Being the wedding photographer at Bishops Palace Wedding and Events Venue was an absolute joy and privilege. From the moment I arrived, I could sense the care and dedication that had gone into preparing for the big day. The venue itself is stunning, offering a variety of picturesque spots that made capturing special moments effortless. Whether it was the elegant interiors or the beautifully landscaped gardens, every corner of this venue seemed to be designed with weddings in mind. What truly sets Bishops Palace Wedding and Events Venue apart, however, is the incredible team of staff who go above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect. Their attention to detail, warm hospitality, and ability to handle every request with a smile made the day not only enjoyable but completely stress-free for the couple and their guests. I am genuinely excited to return for weddings in 2025 and 2026 and to work alongside this fantastic team once again. Thank you for making my couple’s day so magical and unforgettable. Best wishes, James Clarke at Just James Wedding Photography.

Bishop need to try his/her own cafe. What a terrible place to eat. food was cold, coffee's were cold and the service was diabolical. Young servers just stand around chatting while constantly playing with their hair and rubbing their noses. All very off putting. Our order was wrong, and we waited way too long on a quiet day.

Just left there and will not go back. This used to be a nice cafe in a pleasant setting. It seems to have changed. We found a table but there were no menus - the only ones I could see was at a table that said reserved. I simply picked up one to have a glance and someone from the cafe comes charging over proceeds to tell me off and was extremely rude. Apparently you can’t have a 30 second look at a menu on a reserved table. Rather then provide a menu to us (is this not the job of the waiting staff?) I just got told to get one from outside. We eventually obtained one to discover the only option was a roast diner at £20. At that price they can keep it and their ride staff

An interesting collection of items and information about Wells and its Bishop. There are displays detailing 800 years of history. The Palace has gardens to enjoy. We went on a rainy October day and couldn't see a lot from the ramparts due to the mist. However, we would like to return on a clearer day to see if we can spot Glassonbury Tor in the distance. An adult ticket for the Palace and Gardens is £17.50 but this can give you entry for a year. There are some concessions and family tickets available, and there is a joint ticket that also gives access to the cathedral. That's worth getting if you intend to visit both sites (they're next to each other). Accessibility is good. The inside of the building is mostly level, and there is a platform lift. There is a clear even path around the gardens. The ramparts are only accessed via stone steps.

The Bishops Table used to be one of the best places in Wells to get really good food, fresh and good variety. The last 3 times we've eaten here, it's been a huge disappointment. The menu is extremely limited, especially for vegetarians. The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. The tables don't get cleared or cleaned, and it's not because they're understaffed. There were many waiters/waitresses inefficiently plodding around. Slick training, better management and a broader menu and this place could be really special. It is in the most beautiful setting.

We’re local and have been coming to the Bishop’s Table for years as we’re members of the gardens. Unfortunately, today will be our last visit to the cafe. We thought we’d give the new owners/chef one more try since some awful fish and chips a few months ago. Sadly the food remains bland, badly cooked, with poor flavour combinations and limited menu choice. This is a real shame as the quality of the food used to be excellent, (you only have to scroll through older reviews to see how wrong they’re currently getting it) with high quality local ingredients and a real care in its presentation. Even the decor has gone downhill, used to have such lovely wood interior and benches but now looks cheap.

I visited this place after the Cathedral on a combined ticket of £20 for both, which lasts a year, which is good value. In all honesty I wouldn't want to be paying the £17.50 entry fee for this place alone so you should definitely get the combined ticket. There isn't enough to see for £17.50 but the gardens are very beautiful and tranquil and you get to see some of the wells/springs from which Wells gets it's name and made it a significant place, so that was cool. The moat around the outside is a really picturesque one and you don't have to pay to walk around that.

After the Cathedral, I of course also visited the Bishops Palace with my combination ticket. The Palace has been the residence of the Bishops of Bath and Wells since the 13th century. Construction began in 1210 and a chapel and large hall were added in the 14th century. The great hall fell into disrepair and was partially demolished in 1830. Until recently there were 2 swans who rang a bell to get something to eat...according to my information, this has been discontinued because the people who trained the swans and gave them food died and no successors could be found . I enjoyed my time in the buildings and the very beautiful garden with all my senses. Simply beautiful here and of course a must if you are on holiday nearby 👍

We would like to have visited but the palace itself was closed due to a wedding and the rather expensive entrance fee and the weather made visiting just the gardens not very appealing. There should be a discount for visiting when the palace itself is closed (or a separate ticket for this all the time). We weren’t the only people complaining about the cost outside who didn’t go in as a result, which is sad as it looks amazing. Edit: the Palace’s response is correct in that the website had said that the Palace was closed for a wedding, but forewarning isn’t really the point here, it’s about it being over-priced, especially if just seeing the gardens.

It showcases the cope, worn by bishops during the coronation of monarchs since 1900 (with the exception of King Charles). Bit of a faff with the tickets- they send you a ticket with a bar code, but the gate staff can't actually scan them, so everyone had to go to the ticket office- imagine the queue size of all the people turning up for an event! And only 2 people in the ticket office, and the printed tickets wouldn't scan so most of them were having to be found manually- what a waste of time! Not much point in buying them in advance really. Once in, there was plenty of space to sit and watch. The falconers mic wasn't particularly loud, and with the kids running round, screaming and crying because there was an expectation for them to sit down, we couldn't really hear much of what was said. Being a warm day, the birds weren't particularly hungry or motivated enough to fly to command, so in the end only 1 bird flew. Beautiful surroundings, lovely sunny day, just a few irks along the way. Friendly atmosphere and staff, and a warm crackling real log fire welcomed us. This was ruined by our four meals, that were all awful. Initially we wanted the Steak & Ale pie, which were unavailable. Eventually we chose again, 2 sirloin steaks, one rare, one medium, being, but both were overcooked and very tough and gristly forbsirloins. Bangers and mash wasn't great either, with the casing of the sausage, being very tough. When I mentioned this to the barmaid, I was told, "she'd mention it to the chef". Worst £60 meal we've had on this vacation, and won't be eating there again. Such a shame as our evening had started off so nicely in there.
