We have been to Rock several times but hadn’t been to the Rock Inn. We arrived for lunch after a 5 hour journey and it was just what we needed. Relaxed, great view, nice service and good food. Nothing fancy but spot on. I loved my nachos with chilli which came with sour cream and salsa on the side.We will definitely come back.Eat on the terrace, weather permitting to enjoy the fabulous view.

Well we decided to go for lunch we where looking for fish and seafood, when we arrive the chap on the door I think his daughter told us his name was ( Jeremy) but anyway he was very good he found us an outside table, we ordered the hake but the delivery had not arrived but offered us sole and bass,, I had sole my wife bass, a nice bottle of wine sadly I only had a little as I was driving,, everything was lovely friendly, I've run my own bars and restaurants in the Southampton area and was impressed, OK didn't have hake but that can happen, Reading a few of the other negative reviews I can assure you we where happy and would recommend it I specialise in Mediterranean and fish and seafood and was happy with the fish, thank you Jeremy and girls for your service ,,

As part of our long weekend staycation we chose to book into the The Rock Inn for Friday Night. We arrived a few minutes ahead of our booked time but the team fitted us in quickly despite all the Covid requirements The food and service could not be faulted. The Crispy Duck and Porthilly Mussels starters were delightful, the steaks we chose were cooked perfectly and as mentioned the deserts were a step too far on this occasion. The meal was great quality and portions more than adequate.Having thoroughly enjoyed our time we will return at some point in the future and this time sample the special deserts.

They don’t take bookings here so you just have to turn up and hope. The terrace is lovely, but the inside tables have a good view too. Good Covid procedures and practices in evidence. Plentiful choice of light bites or larger meals. Good drinks list and choice including tap drinks. Service was friendly and efficient. Prices were good too and we left feeling well tended and cared for on our visit.

This is a regular place for us to visit when in the area. This time we were able to introduce 2 friends to the Rock. Good selection on the menu and as usual the specials board had something to tempt. It may not offer a fancy menu but a wide selection of well cooked food is such a bonus these days. Definitely worth the visit.

Covid measures well implemented, our first visit since lockdown lifted. Ordered our usual ...the Rock burger - so disappointed. Not the usual we expected we received a burger with a few small pieces Lettuce, drizzle of mayonnaise and a small handful of skinny fries for £14.95!! You used to get a tasty side salad with dressing, pot of relish, coleslaw, gherkin with a decent serving of chunky chips! A full plate! Not anymore.Cutting back to save money but charging high prices will not retain your old customers!

Last week after a splendid walk on the nearby beach we spotted this as a place for a coffee. We were impressed by the reception we got both as to taking our details and warning us we might have a wait because they were busy but we said as long as we could have one of the available tables overlooking the water we were happy. In fact service was quick, friendly and efficient and we also ordered a snack which we really enjoyed. Because of this we went again today for what amounted to brunch. Everything we enjoyed the first time was repeated and we were delighted with the service and food. Nothing we had was in any way complicated but it was made with good ingredients, tasted good and we both agreed we could be become addicted to this establishment. We will certainly return

Staff & distancing were great. Food was average at best but everything well over priced, I assume just because where it is. Same drinks in the Mariners up the road in a much higher end eatery were better priced. Very unlikely to return or recommend. Reduce the prices by 30-40% then you are paying for what you get.

The Rock Inn is one of our favourite restaurants and we frequently visit whilst on holiday in Rock. It has always lived up to our expectations and we have never been disappointed. There is so much choice on the menu that we have difficulty in deciding what to have! The food is excellent and the staff are always accommodating and friendly. We never feel rushed and can take our time to enjoy the occasion. We will be back again next year!

It's been a year since we last visited but despite all the current restrictions the eating experience was as good as ever. The crab salad (our go to main course) was as good as ever, as was everything else served. Whilst others have reduced their menu offering the Rock Inns specials board was another menu in itself. Staff very friendly and attentive, views beautiful even on a dull day, Highly recommended. I always say with trip advisor go with the trend of ratings not individual comments which may be dubious or with hidden agendas!!!

