The refurb of this place is of a very high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food lets it down. Primarily, if you don't like burgers or fish and chips, find somewhere else. I visited with a friend and although my fish and chips were good, my friends meal was first served on completely cold vegetables. On pointing this out to the waiting staff, she offered a replacement which, we expected would be a plated meal with hot food. Unfortunately it was delivered as a pile of veg and potatoes thrown together in a tin dish. Not ideal and a real disappointment. Probably would not visit again.

We are staying at the kings arms on business and decided to try the food. The place is lovely, nice and clean and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food was very nice, well presented and full of flavor, with a wide selection and good fresh produce.I would recommend eating here and trying the food,a little gem in the middle of know where. We are also staying here for a week in the hotel, so we will try the menu again as the meal was faultless.

10 years ago, Mr and Mrs Nicholls were the last chance for This lovely pub, they replicated sensational food and management under the onerous and greedy Greene King business model, and specifically overseen by Litton local David Elliot, Director of Greene King.Since these successful publicans left, the pub has crashed from grace with a slow and painful death. He and his cohorts should be ashamed of their ineptitude. The £495,000 freehold price guarantees future failure as a public house.

A once lovely country pub much loved by Bristolians for a Sunday lunch or weekend evening meal in natural ancient surroundings, flag stone flooring now covered with carpet, atmospheric bar now turned to little trendy alcove bars. Remember watching Dragon and Damsel flies dancing around the stream running through the garden now all gone! maybe the well off locals have no problem paying the extortionate prices but they wont save it from going like so many other country pubs, up for sale.

I visited for lunch with my mother and grandmother, the food is now much more reasonable as are the drinks! We all went for fishy things, the cod was in homemade batter and was huge, and apparently very tasty. The service was good. I then went back for an evening meal with a friend, something I never would have done before! We both had burgers and they were delicious with homemade chips etc and under £10. The Sauvignon blanc was very good too. Only point here is that though our order was taken quickly and food arrived promptly we were kind of ignored after that, the staff were just chatting in the bar (sitting down) which just looks unprofessional. But so much better than Luis, Findlay etc, keep up the good work and keep the locals interested!

I write this with a heavy heart as this pub used to be the most fantastic place to eat and drink. I wrote a review just under a year ago and praised it to the hilt. One year on, and the changes are huge.Firstly, as you walk down the steps, the gardens hadn't been mantained, the grass not cut, beer glasses left out on the table on the left and litter decorating the steps. Bearing in mind, this garden was immaculate before and always looked so inviting (we have had some beautiful weather in the past 2 weeks - good enough to sit outside), this was just the start. With only three cars in the carpark, we did even wonder if the pub was open as the doors were closed and the windows looked dark. However, we walked in and saw some of the changes immediately. The kitchen is to your right and used to busy with staff prepping vegetables and busy sorting out their evening..even at 6.30pm on a Saturday night. The light was on ..but there was no-body in there ? Through to the bar on the left we sat and we all ordered burgers, sadly there was little variety on the menu and none of which made my mouth water. What a disappointment ! The burgers were completely tasteless. They were pale and moist - I was suspicious and had a look in the kitchen again. Completely empty, no lovely food smells, no activity. Convinced that we had been served Brakes food - even the chips were oven chips. What an absolute horror meal. Even my son who loves tomato ketchup refused to touch it saying it wasn't Heinz.I am gutted..that this lovely gem in the country has been turned into your average pub with microwave food, rubbish beer, empty restaurant and staff who just weren't that interested ! We fled.Talking to some of the locals there that night, found out that Louis Darth ( the wonderful Maitre D' ) has returned to Portugal and the pub has since been under new management twice. If you read my review from a year ago - this was my favourite place to come to. Couldn't fault at all...like I say in my title - what a difference a year makes!Avoid at all costs!

