We went to The Blue Bowl Inn on Sat 9th Mar 24,to have a lunchtime meal commerating Mothers Day/ weekend. We sat in the public bar area where the atmosphere was warm and friendly and the locals were very hospitable. Ambiance was excellent. Our service was exemplary by the two Ladies that day ( Sue and Other). Food was excellent, Shelley and Her Mum, Pat had the Fish and chips. They absolutely loved it. They both said it was one of the Best They ever had! ( We are a foodies). I had the ' Tipsy Fillet of Pork' which was lovely along with very enjoyable vegetables and jacket potatoes and a gravy that was made especially for Me. They went out Their way to suit My dietary needs ( malabsorption disorder syndrome and diabetic). They were also very accommodating towards Our "Lovely little Lulu" Jack Russell. I've not been to the Blue Bowl in several years and had read some hit and miss reviews on TripAdvisor, but we decided to get together with friends and give it a go last night. The pub decor is relatively unchanged, but I did like a few quirky additions (the nod to Shaun of the Dead is great!) The menu is huge, which sometimes fills me with concern as quality can suffer, but we needn't have worried. Everything was presented well, cooked well and tasted great. Brie cider parcel starter was light and just the right amount. I followed with a Venison pie from their pie & pud special (£12.50 for two courses is insane value) The pie was a huge slice packed with meat and served with chips, peas and carrots. Great flavour and all cooked well. Dessert was a cheesecake which finished things off nicely. In the end, two starters, mains and puddings was £38.90 seemed like excellent value. Everyone in our party agreed it had been a very enjoyable evening and I'd recommend.

Food was lovely and staff great. I felt compelled to review after seeing a previous one regarding intolerances. I have coeliac disease and become incredibly ill with the tiniest amount of gluten. When we arrived I informed staff and was given a great choice of all courses. And also informed other courses could be adapted. The food was great and the staff were so nice and I had a lovely meal. It’s unusual I get to actually choose from all of the courses, but I did here. I had no ill effects from cross contamination. The kitchen and wait staff were all kind and thoughtful and very well informed about this allergy. Thank you and well done. First time in many years I have had more than one option and it was all delicious to boot. Also thank you for putting up with our noisy table of 7!

Had a meal there. Chose it due to Google ratings. Quite nice. Chose the "most popular" dish. Food was filling but not next level. Decor was good but still scope for improvement. Effort has been made on the outside bit, which looks good. . Need to ditch the tables inside the rear entrance etc. Filling pub food but lacks sparkle. I'm sure they will improve over time. However, I want food that's a bit special that I couldn't have knocked up myself. Saying that, it was a reasonably priced dish. I'm always on the look out for great places to eat, to bring others back to. Sadly you only get one chance to shine. Pub very presentable and recently upgraded. Good car park with security.

It's quite difficult to find a pub with a lot of choice for food at lunchtime these days - understandably I guess with energy costs, cost of living crisis and recruiting difficulties squeezing margins almost beyond the point of survival - they tend to offer very restricted lunch menus. Not here! So much so that I called to confirm they actually did offer that choice for lunch before booking. I had the rack of lamb - friend had the pork ribs. Everything was spot on - excellent dauphinoise potatoes, herb crust, gravy, vegetables - the lot! There must have been 50 covers in for lunch today. If they were all getting the same quality food as we were getting - that's impressive! I sincerely hope they are paying their cooks enough to ensure they are still there next time we come for lunch - highly recommended!!

We have been using the Blue Bowl on and off for over 15 years and it has become our favourite eating out place. Unfortunately it seems to have gone off these last 3 visits. Not mentioned anything before but last night was particularly bad. We made a telephone reservation 4 days prior to our visit and was told that as the owners were away there would only be a restricted menu. We were taking with us a guest from North America who was particularly interested in traditional English fish and chips and on booking I was assured that this dish would be available. Turning up on the night, not only did they not have any knowledge of my reservation but didn’t have the fish and chips either. They found us a table but then took over 20 minutes to get a drink and 1.15 hours to get a meal, which wasn’t what we wanted anyway. Very disappointed in service and a let down from what we have always liked about this place

So I bought a bottle for home!I don’t bother with reviews very often, but after lockdown businesses have obviously struggled. So when I come across something a little bit special now I think they deserve some credibility.Told her she’s missing a trick and should go on Dragons Den! Obviously a very talented lady! Took up the opportunity of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to book and revisit a restaurant that I had high hopes for a really nice dinner. Sadly, the food was disappointing with a very tasteless steak and passable special main course of the day (it was not special in taste). There was nothing to make a complaint about just really not special. I sadly will not be returning and glad we did not have to pay the full price. I have considered that the establishment may have down graded the quality because of the Govt deal but if so, they have mis-economised because I will not be returning. They were very busy on a nice summer evening and staff were friendly and working very hard to accommodate the large number of guests. There was a very long delay on food, which we were made aware of, but wouldnt have minded if food was good!