After many years of coming to The Rock Inn we were very disappointed with the meals and indifferent service. Steak was very chewy, with no flavour, mussels were good but the sauce was watery & tasteless, the chips were undercooked and flabby. The waitresses didn't seem bothered & one was wearing her mask on her chin. Won't be coming back. Such a shame.

Well what a disappointment. We visited tonight for our Son’s birthday. The food and service was appalling. We paid over £100 for what was essentially school dinner slop. We noticed other tables left plates full of food too but with limited options and current time restraints, we had little choice but to stay. 3 out of 4 meals served to the table, then the waitress started serving someone else and returned with the 4th about 10 minutes later. The chilli was greasy and over-cooked. The curry was bland, undercooked and was served with a greasy poppadom and shop bought cheap naan (which incidentally came out 10 minutes after). The chicken in the bacon burger was drier than Ghandi’s flip flop. The pie was OK but the mash it was served with was sloppy. The atmosphere was very much like a low-grade cafe and it’s obvious you’re cashing in on the location and ripping people off. We understand that COVID has forced establishments to make adjustments but what should have been a lovely meal, was extremely underwhelming and left a very bitter taste in our mouth... literally!

we chose to celebrate my husbands birthday at the Rock Inn as we have eaten there many many times on our holiday visits to Rock Well it was a very disappointing meal with the scampi and chips looking more like a child’s meal at a budget restaurant and the muscles having no flavour what so ever. We have been going to Cornwall for years and always make the trip to rock inn at least once per trip. The food used to be so good and we look forward to attending as one of our favourites. Last years meal was disappointing but we thought that would be a one off, unfortunately it wasn’t.For starters we had the squid and duck, 4 pieces of squid and some limp lettuce didn’t warrant the price tag and the duck could have been much better with 3 rock hard pancake rolls.A main of scampi was chosen and when it arrived I thought I was In Wetherspoons with a handful of scampi and quite frankly the worst chips I’ve ever eaten. The mussels were pale and had no flavour and were served in what could be best described as dish water- oh and we’re partnered with the awful chips I am afraid to say that we are done with the rock inn especially with the Tap Room next door being fantastic - go there

We came here for lunch on the August bank holiday Saturday. We hadn’t booked and luckily snagged the last table for two (the Mariners was full). The terrace is lovely but we weren’t able to sit outside as it was raining. The dining room is fine - functional rather than attractive. We ordered two of the specials - prawn linguine and the chicken and mushroom pie. The linguine was over cooked and the prawns were okay, but would have been nicer to have a few large prawns instead of lots of tiny ones. At £18.75, it was very overpriced. The pie was fine but nothing to write home about. It came with a side of chips and veg which were fine (frozen chips not homemade, could have been cooked longer, were quite greasy). The service was fine. I would say this restaurant is very overpriced for the experience and the quality of the food, so wouldn’t recommend it. The setting is nice though so would be a nice location for some drinks on the terrace on a sunny day.