We are local and had Sunday Lunch recently. The roast was excellent, hearty with lots of vegetables and I had extra gravy and horseradish that was promptly supplied when asked.for. My wife had a wonderful ham and leek pie, that was home cooked on premises. She wolfed it all. My little son had a burger made in the pub from local beef. All lovely food. The prices were sensible and well thought out. Just some finishing touches like a premium lager on draught and champagne/prosecco by the glass and we have the perfect country pub that caters for everbody locals and customers from further a field. Good to see the welly and dog contingent being welcomed in.Oh and please remove the carpet from the bar and reveal the lovely flagstones. Mind you the merlot and abbot ale kept us busy for a good 3 hours.....

We popped in to the Kings Arms as we heard the it had recently been taken over by a new land lord and what a fantastic surprise. Scott and his team instantly made us feel extremely welcome even in our walking boots, we got a beer and Scott the new Landlord filled a dog bowl for our Springer who lay next to the roaring open fire very very content. A quick check of the menu and we could see Scott has got a great idea of what people really want from a beautiful country pub and when the food arrived no one could ever be disappointed - good food, fair prices and lovely people. Top marks to the team at the Kings Arms Litton and thank you for getting the pub back to what it should be. We will defiantly be regular visitors and we know you'll be a great success!

We popped into the Kings Arms for lunch, as we'd heard it had been taken over last week. The new owner Scott, is friendly, enthusiastic and professional, as is the rest of the staff.Service was great, our waitress was lovely, she was funny; helpful and ensured we had everything we needed. The food is freshly made on the premises, and they are using local producers and suppliers. The menu is good and my vegetarian friend had a few dishes to choose from, and none of it Quorn thankfully! All the meals we ordered were well made and tasty. We were served quite large portions, so none of us could manage dessert, but we did spot other people having some, and they looked very nice. We're really pleased the Kings Arms has reopened, it's a beautiful pub, with a gorgeous garden.. It even has a little stream at the bottom. The new management are really lovely, the food is good, so we'll definitely be popping down again soon.

After booking a table in advice from friends and family for my Grandad's 92 birthday we were slightly surprised to find the place deserted. Since part of our party had driven over an hour to get there it was irritating that we hadn't been informed and there was no mention of the fact it was closed for food on the web site. Fortunately the Blue Bowl at West Harptree was an excellent alternative.

The King's Head has changed hands yet again. The last time we ate there it was incredibly good quality and value, but when we visited last weekend it was a very different story. The food wasn't just mediocre or less than perfect, it was memorably awful, possibly the worst food I've ever paid for. We booked last minute so weren't surprised there was a bit of umming and ahring about fitting us in. However when we arrived it was almost deserted. The waitress said they'd had to delay us eating because they had had a large party of 12 diners and their main chef was away. When I jokingly queried whether the food would be ok I was assured the sous chef had everything in hand. When she came to take our order we were informed there was 'a cheese issue' so many dishes billed as containing cheese would now not! The whole establishment had a sad, abandoned air, particularly for peak time on a Saturday night, not helped by the awful piped lift muzak! Clearly camembert was still available as we had a baked one to start. It was luke warm with uninspiring flacid white bread, edible, if not monumental, but then it's hard to make a mess of bunging a box in the oven. My main course was 'braised lamb shoulder, with garlic mash and roasted root vegetables' in a sauce of which one of the constituents was mint (I forget the rest) When the mains arrived about an hour later! there was a dollop of pureed mash with a few boiled carrots strewn round it. and no other veg. The slice of lamb was totally obscured by viscous almost black gloop, which tasted as bad as it looked, salty and with the consistency of tar. The lamb was dried out, leathery and totally devoid of flavour. At any price this was not acceptable but at over £16 it was appalling. When I conveyed my feelings to the very helpful young waiter he took my comments seriously and went off to consult with someone behind the scenes. He returned with the offer of a 10% reduction on my dish. I declined this offer and next time he returned this was upped to 50%! My partners meal of bangers and chips (which they agreed to swap for mash) was served with the level of presentation of a children's fast food meal. He said the sausages were fine but the chips were burger joint standard and the onion gravy served separately was 'disgusting.' Neither of us ate much of our meals and left with a very sour taste in our mouths after paying a substantial amount for a spoiled evening. I regularly eat out in country pubs and am not expecting Michelin star standards, but this hit an all time low. We shall not be eating there again until it once more changes hands, which on this performance will be sooner rather than later!