Just returned from the blue bowl, which in the past has been a nice experience. However I have to say I have just experienced the worse Sunday lunch I have ever come across. At 65 years of age it must be bad.My wife ordered a smoked salmon with prawn and avocado salad, she asked the waitress if this came with bread and was told no. So she ordered bread and butter on the side. We also ordered a roast beef lunch, and a lamb roast lunch. When are food was served low and behold there was bread and butter served with the salmon and prawn. So we were charged extra for stuff we need not have ordered. Getting to the Sunday roasts, they were both served together with a small dish of cauliflower, carrots , and something nobody at the table was sure of.the roast potatoes were not cooked and were rock hard, most went uneaten. There were no greens at all served, so the plate was not that appetising. Also there was something on the plate of the roast lamb that looked like an undercooked omelette. Again nobody at the table new what it was and niether did the waitress when asked, though it looked disgusting and went back with the wishes.Wont be visiting again, sorry to say.

Most of our group, six adults and three children, had one of the excellent burgers on offer here, I opted for the steak and ale pie. Everything was of a very high standard, well cooked and flavourful. There was a bit of a wait to be served but as I said the place was really busy. A few of our group had a second course and with quite a few drinks the bill for all nine of us came to £170. Reasonable considering the quantity and quality of food. We split a meal of Piggy Back Mac (pulled pork mac and cheese), which was nice. I’m glad we split it as eating a whole one would be pretty intense! Also shared a goats cheese burger (beef patty included). This was nice, although included a very springy salad, and large rings of raw white onion. Would be great if swapped for some soft leaves like spinach, and grilled or fried red onion served with it instead. The burger was swimming in sweet chilli sauce and whilst the flavours were good, a side dish of this sauce would work better.Puddings were pleasant, although took a very long time to come out. From start to finish we were in the pub for 3 and a half hours - fine if you’re happy with a leisurely pace.Close to nice walks and would be likely to make a return visit.

Although the Blue Bowl is 15 miles away we thought it would be worth the it, unfortunately it was not. We were shown one of the reserved tables and asked if it was ok, we sat down and soon realized it was not, due to being too close to the bar, which meant we found it difficult to hold a conversation due to the noise and worse was having peoples bottoms next to our faces whilst they were standing at the bar. I ask to be moved, this was refused. I do not understand why the young lady asked it the table was ok, if she had no intensions of changing our table. The bar became busier and the issues far worse, we asked twice more to be moved before our meal arrived, on the last occasion they said we could change to a table in the other bar, but that we would have the same problems on that table. There were two other unoccupied reserved tables in the room we were in, that we could have been moved to, one of which stayed unoccupied until 9pm when the reserved sign was removed, that table was not used at all whilst we were at the pub. Just before our meal arrived we moved the table down a little and put a chair between us and the bottoms in our faces. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was put on the table unopened. We all ordered steak, it was ok, nothing special, the two of use that had rib-eye steak had to work our way through the gristle, not great steaks. The meal was definitely not worth the journey. The staff could do with a lesson in customer service. Our friends said they would not return or recommend the Blue Bowl, as we were the ones to make the booking at the Blue Bowl we are very disappointed with them.

Family of 4 Sunday lunch booked for 1pm. Restaurant was not busy although the food order took over half an hour to arrive. We chose a roast beef & lamb. When the food was brought out the beef was raw and blood mixing with the gravy. We complained about this and returned the meals, this time with only the lamb. New food arrived but the roast potatoes were rock solid and the veggies hard. Very disappointed with the meal. We asked for a reduction or free deserts. The restaurant agreed on a free dessert. We went for chocolate fudge cake - this came with either cream or ice cream. Those that ordered it warm came out room temperature and the sponge was very dry. Not a good visit.

We're sat in the Blue bowl inn after what I can describe as the best meal both myself and my partner have had in a long long time. We arrived at 1830 on a saturday night.. All the the tables were reserved.. within 15 minutes the place was packed.. which was testament to the quality of food and service. We were served by the lovely Matilda who was very attentive and always had a smile. I had the steak and mushroom pie which was oozing filling.. very deep.. very hot with mash and seasonal vegetables. My other half had the Hercules burger which was massive. He could only finish half of it. The food like I say was piping hot which is highly unusual to be honest. The verdict is.. if ever you are around this part of Somerset.. come here but you would need to book early

My wife has been vegan for the last 2 years and it is fair to say that menu choices for her are continually frustrating. She belongs to an ignored group of society who almost have to apologise for turning up for a meal. The Blue Bowl was another example. We asked if they served vegan food and were given just one option from the main menu, a mixed bean chilli - provided the cheddar cheese was removed, along with the sour cream. From another smaller snack menu she chose a jacket potato with baked beans, accompanied by house salad. Ok, it would be right to say she was supplied with a vegan meal but it was yet another compromise. Whoever is responsible for the menu is apparently either not capable of or not interested in providing just one imaginative meal which is totally designed for someone wanting a plant-based non-dairy plate of food.

