Filthy cold venue. Dirty floors and radiators that were barely warm. Ladies toilet basically clean but surfaces filthy. Metal seats on a cold day chilled me to the bone on an already freezing cold venue. I inviting menu. £9 for jacket potatoes with uninspiring fillings. The place looks so dirty I didn’t risk the breakfast idea. We didn’t bother and left hungry. Ordered hot chocolate. Watery instant drink smothered in synthetic aerosol cream… absolutely vile. LOTTERY FUNDED???? Mmmmmm

Excellent service and Big Breakfast. The chef "Nathaniel" cooked the best "hash browns" I have ever tasted and the poached egg, bacon, and tomatoes were cooked to perfection. Thank you Heartlands for providing a clean, spacious, theme cafe with pleasant friendly staff. I will return and tell all my friends about my joyful experience.

We arrived on a Sunday morning on our way back from organising the Lands End 100 in Cornwall. The cafe, which is a little hidden away, is in a converted sawmill with some of the old machines still in place. The breakfasts we had were very tasty and well presented and arrived promptly. The pots of tea came with nice blue porcelain cups and the staff were friendly too.

Situated in a great place, food is great quality albeit a little pricy . The board says tell us if you have allergies etc.. I asked for a plain cheese sandwich and was told yes it would be a childs cheese sandwich. When it arrived looked beautiful but the salad was covered in a sauce I asked what it was and was told Honey.. I said I mentioned I was diabetic. Sorry I can't eat it. No one offered to reemberce for the half plate of food I could not eat. I would expect when served and having told I was diabetic it should have been mentioned as could have said hold the sauce.. very disappointed.. staff training I think .

Mondays are walk days for the Naylors so a hearty, freshly cooked breakfast is an essential start before heading off to Tehidy Woods. Sadly the Wheal Play (soft play) next door was closed on this very rainy and cold day, so we went to Red River Cafe instead at Heartlands. Two of us had the Biscoff Hot Chocolate special for £4.25 - the best hot chocolate I can remember ever having, with cream, caramel, crumbled Biscoff etc. Although it was too early for lunch, the chef very kindly cooked some chips for our grandchildren, and we had some chocolate brownies too.

Had a very nice lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Nothing wrong with the food or the service, burgers were lovely, amazing desserts, staff all friendly and welcoming. It's a lovely quirky setting too. The only minor gripe was that there was no bar service as the waiting staff on duty were all under 18 and obviously can't do bar work because of this!

Having a couple of hours to kill in Pool, and intrigued by Red River Cafe’s Instagram posts and their promise of locally sourced, quality food, I went for a Thursday lunch. Upon entering, it took several minutes before someone noticed me and offered me a table, despite it being quiet. I got a crumpled, slightly dirty paper menu and ordered a cappuccino, Brie and bacon sandwich on toasted ciabatta bread with a side salad, along with Kettles cheese and onion crisps. The coffee is from the “Cornish coffee company” and was perfectly fine. The ciabatta, on the other hand, was very, very hard and there was no sauce in the sandwich. I feel like a Brie and bacon combo isn’t hard to get right, and this was very far off the mark. If you must order it, I advise you to get it untoasted and to bring your own hot chilli jam. The salad was much too big to eat with your hands, and I had to request cutlery from the waiter. Later, I asked for a flat white and must have been misunderstood as the waiter came back to tell me they’d have to charge for it, to which I replied in bemusement, “of course.” Though I was there for over an hour more I never got the flat white. Another gentleman waited at his table for 15 minutes before someone noticed him (again, there was hardly anyone there) and gave him a menu. The cakes looked pretty good, but I wouldn’t go there for a meal again. As a building, it’s got lots of potential to be an interesting and quirky coffee shop - there are few other go to places in the area (Mollys is quirky but perhaps too much so for my taste, the Croust Hut was closed. 100% Go there if in the area instead). If you value food and service, I’d skip it. If you value a place out of the rain for coffee and cake, then it may well be for you. Perhaps some of the £500,000 heartlands received as a grant could be used to change that impression.