I went here on a Saturday evening with my husband for a spur of the moment date night. We hadn't booked but were able to get a table. The girl that served us was lovely and welcoming and helpful. I was a little disappointed with the taste of my soup (cauliflower and bacon!) but thought it would be worth a try. My lemon sole was delicious and my husbands steak was to his satisfaction. The Lemon posset was very sour and I had a job to eat it. This meal was 'average'. I have eaten at other restaurants of the same price and feel it could have been better. The atmosphere was pleasant but not sure I would rush back.

We have just had Sunday lunch here. First of all we were not welcomed and the pub was decidedly chilly, I stoked up the fire but was sad to see the other fire in bar was not lit! It's the first week of January I thought you should need to feel warm inside a pub with the gails and heavy rain outside. Food was very average, beef was very tough but pink , need a better supplier I think, I complained about the meat and it was swiftly replaced with some excellent pork that the other 3 adults were tucking into. The Christmas covers cd coming over the crackling speakers on continuous loop drove my wife insane, overall the heart has gone from this great location pub. Where were the owners on a Sunday lunchtime?

Been here a few times during the last year. At my previous visit a few months ago, the service was almost military efficient. Not so this time. After waiting around for someone to greet us and show us to a table, the service was slow considering there were only a few people in the restaurant. After 20 minutes the food arrived before our drinks. The food was okay but the pub seems to have lost some of it's Sunday lunch atmosphere.

We have been to this pub many times in the last few years, it has changed owners quite a bit and the food has been different every time. The last couple of times the roast dinner has been fantastic and well worth the money. We visited today and the restaurant is normally packed for Sunday lunch but it was empty, this was a sign! They still have the menu from the last owners at the same prices, but the quality is just not there. They are still advertising the 'kings arms cauliflower cheese' which had goats cheese in it, but all we got was normal cauliflower and a rather small portion of un exciting veg. It was just okay, it did not warrant the price tag. Won't be returning until they have a better Sunday roast!

Well it isn't strictly cool for young people but it certainly is for the more discerning. A laid back, rock music quietly in the background, infront of a roaring log fire, gives an ambiance of dining at a good friends house. Comfortable yet very pleasing. It has a farmhouse feel but just glorious touches of extra thought to spoil you; for instance the service, and the bathrooms which have individual towelettes to dry your hands instead of dryers - it feels like Fortnums in the country! It is perfect for couples and families alike as it will appeal to all ages particularly in the summer because there are outdoor tables. Really it is comfortable enough for a woman to eat alone if neccesary and subtle enough for business too.The menu is thoughtful with pizzeria and good solid food although not in massive quantities leaving you feeling just perfect for any remaining spoils for the day!!Certainly great quality to unwind with.

Good food, good service, good atmosphere. Base price for a cheese and tomato pizza was £10, toppings £1 each, making a couple of the teenage kids pizzas over £15. A great place to eat - but not too often as maybe a bit pricey. We wanted somewhere to eat within walking distance of our B&B. Our B&B owner suggested either a 'psychadelic 70's' experience at the Waldegrave Arms or the King's Arms - a 'gastro-pub'. Neither really appealed as we were looking for a typical English country pub. We chose the King's Arms - and were very pleasantly surprised. It has an eclectic feel, with a contemporary restaurant, but managing to maintain its 15th Century character. The outdoor space is charming - very inviting and well tended. The menu - although not overly extensive, is well-balanced, with something to suit most tastes. Service was courteous but they did appear relatively short-staffed, leaving us trying to catch the eye of staff members on more than one occasion. It was lovely to be sat near the immaculate, open kitchen, with the chef calling out 'service please!'. On occasions, he too appeared to be struggling to catch one of only two waiting staff! However, we weren't in a particular hurry so no real problem. Food was great. Three types of bread served and my aubergine dish was superb. Restaurant was clean and immaculate but a bit dark in places due to lack of natural light. The walk from our B&B was lovely - country lanes, open fields and woods but reasonable by road too. We didn't book as we arrived relatively early but I am told that booking is usually recommended. We wouldn't rave about it but would certainly visit again.