We have been, many times, to the Rock Inn over the years and we have always had an enjoyable experience. We had booked a table for 6 but a few days before, a change of circumstance meant that there were going to be 7 of us. Knowing how busy they are, particularly in the current circumstances with social distancing, I feared the extra person may not be accommodated but Jeremy came up trumps (not easy, I know!) and managed to fit him in. My gluten free 17 year old grandson can always find something suitable on the menu and between us, I think we have managed to try almost everything on offer, all delicious. No one checked at any stage how our food was. Our food was ok, pretty standard pub style, but my husbands fish was tasteless and he would have welcomed the option to feedback. Food was alright but I have had better steak sandwiches. The service was not not great. I asked for vinegar which I didn't get so had to ask again. We visited here on NYE lunchtime and weren’t disappointed by the food, staff or venue. Sadly the clientele of the 30/40’s with very small children who sat behind us let the side down.Children sitting on tables, wresting in the middle of the table and then DRINKING from ketchup and sauce bottles while the parents carried on talking after giggling about it, appalled us. We were a family of 3 generations even our son & girlfriend in their 20’s were horrified!!!Then as our food was served we were all tucking in, the father of the “feral children” proudly announced on return from the toilet with this young child what she had dropped off in there!!!!Sadly this generation of 30/40’s need to concentrate on teaching their children how to behave and teach manners from a young age.We felt so sorry for the staff as they couldn’t do or say a thing as no doubt the keyboard warriors would have their say. Mind we were delighted to see one of the waitress’s did remove the sauce bottles! My only suggestion would be to change the sign on the door to only well behaved CHILDREN are allowed, as ALL the dogs including ours were a delight!!!!!

Went here for late lunch. The staff found two separate tables for six adults and five children despite it being busy so a good start. Drinks and food orders placed we sat and chatted. The children received their orders and five of the six adults. One fish and chips had been missed off the order. The others tucked in whilst my wife waited patiently for hers. I too had the fish and chips which struck me as very small. Tiny bit of fish which resembled a triangular fish finger but obviously the tail. I put it down as just small portions for this tourist hot spot. It was gone in a blink at which point the other fish and chips arrived and the fish was hanging off either end of the plate. Hmmmm. We suggested I might have got a child’s meal. With the exception of one lady with black hair who said ‘I thought it looked small when I brought it out’ the response was appalling. There was some discussion and another member of staff started by saying the chef was adamant it was an adults dish and then said the manager agreed to charge it as a kids meal ‘because he can’t be bothered to argue’. We also mentioned it earlier to a younger surly girl collecting the plates who said ‘I don’t know - I only took the order’. Captive audience springs to mind here. They know they’ll always be busy given the location so why bother with any level of customer service. Shame because the attitude of the staff otherwise let down what was a reasonable meal. They lost out on a tip, any repeat custom from us and a less than favourable Trip Advisor review. Avoid is my advice.

Balti curry was tomatoes on a plate with chunks of chicken. No favour or curry spices at all. Feedback I gave in the restaurant with no option to change. Extremely disappointing. Spoilt our evening.

Arrived and stood waiting to be seated, 3 barmaids/waitresses standing chatting. Eventually one came over and we asked if it was ok to just have drinks and she said sure just take a seat and we will come and take your order. The room wasn't even a third full and we took a seat and after ten minutes we got up and left as the three ladies were still chatting and laughing at the bar. We remember it as the Upper Deck and had some lovely memories of those times. This however was not one of them

An ideal location looking towards Padstow, with great balcony views. Did not eat here so cannot comment but location and ambience perfect.

Only had drinks here although it looks as if it is more set up for food. The terrace has beautiful views over the river estuary to Padstow. The drinks were delivered to the table speedily so full marks for service! The road into Rock is narrow in places and sometimes cars have to squeeze past each other. There is chargeable public parking at the end of the road past the Inn.

Nice big car park to an oldy worldy pub and a warm welcome from the waitress who guided my wife and I to a table then took our order for drinks. After only a couple of minuets the drinks arrived with the food menus, it took about 15 minets for the food to arrive and it was first class. all in all a very nice evening we will cirtainly return

We visited here in July, and we cold not fault this place. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was driving so I asked if they had any non alcoholic cocktails, unfortunately they didn't however, the waitress kindly invented a non alcoholic peach mix in a cocktail glass for me, and it was very tasty indeed. The food was delicious and good value for money, the cajun monkfish I could have eaten every day!! We will definitely return in the future.

We ate here yesterday and were really pleased. The food was excellent, we had a huge crispy fish and chips, and the chicken burger. The chicken burger was a really good size, with two pieces of back bacon and lots of salad and fries. The staff were lovely and managed to fit us in despite being really busy. Views were amazing too.

