homemade pie to choose from. Vegetables were plentiful, liked that you could fill a gravy boat and take it back to your table.

Called for lunch and wanted fish and chips but it was not on the lunch menu this was no problem for the very helpful staff who said we can serve you fish and chips and wow when the plates came out we all said the same look at the size of the fish it was a first class meal with very friendly staff who were brilliant we will certainly be returning.

We decided to eat here on Wednesday night, the decor was a little dated but the food was amazing especially if you're a big eater. I ordered fish, chips & mushy peas, when the waitress brought it out it was massive, followed by a bowl of salad followed by bread and butter. It was so tasty and cooked perfectly. my husband had the steak and ale pie which was also really tasty. The girls behind the bar and waitresses were so lovely and friendly. We couldn't decide where to eat Thursday, I tried the chinese restaurant across the road but it was a 2 hour wait so we decided to go back to the smugglers cove, it was steak night, we were not disappointed, the steak was delicious and perfectly cooked, I added stilton sauce as an extra. I'm so glad we chose this restaurant.

Went here for a carvery. Barmaid miserable when we entered.. had to wait over half an hour to go up for carvery. If the staff went any slower they would have stopped.. food was slightly warm and not the best.. wouldn't recommend this place. More staff tha customers.

Having struggled to find an eatery that had a table free due to the popularity of the eat out help out scheme we found ourselves here.On enquiry at the service counter we were advised if we joined the very small queue we would be allocated a table and given an estimated wait time.Hand sanitiser was available and waitresses wore face coverings which was nice to see as was our first ecperience out since lockdown .I also noted the toilets had a 1 in 1 out policy with clear door signage .We were all seated promptly (2 adults 4 grandchildren) and our drinks & food order taken with a guide time of 45 mins due to them under estimating the demand which was acceptable .The menu was diverse and reasonably priced. The food arrived almost to the minute of the 45 mins ETA and presentation, portions and quality did not disappoint even the kids meals were overs sized .The eat out scheme was a bonus too.We did not order deserts as was a little late for the kiddies who were tired but the selection and portions looked amazing.I would definately return when next in Filey because inside this old building (? Old cinema) is a gem of a find and you have to go up the stairs to see and appreciate the themed restaurant.

We had an excellent night at smugglers last night . It was during the eat out promotion and we were advised on the length of our wait due to being walk ins. We were looked after by the staff moving us into the dining area to wait till our meals were delivered . We were given the exact time our meals would arrive . The meals were of exceptional value and good quality. Everyone involved greeted us with smiles and laughter . Definitely the highlight of our stay in Filey .

We were looking for Sunday lunch but had not booked anywhere today, and another cafe we called at who were only serving snacks kindly recommended this place for Sunday carvery ...The Sunday carvery is first class!!...there are 5 plate/portion sizes to choose from, we all went for the small adult size plates ( 2 adults and kids aged 12 and 15) and the portions are huge...All freshly cooked and delicious.Very friendly cosy atmosphere too...See you next time we visit Filey!

We visited the Buccaneers restaurant for Sunday Carvery today and it was the best carvery we have ever eaten!!! The choice of meats and vegetables was amazing and everything was piping hot and extremely fresh. The portion sizes were immense! The staff were friendly and attentive and it was so nice to speak to the Head Chef as he circulated the restaurant. In actual fact - we were so impressed we are returning tomorrow. Can’t wait! Thank you to the whole team!

We popped in one night a family of four adults 2 teenagers and 3 little ones, i had the home made steak pie, my wife had rump steak, son in law had hunters chicken, my daughter had lasagna, all were enjoyed and prices are very reasonable. Well worth a visit if your looking to eat in Filey.

I am quite amazed to see such good reviews on this place, because sadly my experience was not positive. I'll start with the positives... the food was very nice. Ok, now the negatives...The staff were very rude. upon entrance a barman grumped something at us and then we were told "your'll have to sit there" on the only table directly next to other patrons, when almost all other tables were empty. It was like they wern't expecting someone to come to eat there, but hang on, isn't it a restaurant, that's what people do. Then, when ordering sausage + mash ( a pretty standard meal), we were told they might not have sausages. What kind of restaurant doesn't have sausages. Soon we were told we were "lucky" that they had them. Umm no, they were on the menu. You was lucky we didn't eat elsewhere. I will say though, one of the 4 members of staff, an older lady, was at least more pleasant then the others.The food was also exceptionally expensive + although nice, wasn't worth the wait or the price tag.You can book a retirement party here, but i recommend doing it a week early because by then your meal might have actually arrived. ( bare n mind, as i said, this was when the place was almost empty, had it have been busy, i might still be there waiting now)