3 of us went to The King Arms on a Monday, and luckily, it was open, (lot's of other places close).Don't be put off by the exterior, this is a very old building, c1420. Go inside, and you are confronted by all sorts of nooks and crannies. Met by excellent staff, all uniformly dressed and pleasant. Good selection of ales, Butcombe, Old Speckled Hen, and a Guest Ale.The Bar food was outstanding, average wait 15-20 minutes, and good portions. I had a fantastic tagliatelle (small) with an outstanding cream and pesto sauce, £7,50 larger portions available, my wife had a chicken and bacon sandwich (huge!) with fries and salad, and my brother had a mixed cheese ploughman's again large. The restaurant is set further back, and looked very inviting. I would imagine the food is just as good if not better. Good wines, a nice atmosphere and good prices. Highly Recommended.

Had supper there one evening with no reservation. The food was moderate expensive and the choice was fairly standard. My sirloin steak with blue cheese was average - slightly over cooked, over salted with a slab of blue cheese on top, a spoonful of mixed veg and a big pile of ordinary thick cut chips. Other meals were seafood linguine - a huge plateful but the sea food was obviously frozen and slightly chewy/ Pizza was ok but nothing special. We had nothing else except for a few soft drinks and water and it all came to £50.It also took a very long time for us to get our meals - we had to wait over 45 mins.A real shame as they apparently won awards during 2012 for the their food but I certainly wouldn't rate them now.

We booked into this pub with rooms for one night whilst visiting family. On arrival we were shown to our room (a river cottage type one) and then realised we had made the biggest faux pas ever, when we were informed that the shower room and toilet were shared with 2 other rooms, (luckily only one of which was occupied) immediately on realising our mistake we asked if we could be moved to an en suite room, unfortunately there was none available, so we settled into our bijoux room, by putting the tv on whilst getting ready for our evening meal. The room at £80 was comfortable but small, the tv did not have the bbc and most channels were in and out of signal. The coffee facilities nice big box of coffee etc looked impressive, but on making a cup there was dried milk powder and sweetener rather than sugar. Urgh horrible. Room also had hair straighteners, bar of chocolate, bag of toffees and pkt of biscuits, nice touch. We were also grateful for the robes to get to and from the shared shower room, which although clean, looked tired and I struggled to get a hot shower. The hall way contained an iron and trouser press. Which was very convenient. A continental breakfast was included and cooked breakfast was £10 extra, there was no guest services leaflet in the room so we were unsure where breakfast was served or what was served , but by quizzing the waiting staff eventually we found out that the cooked was anything you wanted but they did not have a list of items, so we just said we would have whatever came out with a fried egg. The breakfast was very nice. Now the restaurant. A lovely room with exposed kitchen was a lovely surprise. My husband ordered scallops £12 , one and a half scallops not sure that's value for money! I had the pâté which was very nice. For main I had the risotto with sea bass which was great although when the specials were described to us by the waitress they sounded dull and again we did not know how much they cost, because they were only verbally communicated to us. Fillet steak was good. We ordered one cheese board to finish @ £12 . Perhaps our expectations are too high but the cheeses on the board were what you would get from any supermarket. The nicest cheese on the board was a soft one which if you had blinked you would have missed it. For the price I would have expected a selection of unusual soft and hard cheeses. Over a reasonable meal. Would I go back again ?

