Went here after a nice walk over the hills, decided to have lunch and ordered Ploughman's and Messe plate. When they came the plates were the same size but the Ploughman's had a small chunk of cheddar, two slices of bread and the rest was average, really not value for money at all. Overall a tired pub that needs attention, staff were friendly enough but not the best visit which was disappointing.

£18.50 for two meals! Outstanding food. We stumbled across this place while on holiday. The out side of the pub is misleading as it looks small and dark. Once inside we were greeted by a friendly barmaid who explained how the menu worked and how to order. Mon-Thurs they run the offer and they don't compromise on portion size or quality. It was sooo good we went back the following evening and weren't disappointed. We had a different member of staff who was equally as warm & friendly. This pub is a gem in the heart of Wells. Go, you won't be disappointed 💓

Pub to recommend to have a good time in a pleasant place. Just a small downside concerning one of the waitresses who does not speak to the customers and comes to remove the plates and glasses when everyone has not finished their dish. It's a bit harsh as a way of doing things.

First time visit but won't be my last. As a frequent visitor to Wells we decided to try somewhere new and wasn't disappointed by the King's Head. Food was lovely with a nice Saturday vibe but the service received by all staff was excellent and genuine. Plenty of seating areas with a massive selection of food for all eaters at a reasonable price. Well impressed.

Lovely olde worlde traditional pub. Popped in for an early afternoon bite to eat. 2 course meal was tomato soup and All day breakfast. That was very cheap and filling. Half small chicken and chips were nice. Cheap reasonable meals and plenty of customers here on this occasion. Both water glasses were dirty and scale visible. I haven't seen this for a while, maybe the glass washer isn't working well.

Had a lovely meal. Food was tasty. Didn't wait long after ordering.

I stopped off in the kings head with my two children while visiting the city. lovely little pub very clean and the food was great! What made it more special was the staff, Especially the lady who served us, from start to finish she was amazing & alway had a smile, sorry never got her name but she is a true asset to your pub! Would most definitely go back there again

Found by chance while walking along the main street. Quiet place but really delicious sandwiches and enough choice of beers... Very professional and friendly staff... If you come to Wells pop in here.... Highly recommended

Certain bar staff have absolutely no manners / understanding of food service or etiquette! The instant one of your party has finished eating, the plate is immediately taken from them whilst everybody else is still TRYING to enjoy their food and conversation. All of this without even a simple ‘ how was your food’, ‘Was everything alright’, ‘Please may I take this’ or even so much as a smile…. I have enjoyed many drinks here although this isn’t the first time we have eaten here as a family but it will certainly be the last. Definitely will not be returning or recommend to others. Such a shame as it’s a nice establishment.

From entering, we got the feeling it was a friendly place. We ordered their 2 meals for £18.50 (?) and had some great pies. The staff were fantastic and helpful- knew how to look after their customers. We were served by Ryan on Wednesday July 10th and he really does his job well. For good food and friendly service- best place in Wells!!

What a great find. On a day trip to Wells and looking for a pub lunch we found Kings Head. Lovely lady behind the bar served us. Lunchtime special deal - 2 courses £7,20. Unbelievable and good quality too. Large glass wine £7.20 great value. Recommend you try this pub if you are ever in Wells.

I organised a group of hungry cyclists to eat at the Kings Head on 2 evenings in May 2024 and we had the best nights, great service, great value. Everyone ate their food, the menu was varied so pleased everyone and the staff were so accomodating. I'd have no second thoughts about returning here. The pub handled 23 hungry diners perfectly, we prebooked and had a private room, food came quickly and was tasty and hot. Brilliant!

Dinner with a large group of friends couldn't have been better! Very well looked after, food was well cooked and arrived in good time, great menu choices and good value for Money. We had a private room upstairs and despite being a large group all the food arrived hot and tasty, very friendly and smooth service. Highly recommended. It was so good we did it two nights running

Was so impressed with quality of service and food when came for a roast with my partner and 2 year old daughter today the staff was amazing helpful and friendly the food was brilliant the beef was amazing time waiting wasn't long and was great food and brilliant prices will definitely be returning and recommending to anyone in future and the staff are a credit to this pub it was fairly busy but seated immediately very helpful with ordering food and drinks was overall a great experience thank you

We had an awful experience with the food when it was served We had three starters for £17 came with yellow stale rocket and salad with red cabbage was probably older then me, half chicken came with long visible feathers on it which we had to pluck it ourselves. Only thing good was service. We had good day at well,s but nasty experience at this pub.

