Our second visit to this fantastic venue- and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely friendly staff, excellent food - not your usual roadside fare, definitely a step ( or two) up. Our dog was brought her own bowl of water too. A very special place.

We have been dining at the restaurant for years and it has been our go to special occasion place. We recently went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were really underwhelmed by the menu and the quality of the food. We are vegetarian and there is always a few veggie / vegan menu options, which is always welcome. The starters were delicious and there were a good range of veggie/vegan choices. There were 2 main course options - pasta or a veggie burger. We ordered one of each so we could compare and contrast. The burger was £20 and was absolutely nothing special. It was a commercially made burger in a commercially made bun. It was served with 1 lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato and it looked very sad. I have had way better at Smash Burger. The pasta was ok. Dessert was also grim. The Paris Brest, was dry, solid and tasteless and the knickerbocker glory was a mishmash of cheap tasting strawberry ice cream, fruit and smashed meringue - which seemed to have come out of a packet.

Excellent welcome from land lady Margaret A very talented lady as the decor inside the pub proves. Staff polite and helpful . Very friendly place locals happy to share their enthusiasm for their rejuvenated community Pub. Another local shared how good the food is and from what we saw all looked very tasty with thoughtful presentation. We will be back to eat with friends to support this unique place . No longer called The Drovers now the Cockerel new name new vision new approach

We came for Saturday lunch after a beautiful walk to Wistman's Woods. Staff were very friendly and efficient and even though it was busy and we hadn't reserved we received a table in the restaurant. The menu was varied and the food was wonderful. This accompanied by their locally brewed Ale made our lunch memorable. We came back in the afternoon after another long walk and enjoyed their lovely scones and tea and took a souvenir pack of their Ales On Sunday we returned and even though their Sunday roasts were fully booked we managed to get a seat and enjoyed the light lunch menu, consisting of homemade sausage roll, quiche and a very delicious soup. Compliments to the chef!

Lovely little spot next to the canal tow path with easy parking. Good range on the menu and nice outdoor but covered seating options. However it definitely feels like your classic captive audience cafe, being that there are few other options nearby. We had a brie, chutney and bacon panini (around £9) and a bacon bap with added sausage (also around the £9 mark). The food was hot and tasted good but for £9 somethings felt lacking. The bacon fat wasn't trimmed, there was no kind of garnish and for close to a tenner I'd expect a better quality bread roll. In truth, it looked like something you might find in a lay by than in a cute cafe, but it did taste good and both bacon and sausages were good quality. Similarly, the brie was good and the panini was tasty. I think small touches could hugely elevate the offerings to reflect the cost, as our two sandwiches and two coffees cost £22, which seems a lot.

What an amazing welcome at the Thorverton Arms for our group of 17 bellringers on our way to ring the 10 bells at Thorverton Church, when we arrived before our ring and enjoyed coffee and tea. The lunch we had after ringing was superb, every meal choice was of the highest standard, hot and appetising. It was even better that some could choose a smaller potion, though even these were of a good size. Sweets were to die for, the Eton Mess Cheesecake was exceptional. All the staff under the direction of Mandy were courteous, always smiling and able to satisfy every need of all our bellringers.