Visited Heartlands which this cafe is next door to. Parking was tricky as our car with roof box is over the 2.1 meter barrier to the car park. Fortunately there was a car boot on and after 13:15 they don't charge on Wednesdays so we were lucky. It's a big space with traditional character. Nice food and kids size portions of needed. Quite a few families as next to a play park so a good spot for families with no frills.

We are from the extremely busy Wadebridge /Padstow area and to escape the haords of people we came to this area as we know its not so manic and wouldn't have to queue to eat. So the Red River at Heartlands on a Sunday was a sensible choice. Ordered and the food arrived very quickly and the girl taking the orders was polite and efficient. The food was very nice and not expensive. I think they must have been understaffed as one girl was doing everything but this left lots of tables uncleared from previous customers. Not her fault she only has one pair of hands. If there was more staff it would have made it all look more professional. Will come back again when in the area

My wife and I revisited this restaurant have been several months before. Tapas night is the last Friday each month and on our first visit we realised between 5.30 and 6.30 was a special offer of reduced prices for each item. So on this occasion we took full advantage arriving at 5.30 as per our booking. The restaurant is in the old tin/copper mine buildings and has a tremendous inside with old machines setting the scene. We were welcomed and shown to our table by the staff who were courteous and friendly. The choice of tapas is wide and varied so our first difficulty was choosing which delights we would avail ourselves of. Potatoes prawns mushrooms whitebait just a few and when our tapas arrived all of our choices were well presented and tasted perfectly. We were very happy with the drinks available and at the conclusion of our meal the bill wad very reasonable. Definitely recommend this restaurant and it really makes a sound change from Indian and Chinese. A great night out

The last Friday in every month is tapas night. We have lived within 3 miles of Red River for 3 years and seen the signs saying we must try it but until last Friday and a visit by an old friend never have. We booked for 7pm so unfortunately missed their special offer therefore worth booking for 6pm. Right so 3 adults arrived and were shown to our pre booked table. Every where is clean and the building very interesting along with the old mining exhibits placed around the building. We were quickly contacted by our waitresses who took our drinks order and then when we were ready our food order. Each tapas is £5 and we had a selection of 6. The choice was varied and wide basically we had chicken whitebait mushrooms potato baras olives and bread and prawns with side orders of 2 x garlic bread a green salad and fries. Our drinks consisted of 2 pints of Tribute and a bottle of white wine and the total bill £56. Overall the food was brilliant well cooked and presented with all the flavours and tastes you would expect suffice to say we all felt well satisfied with nothing wasted. Very good value for money 3 very happy customers and all the staff attentative without being intrusive

Not surprising as there was only one girl doing everything, coffees, taking the money etc. However, the sandwiches we got and cakes were amazing! The egg mayo sandwich was in thick slices of bread and it was delicious. The bread tasted home baked and the mayo tasted ‘real’. The bakewell slice I had was really good too. We didn't know what to expect, my wife has been to the cafe a few times, but we'd not been to the grill and don't know anyone who had. We fancied a change from the other restaurants in Camborne and it was ideal. It was quiet, but it was a nice atmosphere and a much more interesting place than most restaurants. The service was good, not rushed and just right time between the courses. The food that we had was pretty simple, but it showed how good quality the ingredients are. The only issue was that my starter was a bit too filling and then the main too good to leave anything, so I was too full, but that is my fault. There are a few good places to eat in Camborne, but this is easily my favourite.

Two poached eggs with the darkest, richest yolks I have seen in a long time. Delicious crisp bacon, sausage and hogs pudding, fresh tomato, mushroom, beans and saute potatoes. I have a good appetite but I could not finish the meal.My friend chose chicken with pesto and salad in a large white baguette. The baguette was lovely bread, the chicken was tender and tasty. You should visit the café as part of a visit to the Heartlands development dedicated to Cornish tin mining heritage. The café is spacious and very accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs. The menu has a decent variety from the ubiquitous panini to burgers to pastys to soup to cake. The prices are very reasonable and the quality fresh. In short what is not to like about a decently sized pasty, fresh baked in a café, and served on a plate with cutlery for £3.50. TOP TIP: park in the correct car park, don't get upset about having to pay, and take the reminder slip with you as the café deducts the cost of parking off you bill. If you have children there is an awesome park with swings, slides, pirate ship and more. My nearly 4 year old can spend hours there, we regularly do, and she mingles with kids up to early teens doing the same. Other things to entertain includes the small indoor mining museum which will take about 40 minutes to wander through. The site often has 'stuff' happening in one of the surrounding rooms that is often worth sticking your head in to have a look at. There is also a garden celebrating the Cornish who took their skills around the world that is worth chill-axing in on a warm day.