Visiting Wells, I looked online for what we might like to eat. King's Head were advertising feed a family of four for £25 when u order before 6pm! Their mains list (that already form a two for £18 offer) was extensive from steak salad bowl, to burgers, lasagne to vegan chicken style tikka. The kid's meal was a choice of multiple popular kid's food, with several carb and veg options, and an ice lolly. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The building is beautiful and there's multiple seating options, quiet corners, large tables. The food arrived quickly, on warm plates and was all prepared, cooked and presented just right and was delicious. The staff couldn't have made a nicer experience and when I thanked them, I was shocked to hear their boss is away! U wouldn't have thought it. Thank u all so much! We'll b back 😆

They need more staff only one girl serving so had to wait quite a while for food not good if you are a there for the day and have limited time but when the food did come it was delicious

Had a great roast beef lunch here yesterday, superb !! Although we are not big eaters the portions were generous. Will return for sure when the situation demands.

I've never been in but my partner had years ago and was unsure how it would be. Delighted to see that dogs are allowed, it's so nice that the current owners have kept a lot of the original features of the building also! We came in for lunch, food was good and quick! Also the lunch special for £7 a person is an absolute steal. We will be back :)

Great pub found by accident walking down the side street. What a find! Friendly and efficient service, nice selection of drinks and very spacious. Great atmosphere, and full of character too! Food delicious - Highly recommend the burgers, worth every penny!

Visiting Wells, and popped in for coffee ended up having lunch and respite from the rain. Dog friendly, plenty of tables. Good menu choices and deals on at weekends as well. Clean and staff friendly and always busy. A lovely pub.

This pub is definitely locally known as being one of the avoided spots for food, drinks and atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, there is absolutely none. The tables are sticky, the 1940-style curtains stop what little light there is from entering the bar area. The music is awfully selected, the regulars seem to have the lights on but no-one’s home. How anybody could continuously visit, and eat the same overpriced, carelessly microwaved “food” that comes out of that kitchen is beyond me. And the prices of the drinks are abysmal! I understand we’re all struggling with cost of living but these prices are akin to what you would find at a bar in London, which I just think takes the absolute piss. Surprisingly, Wells does have a decent amount of young adults around, but if you spent your time here, you would never know it. This pub caters to the slow and elderly and you can really feel that energy as soon as you walk in. My deep condolences to the two women that were serving drinks and waiting tables as they did seem very composed and friendly, I assume they have nothing to do with management but whoever is, I suggest they look at a calendar and realise the year we are in and the wider demographic they could be pulling by just making it feel like you have actually walked into a decent pub, rather than a retirement home.

The customer service is excellent, staff are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. The one thing I would comment on are the toilets. The ladies is lovely and clean, I assume the men's are too, but. The aroma as I assended the stairs, I could tell the toilets were there. Apart from that 5 stars all round

Came in here to watch the football and was warmly greeted, decided to eat here as such a good greeting and a beautiful building ordered just before kitchen closed and although only had scampi and chips it was really good. Highly recommend

rainy night. first time in Wells. hungry. walked a little. found this. had pie n mash n peas n gravy n shandy x2. sorted us out proper after a tough day climbing hills and being touristy. wonderful. would i visit again. oh yes

Called in for lunch. Staff were lovely and friendly. Was advised we were not able to order food for about 20 mins because they were busy. There were lots of free tables, so I can’t say they were exactly busy…Ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. Took over 45 mins to arrive. When it did arrive, the fish was very over cooked and tasteless. There was mix of chips on both plates, which some had clearly gone through the fryer multiple times. Very frustrating and disappointing as we waited so long for food and it was very poor quality. Not exactly a complicated dish you can get so wrong.

Thank you to all the lovely staff at the King's Head. We had xmas lunch here on xmas day - delicious food, excellent service, welcoming atmosphere - really appreciated the effort put in to make this such a fabulous visit.

