The Devonport is know for its amazing food (and beautiful backdrop), and goodness it did not disappoint. We were there for Mother’s Day, there was 6 of us. I had the mussels with gorgeous thick cut chips. My brother and mum had the Skate special, which was a huge portion of fish with caper butter and chips. It was outstanding! My step mum had the Haddock and chips and she said it was the best ‘fish and chips - fish’ she’s ever had! She is not easily pleased. My husband had the paella and he was so impressed, the fish was so fresh and juicy. Fish is their show stopper, so I’d always try and order some kind of fish/seafood. But overall, amazing food and fantastic hospitality. Social shout-out to the Manager who was very knowledgable of the wine and port that The Devonport had available. Will be coming back more and more - I feel very lucky to live locally. Thanks guys!

If you’re going around Kingsand or stay nearby, you must at least visit this historic pub. We had cornish pastries which were very lovely and massive as well as some drinks. The place was very beautiful as the pub is seafront. We went there when it was raining quite heavily and windy but i bet that it would be very nice when it’s summer or spring.

The Devonport Inn on the Cleave has a unique position in this historic, charming and traffic free Cornish village yards from the small beach that looks out across the Rame peninsular. On a sunny day one can sit out, eat well at great value from the pub restaurant or sample local real ales and fine wines from the bar. Try one of our light, hand baked Cornish pasties and a pint of local beer or fresh.Local Seafood is our speciality such as Lobster, potted crab, Moules Marinieres, or river Exe oysters accompanied with a glass of Cremant or chilled white wine. DOG FRIENDLY We are very dog friendly and our four legged friends are welcome (with an attached, well behaved human) throughout the pub. If our floors are too hard ask to borrow one of our doggie blankies, we also have treats on the bar that you can help yourself too. GLUTEN FREE With the owner being Coeliac we understand how hard it can be to eat out safely. Most of our menu is gluten free or can be adapted to suit.

We stayed for a week in Cawsand and while we tried several places during that time the two evenings we ate here were the best meals of the trip. Really welcoming people and lovely friendly staff. This is a great little pub with a stunning view, a lovely spot to have a drink and a chat with friends, which is what a pub is all about. With limited space both inside and out at the height of the season it gets extremely busy. So if you want a table for food definitely book. When we went for a drink we were lucky enough to get four metal stools to sit on to look out to sea and enjoy the balmy evening and the seaside atmosphere. It's the pubs position that makes this pub. I would recommend going any time out of season.

We have been to this pub many times, sometimes we walk from Mount Edgecombe and sometimes we drive. The food is great and there are a lot of Gluten Free Options and they are listed on the menu which for me is brilliant as most of the time you tend to feel like an after thought, as in most places they can’t be bothered to put it on the menu and you have to ask. What a treat! When you walk in you see the Chalk Board with a fantastic array of the pub's food offerings including the specials for the day. Taste buds alerted you move to the bar with a selection of real ale and ciders along with other options if the first two drink categories don't float your boat. We had booked a table inside but we couldn't get over how many people and dogs were sitting outside on wood stools overlooking the beach drinking a pint accompanied by a DA Cornish Pasty! The food was fantastic! For starters, my son and I did a deal to share a DA Pasty and the most fantastic Moules "Tom Yum" (lemongrass, chilli, galangal, lime) with homemade sourdough bread! The mains were fantastic too. The butcher’s pork sausages, mashed potatoes, onion gravy, and beer-battered Cornish haddock with ‘proper’ triple-cooked beef dripping chips went down well with the younger members of the party. Myy wife and I had different fish specials - Skate Wings with the triple-cooked chips and Hake with Coconut Rice respectively. I sampled all 3 types of fish but the orientla-inspired Hake was superb! As usual, I still found enough room for their melt-in-the-middle chocolate desert with homemade white chocolate ice cream. The rest of the party ate different combinations of the ice-cream. The day before visiting the local dog walkers had all created the Devonshire Arms as the best eaterie in the area. I'm sure I'd find it hard to find better!

I'm wondering whether we just caught this place on an off night based on the other reviews! We attended as a couple on a Sunday in October for an early dinner sitting. The good, the atmosphere of the pub is nice. The food we found to be fairly basic, whilst perhaps better than the other pubs directly in Kingsand we didn't find it to be anything special. The prices charged suggested that it'd be a nicer meal than what we received which was a real shame. There were only two servers on, they seemed rushed and didn't have time to put any care into what they were doing, we ate and left as quickly as we could. Three stars from us, as it is just that, fine, or at least it was on a Sunday evening in October.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

Last meal.of our holiday. What a load of rubbish!! Freshly cooked fish and chips were stone cold 5 mins after collection, greasy batter, chips abysmal, possibly the worst fish and chips ever!!! And so expensive 😫 I certainly advise everyone to avoid the place
