I am not sure what was the worst thing about this place? First impressions were OK, just OK but not too bad. Menu looked good especially as there were a few options for veggies as well as the usual meat heads, not a surprise given that it is next door to a meat farm shop. Service was luke warm, not much of a greeting, but we got the menus quickly. Ordered a meat based breakfast for one diner and was going to order the veggie equivalent until I saw smashed avo on sour dough with poached eggs - one of my favorites. That sealed the deal. Plus two large americano coffees - black no sugar. Once breakfast had arrived we were pretty much ignored. The 'restaurant' was quiet another couple in for coffee and a lady on her own. Not exactly busy. The waitress found plenty of time to be on her phone though. Sadly the coffee was bitter, sour and not very nice - disappointing - but it is often the coffee that lets these places down. It tasted stale. But my breakfast was dire and the meaty one was greasy and just OK. Not once did the waitress make eye contact or check on us or our food. Maybe that should have been a red flag. Having pushed the dried, tasteless avo around the plate, tried to eat the sourdough that resembled white bread without a hint of sour, and cut into one snotty runny poached egg and another that was rock solid, I gave up. I waited and waited. In the end I took the massacred breakfast to the counter and put it down. Still the waitress didn't meet my eye. She did acknowledge that I brought my plate to the counter, with a thank you, and then proceeded to ring it all up at the till. As I wasn't ready to pay and had actually returned the horrible/dry breakfast she simply comped it. That would be fine, but it was my first meal of the day. There was no apology or offer to get me something else, no customer care. I got a glass of water and returned to our table. We settled the bill, nearly £30 for one mediocre breakfast and two horrible coffees. No one seemed bothered. Looking at past reviews I can see other complaints about the sour dough and avo. Wish I'd read the reviews first and not wasted money here. Won't be back.

Visited on the way home from Weymouth at 11.35am. Young lady informed us that breakfast was served until 11.30am and lunch at 12 noon. So we would need to come back later! Ridiculous! But after using the toilet was quite glad - wet floor grubby overall! We carried on our journey and stopped at George’s garden cafe on the A37 Gurney Slade.

Had the standard breakfast. The bacon was a strange texture - the edge that should be crispy was the right colour but soft. An average sausage but not very meaty and whole breakfast was warm not hot. Expensive for what we received.

On my way back from visiting a client I called here to get some lunch. My plan was to get a sandwich in this Farm Shop, but after seeing one of my favourite plates on the Specials Menu in the café, I decided I would eat my main meal of the day at lunchtime, and have a snack later. That option is only really open when my Partner is away, and as she was visiting family ‘up-north’, it meant I would avoid cooking today. The Farm Shop, in the main building, was well stocked and I did get a ‘Southern Fried Sweet Chilli Chicken and Salad’ wrap. On arrival I failed to notice a smaller building which housed ‘The Den’ which was the café. So, I walked into café and obeyed the sign inviting me to “Wait to be Seated”. After a minute a lady appeared from the kitchen and asked me if I was wanted lunch (I assumed, from this, that the café does take-away food too). The lady cleared the smallest available table (which was for four) and then provided me with the menu. I was then asked if I wanted a drink, I did and requested “strong tea”. Ah … so back to the ‘favourite plate’; it was Boeuf Bourguignon. I can’t resist this particular plate especially in the dead of winter, it is so warming … and fulfilling in every meaning of the word. There were other plates that I would have been happy to order but … with Bourguignon on the menu … not a chance. My tea arrived; a small pot with enough tea for two substantial cups. The lady advised that two tea bags had been used to accommodate my request for a strong brew. Given time to steep the strength was fine but, because I am very picky about tea, it didn’t have a great flavour for me, however it was not unpleasant. The flavour of the Bourguignon was however spot-on, really excellent and served in a separate bowl, placed on the dinner-plate. The bowl was surrounded by peas, carrots and ‘Hasselback’ potatoes; the latter being a type of baked potato that is cut about halfway through into fan-like slices. I have had them before in a very posh restaurant years ago and they were superb, having been very thinly sliced, so that they were like crisps. Today the slices were thicker, and if I had been a Hasselback virgin I would have found them ‘delightful’, but for me they were just ‘good’. The Bourguignon did have a couple of chunks of meat that would have benefitted from better trimming, but the beef was very tender and it was a generous serving for £11.95. It was excellent value and made a really very good lunchtime meal with the veg. I ‘didn’t dessert’, as I was replete, probably because I rarely ‘eat big’ at lunchtime. I will visit here again and take my Partner here as part of a day out in Somerset.

Such a shame this place has really gone downhill. The breakfasts used to be amazing ! Ours was worse than a supermarket breakie and double the price. Only got one egg when menu stated 2, beans cheap and luke warm, toast cold. All thrown on a tiny plate. £36 for 3 of us. Definitely won’t be returning.

