Came into this lovely little village for a over night stay as in a coach driver. Was told this was the only place to eat and drink - the food was absolutely delicious, I highly recommend the steak and ale pie! The meat was sooooooo goood! The chips were perfect too, I had a brownie for dessert which melted in my mouth - they also pour a perfect Guinness, the owners greeted us very nicely, very kind people who made me feel welcome.

The George is a nice place to be, the landlord is friendly as are the locals, theres plenty of choice of drinks, the food is nice pub food with a choice of specials on the board, the service was great and the prices I thought were very reasonable for what you get, you can tell the difference in the quality of the food even if you just having fish and chips etc… rather than some of the other things listed its a nicer fish and chips than some places serve, we will be back when in the area

Lovely old pub, very friendly owners, staff and locals. Gorgeous food, all homemade, even the ice cream, sooo creamy! The King George ale is brewed solely for the pub and I can thoroughly recommend it, after extensive sampling, just to be sure you understand.. There is accommodation but we didn't stay so can't comment on that. Very dog friendly and there's a resident pub dog, Pixie, a black Lab, who'll stay by your side all night...as long as you have food on the table 😂 She doesn't beg or make a nuisance of herself though, just lies there next to you 😍 I can only say visit, you won't regret it.

The George Inn is by far and away the most pleasant, friendly, wonderful pub I have been to in the UK. And I have been to many, many pubs. The food is just superb. The King George bitter, especially, is tremendous. But mostly, this community pub excels due to the friendliness. It is the heart of the village of Croscombe, and well worth travelling to. They have accommodation too.

Went for dinner here as had seen good reviews plus was staying in local B&B near by. Can not fault the staff, all welcoming and friendly. Myself and my husband got the steak each, it was nice but nothing to rave about. We also got a pudding each (crumble, which was more oats than crumble, and sticky toffee pudding). Where we were seated was an area you could see into the kitchen and let's say the microwave was heard pinging a few times 😏 Had a Guinness and then two cokes and bill came to £86.00 which is alot compared to when we've been to places like Miller and Carter and have had amazing steaks plus wine/cocktails and price is roughly the same. Would I go back for a drink - yes but personally not for food. Definitely over priced.

Last week, my family and I visited The George Inn for lunch and had a mixed experience. We've enjoyed this pub before, but this time, we were surprised by the new manager/landlord. Their presence felt unwelcoming, as they seemed moody and frustrated. It was uncomfortable to hear them complaining, which made it awkward to approach and ask for anything. However, the food, especially the crab salad and lasagna, was absolutely amazing and to top off we had a fabulous ginger ice cream. The other staff members provided great service, which we appreciated. Overall, our experience was a bit tarnished by the manager's behavior, but the delicious food and friendly staff made up for it. We hope the pub addresses these issues, as it would make us more likely to visit again in the future.

The room was excellent and I had a great night's sleep in the very comfortable bed. Great shower and had a wonderful chat over breakfast this morning with Peter and Veryan - fascinating, warm and very interesting people. I just mentioned that some of the others coming for the funeral might meet at the George and that a few may like to eat...........😬🙃 When 15-20 people arrived, Peter and Veryan served them breakfast like it was no trouble and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly at the drop of a hat! It really made for a special start to a sad day and I was so grateful to them. A true village pub which seems to be at the heart of everything. We stayed here for 1 night after visiting Cheddar Gorge. We booked through booking.com and was asked to let them know when we would arrive. We said 4pm. We then received a email asking us to check in before 3pm or after 5pm because they liked to have a break! We drove past at 3.30pm and the front door was open, so we went in. They explained that if the locals were in the bar, then they remained open!Anyway, we did receive a warm welcome and had a couple of drinks in the small but pleasant garden, edged with 2 of my favourite flowers. Dahlias and sweetpeas. We were given the key to our room and shown how to use the shower. We had the loft room. And very nice it was too.The menu was limited and pricy(as was the bar)(to be expected when its the only pub in the village.) We had the cripy duck leg, and the lasagna, and enjoyed every mouthful. Compliments to the chef.We had to ask what time breakfast was served as the info was not offered, and they failed to mention that they were having their extractor fans cleaned so a full english would not be available. This is the reason we are giving 4/5. Overall, we had a nice stay and would definitely stay there again, if in the area.