This café at Heartlands has a captive clientele being in the centre of a mining heritage site with a magnificent playground and so perhaps thinks that it doesn't have to try. The food was mediocre and not that cheap but the supervisor seemed to be only interested in doing as little as possible and certainly wasn't interested in serving or helping the customers. If she had applied herself a little, customers could have been served so much quicker - and has no-one ever told her to smile?

Situated on the Heartlands site, this cafe is an ideal place to get refreshments. Food is freshly prepared and is very good value. The staff are very obliging. We will certainly visit again when in the area.

I visited with my frail, elderly mother who finds walking any distance or standing for a while very difficult. Disabled parking is still a distance from the cafe and when you get in through the doors you have to stand and look at the huge menu boards before sitting. There are no menus to sit in comfort and look at and you can't see the boards from the grey, unwelcoming dining area. My mother (as I'm sure anyone with mobility issues) struggled with this inconsiderate arrangement. The waiter looked like he didn't know what he was doing. He slopped my mum's coffee into her saucer and eventually brought her a napkin and didn't bother to clean his mess himself. It all seemed very amateur. No goodbye when we left. Small things go a long way with the elderly. We eat out together every week and will not be returning. There are much better places in the area to enjoy others company than a grey, depressing room.

I went here with my mum for a breakfast, we both really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and locally sources which is always a bonus. Slight expensive but definitely worth it

Been here before in a converted tin mine and cafe sits along side the old workings. Coffee was great and we went for the breakfast baps... all sourced locally and organic and it shows in the taste. We also had a couple of cookies which were great

Egg & Cress Baguette is usually a safe option for a fussy eater like me - until someone had the bright idea of serving it in a HOT baguette. The heat turned the filling into a sort of warm egg & cress soup - it looked disgusting. Needless to say, it remained uneaten. My partner's meal was adequate, and we enjoyed the industrial feel of the restaurant and the staff were friendly, so an 'average' mark rather than the one I was initially going to give.

After visiting the onsite hairdressers, it was lunch time so where better than the Red River Cafe. Greeted by two friendly male members of staff. Placed our order of a BLT and the Brie with salad. The food arrived quickly, although it had been cooked to order and was nicely presented and once again very good. Thank you. Pleasing to see a few others were eating here. Afterwards it was time to visit the shop, which has been completely revamped, and purchase a couple of birthday presents.

Thought we'd give the Red River Cafe a try today, just for a quick snack rather than a full on lunch.Bit of a limited lunchtime menu if Im honest. However, friendly staff and super quick service. If your looking for a big sandwich, then this is the place to go. The word "doorstop" doesnt come anywhere near to what can only be described as a monster of a Tuna & mayo sandwich. Massive!!! More like half a loaf!! Ann's pasties were good too. Dont know what Ann did for lunch!!Overall, great value for money, super clean, cheap and great location too. Ta Red River Cafe

Just called in for tea and cake. The cake was excellent, lemon and blackcurrant, and nice and moist (£1.95) Regarding the tea, I think that for £1.85, a pot of tea should be provided, not just a mug of hot water with a separate teabag on the side. I was provided with enough milk for maybe 3 cups but of course you can only have the one cup doing it this way, so not great value. I would have given it 3* but for the fact that plenty of local produce is on offer and it's not fair to judge it as a whole just because of such a brief visit.

Had lunch with friends and the food was good, hot and served with a smile. Price was a little high but acceptable. Surroundings were interesting as it is in the old workshop.