Decided to drop in for a snack before visiting the Farm Shop. Despite a chalk board asking us to wait to be seated and despite their being at least three staff members with little to do! we were nit acknowledged atall. Gave up and found a table......after five minutes we walked out! No acknowledgement, no menus offered, not so much as a smile or greeting from the waiting or kitchen staff. Food on display was minimal and looked tired and stale. Certainly won't visit again - shame, used to be of a very much higher standard. Has definitely lost it's way. Very poorly managed (if atall!).

Visited recently for a roast. My sister described it as mediocre which hits the nail on the head. There is a standard option and an ultimate option - apparently ultimate is larger. Thinking we wouldn’t manage a large portion we went for standard, which would be better described as a mini roast. A table next to us had a kids portion which didn’t look much different in size. Most of the ingredients not home made. Yorkshire puds clearly out of a pack, powdered gravy which is unforgivable in a restaurant in my book. Very pale roast parsnips and two small roast potatoes with a chip counting as the third (we were told they serve by number). I suspect the potatoes were frozen aunt Bessie’s. Id compare the standard to a supermarket cafe, which is fine if you’re nipping in after the weekly shop but we had higher hopes for a cafe attached to a farm shop. Those hopes were dashed. We did get plenty of veg on the side, although it was overcooked. The redeeming feature was the service. Lovely staff and we were given free mince pies on the way out which were left from a sampling evening. This cafe could be so much more.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch but there was actually no Sunday lunch. We rung and booked a table and they didn’t mention they didn’t actually do a roast dinner. When we arrived we got given the regular menu and had to order from that. We were all very disappointed as we were looking forward to a roast dinner. We all ordered and waited 25 minutes for our food. When it did arrive the two plates of fish and chips were over cooked and tasteless. The chicken burger bun was also half burnt and so was the corner of the chicken which wasn’t great tasting either. We did tell the waitress when she asked how our food was and all she said was I will tell them off in a joking way. We then went and paid and we didn’t get offered any sort of discount or apology for the food we received. Not a very good meal out especially for a Sunday.

I have always popped in here when waiting for my vehicles to be serviced/MOT'd at a garage up the road. Been coming here since 2008 and it's always been great. This morning I was really looking forward to breakfast. I noticed a change as soon as I walked in but the staff were lovely, very friendly. I ordered a decaf cappucino (oat milk was the only non-dairy available) and smashed avocado on sourdough toast, with poached egg and tomato. The coffee was nice but the food arrived - 2 very large slices of what looked and tasted like white bread, a massive splodge of avocado, no seasoning or lemon juice, one slice of beef tomato and a poached egg + several packets of butter. I left the bread and most of the avocado. The waitress asked if everything was OK, I asked if the bread was sourdough and was told that they get their sourdough, frozen and it comes as a square loaf. It was not like any sourdough bread I've every seen or tasted - the meal was really not what I was expecting and I would not recommend that particular dish. As I'd eaten some of it, I was prepared to pay for it but I was not charged for it - which I did I appreciate. The toilet was clean, tidy and functional.

My Goodness!! What has gone wrong here?? My wife and I were frequent visitors to The Den as we passed it on our way to Shepton Mallet hospital and always called in for lunch. We called in yesterday for lunch and were served by incompetent teenagers and we were presented with a completely changed menu and indifferent service. In conclusion, one of the two toilets was out of action and the other was in a disgusting state. A bit of a Saturday morning treat as my daughters had returned home for their Birthday weekend. Normally we would go somewhere more local, but we decided to try somewhere a bit different for a change. I have one word for our experience - “disappointing”. It was not busy, we were greeted at the door by a very surly waitress, who obviously didn’t want to be there. We were shown to a table and then waited for quite sometime before our order was taken. Another long wait and 3 of the 4 breakfasts arrived. After waiting another 12 minutes the 4th breakfast arrived and with it the offer of sauces to the three of us who had all but finished! No apology was made and my wife ended up eating on her own. If you can’t serve everyone together, apologise, offer free top ups on the drinks and wait until you can serve everyone together. Pretty fundamental you would have thought. A shame really as the food was pretty good 👍

Popped in for a late lunch it was not busy so found a table and then the poor service began. My children were very polite in asking what flavours of milkshakes were available and with a sigh and an unnecessary comment they had some flavours listed to them. Having been to the coffee den on a number of occasions before I did not let this surliness annoy me. We ordered food, ham egg and chips for one adult and one child and two baguettes for myself and other child. Then the real issue began. A request for bread and butter to accompany the ham, egg and chips seemed a confusing one. And a misunderstanding ensued, with the waitress actually confusing us more on her second visit to check the amount of bread required. Anyway despite who was to blame on the amount of bread that was delivered to our table (far too much for one adult and child) our request that the second plate of bread was removed and stating we would pay for it but did not want to eat it seemed to cause a great deal of consternation. BEING SPOKEN ABOUT VERY LOUDLY IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE RESTAURANT IN A DEROGATORY FASHION IS NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE IT IS RUDENESS. Despite us asking for them to drop the matter we had to hear yet more comments. At this point I did point out AGAIN that we could hear every word they were saying and how unpleasant and unprofessional it was. We ate our food and paid the bill and did get an apology from another member of staff, but we will not be returning.