Currently 2 nights into our 3 night stay, and it's already proved to be just a perfect place. Didn't really know what to expect as I couldn't find mny images of the bedrooms etc, but they are beautiful. Big wooden beams, nice and spacious, and the comfiest beds we've ever slept on (including our own!)

Just visited last night, first time in a few years. Was simply a pleasure to be there. Great home cooked food, and the deserts were first class. Dog freindly in the bar, and the bar staff were great, bringing our dog a bowl of water without us asking.

Our recent visit was very disappointing. Only 2 items of mains on the specials board, which we both ordered. However, the quality was not good. Service was poor and not up to the usual standard that we have enjoyed on numerous occasions in the past.

I had a light lunch here with friends whilst out cycling in the area. Even on a Sunday the menu is extensive: apart from the obvious Sunday roasts, there was a full a la carte menu and a separate sandwiches & jacket potato menu. Full marks. We all had sandwiches, and they were freshly prepared and well presented. Lovely beer garden too.

While touring the southwestern UK on vacation on June 17, 2019 and looking for a place to eat dinner, my wife and I noticed the number of automobiles in the parking lot of the Blue Bowl Inn at West Harptree, near Bath and Bristol, and decided to stop. We went inside where I ordered a bowl of beef chilli (that’s the way they spell it) after being assured the kitchen could make it as spicy hot as I wanted it. I wondered. Being accustomed to using about 12 varieties of homegrown habanero, scorpion, bhut jalokia (ghost) and Carolina reaper peppers in my food, I have high heat standards. The Blue Bowl’s chef met those standards with the hottest bowl of red I have ever been served in a restaurant anywhere. It had cheese grated on top which made it even better. It tasted great and burned very nicely with a conflagration type fire and brought a torrent of forehead sweat and completely contented, but red-faced, smile to my face. I heartily recommend anyone seeking a really high Scolville Scale heat level bowl of chili (or chilli) to go way out of their way to visit this restaurant for its outstanding capsicum gastronomic delight. Remember to answer, “Somewhere between 11 and 11.5,” as I did, when asked where on the heat scale, from 1 to 10, I desired the heat level. But don’t wimp out and leave some in your bowl. Remember to leave an extra tip for the chef to show how much you enjoyed the chili. This was my top experience for the entire vacation. Well, okay, maybe on a par with seeing the Magna Carta copies at the British Library and at Salisbury, or the Rosetta Stone, or maybe Stonehenge, and for the amazingly low price of less than 10 Pounds.

Stumbled across this pub up a side street when out walking around Bath. Looks a good place to watch sport, as it has plenty of TV screens. Also has a pool table. Some outdoor seating out the front and has a tiny patio area at the back.

A dog friendly cafe, so a good walk round Keysham park will deserve a breakfast, or lunch for that matter. Please be aware that the Breakfast offer (free tea/coffee) with full breakfast has ended and prices have risen, now 35% extra for the above. I've had to drop my food rating due a change in the sausage/bacon supplier. It's a real shame as I really looked forward to my breakfast.

1st time, came in for a breakfast, ordered drink and food at the bar, drink and cutlery arrived quickly, both mine and partners cutlery had to be replace as they had dried on baked beans which wasn't a nice sight. The coffee wasnt too bad. Food arrived swifty after, and it looked enormous. Unfortunately we ordered white toast but we both received brown, not a problem though just abit annoyed, the eggs seemed half cooked with that clear gooey substance across the toast which really put us off. The bacon wasn't cooked enough for me either, the fat had no colour to it at all. The fried tomatoes had italian herbs sprinked over which didn't work for me in a full English might be nice with a pasta dish maybe, but not a breakfast. The mushrooms had the same treatment but were stone cold. Sausage I think were just about cooked, Lincolnshire sausage nort being my first choice for a breakfast. Hash browns were fine and baked beans were fine. Not usually keen on black pudding but I usually do eat it, except this one, yuk. Not the best service, we watched a waitress patting a dog I hope she washed her hands after! other dogs in there some barking ofte, and being walked through the tight gaps between the tables. The chairs and table being a mish mash and so not being able to pull the chairs under as they didn't fit wasn't good. The table needed a good hoovering off between the joints as they looked filled with dirt and grime. No parking. I will most definitely not be visiting this place again very disappointing experience.