This was a completly spontaneous encounter for us but glad we popped in. Initially, we had a weird welcome as the two staff members behind the counter (although friendly) couldn't answer a simple question about the pasty we'd ordered (I asked what was in it). There seemed to be some internal politics that prevented my question being answered. They also tried to overcharge me at first. However, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as they may have been new staff members. Our wait time for said pasty and a BLT also seemed a bit excessive but, it was quite simply, they BEST pasty I have ever had!! It was amazingly flavoursome, a great size and I relished every bite. I'm sad there wasn't a sweet end but that's a tiny minor, subjective detail. Apparently the BLT was also well worth the wait. Would be five stars if the wait staff had been up to scratch and a bit more professional. Will definately be taking people here for the pasties!!

Nice ambience, nicely done. Food was good and the banoffee fool was one of the best desserts I've ever tasted! My only complaint is that the food took ages to come, and with 6 children in our party they became bored and hungry whilst waiting.

It is worth visiting Heartlands JUST for the Cafe* because the food and drink (& environment) is so great. We have sampled it at morning, lunch and afternoon so far and cannot wait to go again now it is also open as a 'grill' in the evenings! If I was being super picky and LOOKING for fault, I would say that some of the younger staff members serving could be more engaging/attentive/friendly - but that said; a couple of staff members were extra brilliant which sort of 'balanced out' those who were less engaging!*(Do go to Heartlands for more than the Cafe though! It is fabulous - see my review for the Site generally for more on that)

At late notice for their Friday night grill evening (we arrived just before they open at 5.30) they fitted in our party of 8 in their bar area. Wonderful food, that catered for our finicky eaters, and good service from very professional but friendly staff. I have bookmarked their location for another time!!

Went here with a Groupon voucher which made it excellent value. The cooked breakfast was very tasty and the best hogs pudding I've ever had. Normal pricing would make this a more expensive trip. Tea and coffee are additional costs whereas some cafes include this. Tip for visitors; take the tear off slip from the car park ticket to the cafe to get this set off against the cost of your meal. Staff could be more attentive.

After reading the advertisements and perusing the Menu, we made the decision to eat at the Red River Grill on Friday night. We are so pleased we did! Very attentive staff, well presented, cheerful and happy to serve. We were shown to our table and very shortly our drinks arrived followed by a starter. Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress. Two of us ordered the Pigs Fry and the other the Sirloin Steak, which arrived freshly cooked to order, hot and well presented. What a tasty meal - Hogs pudding, sausage, bacon, pork loin, mushrooms, tomatoes with a side of fries. This was really enjoyable. The pork loin was well cooked, not tough and chewy at all. Three clean plates were collected by the waitress. My husband said the sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, had loads of flavour, and there was no gristle or fat. An excellent cut of meat. Puddings - well, we couldn't pass on these, so opted for the baked vanilla cheesecake and the hazlenut and banoffee fool. These were delicious. It's really good to find somewhere which offers something different to eat and doesn't cost a fortune. Heartlands is a good choice for families as well as couples. Parking is free by the way. In fact you can park right outside the Red River Cafe when dining on particular nights. The residents of Pool and the surrounding area are very lucky to have this facility right on their doorstep. Do hope more people will use the Red River Cafe/Grill as they don't know what they are missing! Well done Heartlands and see you again soon!

Me & my family visited this cafe today & found the food to be good but the staff to lack the knowledge needed to deal with any additional requirements or allergies relating to food. My sister has a dairy allergy & when she enquired what was available (prompted by the posters saying they could handle such questions) a non confident response came back from the person serving, while 2 other staff members were slow to say anything. This was sorted out but if you say you can deal with any food allergies etc you need to back this up

This cafe must serve one of the best breakfasts in Cronwall. You can tell that they use local ingredients as for as possible from the overall quality. Breakfast is not cheap but you get what you pay for. All this and Fairtrade coffee, tea and hot chocolate to boot!

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

Went for a coffee and was told could only have take away as it was 15:40 on a Sunday, my wife and I are both disabled and I have an ostomy and asked to use the loo and was told I could only if I buy something, so it cost me 7 quid for two takeaway coffees just to use the loo....thanks national trust

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
