The Kings Head in Mendip

Went in for lunch. Landlady n customers very friendly. Ordered starter and main. Too much food! Very well presented, hot and tasty.

We came to see the live music. Drinks reasonably priced, staff were friendly. They had a local rock/metal band called Mirrorgrinn in who were really great. The crowd were having a great time, it was a great atmosphere. Really refreshing to see something different on a Saturday night out in Wells. Hats off to the Kings Head for supporting local music. Will definitely be back.

Popped in to have lunch whilst visiting Wells. Good choice on menu and very good value. Placed and paid for my order at the bar. Staff were really friendly and efficient. Food was very good, would highly recommend. Only downside was that it was very cold where we were sitting so just ate our food and left.

A lovely pub! Reminded me of a much nicer Weatherspoons! The barmaid was super helpful amd recommended some spiced rum that we hadn't tried before. She had a great knowledge of her drinks.

On Valentine's Day, on a cold Friday lunchtime, we noticed a promotion for a 2 course meal for £7.20. We ordered the tomato & basil soup followed by scampi & chips and sausage & mash main courses. The soup came and was lovely and hot, plus came with toasted bread. Our mains were delicious and generous portions too. Later, the staff checked that all was well. The empty dishes were removed promptly. There's a bigger menu of all sorts but this lunch was really lovely and I would recommend visiting the pub. There were several small dogs with their owners so small furry members of the family are welcomed too. The pub has had a great refurbishment and has lots more tables at the rear, plus a courtyard. The upstairs ladies toilets were lovely.

Chicken roast, cold roast potato's, cold veg, cold mash, roasts pots hard and cold, chicken dry and way over cooked. Such a shame

On our recent visit to Wells we visited The Kings Head , a lovely local pub with a friendly welcome & during what must have been one of the coldest few days in January the central heating was plentiful which made for a cosy atmosphere , our little dog was made very welcome with plenty of fuss & treats we enjoyed a few drinks & a tasty burger we may not return to Wells as we have a few other places to visit on our list however we have no hesitation in recommending The Kings Head if you want to soak up some local freindly hospitality

Crystal made our few days away. Great fun human; deserves to succeed in anything she does. Full of energy to make any business do well. We'd certainly come back if we were local. Good luck with the new venture. And thanks for making a memorable time for us.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, super friendly staff BUT….£6.60 for a can of non-alcoholic Guinness is a tad on the rude side…more expensive than their regular beers despite the taxation difference? Makes no sense…..

We had a Festive Feast on Christmas Day 2023 & same again this year, 2024. The food was excellent, good quality, each course was hot and plentiful, (Waistband challenging!). The service was great and friendly with 'resting time' in between courses. A happy atmosphere topped off the Special Day with a special meal.

The food was absolutely terrible, unprofessional staff to start with, terrible organisation. I was treated terribly at this workplace and completely unattended to.

What a fabulous experience! Wonderful staff and amazing landlady! The building and interior is quite breathtaking! I certainly will be visiting again for sure! Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Popped in on a Sunday for drinks, had some fries too. Was all lovely- saw some roasts coming out and decided we will definitely be back to try them! Welcoming atmosphere, with great staff, and even a treat for the dog. Would recommend to anyone. Thankyou

My sister and i go to Wells every week and always have our lunch in the Kings head. The food is delicious and the staff are always very friendly and obliging

Looked nice from the outside and in lovely location but was freezing inside and had to eat with coats on. The staff were rude and did not make us feel welcome. The food was poor quality but luckily was not too expensive. I understand times are hard and people are struggling but manners cost nothing.

Nearly £30 for the worst breakfast I've even seen.. portions are little. 1 bacon, 1 pre cooked sausage, 1 half grilled tomato, tiny sauce pot of beans and a handful of chips. Won't be coming back.. also clean your lines out the lager was distasteful

Place was cold so Sat with coats on asked to turn heating up but owner away and no access to this gor the one staff doing all the running. 5 out of 6 meals at best only ok, one meal not charged as foreign item found in food. Desserts 4 not good chewy and tastless. Will not go again

I wanted to order food and drink to the bar, after waiting few minutes and being deliberately ignored, a very rude staff suggested me to find a table and take a seat, they will come to pick up my order. I did what I been told to do, found a table, after 10 min waiting I went back to the bar, finally I placed my order. When the drink was served another "polite" staff asked me to come to the bar to pay for my order. The food wasn't great, nobody bothered to check if it's OK. The venue was freezing cold. I don't recommend

Had the Friday fish special , fish chips peas tartar sauce and a pint , it was of a very good standard. Sport on the TV. Service improved during the meal.