We visited here on 20.02.2020 for dinner. We had read reviews and decided to give it a try. The lovely lady working that evening welcomed us, drinks came prompt and she handed us a deck of cards to pass the time while we waited for our food. My son and husband ate from the early bird menu and unlike other early bird menus the amount of food was huge! My husband opted for a steak pie, he said it was one of the best he’s had and our son went for a burger. They were both really impressed with the quality and quantity of food. I had the Chicken Caesar and the chef himself brought out extra home made Caesar dressing (I didn’t ask) which was nice. The staff are a credit to the place! We will definitely be returning! I have been coming to filey since I was born and have never visited The Buccaneer. I hadn’t heard the best reviews but I think these were based on VERY old opinions. Me and my boyfriend popped in for a pint on a Friday and afternoon and were pleasantly surprised. Our favourite beer on tap and played pool. We had a good laugh, loved the quirky decor and polite, friendly staff. We had been in another local pub and left as we weren’t keen on the patrons, different story in here. Will be coming more regularly on our Filey trips.

Had a meal here on New Year’s Eve and all I can say is WOW, it’s a lovely restaurant and the food is exceptional, massive portions of good honest home cooked food make sure you go hungry. The staff were friendly and attentive to just the right measure. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Filey.

I am sure I have paid for my meal on my card before, but was told when paying for Sunday lunch this visit £1 would be added for card transaction. I believe that can’t be done anymore but was told otherwise. I have checked this out & find there is a government ruling against this which came into force January 2018Apart from that food excellent and worth a visit

Second time we have had Sunday lunch whilst touring with our motorhome. Absolutely stunning, the beef was amazing so tender, all the vegetables and potatoes are home cooked not frozen, hats off to all staff n kitchen staff we don't see for an amazing lunch thank you we will be back

Excellent food, great staff and great chef John. Pirate themed dining area. My wife and I had garlic mushroom starter great tasting dish. I followed that with garlic muscles once again excellant but a lot to eat. There may be an issue for some people because the dining area is up a flight of stairs but well worth the climb. Excellant experience shall be visiting on more than one occasion in the future. I understand that the Sunday carvery is great but unable to sample as I will be going home Sunday morning.

This is an old cinema and therefore a bit of a barn in terms of space. The Smugglers Cove is through the bar and separated from the games / bar area. The menu is standard pub food but the quality is way above standard pub food. The portion sizes are very good and the prices reasonable. They have a good wine list with a range of quality wines, prices are reasonable. Would definitely revisit this food outlet.

The best Sunday Carvery or any day Carvery we've had for years. Even though we just managed to get there 20 minutes before closing the meat was succulent and tasty and the vegetables lovely and fresh. 4 types of meat and around 18 types of veg plus 4 differently type cooked potatoes with lovely home made Yorkshire puddings. Like several others on Trip Advisor we were not quite sure what to expect! Don't be put off by the exterior, upstairs is a spacious restaurant with lovely staff. We went on a Wednesday when, unbelievably, two courses were advertised, for ten pounds. The starter was delicious,leek and potato soup, home made, thick and creamy, with crispy croutons. For non vegetarians there was a good choice of mains, including fish chips and mushy peas, steak pie and steak and chips. I chose the steak and it was perfect, with big crunchy onion rings, tomato, salad, mushroom , coleslaw and and huge chunky chips, all freshly cooked and served by a smiling waitress. We didn't have a long wait either, everything was very efficient. My husband, a vegetarian, only had a choice of two dishes, mushroom risotto or vegetable lasagne. I did point out that on the board outside it stated that for this offer any vegetarian dish could be ordered. It was very nicely pointed out to me that on the menus in the restaurant only two options were available. A slight discrepancy here that maybe needs addressing ! However everything was so nice and such excellent value that we didn't want to complain. The steak was one of the best meals I can remember and the portions are massive! My husband had to admit defeat and leave some of his lasagne, which is unheard of! I managed to eat it all because it was so delicious but could hardly stand up afterwards!
