Drove past this place on the way to Glastonbury and thought, I want to go back and go inside there! So beautiful from the outside. Was welcomed with opened arms despite coming in an hour before closing. Derek the owner is amazing, he’s so funny and a great host. Brilliant drink recommendations, funny chat and the locals are also a laugh. So polite, old school vibe and the toilets are lovely and clean too. Love it here, will be back :) Emma x

We have had just the loveliest Sunday afternoon at this fabulous pub. It was like stepping into the past decoratively with an old fashioned lounge and dining area. The staff were friendly and warm from the moment we arrived and the food was outstanding. We had Sunday roasts and pie of the day and none of it disappointed. Piles of quality food, plenty of perfectly cooked veg and our coeliac missed out on nothing because they even had gluten free Yorkshire puddings 🙌🏼. A first for us when eating out. The roast dinner was superb and we’re hard to please because Dad’s Sunday roast is hard to compete with! Great puddings too and a great gluten free set of options once again.

I Ordered the beef roast, the beef was terrible, it tasted like processed beef, the rest of the food was ok, I made a complaint about it afterwards but they said they were sorry about that but still charged me the full amount , I was very disappointed about it, I won't be going again, The beef repeated on me for several hours after. Update. Never the less what you claim about your beef, it tasted terrible, if it was fresh cooked good quality beef this would be a different review. It strikes me that you just interested in profits not customer satisfaction, reduced cost for the poor quality beef would have helped, it made me annoyed .

I will never return to this pub out of principle. It was recommended by a friend who often goes with her family. I’ve not been for years, last time I did go (around seven years ago) it was great but things have changed, potentially because my friend and I aren’t locals or regulars. We booked a table and arrived to be completely ignored by the bartender for a good couple of minutes. He knew we were there and chose instead to continue a casual conversation with a female member of staff. No other customers in sight. Completely ignored us, not even an acknowledgment we were even stood there. When he finally decided to engage we were told where we could sit, which was quickly followed up with harassment about ordering food so he knew what he was doing for when it got busy. It didn’t get busy. The food was bare minimum and nothing special. The meat was the best bit which was actually very nice. Roast potatoes burnt. Vegetables were well cooked and not overdone thankfully. Atmosphere was awful. The pub was empty virtually and you could have cut the air with a knife. Everyone else (two couples in the same area) were intently listening to what my friend and I were saying. There was no hubbub, just deathly silence. We left early as being listened to like this was incredibly uncomfortable. Stood at the bar again for another long wait where the bartender continued his chit chat with a regular sat at the bar. Just a chat and again no acknowledgment we were even there. It took for one of us to step in and interrupt the conversation (must have been two minutes by this time) and ask for the bill, before we were paid any attention to. I’ve no idea what caused this treatment but it was sustained and isn’t something I am not happy to pay good money for again.

Came here for Sunday lunch last weekend. We received a warm welcome from the landlord and enjoyed a nice friendly chat with him. Shown to table in the bar and ordered two roast beef lunches. Enjoyed a wine and a very nice local ale whilst waiting. The lunches were absolutely delicious. Beef was tasty and tender, vegetables cooked well and all hot. Ordered a dessert each, which again was very nice and also homemade. We left feeling very full, portions are large! The pub was really busy with a friendly atmosphere. This pub is popular thanks to its great home cooking, reasonable prices and relaxing atmosphere. Booking essential for Sunday lunches.

Visited here with family who have eaten here several times before. The pub is traditional with the dark furniture and little corridors and nooks and crannies. Very warm welcome from all the staff and all our meals were hot and cheerfully served. My sister-in-law had the SMALL Salmon and Prawn Platter whilst I opted for the normal size! I soon saw why she had made that choice based on her pervious visit. Plenty of smoked salmon and prawns served with granary bread, butter and seafood sauce which you can add yourself to suit your taste. The accompanying salad had tomatoes, cucumber, carrot, celery, three types of lettuce, a boiled egg, red onion, spring onion, apple slices and orange segments – hopefully I’ve not forgotten anything. The meat pie meals were thoroughly enjoyed too. If we are visiting the area again I would hope we can manage another visit as we had no room to try a dessert!

We had been to the Waldegrave Arms on Valentines day and decided to hold our Silver Anniversary dinner there. We had a large party arranged and were given the little side room as requested. Due to the numbers involved I gave them a list of the meals required. Everything was ready to be served as soon as all our guests arrived, including one who got lost and was 1/2 an hour late, but there was no fuss. We were told that they''d wait as long as needed. The food was wonderful and everyone enjoyed themselves. We were later told that that one of the meals a couple of people had were no longer on the menu, but seeing as I had used the online version that was not up to date, they still provided what was wanted for us. How's that for service! Would thoroughly recommend stopping by. Very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to Derek, Allan and the gang for a very enjoyable and memorable evening.

We stopped here on the way back from a busy weekend climbing and the roast dinner was lovely. There was a good portion of chicken and the gravy was very tasty. They also accommodated my garlic intolerance with no issues which made me feel at ease. The only thing I would say could have been better are the Yorkshire puddings which were too burnt to eat. Overall a good experience and just what we needed after a long weekend.

We got reacquainted with the Waldegrave tonight and were not disappointed. Good ales and enough choices on starters, mains and sweets and small portions of some are available as well. Between the 4 of us we had the curry, the salmon and prawns, the liver and bacon and the baked ham with cauliflower cheese. 4 empty plates showed the food was good and the portions just right. We made room for desserts and coffees and the bill was a very reasonable £85 all in. The landlord and staff were just right and it is good to know there are still some really traditional country pubs close by. We’ll be back, thank you.

Had a great last minute meal in here , we were a party of seven , one of which was a toddler , our own hotel had no tables for dinner and we had kids to feed so we found The Kings Head and my husband asked if they had a table free , the bar staff checked and said they could fit us in . The staff and locals at the bar were really friendly . We had a lovely meal . My Daughter and my grandkids were happy and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The pub is a quirky building and tastefully decorated , we would return for another meal if we stay in area again .

My husband visited a music gathering on the neighbouring camp site . This pub owes him money for the meals they were meant to provide for him! He arrived this weekend only to find that there was no food. No one to speak to about this and no money refunded! Shocking. He had no food available all weekend so was very hungry on return. We will be taking advice on this and getting our money back. This pub is making a lot of money out of people and not providing the service they say they will do. Shocking! I am not happy.