Popped in for a breakfast. Food was good at a fair price. The guy serving was trying a bit too hard, people 'passing through' don't want the same level of attention that 'regulars' expect or at least I don't. The place was very clean and tidy. Biggest problem was the radio, they had it turned up to 11, I really did not need that level of noise especially when I am trying to 'unwind'.

My girlfriend and I popped in here for lunch today, prior to visiting the farm shop next door. Busy, but I had pre-booked a table, worth keeping this point in mind.A couple of beers, a very good steak burger served with proper onion rings and a portion of homemade fish cakes, chips with both, all in just short of £30. I think that prices are rising. If it gets too expensive you will start to think about going to a decent pub rather than essentially an upmarket café based in a car park.

Had breakfast with friends this morning (Sunday). Staff were attentive, good coffee. We had a selection of dishes off the menu, pancakes with bacon, eggs Benedict and a full English. Food was quick, hot and very good! If I have to make 1 little criticism the bacon with the pancakes could have been a little crispier. It's a shame we are 150 miles away as this would otherwise become a regular breakfast stop.

Nice and easy to pull in, plenty of parking. We were greeted and took a seat. Very clean establishment and it even has an outdoor area and kids playroom. There are free newspapers and Wi Fi. Service was good and we were served quickly. Great coffees and the food was very tasty and well presented. My only gripe would be that I would have preferred 2 eggs on my eggs Benedict rather than just one. There were three muffins and lots of ham and sauce, I could have sacrificed some of the ham for an extra egg! But a good breakfast so I'm not going to mark it down for that as it was still very filling!

Due to accident on the M5 we returned to Bristol via Shepton Mallet - stopped here for a quick late lunch and were not disappointed. Jacket potatoes were good with a nice variety of fillings. Latte was lovely you could taste the coffee. Staff were friendly and helpful and came over to ask f everything was ok. Prices were good. Would definitely stop again

Expensive for size of portions. Ordered a sandwich with side order of fries, could fit all the fries in palm of hand. Used to be nice but food very plain now.

Have been to the coffee den several times before as I've always found the food and service fairly good and also good value. Today I met a friend there for lunch. The menu has a good variety of lunches and these are all reasonably priced. I arrived before my friend and wasn't greeted by any of the staff, I found my own table and waited around 10 minutes to be approached by a staff member. The waitress came to take my drinks order, then a couple of minutes later a different waitress came to take my order, when I told her I'd already ordered I was greeted with "oh right" and then she wandered off. My friend arrived and we ordered food - salad for me and a panini for my friend. We both enjoyed our dishes and we're happy that it was good value.Overall a pleasant experience, however service with a smile would be greatly appreciated and it would be nice to be greeted on arrival - even if it's just a smile!

A very busy cafe with a good choice of food but unfortunately we experienced terrible service. We were only ordering food from the breakfast menu. No alternations, no complicated changes but it all felt too much hard work for the waitress. Our order was taken, no smile, no conversation. Strangely enough she returned to our table literally within 2 minutes asking us for our order. We explained that she had just taken our order and she didn't seem to believe us! Breakfast good but unfortunately I believe the scrambled eggs are microwaved. If this is the case, such a shame as they are not difficult.

We driven past it several times as we are local.. It always looks quite industrial but I saw past that today..On arrival there wasn't a welcome, so we found our own seats.. However we must have arrived when the staff were busy, because every new customer received a warm welcome and shown where to sit..Food was excellent, staff were friendly.. But for some reason the seating arrangement made me feel that people were staring.. Perhaps too plush, maybe a little more Chabby Chiche would suit?

We dropped in for a cooked breakfast and coffees on a Sunday morning and it was really very good. Coffees were good, breakfast was a good size, well cooked and nicely presented and the staff were friendly and polite. Nothing to complain about at all, very clean and tidy and definitely a good venue if you're passing. Really should use this place more, we live in Sherborne and it always seems a long way away but actually only 25 mins so well worth the drive if you fancy a change of scenery and also a good excuse to nip up the road to the Jack Wills outlet shop at Kilver Court afterwards, crazy prices!!!!!!!!!