Lovely pub, in the main street. Not very busy...luckily as the Bar Person was not very quick or needing Training. I went to the bar to place order, my son (4) was playing with his car on our table. The Bar person (Mary) that kid is noisy (he was running his car across the table)...that's my kid...the next thing when do they go back to school? No idea he's not at school! Placed order...confused( mary) couldn't understand as we only want 3 of the 4 items on the child menu why it wouldn't go through...ordered the mains for us...asked for a fruit shoot...what's that...I don't have kids she said. Anyway paid....our food arrived quite quick...but not the child's meal...her explanation was there was confusion over the child's meal. Child's meal turned up after about 5 minutes...then she tried to turn around her conversation regarding my noisy child...Food was good. But won't visit or recommend to friends with young children.

We didn't know the area or the pub but liked the look of the pub from across the road. The pub was fairly full as they were showing live football. The pub audience weren't too rowdy and we enjoyed hearing the game from our table further back. Despite it being late in the day the kitchen was still able to provide us with tasty, fresh, hot food. The bar staff was friendly and helpful; they'd run out of some menu items and she advised which items were available and recommended items she thought we may like based on what we'd tried to order. The food was excellent value, as we're the pints of Amstell and Peroni we had to accompany it.

Had a great last minute meal in here , we were a party of seven , one of which was a toddler , our own hotel had no tables for dinner and we had kids to feed so we found The Kings Head and my husband asked if they had a table free , the bar staff checked and said they could fit us in . The staff and locals at the bar were really friendly . We had a lovely meal . My Daughter and my grandkids were happy and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The pub is a quirky building and tastefully decorated , we would return for another meal if we stay in area again .

Absolutely loved this little pub , very cosy inside , great staff who was very knowledgeable about the history of the renovation side and she invited us to have a look round ... we didn't eat at the premises but the menu looked great . Very dog friendly and they even have a jar of treats for them.

Booked a table for a birthday meal..arrived on time and the table wasn't ready..then sat us in the bar area by the stairs and every time someone opened the toilet door you could smell the toilets. We just couldn't stay.. 1st time ever I have left a place.

We were visiting the area and stumbled upon this place when looking for somewhere for lunch and a drink. Pub itself could do with TLC, paintwork bashed about, dusty light fittings, worn ugly carpet, menus were mucky and sticky, etc. Service wasn’t great to start, the lady behind the bar didn’t know if a Rose Zinfandel wine was red or white lol. We then we discovered 2 new members of staff starting today, obviously needing more training. Food came out quickly, we were surprised how nice it was. Cheesy garlic bread was a bit undercooked, chips were lovely, chicken goujons were good as were the duck spring rolls. Good value for money and ideal for a lunch. Lots of vegan and vegetarian items on the menu. Music is good, but a bid louder than necessary, and nowhere to sit away from it unfortunately. Lunch menu needs a second option for starters and the same for dessert. All in all, we would eat here again if in the area, wine was nice, and the lady in charge was great, very cheerful as well.

Good beers, well priced and the music throughout the week creates an amazing vibe.

Went here after a nice walk over the hills, decided to have lunch and ordered Ploughman's and Messe plate. When they came the plates were the same size but the Ploughman's had a small chunk of cheddar, two slices of bread and the rest was average, really not value for money at all. Overall a tired pub that needs attention, staff were friendly enough but not the best visit which was disappointing.

£18.50 for two meals! Outstanding food. We stumbled across this place while on holiday. The out side of the pub is misleading as it looks small and dark. Once inside we were greeted by a friendly barmaid who explained how the menu worked and how to order. Mon-Thurs they run the offer and they don't compromise on portion size or quality. It was sooo good we went back the following evening and weren't disappointed. We had a different member of staff who was equally as warm & friendly. This pub is a gem in the heart of Wells. Go, you won't be disappointed 💓

Pub to recommend to have a good time in a pleasant place. Just a small downside concerning one of the waitresses who does not speak to the customers and comes to remove the plates and glasses when everyone has not finished their dish. It's a bit harsh as a way of doing things.

First time visit but won't be my last. As a frequent visitor to Wells we decided to try somewhere new and wasn't disappointed by the King's Head. Food was lovely with a nice Saturday vibe but the service received by all staff was excellent and genuine. Plenty of seating areas with a massive selection of food for all eaters at a reasonable price. Well impressed.

Lovely olde worlde traditional pub. Popped in for an early afternoon bite to eat. 2 course meal was tomato soup and All day breakfast. That was very cheap and filling. Half small chicken and chips were nice. Cheap reasonable meals and plenty of customers here on this occasion. Both water glasses were dirty and scale visible. I haven't seen this for a while, maybe the glass washer isn't working well.