It's harder and harder these days to find a "local pub" which is independent and not met with formatted brewery-led preset menus. Walking into The George we were met by the landlady with a great smile asking whereabouts we were from. Great service, friendly atmosphere and great food followed. The home made chips and the curry were excellent! We were overlooking the kitchen from our table and saw staff working ever so hard. Service was there when needed, friendly but not over bearing. A bucket to keep the wine cold would have been nice. A short walk from The Old Manor B&B, Shepton Mallet. We suggest you visit.

Just lovely. It’s a funny little placed, with a slightly dated but oh so English pub charm, tucked away in a small village. The garden is sizeable, featuring a small covered seating area, a grassed area and Pixie the dog. The toilets are clean (and I think this is always a good sign of any eating place). We sat outside and had a roast. Nothing fancy just honest, hearty pub grub. Service was lovely, prompt and polite. The ice cream is made on site and to die for. I would wholly recommend the stem ginger flavour if ice cream is your thing. We just needed a meeting spot that gave us a place to eat and I can’t fault it.

Dinner on Tuesday - it was very quiet (6!) and a bit confusing all together. The moment we walked in we did and didn’t have a table reserved all at the same time. We had a drinks order taken before we even sat down and they came quick. That was the only quick thing! Waited ages for our order to be taken and food to come out. Food was nice though. We did want a dessert but we’re dreading the wait we were going to have for that! So went to the bar to pay in order to pay before we turned another year older! ...very uncomfortable at the lack of Covid safety measures - you could have been forgiven for thinking there wasn't a deadly virus in circulation. No one way system, tables very close together (and it was very busy the night we went) , no masks/visors for staff, paper menus that were just handed out multiple times, no cleaning of tables and chairs when they became free. But there was hand sanitiser on the bar! As for the food, we were a little disappointed at the very restricted menu, nowhere near as extensive as the sample menu on the website. There was only one type of pie left (chicken and veg) that we didn't really fancy but nothing else appealed. Have to say though that the pie was delicious, chips were good and the veg were perfectly cooked for us (no soggy veg here). Also, the staff were very friendly. If it hadn't been for the safety issues my rating would have been higher but under current circumstances those issues can't be ignored.

My husband and I visited the pub for an early dinner on a Saturday night. Apart from a few locals at the bar the pub was fairly quiet. We ordered Guinness which was brought to our table with food orders of fish & chips & scampi & chips. Disappointed with the fish & chips as very little cod and mostly batter, we were hoping to Have homemade chips (twice cooked) but clearly frozen. For pudding we ordered sticky toffee pudding and treacle tart. The tart was cold and a disappointment. We left feeling disappointed by the meal as reviews were very good. After a day out we decided to give the pub another try as chef could have been off on our last visit. Again had to park and walk to the pub as only 4 parking spaces Again next welcome and Guinness brought to our table. As Sunday we were offered roast which was nice as the evening and not offered by many pubs. Much busier with diners and locals. We opted for mussels and garlic mushrooms for starters followed by roast lamb and chicken dinners Very attentive and good service. Starters very good. After being recommended by a friend to visit the George inn for a meal, me and a few colleagues decided to go, we decided against having starters due to the prices and not wanting to spend too much money, I ordered the Sunday roast beef, hoping it would meet my expectations, I was very much wrong, when the food came out, and was put in front of me I thought I was going to be sick, the veg was hard and tasted like it had been sat for weeks on end, the potatoes were like rocks, not even my dog would eat them, and there was at least 5 short black hairs in my food, the chefs should be wearing hairnets because quite frankly it’s disgusting, not to mention how tough the beef was, and the huge amount of fat on it, I’m also pretty sure that the cauliflower cheese was burnt however freezing cold and the gravy was lumpy, I definitely wouldn’t recommend you visit the George Inn for food, it’s overpriced and disgusting, the only positive was the staff who were all lovely young ladies, DO NOT GO TO THE GEORGE INN UNLESS YOU LIKE HAIR IN YOUR FOOD.

Went for a family meal here and had a lovely time. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The garden was beautifully maintained. The food was delicious. The Camembert starter was very tasty as was the smoked salmon and prawn cocktail. We had steak and chips for our main course which were cooked to perfection. Although we were full up we couldn’t resist the desserts. The sticky toffee pudding (with homemade ice cream) and the fruit crumble were fabulous. We highly recommend the George inn to anyone looking for a great meal in a very pleasant atmosphere. Thanks again.