We regularly travel 40 mins for breakfast here as previously it has been wort the journey. However we had a very disappointing breakfast yesterday and found the service to be not up to usual friendly standards. Fried eggs were barely cooked and hash browns looked as though they had been drowned in oil, allowed to cool and then refried. We complained and then had to wait for freshly cooked ones by which time we had finished our breakfast. I didn't annoy witnessing the waitresses moaning openly about a couple behind us who were given the wrong order; five times the waitress walked past our table with the plates of food then back to the hatch. No freshly cooked food was offered and I should imagine that the original food was stone cold in the end. A very begrudging apology was offered when we paid. New chef or change of ownership? I'm not sure but certainly not up to the standard we have got used to.

The food, ambience and staff are the best for miles around and I've tried everywhere in the area. Breakfast is first class, Sunday lunch is superb and steak night on Thursday's is such good value I don't know how they do it for the price, £10 for an 8oz rump steak with all the trimmings and it's lovely. They also go the extra mile, my Dad only eats fish so they put it on the menu last Thursday evening, customer service above and beyond.

We've eaten here many times over the past few years, mostly on our way to the Bath & West shows. Always we've come away delighted - great food, clean & bright, good service, reasonably priced. But this Sunday we noticed a change - service was desultory, Sunday lunch was awful - horse meat, crispy Yorkshire pudding and school dinner veg. We'll be reluctant to return.Has anyone else noticed a difference? Is it under new management? Maybe just an off day?

Perfect place to visit with the little ones, they have a play area upstairs so you can sit and enjoy your breakfast/lunch/coffee and cake in peace while the little ones play. Staff are always really friendly, food is great and good prices too! :)

We happened across this venue on a slow meander back to Plymouth following a lovely weekend break to Bath. My fiancee had eggs benedict, I had a truckers(!). The service was quick, attentive and personal and when the food arrived it was simply fantastic. Fresh local produce cooked exactly to our liking. The venue itself is clean modern and welcoming. This is easily the best breakfast dining experience we have ever had. What a find!

Popped in on a Thursday lunchtime , quite busy but not full , we're served quickly but then waited 20 minutes for coffee at which point they took our food order, I had the paninI which was supposed to be chorizo tomato and mozzarella, when it turned up it was brie okay but not what was on the menu , my wife had jacket potato with tuna and onion again okay but not great, prices are reasonable but service was slow, perhaps just a one off but I won't be rushing back

This is now the Den 2 nights a week where meat from John Thorners next door butchery is the base for The Den's evening meals. There's a lovely atmosphere here with comfortable seating both at tables and on informal sofas (for the coffee drinkers). Friendly staff, relaxed air, cosy but clean and bright decor with friendly and helpful staff. So nice to go to a non-chain coffee shop!

Fist time we visited my husband & I had been visiting Thorners butchers and decided to call in for a coffee. We were made very welcome even though they were already serving lunches. One look at the menu and w also decided to try a snack lunch. A lovely bacon sandwich & a bacon Brie & cranberry. Lovely size portions. I have since been twice with friends for lunch and never been dissappointed, it is very busy on senior citizen lunch days but the welcome is always the same.

On our way from Colyton to Bath I was instructed to stop at a place which I had passed by literally hundreds of times, not considering it worth stopping for.How wrong I was. The coffee, the prices, and the atmosphere ensured that on our return journey we would stop for lunch. We rather ate too much in Bath so we decided on a pancake and a panini, thinking these dishes would be enough. How wrong we were!My partner managed the pancake, but I couldn't make it through a chicken, bacon, Brie, and pesto panini.Excellent quality and value.I will not pass by on my frequent trips to The Mendips.By the way The Farm Shop (Jon Thorners) should not be missed.

Went here for lunch and took advantage of two for a tenner without expecting miracles, but I would have been ashamed to serve the size of portion of chicken casserole,it filled less than half a small plate ,the other half being a slice of bread or rather half a slice of bread.I understand that you can't expect much for a fiver so for goodness sake put up the price and serve a portion that is suitable for more than a three year old!

Booked a table for family of five for Halloween Service was polite and friendly, didn’t have to wait too long for our order and the meals were all hot quantity & quality was amazing. We all had fish & chips but there are other options of things to eat. Definitely value for money and will definitely be returning again

Nice local business with delicious food. Had the Buddha bowl with loads of tasty veg and some chicken. Hummus and chickpeas made it enough that i didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day.

After months of closure, the Red Lion at Woolverton has reopened under new management. Dan the manager gave us a warm welcome and told us of his plans, as we were chatting the pub started to fill up, obviously word has started to spread of the wonderful welcome, excellent food and drinks, it’s well worth a visit

My daughter had her birthday Party there and it was so lovely. Very friendly host. Jordan is simply the best. The kids enjoyed their food, the pizzas were to die for and they had a swell time. F-Cooke is sure the best when it comes to hosting people. Friendly and lovely .