Beautiful location and view and as you go up to the restaurant the smell of insane food was enough to making a dedicated veggie eat meat. The selection was amazing, except there wasn't a massive selection of vegan meals, but what there was made up for that. I got the Butternut Squash, Potato and Lentil Curry and sis,,, I'd kill someone for this food. It is some of the most beautiful food I've ever eaten and the family I was with had the most beautiful food, including a rainbow salad.

Terrible management and overpriced. You’re essentially paying for a fantastic view over the estuary. The food is ok.. My family waited a long time for the food but to be clear our issue is not with the waitresses or preparation but the management. One meal we ordered was a chicken linguine. When it arrived the chicken was very tough but we were reluctant to endure a longer wait if we returned it. At the end of the meal my wife had only eaten the pasta and one piece of chicken. We spoke to the waitress and explained the situation and asked for a 50 percent reduction on the one meal. The waitress came back and basically said that since we’d eaten some of it there would be no reduction. We asked for the manager. The manager came out and argued with us about what had been eaten, she basically made us feel like liars. There was a lack of professionalism, grace or customer service here. It felt like we were talking to the manager of a motorway service station. She refused to budge and decided to knock a small amount off. We paid and will not return. Probably the worst customer interaction I have ever experienced at a restaurant .

We stopped at the Rock Inn for lunch. One of the meals was put in to order incorrectly and as a result of the food being cooked fresh, one member of our group had to wait ages for their meal. In fact the rest of the group had nearly finished by the time it arrived. Our waitress did apologise several times but we also ordered two vegetarian paninis (mozeralla and pesto) and unfortunately one of them came out with some flakes of tuna on it. Since we already had a mix-up and were waiting for food, we didn't want to make a fuss - luckily one of the two who ordered was not a vegetarian and didn't mind eating the contaminated panini. These mix-ups were a bit of a shame as the food was delicious and because of the beautiful views from the outside terrace of Rock, the River Camel and Padstow, we would come back.

Cream tea was fine -generous helpings of clotted cream and jam (not always the case with cream teas), the place was clean and tidy, however the service was offhand and the chairs outside are some of the most uncomfortable I've had the misfortune to sit in! However, Rock is beautiful and this venue did make the most of it.

Visited twice during a recent break in the area. We always enjoy the food and service has always been excellent. This year it was a little haphazard. The people were pleasant enough although one particularly friendly waitress seems to have left this summer and it did make something of a difference maybe just because we had got used to her but the ladies we were served by seemed rushed and slightly distracted. One evening two of the female waiting staff dropped and smashed a couple of trays of glasses. Not the end of the world and it was cleaned up but it put us a little on guard as we had a toddler with us and there were some dogs in the table next to us when the glasses shattered. No damage done thankfully. We also had some delay on both occasions when we requested the bill and on the second occasion gave up waiting and paid as we made our way out. The food was good and we will continue to come back. Just a shame they seemed to be having two off nights front of house.

My wife and I made the trip from Padstow to The Rock bar. We crossed on the little ferry and as you arrive you can see the Bar up on the hillside. We managed to get a table out on the terrace which was superb and the view was incredible. We were told by a member of staff to take a seat and someone would be out to take our order. After a wait of approx 30 mins and constant attempts to get the attention of a very rude waitress, I decided to go to the bar and place our order. I can only describe the bar area as mayhem. Mostly young girls serving with clearly no skills in the restaurant or bar industry. The time I was stood waiting two of the staff repeatedly dropped drinks smashing glasses and not in to much rush to clean it up. Eventually I got served and the the lady serving me asked where were sat so I pointed and she said our order would be brought over. Again after waiting an eternity I decided to get our wine from the bar myself. It had just been left on the bar. The glasses need changing as they have seen better days and were not fit for purpose. On the whole the staff could do with some proper training and a lesson or two on customer service. Real shame as it could be a super experience all round.