We were looking for a country pub that would do an reasonably acceptable sunday roast for Mothers day, that would be equal distance for all the family to travel. It wasn't until a week before the big day that we suddenly realised that we hadn't booked anywhere and paniced. With not much hope we called the Kings Arms and were informed by a very helpful young lady that if we came in early they would happily fit the whole family in. Great start!!The Kings Arms really is a gem of a country pub. Having a family who all have their own ideas of a perfect roast, its generally impossible to please everyone. The Kings Arms got it right on every level. The service was personable without being intrusive. Through chatting we probably over ran our allocated time slot and the table after us were probably cursing, but the staff never made us feel rushed and were constantly polite and courteous. The food, though slightly pricier than your average roast, was superb. All courses were plentiful and we were hard pushed to finish all the food, but for once there was nothing but praise from the whole clan.I think best saved for a special occasion because of the price, but we will defintely be back and will throughly recommend it to anyone wanting a cosy, welcoming country pub where you feel at home instantly.

Wow!Five courses of the best food I have ever eaten in a pub/restaurant in England and at £35 per head including wine this was the best value I've ever found in this country as well. Every course was Michelin standard and served by smiling helpful waiters.waitresses who made sure we were having a fabulous evening. Even the generous plate of various breads was home baked. The host welcomed us at the door and during the evening made sure everything was perfect. The main course was included lobster, mussels, salmon and other fish beautifully cooked and served in a large lidded copper pan and it looked and tasted amazing. The dessert course was a selection of delights and finally coffee was served hot and with a jug of hot milk.We will be back and soon and if they are having more of these themed evenings we'll be booking for them as well. The place was packed and we met some lovely people on a nearby table who were also enjoying the evening as much as us.Great food, great atmosphere, great value. Well done !!

It is relatively easy to find somewhere that will give you a one off good meal, but finding somewhere that is consistently brilliant is much more of a challenge! We first visited the Kings Arms for an Anniversary meal back in August and have been back many times since then, and EVERY time has been just as good as the first. We have now worked our way through most of the menu and it’s hard to find a favourite as all of the dishes are excellent. It may not be the cheapest meal you will have but it is definitely worth every penny. We most recently visited on Valentine’s Day and were excited to see our favourite goat’s cheese starter back on the menu, it was delicious, nearly as good as the lemon tart we had for dessert which was sublime! The service was very efficient even though the restaurant was completely full. The staff are always exceptionally friendly, nothing is too much trouble, and the owner really does make you feel at home. I cannot recommend this highly enough. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Food was just sublime. Very quiet night when we visited but the pub was beautiful and the staff very helpful. You pay that extra for the food but it's well worth it.

last minute booking for a 21st birthday meal for our son. There were four of us. Lovely welcome from the staff and nice table in the restaurant not squashed or tight to other tables it was in a settle of four. Everyone (staff and diners) seemed very relazed really nice atmosphere. Menu not huge but varied and interesting. The service was brilliant, lovely waitress and the owner popped round to each table at various times to make sure everything was ok. The food was excellent, and the waiting times good so you had time to relax and chat but not so long that you got fidgety. Loved the layout of the restaurant much better than it used to be, more cosy, but mainly really lovely food. Well done Kings Arms we will return, but will need to save up! and thanks for the rose when we left.

Having booked a table for Valentine's Day as a surprise for my girlfriend I was not disappointed. This was our 3rd visit to The Kings Arms and our best to date. The evening was perfect! We received a warm welcome as always and were handed a glass of 'Love Potion' - a delicious champagne cocktail and taken to our table. Whilst perusing the set Valentine's Day menu we were brought some beautiful home baked breads. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and the vegetarian options were lovely. The highlight of the dinner for me was the Confit of Duck Leg, easily the best main course I have had in the last 12 months. It was fantastic! Both my girlfriend and I cleaned our plates of all 3 courses which is extremely rare. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, they really looked after us as they have done on each of our visits. Fantastic food and service! 3 very good experiences to date, and hopefully lots more in the future.

Disappointing valentine,s meal. We booked last minute on the menu shown on the website. We arrived early and had half a glass of champagne love potion cocktail. Then handed the menu only to discover a completely different one and £5.00 more than advertised. We asked about this and was told it was last years menu,so not very happy. My husband wanted the sirloin steak so they asked if it would be ok and it was, I chose from the menu, the meal was very ordinary and a great let down.

