The Chelsea Cafe sums up mediocre, I have been back since my last review as I wanted to give it another go. Everything struggles to exceed average, the food is ok, the staff seem like they don't want to be there and the coffee is burnt.

Having a disability and not being able to wear a mask is not fun. I was sad this morning when I was told to wait outside, the Equality and Discrimination Act 2010 protect people from being discriminated against. I know that you are under a tough situation but Section 13 makes it an offence to force someone to justify their disability and section 25 makes it an offence is exclude service. Punishment is up to £9000 per case

This Cafe needs to be much more transparent when it comes to the Eat out to Help Out Scheme. I found out the hard way. Not a massive coffee bill but double what I had budgeted for. I had no idea that it wasn't embracing the Scheme fully...only food. I don't follow Instagram and no staff member explained that only food would get 50% off. No transparency there in my opinion. You find out when you pay! I support local businesses when I can and this Scheme has been great for me to do my bit. I now have a dispute with this Cafe about my hurtful use of the word "overcharge". If I'd known the facts I would have voted with my feet and my £14 would have gone to another local business. Yes Businesses need support but so do people at a time of financial hardship. It's a 2 way thing. Yes you have offered the refund but made me feel like I'm in the wrong. My only mistake was assuming that you were offering the Scheme in the spirit it was offered in all the other local Cafes. People are happy to do their bit but they don't like to feel duped.

A very disappointing experience. Underwhelmed by the food and the decor is in need of some serious TLC. The Westcombe Rarebit Toastie (£5.50 each) was very disappointing. Over cooked Toast but the filling was less Cheese and more Mustard. Brown mush. The Coffee looked nice but tasted like it was made using Camp Coffee out of a bottle.( £2.60 each) . Sorry Guys this was sadly a very disappointing first trip out after lock down and we wont be coming back again until the menu and the decor is improved. By the way, if you are sharing a pen with customers it shouldn't it be cleaned each time?

Me and my family went here for brunch on a Sunday while visiting Bath. We had been there for the Bath v. Ulster rugby match the day before and its safe to say we celebrated the win the Irish way. So on Sunday, with the mother of all hangovers, we went to seek refuge at 8e Chelsea Road. While the menu is small, I fancied the Welsh rarebit as it seemed like it might cure me - and good God, it was heavenly. I was lost and then the Welsh rarebit found me. I didn't know I was a fan of pickles either-but apparently I am when its beside a gorgeous Welsh rarebit. With a cup of coffee, it was honestly one of the best things I've had in a long time. Now while this WAS my very first Welsh rarebit, you may question my expertise and fair play - how would I know its good if its the only one I've had? And I was hungover, so of course it tasted good, right? But all I can say is that it was the closest thing to a spiritual experience I've ever had - appropriate for a Sunday! The rest of the fam had something else and everyone was really jealous of my rarebit and wished they ordered it too. The service was okay but to be honest I was too distracted by the food to notice.

This neighbourhood cafe lost its way for a while but with a new chef and menu the food is fabulous and just that bit different - which appeals to me. We sampled two items for breakfast so far and they were both delicious. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. The Chelsea Cafe ( now rebranded 8e) was previously a favourite place for breakfast or lunch. In our opinion it lost its way when a year or so ago it stopped doing food. The owners have now taken a new tack and hired a new chef. It’s not a large menu but sufficient As for the new chef - He or she is great. The Onglet was rare and very tasty; my partner raved about the Hake with braised fennel. Accompanied by local real ales on tap, this is now a fab place again. Definitely recommended.

The Chelsea Road cafe is a well established Bath landmark with a regular clientele including a Saturday morning cycle crowd who bring a delightful atmosphere as well as really tucking in ! Coffee is superb (do try the iced coffee on hot days) with plenty of locally made cakes, brownies and the like. There is a short menu with particularly good sandwiches.

It was a cold, wet day when I ventured into this cafe for a meeting. The temperature inside was similar to that outside and immediately I felt tense and unwelcomed. I asked the young assistant if it was possible to make the place warmer and I got the sense my request had aggrivated him.Ten minutes later, the nearby radiator was still cold so I tried asking what looked more like the manager. He answered my question with 'I'll try " (to put the heating one). It sounded rude to me.He muttered something about finishing what he was doing first. A simple "of course" would have felt a lot more inclusive and polite. I again felt that my request was not well received. Another 10 mins passed and I noticed the radiator was now on.I took s look at the menu and thought "pretentious and expensive". A "scaled down" English breakfast was almost £7! I chose a mocha which was fixed sullenly by the older staff member. It seemed that my request for a really hot mocha was also insulting even I giggled as I asked...The drink was very average with none of the depth or richness I expect in a mocha. £2.70 for a small mug: one that gets narrower as it goes down.Didn't enjoy this experience at all. Where is the customer service guys? Your customers could be really poorly; recovering from an op or shock or any number of things which may make someone feel more sensitive to the cold. Or was I not elderly enough to make these requests? Show some compassion next time? It's Christmas!