Had a lovely meal. Food was tasty. Didn't wait long after ordering.

I stopped off in the kings head with my two children while visiting the city. lovely little pub very clean and the food was great! What made it more special was the staff, Especially the lady who served us, from start to finish she was amazing & alway had a smile, sorry never got her name but she is a true asset to your pub! Would most definitely go back there again

Found by chance while walking along the main street. Quiet place but really delicious sandwiches and enough choice of beers... Very professional and friendly staff... If you come to Wells pop in here.... Highly recommended

Certain bar staff have absolutely no manners / understanding of food service or etiquette! The instant one of your party has finished eating, the plate is immediately taken from them whilst everybody else is still TRYING to enjoy their food and conversation. All of this without even a simple ‘ how was your food’, ‘Was everything alright’, ‘Please may I take this’ or even so much as a smile…. I have enjoyed many drinks here although this isn’t the first time we have eaten here as a family but it will certainly be the last. Definitely will not be returning or recommend to others. Such a shame as it’s a nice establishment.

From entering, we got the feeling it was a friendly place. We ordered their 2 meals for £18.50 (?) and had some great pies. The staff were fantastic and helpful- knew how to look after their customers. We were served by Ryan on Wednesday July 10th and he really does his job well. For good food and friendly service- best place in Wells!!

As always excellent choice of food and drinks,friendly polite staff. Pub very busy but staff coped very well We always go there when we visit Wells.

My wife and her family members Visited the king's head yesterday For A meal and found out that the chicken was half cooked I think the chef needs to go back to catering school if it was me I'd sooner have a plate of pigs swill

What a great find. On a day trip to Wells and looking for a pub lunch we found Kings Head. Lovely lady behind the bar served us. Lunchtime special deal - 2 courses £7,20. Unbelievable and good quality too. Large glass wine £7.20 great value. Recommend you try this pub if you are ever in Wells.

I organised a group of hungry cyclists to eat at the Kings Head on 2 evenings in May 2024 and we had the best nights, great service, great value. Everyone ate their food, the menu was varied so pleased everyone and the staff were so accomodating. I'd have no second thoughts about returning here. The pub handled 23 hungry diners perfectly, we prebooked and had a private room, food came quickly and was tasty and hot. Brilliant!

Dinner with a large group of friends couldn't have been better! Very well looked after, food was well cooked and arrived in good time, great menu choices and good value for Money. We had a private room upstairs and despite being a large group all the food arrived hot and tasty, very friendly and smooth service. Highly recommended. It was so good we did it two nights running

Was so impressed with quality of service and food when came for a roast with my partner and 2 year old daughter today the staff was amazing helpful and friendly the food was brilliant the beef was amazing time waiting wasn't long and was great food and brilliant prices will definitely be returning and recommending to anyone in future and the staff are a credit to this pub it was fairly busy but seated immediately very helpful with ordering food and drinks was overall a great experience thank you

We had an awful experience with the food when it was served We had three starters for £17 came with yellow stale rocket and salad with red cabbage was probably older then me, half chicken came with long visible feathers on it which we had to pluck it ourselves. Only thing good was service. We had good day at well,s but nasty experience at this pub.

Visiting Wells, I looked online for what we might like to eat. King's Head were advertising feed a family of four for £25 when u order before 6pm! Their mains list (that already form a two for £18 offer) was extensive from steak salad bowl, to burgers, lasagne to vegan chicken style tikka. The kid's meal was a choice of multiple popular kid's food, with several carb and veg options, and an ice lolly. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The building is beautiful and there's multiple seating options, quiet corners, large tables. The food arrived quickly, on warm plates and was all prepared, cooked and presented just right and was delicious. The staff couldn't have made a nicer experience and when I thanked them, I was shocked to hear their boss is away! U wouldn't have thought it. Thank u all so much! We'll b back 😆

They need more staff only one girl serving so had to wait quite a while for food not good if you are a there for the day and have limited time but when the food did come it was delicious

Had a great roast beef lunch here yesterday, superb !! Although we are not big eaters the portions were generous. Will return for sure when the situation demands.

I've never been in but my partner had years ago and was unsure how it would be. Delighted to see that dogs are allowed, it's so nice that the current owners have kept a lot of the original features of the building also! We came in for lunch, food was good and quick! Also the lunch special for £7 a person is an absolute steal. We will be back :)

Great pub found by accident walking down the side street. What a find! Friendly and efficient service, nice selection of drinks and very spacious. Great atmosphere, and full of character too! Food delicious - Highly recommend the burgers, worth every penny!