I went here for a surprise birthday party and wasn't disappointed. The food is excellent and the service is very good indeed. The a la carte is fairly expensive, but the quality of the food justifies the price. I had the Portugese piri piri chicken special, excellent value at £24 for two including wine. For starter, I had the baked seafood soup which was outstanding. My only criticism was that the food was slightly slow coming out of the kitchen but the food was so good that we didn't mind.

The meal we had at the Kings Arms was superb. Make a reservation and you will not be disappointed. The french comte, fig and apricot chutney, and toasted walnut starter paired with the recommended Macon Fuisse was literally heaven for my tastebuds! My husband had a steak and I had the daily risotto. Presentation, portions, and taste were all well above average. The staff was friendly, and prompt but not pushy. Lovely time...I HIGHLY recommend it!

We booked a table here not wanting to have to travel into Bath or Bristol and having been previously disappointed with the alternatives we have already tried in the area. We were so glad we did! My daughter and I ate here eighteen months' ago and although it was good, it was nothing really special. Now, however, it is REALLY special. The food is fresh and imaginative and suited a variety of tastes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian and the service was excellent. The waiters and waitresses although very young have been expertly trained and paid great attention to detail and are a credit to the business. I would be proud to have them working for me! The sauvignon blanc we had was one of the nicest I have had and the desserts, well.....! One of our party tried the 'bit of everything' dessert and every mouthful was sublime - yummy! Not the cheapest of restaurants but you definitely get what you pay for and we will be back very soon! Some very interesting weekday specials available too!

Truly excellent food and service. some other reviewers have complained about pricing; this is a world class restaurant and priced reasonably for the quality on offer. If you come here for beer and burgers you were reading the wrong script on the first place, and most people check the price of what they are going to eat before they order. I just had the best steak I've eaten in 4 continents after a caviar and egg/salmon starter which was sublime. Worth every penny.

Four of us dined at the Kings Arms on a Sunday evening. There was no atmosphere and only two other tables occupied. We sat down at 7.30, one of the four menus offered was an incorrect one. We were also told that the lamb had finished. Starters were okay although my beef carpaccio was literally smothered with olive oil completely obliterating the taste of the beef. Three of the four of us had a roast dish - there wasn't much else on offer. My pork meal was acceptable but not worthy of the cost with gravy swimming all over the plate, again obliterating any other taste. I had to ask for a clean plate and the staff offered to present the meal again skimming off the gravy. They advertise their fabulous cauliflower cheese, what we got was one that had been hanging around since lunch time and reheated, probably in the microwave, mushy and tainted flavour. For dessert I chose the tarte tatin but couldn't find any caramel just an insipid sweet goo. I shouldn't have wasted my money. What a disappointment, we left feeling we had been grossly overcharged. Local? Try the Pony and Trap instead, superb and no more expensive!

Too late for lunch and too early for dinner - tea was required. And what a tea - delicate sandwiches, warm scone with jam and cream and home-made patisserie (3 little tartlets) plus your choice of the golden nectar (although two of our party had capuccinos!) We did in fact ask for a bag to take some of the uneaten treasures home. Wonderful!

My boyfriend and I stumbled across The Kings Arms by chance and what a gem it is! We've already returned three times with guests and so far never been disappointed. The 15th century pub has a lovely country style entrance and open kitchens with displayed loaves of artisan bread are immediately visible inside the front door. The service has always been great and we had a lovely waitress Rosanna this evening who could not have been more friendly and helpful. Two of us are vegetarian and were delighted with the options; both choosing the goat's cheese and butternut squash pie with pesto gravy at a very reasonable £11. The rest of the menu (with a choice of the pub or restaurant menu) covers roast dinners, stone fired pizzas and various meat and fish options priced from around £12-£20 for a main course. The scallops and beef roast ordered by our companions were delicious and perfectly cooked, and we all enjoyed the complimentary homemade bread seasoned with various herbs. The dessert selection was equally mouth-watering including traditional English style crumble, sticky toffee pudding with pecan sauce or a trio of chocolate desserts. The Portugese family owners are obviously very passionate about food and service; everything down to the bathrooms (with individual rolled-up hand towels) was finished to a high standard. We'll definitely be returning, for special occasions or just a lovely meal.