My husband and myself took his parents out for Christmas Day lunch, and it was absolutely superb, crystal, Dan and the staff were so attentive and friendly as always, the food was amazing, and such generous portions of everything, excellent value for money too, we do eat and drink regularly in the pub, and would highly recommend you give them a try, Thankyou once again Crystal and gang for a wonderful memorable day x

We arranged a family meal for Christmas, but unfortunately my Father died the week before, and we had to reduce the numbers to a small, quiet family gathering. From the start, Crystal couldn't have been more helpful - she was attentive to our changing requirements, and was so understanding when I had to change the menu and numbers. On the day, Crystal was so welcoming and kind - she gave us a bottle of Prosecco on the house, so we could toast our Dad. My 5 year old nephew was kept amused with crackers and games, and Sellotape was provided to make his paper crown fit! Even the dog was given treats and a water bowl. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much to Crystal, Carly and the kitchen team for making our meal as enjoyable as possible in the circumstances. The food was good, but the staff is what made our experience so memorable.

I visited The Kings Head to watch a live football match. It is a welcoming pub with a great warm atmosphere. Kerry and the chef were most helpful and I enjoyed a nice vegan burger and chips. Lots of great offers on food and drink. Regular live music shows. Great selections of food and drink, especially draught beers. Definitely worth a visit.

Myself and dad have used this pub for drinks and food. We are always greeted with a smile and a kind, welcoming attitude. Prices are affordable. Meals are a good portion - if anything we struggle to finish it! Food is delicious, tastes fresh.. outstanding!! The pub is warm and decorated beautifully so a great place to spend this time of year but also has a very pretty beer garden which is lovely in the summer. Bar snacks are also available and the menu has small plates and a light bite section if you’re only after something small and it’s the perfect pub grub! I’m always excited to go back ! :) 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! The people that run the establishment are some of the nicest most welcoming people I’ve encountered in my years of working away. A home from home is how they have made me feel every single time I’ve stepped through their doors. Excellent food even better company and fantastic staff. Highlight of Well’s in my opinion x

We were extremely disappointed by the food. We ordered 3 dishes for £17. The salad was old and dry, the nachos were very poor.

Don't order food, when asked how the food was and I said I wasn't happy with the food. it was clearly old and prepared days ago. The member of staff didn't know what to do, shoddy, surprised the pub is still open serving food at that poor standard

The food is abysmal. My friend and I visited a week ago. I had a burger that I couldn't finish due to it tasting mouldy. It was cooked in the middle and raw on the outside. Quite insulting really.

First time I have been in this pub since it re-opened. First impression of front bar area was good, lovely old beams amd fireplace. Enough seating not to be crammed in. Discovered later a second much larger towards back of pub. Toilets are accessed from there up the stairs unsure if there are any disabled facilities. Quite a large menu of basic "pub grub". We only wanted a quick light lunch so had steak ciabattas, I was impressed that I was asked how I wanted my steak cooked as normally in other places it just arrives! Small side salad bit disappointing as it was just mixed leaves with no tomato, onion or peppers, not even any dressing. We had ordered some chips but they got forgotten so we had nearly finished when they did arrive! Overall tasty but basic, quite good value for money. Not sure on what beers, ciders wines etc but it looked a good selection. As per usual non alcoholic drinks very expensive, £1 for half pint of lime and soda and over £2 for half pint of coke Zero! You could also have coffee or tea.

Could be improved. Staff were rude and food was not great. I came at 2:15pm and my food arrived 40 minutes late. And they didn't come to tell me why my food was late which made me fustrated and it felt like they did not care about me.

A no nonsense, good value for money pub and eatery.

This is a fabulous pub serving good pub grub in lovely surroundings. Above & beyond in terms of service, clearly under staffed but made every effort to take orders, serve food & drinks & be hospitable with a smile, never got flustered or frustrated - well done! A massively busy evening with the World Cup rugby on, great atmosphere, loved it.

Thoroughly recommend if you are after a large gathering, we had a table of 16 of us for food in our own room, easy pre-order, food was fantastic, the new menu is really good - that staff went above and beyond to make it a great meal. Thank you!!