Visiting Wells, and popped in for coffee ended up having lunch and respite from the rain. Dog friendly, plenty of tables. Good menu choices and deals on at weekends as well. Clean and staff friendly and always busy. A lovely pub.

This pub is definitely locally known as being one of the avoided spots for food, drinks and atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, there is absolutely none. The tables are sticky, the 1940-style curtains stop what little light there is from entering the bar area. The music is awfully selected, the regulars seem to have the lights on but no-one’s home. How anybody could continuously visit, and eat the same overpriced, carelessly microwaved “food” that comes out of that kitchen is beyond me. And the prices of the drinks are abysmal! I understand we’re all struggling with cost of living but these prices are akin to what you would find at a bar in London, which I just think takes the absolute piss. Surprisingly, Wells does have a decent amount of young adults around, but if you spent your time here, you would never know it. This pub caters to the slow and elderly and you can really feel that energy as soon as you walk in. My deep condolences to the two women that were serving drinks and waiting tables as they did seem very composed and friendly, I assume they have nothing to do with management but whoever is, I suggest they look at a calendar and realise the year we are in and the wider demographic they could be pulling by just making it feel like you have actually walked into a decent pub, rather than a retirement home.

Came in here to watch the football and was warmly greeted, decided to eat here as such a good greeting and a beautiful building ordered just before kitchen closed and although only had scampi and chips it was really good. Highly recommend

The customer service is excellent, staff are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. The one thing I would comment on are the toilets. The ladies is lovely and clean, I assume the men's are too, but. The aroma as I assended the stairs, I could tell the toilets were there. Apart from that 5 stars all round

Called in for lunch. Staff were lovely and friendly. Was advised we were not able to order food for about 20 mins because they were busy. There were lots of free tables, so I can’t say they were exactly busy…Ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. Took over 45 mins to arrive. When it did arrive, the fish was very over cooked and tasteless. There was mix of chips on both plates, which some had clearly gone through the fryer multiple times. Very frustrating and disappointing as we waited so long for food and it was very poor quality. Not exactly a complicated dish you can get so wrong.

Thank you to all the lovely staff at the King's Head. We had xmas lunch here on xmas day - delicious food, excellent service, welcoming atmosphere - really appreciated the effort put in to make this such a fabulous visit.

My husband and myself took his parents out for Christmas Day lunch, and it was absolutely superb, crystal, Dan and the staff were so attentive and friendly as always, the food was amazing, and such generous portions of everything, excellent value for money too, we do eat and drink regularly in the pub, and would highly recommend you give them a try, Thankyou once again Crystal and gang for a wonderful memorable day x

We arranged a family meal for Christmas, but unfortunately my Father died the week before, and we had to reduce the numbers to a small, quiet family gathering. From the start, Crystal couldn't have been more helpful - she was attentive to our changing requirements, and was so understanding when I had to change the menu and numbers. On the day, Crystal was so welcoming and kind - she gave us a bottle of Prosecco on the house, so we could toast our Dad. My 5 year old nephew was kept amused with crackers and games, and Sellotape was provided to make his paper crown fit! Even the dog was given treats and a water bowl. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much to Crystal, Carly and the kitchen team for making our meal as enjoyable as possible in the circumstances. The food was good, but the staff is what made our experience so memorable.

I visited The Kings Head to watch a live football match. It is a welcoming pub with a great warm atmosphere. Kerry and the chef were most helpful and I enjoyed a nice vegan burger and chips. Lots of great offers on food and drink. Regular live music shows. Great selections of food and drink, especially draught beers. Definitely worth a visit.

Myself and dad have used this pub for drinks and food. We are always greeted with a smile and a kind, welcoming attitude. Prices are affordable. Meals are a good portion - if anything we struggle to finish it! Food is delicious, tastes fresh.. outstanding!! The pub is warm and decorated beautifully so a great place to spend this time of year but also has a very pretty beer garden which is lovely in the summer. Bar snacks are also available and the menu has small plates and a light bite section if you’re only after something small and it’s the perfect pub grub! I’m always excited to go back ! :) 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! The people that run the establishment are some of the nicest most welcoming people I’ve encountered in my years of working away. A home from home is how they have made me feel every single time I’ve stepped through their doors. Excellent food even better company and fantastic staff. Highlight of Well’s in my opinion x

We were extremely disappointed by the food. We ordered 3 dishes for £17. The salad was old and dry, the nachos were very poor.

Don't order food, when asked how the food was and I said I wasn't happy with the food. it was clearly old and prepared days ago. The member of staff didn't know what to do, shoddy, surprised the pub is still open serving food at that poor standard