First impressions of this little gem were very good. Pub from the outside still looks rustic and 'oldy worldy', if there is such an expression, and was very charming. We were greeted by very welcoming and accommodating staff as soon as we stepped over the threshold. Eating area is very nice with kitchen area visible. Our waitress was very friendly and generally attentive to our needs. There were four of us and we all had a very good meal. When we eat out we now tend to prefer these unique pubs instead of the mass chains that churn out the bog standard pub grub, not that there's anything wrong with that necessarily. We all had a lovely evening and have no negative comments whatsoever. My only comments would be that they forgot to get us extra butter and the wine list when asked, but this was soon remedied when promted again. Would thoroughly recommend, especially for a special occasion.

You must visit this place, if only to be touched by the warmth and friendliness of the host. Lewis .He stayed up til 1:30 to let me in and then got up at 7am to make breakfast.... The only other bacon sandwich that I have ever had that tasted better was at Jamie Oliver's place on Watergate Bay!This is a new business.Lets all help it and get our backsides down there.I will be back again and I will get there in time for a pint and dinner.Tony Smith

We ate here on a rainy Sunday evening at the suggestion of our B&B host. We ate in a bar which we mainly had to ourselves. They had a special menu as it was fathers day but they let us order from the usual menu as well. We had 3 courses and drinks and it came to £67 which seemed expensive for pub food, especially given that my main was a pizza. The decor is very nice, and I can imagine the gardens would be lovely in better weather. Now the bad bit. While we were still drinking our coffee they started hoovering the bit of bar round the corner from where we were sitting. Nothing says you have outstayed your welcome more than someone getting the hoover out! I know I'm quite fussy but I think if you want to charge restaurant prices you need to reflect certain standards.

We have a pub walks book at home which so far hasn't let us down and so I booked the Kings Arms (online through Toptable) for Sunday lunch with the intention of going for a walk (which starts in the pub car park) and heading in for a well deserved lunch afterwards. Luckily the weather held for us so we trudged off round the countryside near Litton on a 3 1/2 mile walk which was excellent with plenty of variety - taking in the nearby reservoirs. We were ready for lunch by the time we were done and it being Father's Day I was glad of the booking as it was busy and deservedly so. The menu was short, seasonal and appropriate for a Sunday and the specials sounded amazing. I had the roast beef and it was two thick slices of medium rare rump which was excellently cooked - just how I like it with all the trimmings and a good veg selection including a lovely cauliflower cheese with crumble topping. The portions were very good size - too big to have any dessert. We sat indoors just in case the weather turned, but there is a very nice beer garden. Inside the decor is modern with the kitchen exposed immediately on entrance - I liked this as it means they are confident in their preparations - enough to allow people to watch. I would definitely come again. The only slight downside is that the prices could be considered quite (my beef was £18) although I felt like I was getting value for money which for me is the crucial thing.

Booked via online booking system and were warmly welcomed. Nice fresh bread and a good menu. All of the family had the Sunday roast - the kids loved theirs and the roast potatoes were declared to be the best in the area by one of the party who is a connoisseur of such things!!Pudding was lovely, I loved the chocolate trio and my daughters Litton Mess was sensational. We will return. Quite pricey but worth it. Decor lovely, well thought out.