We visited for Sunday lunch . We thought it was very over priced for the quality of food we had . The garlic mushrooms , just a few mushrooms in some cream not particularly tasting of garlic,The beef was nicely cooked but the roast potatoes tasted as if they had been heated over and over and so were not eaten , a few mixed vegetables well cooked but few . Cauliflower cheese was extra not really tasting of cheese. The desert : the crumble was lovely but my sticky toffee pudding was a dry sponge , not in anyway moist , on a plate with a toffee sauce around it , the ginger ice cream was delicious . I feel these where gourmet pub prices for a Wetherspoon quality meal

Stayed here for one night for a rare night away. A warm and friendly welcome awaited us. It was a warm and sunny day so we decided to eat in the pub garden in the early evening, the food was delicious and they were accommodating with cooking something as an alternative for me. Staff very attentive and nothing too much trouble. We were in room 1 which overlooked the front and small car park, very spacious with a king size bed and en-suite bath with shower above. We were told there might be a bit of noise until midnight. We explored the village after our meal and enjoyed looking at the stunning very old architecture. We retired to bed after 10pm but unfortunately the music and noise didn’t stop until 12.45am, after which we finally went to sleep, being woken up at 7.15am by guests knocking on a door. The shower was hot and refreshing. Breakfast was from a choice of cereal and a cooked to order hot one from a menu with toast and marmalade with tea, coffee or fruit juice. We would have loved to know the history of the village and pub and did ask but no info was known by the staff member we spoke to. It would have been nice to have had some information in the room, alongside the other reading material provided of things to do in the area. The city of Wells is only a short drive away.

Received a warm welcome on checking in by the young lady behind the bar. She was also very friendly and attentive during the whole evening. Bed comfy, pillows a bit thin but that's personal preference. Could hear people in the bar until late but was a Friday night so no problem with that. Breakfast lovely. Dinner very tasty but not a lot of meat in the lasagne for feedback. Owners very nice and genuinely interested in their guests. Overall very good and would stay again.

The staff at the George are all so friendly and accommodating. The devised a menu with four choices of starters, mains and desserts for our group of 20 and were excellent at covering all dietary requirements. We were able to just order pub meals as we arrived on Friday evening and then had our feast in a room to ourselves on the Saturday evening. They set us up a rectangular table so everyone could see and talk and we could easily get around the room as needed. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious. As the portions were huge I would take a doggy bag in future so as not to put anything to waste! We needed to keep walking on the Sunday to burn a few extra calories. Would recommend it to all, whether a couple, family or group.

Out for a six mile circular walk from Wells, my route took me to Croscombe where I was delighted to find The George open and serving breakfast well before "standard" Sunday opening time. Such a warm welcome and a great breakfast menu. The "George Full Breakfast" was a no brainer! It was served beautifully cooked and appetisingly presented. The George also serves as a micro shop for the village and everyone who came in received the same friendly welcome, whether they were stopping for breakfast or just picking up the Sunday papers.

Came here on Friday evening prior to seeing an event at the Bath and West showground. At 6pm there were no parking spaces nearby so had to go into the church car park and walk.

Visited here with a friend with hound in tow and really enjoyed it. Good quality home cooked pub food, usual suspects like scampi but the lasagne was home made to order and very good. The dog got a rapturous welcome from very friendly locals. Also good for intolerances.

This venue is located adjacent to the A371 in Croscombe village. This is a pleasant 17th century pub with a nice garden. There is a small parking area at the front. The food has good reviews, but our lunch here could only be described as average pub food. The chips were slightly overcooked and the bread with the sandwiches was a bit dry. The staff are friendly and the presentation and service was OK. It is a convenient venue if you prefer to dine or drink in a rural environment.

Lovely place to wander around the gardens for free, but can also pay to go inside the palace. Very peaceful.

We were looking for a pub for lunch & decided to go to Frome as my partner said she had been there before. We saw this pub as we came into Frome & decided to stop here. We wanted a nice cozy proper pub & found it! The lady working there was very friendly & chatty. Food was lush, I had the rump steak & I have to say, for pub grub at pub prices, it was extremely good! Better than more expensive cuts in restaurants that I've had before! If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely pop in for food again!

After running this pub for a couple or years in the early 90s its great to see it open and doing well. Best thing about it is the locals, best of luck