This was my second time here and this was just as bad as the first. It simply reinforced my first opinion. I had a meeting here and it was awful for a number of reasons. Arriving early in the morning to the sound of an elderly gentleman behind the counter talking, or should I say shouting, about cricket. What was worse was that you could clearly tell that the man he was talking to was uncomfortable and didn't care for the sport either. I work in customer service and I knew this was going to be an interesting morning. After eventually being noticed as I stood at the bar, I placed my order for a goats cheese panini and Americano- which I quickly got told is actually called a long black with milk. He knew what I was asking for but the guy started trying to educate me on coffee. He clearly knew everything. I bit my tongue. Ordering the coffee I sat down. Even the table wasn’t sturdy enough. It was bearable as long as I didn’t touch anything! It even felt like my laptop was covered in a thin layer of grease just entering the place. They need public showers there just to help customers combat the dirt accumulating the place. Sitting down I was expecting to get a half decent cup of coffee, considering the guy knew so much about coffee. But what I got I can only describe as the instant stuff anyone can make at home but without the taste. Definitely not worth the £2.00 I had to spend on it (or 200p to this patronising café!). My 550p Panini eventually arrived, resembling cardboard bound together by the most pathetic amount of what was apparently goats cheese. I could only eat half due to the roof of my mouth being shredded to pieces and the concern that it was impossible to eat quietly. I only ordered it because it was the only thing on the menu even remotely healthy! As for the man serving I found him rude and even a little patronising. I even witnessed him refuse to let a pregnant lady use the toilet as she wasn’t a customer. As someone whose job revolves around customer service, I wanted to record the whole thing to use in my presentations on how to throw customer service out of a window. If you’re in to faulty towers then this is the place for you. Although I recommend you bring plenty of hand sanitiser.

This cafe has cultivated a slightly rough and ready look inside - shabby chic without too much chic. It fills up with a whole range of locals and others, like me, filling the odd hour away from home. It's difficult to choose from the range of goodies ... My friend and I shared a 'jewel cake' (a slice with delicious bits on top) and carrot cake which was seriously good. Worth a detour - it's only a mile and a half from the town centre along the river, then up a little road. It's also in a parade of independent shops where I bought a 'vintage' dress on one charity shop and socks in another, then cards in the adjacent gift shop. A lovely area.

The Chelsea Cafe is in a suburb of Bath, about 1 mile from the city centre, in an area I know as Weston but the locals describe it as Chelsea village. So plenty of free car parking can be found here. There is certainly a Bohemian atmosphere here, aided partly by this cafe being in a lovely old (and probably listed) building which I imagine used to be a small chapel. My visit took place on a rather hot weekday in May at lunchtime. I ordered an all-day breakfast with coffee and it was delicious and served up quite quickly and politely. All of the outside tables were unfortunately occupied so I had to sit indoors but the ceiling fans make a good job of keeping the inside cool. As others have stated, prices here are not cheap but that is Bath for you - I would certainly have paid more if I ordered the same food in Bath city centre. I consider the food here good value for money, for the location. This cafe seemed popular even on a working day so I would imagine the relative lack of seats (about 30 I reckon) might prove a problem at peak times. There are a few points of detail which prevents this cafe getting the full 5 *. Firstly the floor - it looks at if the previous vinyl was taken up and then the floor just left in its rough state! The menus are not displayed on each table but held centrally at the ordering counter (so difficult to access if there is a queue) although there was one also displayed in the doorway - but standing there to browse that blocks the entrance of course. The 'specials' board was clearly displayed however so I find that a bit inconsistent. Condiments are not present on each table nor held centrally so have to be requested. The same with sauces, in fact the waitress had to go outside to retrieve what appeared to be the only bottle of tomato sauce available from one of the outside tables. Some might consider that penny pinching. I did not notice a 'Scores on the Doors' hygiene rating displayed but nothing gave me cause for concern on that front. To summarise - this cafe is totally recommended though if you are a regular eater here the costs would build up over time.

Went here after a walk and needed some warming up. Pretty trendy place but definitely not style over substance. Coffee nicely presented (with a swirl) and good taste. Yes its quite expensive but I think worth it. Bagel with scrambled egg very well done and my son loved his macaroni cheese...Will come back..,.

Came for breakfast, bacon sandwiches, eggs benedict and coffees, all very nice but I think they should invest in some better bread for the sarnie's rather than standard sandwich loaf as the bacon etc is so nice it deserves a better home. Good looking place, nice staff and importantly clean toilets!

this has a perfect sunday morning ambiance. there is a small menu which is no bad thing and would recommend the eggs benedict with salmon and coffee or tea reading the sunday papers by the large windows overlooking chelsea road.

I'm a regular at the Chelsea Cafe because its a great place for breakfast or lunch when you want something more fun that toast or a sandwich. I think the beetroot and goats cheese salad is great, but the poached eggs and ham is also really tasty when you want something simpler. Great coffee too, and service is reliably good.

I recently moved to a house about 20 yards from the Chelsea Cafe and I'm now spoilt for great food and coffee! They do one of the best flat whites in Bath, and with this much quality competition that's something to be proud of. The food is also excellent including the ever tempting cake selection.Yes you can find cheaper as some have mentioned but personally I think its pretty good value for the quality. The decor is welcoming and actually quite trendy for want of a better word and we (including the dog) have always felt very welcome.