Great rural location that is worth seeking out for the food and decor. Portuguese owners have a relaxed atmosphere and more than happy to help tailor your experience. Had a great dinner there, bought a picture and enjoyed it so much that we came back with more family for afternoon tea. We were quite hungry and they were happy to provide an extra round of sandwiches without charge. Very impressed

Thanks to our great British weather have enjoyed a meal out in the garden on a balmy evening and a Sunday lunch tucked up cosy inside in the space of 2 weeks. Loved it the first time so went back with another family group. The pub itself is a fantastic old building oozing with character and cosy corners to sit and eat/drink and with a great beer garden and terrace which wasn't too crowded on a nice weekend evening.Food was good and it was nice to have the option to chose starter or main course size for many of the dishes. All the staff we had contact with were very friendly and chatty so nothing bad to say about them at all. There is even the luxury of a decent linen serviette even when eating in the beer garden!!!! The trio of chocolate desserts is to die for...was a bit dubious about the sound of the chocolate and mint pudding but it was absolutely amazing! Hope to be back again soon!!

Recently came back from a walking holiday in the Peaks, and we base ourselves in Tideswell which is about a mile away from Litton. We used the Kings Arms 3 times in one week. Could not fault the service and the food was fabulous (especially the Sunday roast). The only complaint i have about the place is it's popularity, it is always busy so book to save dissapointment. Would i recommend yehh absoulutley .............

took two friends of ours to this pub and ordered sunday lunch of lamb which was £18 each for the two men and chicken and vegetarian for the ladies. the men found the lamb very tough and could not eat it. took it back and one ordered the beef and one ordered the chicken. the beef was still tough and left on plate. This was about £18 as well, which is rather expensive for a sunday lunch. The chicken which was £15 should have been mostly breast at that price, but a lot of it was dark meat with bones in it. i do not mind paying quite a bit for food if it is good, but this was not good value for money. did not order the sweet dishes and would not go again to this pub. Very disappointed as the price you paid did not reflect the quality of the meal. Glass of house red wine was £7, cheaper to buy a bottle at this pub by the way.

A ploughmans and two burgers, two cokes and half a Guinness in a pub at lunchtime should only cost £40 if you offer great service and value. In my opinion the Kings did neither.Service wise, the welcome was indifferent, the food took an age to arrive, the waiter was scarce and we weren't offered water, bread or dessert. We were told they had one table left in the restaurant, which strangely was nearly empty. With regard to food, the burgers were good, if paltry, but the ploughman's was dismal. I prefer quality to quantity but this was a pathetic effort: two small triangles of cheese, a couple of slabs of white bread, a third of an apple cut thin and arranged in a fan, and two small dollops of pickle. Not exactly something to keep a working man slogging away at a plough.I suggested they reduce the price from £8 to something more reasonable, which they did, but actually that took the shine off a rare family meal out.Lovely surroundings, inside and out, but not somewhere I'll go again at this price and for this experience.

Visited on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. Steaks and pies were excellent, mojito and cosmopolitan were fabulous, desserts were wonderful particularly the Kings Chocolate Trio and the Litton Mess. The birthday girl's dessert came with Happy Birthday written in chocolate round the plate and a candle (very diplomatic!). Very friendly and professional staff (Vicky) and bar staff (James)

Findlay and Luis have made this restaurant a very cosy place to be with little private but spacious areas to eat for all sizes of parties whether they be a romantic couple or a large family. The cocktails and guest ales are superb, the comfort is perfect, the lighting and colour scheme is warm and relaxing, the service is first class too with the waiters and waitresses educated and interesting locals who are very friendly and very helpful too and put you at ease, are quick to serve and incredibly attentive throughout your stay. As for the food - WOW!!! My goodness! I am training to become a Sous Chef myself and the flavours and textures as well as the colours of each dish be it a starter, main or pudding are memorable, interesting and exciting. I ate the same dishes (plural!) every night and the toffee pud is one of the best I have ever tasted. The fish is absolutely fresh, there are no freezers so you never eat defrosted food and the bread is baked on site every day. This place is a treat to go to and we can't wait to leave London and go back to eat more. I nearly forgot too, I hardly drink wine because it doesn't agree with me but every night I drank nectar in the form of a burgundy macon fuisse. Do visit, you absolutely won't regret it. Oh, and there is a roaring cosy fire which is carefully and lovingly tended by Luis and the music they play is lovely - very non-offensive and quiet so you can talk with ease to your companion/s. PERFECT!!