Krystal and her partner run a top class place here at The Kings Head. We’ve just had a meal with friends and the service and quality of the food was amazing. What a superb little quaint pub bang in the centre of Wells. Really really tasty and great prices with a menu that’s easy to choose from. Chicken wings and steak to die for. The puddings were massive and all 4 of us cleaned our plates and left nothing. Service with a big smile and no rush either. Will definitely be coming here again. Very, very pleasant experience. Well . . confused I am ??? I was using the web just to find out evening service times and took a peek at some reviews believing they would bolster my own thoughts from many previous experiences. But I was shocked to see a dreadful review. I, along with friends and/or family, regularly visit the Kings Head for socialising and food and always have experienced happy friendly staff, with great service, great pub food at reasonable prices and always left feeling happy, full and content. Perhaps its fair to assume this terrible review was constructed by a Bull Frog that’s suffering from diarrhoea . . Maybe eat somewhere where they serve a bowl of soup . . You may find something in there to your taste Every company and individuals can have bad days but what are the chances to have a bad atmosphere, bad service, bad food at one single visit, I’m no mathematician but I would imagine pretty low, but not as low as this individual being able to make an honest and reflective review. Could there be an ulterior motive ?? If so I’m sure a Karma Curry will be delivered at some point !! We have tried a high proportion of the menu between us from breakfasts, burgers, pies and fish dishes . . even the odd sandwich and never had any reason for complaint regarding the food or service and always give deserved thanks and praise to the team. Keep up the good work guys and we are looking forward to your new imminent menu to try more . . Maybe not the soup though eh !!!

Met up with friends for a lunch time drink and meal. Nice menu with some vegan options. Great service and a good selection of beer. It does have TVs throughout, so there may well be sports on, but it was background noise where we were sitting.

We have been to the Kings Head many times over the past few months and only have good things to say about the pub and it's management and staff. Good food and drink and a welcome smile for us and our nervous rescue dog whenever...

This was a fantastic pub when it reopened, unfortunately the staff left a few weeks ago and the new manager and chef are terrible, the food is far below what we had been used too, obviously others feel the same, it used to be a struggle to find a table, now it’s almost empty

Called in while in Wells .. chose the Steak and Ale pie which was fabulous and even the green veg was hot .. friendly service .. would highly recommend.

We were very disappointed in the whole experience. There was no friendly greeting, we had to go up to the bar for literally everything. The food was just edible but only just. The tables were sticky. When we complained about the food it was blamed...

Poor poor greeting we had to self serve staff rude and unhelpful I had the chip chop platter and the curry sauce was stone cold I was told this is how it comes as it does not say hot on the menu they the staff told us its because its a Romanian chef, tables were sticky found a menu in the toilet so suspect won't be cleaned then given soup spoons for dessert all round a bad experience won't be going back.

Well the service was terrible we virtually self served won't have surprised me if we had to cook our own food ( which would have been better I ordered the chop shop plater with curry sauce which was stone cold and was informed that's how...

Myself and friends visited the kings head last night, expecting to only stay for 1 drink, but stayed until close. We had the BEST time, met amazing people and the staff were just brilliant! The atmosphere was spot on and the laughter did not stop!...

We have stayed in the centre of Wells for 5 nights and have come in here every day. On the first day Krystal welcomed our pup giver her a big hug and treats. Each day we get great service and Carley has been so friendly...

We arrived and found a table where a friendly waitress came and took the drinks and food order, at 12:30. I ordered the 3 for £15 small dishes. My family and friends ordered other meals. The drinks were bought out to us in speedy time. My 3 small dishes came 45 minutes later with the waitress saying “the others will follow shortly as a mistake was made where the team thought that these were ordered as starters”. Even though the menu does not state the small dishes are for starters! I had to eat the small dishes we my fellow diners watching with hungry bellies. Once I had finished eating I asked the waitress “how long the others would be as my family and friends were hungry. “ 15 minutes later the head waitress came over to repeat their mistake and offered to buy us another drink. Which we declined as food was more important as my friend is diabetic. I asked how long it would be. We were told that the dishes were being plated up and would not be long. This was at 13:30! We waited another 15 minutes before asking again. We finally decided to get up and leave at 14:10. What made us leave was being lied to and more upsetting was food kept being taken to other tables that were seated after us. Then the head waitress had the cheek to over charge us for the drinks!

We got a very friendly welcome at the Kings Head and they made a real fuss over our dog, bringing out water and treats straight away. Wide choice of food on the menu and it was good quality too. Decent pint of Otter Bitter too....

Food was not good, wait for food was poor and then came out at different times so we ate separately .then One meal Was inedible and had to be sent back . Complained to manager who clearly was not interested in our poor experience.some of the staff need training in customer service .

Have had lunch here a few times now and it never disappoints. Lunch is always very good and offers good value for money. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Good traditional pub with good honest food.

We went for food and drinks. Some staff were not welcoming, when we ordered food it took over an hour to arrive and when it finally arrived 3/5 meals were cold and luke warm. Won't be going back.

If you want a nice Sunday roast,don’t come here. The beef was like shoe leather. All the veg,including the potato was frozen food,no fresh veg.