Une bonne adresse pour un super breakfast anglais… qui se décline en 'standard" et XXL.Le patron est très sympathique et n'hésite pas à distiller quelques mots français. Une bonne table.

I happened upon this lovely cafe by chance a couple of weeks ago and have been back several times since. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the coffee is amazing. I have to admit I have sampled their cakes and I can recommend them too. Definitely worth stopping by.

Was just wandering round Bath one summer morning and happened upon the Chelsea Cafe. Turned out it was one of the nicest cups of coffee I've ever had. If i lived near here i'd be in all the time but I don't so probably thats my one and only visit to tho slovenly little cafe

I have only been there once as I no longer live in Bath, but had a fantastic English breakfast and a delicious Coffee. The person who served me seemed to have alit of knowledge and passion about Coffee. I asked him about the options and he gave me some very insightful answers. The place has a lovely local atmosphere which is sadly lacking in most chain coffee shops. I now live in Busan Korea, and they have 1000s of Coffee shops but 99.99% are chains with no atmosphere. Will be coming back in the Summer when come back to UK.

The cafe is a great asset to the Newbridge area of Bath. There's a nice feel to the place and the coffee is pretty good (though the cake I had was a tad stale). The service seems a little aloof though; when I ordered my coffee, I asked the chap serving whether it would be brought over to my table, or whether I should wait at the bar (I wasn't sure of the 'protocol'), he just said 'stay here' in a bit of a stressy manner. He might not have meant anything however. Will come back and try again!

The staff really make the place because they're always very friendly and welcoming. It's a nice place to stop for a coffee, and seems to be a hub where a lot of the local community go to meet up. The coffee is good - I've only had food there once, but the whole menu sounds pretty tasty. Prices are about what you'd expect for a cafe. This cafe isn't near the centre of Bath - I wouldn't go out of my way to go there as there are plenty of equally good cafes in the centre - but it's definitely the best place to pop into if you find yourself over that way.

.............that you would have to drag me AWAY, again and again and again!!!!Oh, I wish I lived nearby. It would definitely become my regular haunt. The staff and owner are funny and friendly, and welcoming. It's got a real "local" feel, great coffee and danish's, that's all I had time to sample. Thanks for the use of your Wifi when I needed it desperately. Look forward to returning at some time in the future. x

Nice food, amazing coffee, good service and always busy. I know a lot of local people who go there and swear by it as one of the best cafes in Bath. They are also very family friendly and have books for children etc. Food is all locally sourced and at an ok price. Would definitely recommend!

The Chelsea cafe is such a lovely place to stop, any negative reviews MUST be a one off. The staff are always cheerful, very genuine and friendly. This would make us love a place anyway ,however the food especially the breakfasts are great, all locally sourced and not bad price. We wish this venue was open in the evenings as we would love to walk down and enjoy the evenings at the Chelsea cafe. If you have the chance to , go here ! You cannot go wrong. True sign of a family owned business, with genuine friendly staff.

Popped in here for a coffee as we were staying around the corner. Very friendly staff, seating outside and very nice 'real' coffee. Didn't eat any food as it was a very hot day but the choice looked very good.

I'm afraid that my experience at the Chelsea Cafe was one that left me thinking that this place is going to disappear up its own backside. Why are the prices in 'p' and the only thing fuller about the fuller english breakfast was the price!! £8.50, I mean 850p... Note for the owner / manager - sometimes other customers don't want to hear your opinions on everything and might want a little peace.

Visited on Saturday morning with friends for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised to find this independent cafe nestled at the top of chelsea road , very reminiscent of Notting hill but without the pretence ,great coffee ,I had a long black which was exactly what I needed after the night before!! Our eggs benedict were divine ,we have now found our new weekend luxury retreat .Will definitely. Be back.

Morning number two of our weekend in Bath and time to find second breakfast spot. We loved the Chelsea cafe. I had the eggs benedict with salmon - came with spinach too and the hollandaise sauce was on the side. Fellow diner had the fuller breakfast which was enormous and looked fantastic. One of the best breakfast restaurants have been to!

So great if your hungry.Coffee is ok can be a little hit and miss but let's be honest, it's not the end of the world. All in all a great little place, with massive potential !

The Chelsea Road Cafe is the perfect place to have a quick cappuccino and a delightful sausage sandwich packed with locally sourced bangers. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and always make my stay very relaxing - I was so relaxed last time I read the paper from the day before and didn't even notice until the end! Supporting our independant traders is key to stop turning our wonderful city of Bath into another 'CHAIN' only city.

The seasonal 3-course menu (featuring more than three courses!) was a real culinary experience. Each course was magnificent and the whole dining experience was one of the very best. The service was impeccable, unpretentious, friendly and relaxed. The Olive Tree is definitely a restaurant we wish to revisit.

Big fan of Bills in general and often pop in for brunch when in London for work. Visited the Bath branch during a weekend away with my partner, and have to say it didn’t disappoint. Service was top notch and food consistent with what I’d expect of Bills. All in all, deffo worth a visit- especially for a spot of brunch before visiting the Roman Baths or other nearby spots!
