The best restaurants serving British food in South West

We came here a few times while in the area and I was really impressed with the options. The vegetarian sausage roll and gluten free vegetarian sausage baps were both lovely. The gluten free vegan brownies are heaven too

When we visit Yate we always like to go to Boswells the food is always lovely and the staff are always helpful. They have plenty of staff and they all seem to be happy in their work. Tables are always cleaned and when observing I see that the staff are always on hand to help people that need a hand taking drinks to their tables and anything they need. The restaurant has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and I liken it to a community meeting place. Lovely tasty food well cooked with a great choice and always a welcoming smile from the staff, which makes a huge difference to feeling welcome. Thank you to all I look forward to our next visit. We popped in Saturday afternoon with the kids expecting to be turned away without a booking and with our noisy pair of 6 year olds in tow…! However, with much pleasant surprise a few hours late we were third cocktail in having dined deliciously in the sun-drenched main room and had the perfect Saturday afternoon all round! Thank you! The passion fruit martini’s are a must!

What a very disappointing evening. We had checked on line for the last two weeks and it said it was open and had decided what we were going to have eat. The photos of the pub was amazing. We got dressed up and walked to the pub after a long journey to get here for our holiday. When we arrived there it was closed. There is nothing else in Carhampton to get something to eat. We had to walk back to our place and then try and find somewhere else to eat The website is still so how many other disappointed are going to go there for their dinner.

We spent the afternoon at Budock Vean celebrating Mother’s Day with our families, including both Mum and Mother-in-law, and had a truly wonderful experience. The team were absolutely fantastic from start to finish, and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea – everything was delicious and beautifully presented. A special shout out goes to Wendy, who was fabulous and really made our afternoon feel extra special. Nothing was too much trouble, and her relaxed, friendly approach made us all feel so welcome – we honestly felt like she could’ve joined us at the table, she was that much fun! We’re already planning our next visit, especially to try out the pool and jacuzzi. Thank you to everyone at Budock Vean for such a lovely day – we’ll be back very soon! 🧁🍰🫖☕️

I went with my family for an overnight stay at The Bologbroke Arms on 27/09. We checked in mid afternoon and decided to venture to the bar for a quick drink. We enjoyed the ambience and quality of service so much that we ended up staying for food, which was excellent. However, what really sets the Bolingbroke apart is the outstanding service from the team, with a special mention to Jess and co on the dinner service for helping us to enjoy a lovely evening. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Am unexpected delight! We had ham hock and pea hash, seasonal soup, bacon sandwich, and it was genuinely one of the tastiest lunches we've ever had. Packed full of flavour. Service was fast, friendly and helpful. Thank you for a really lovely lunch!

Excellent welcome from land lady Margaret A very talented lady as the decor inside the pub proves. Staff polite and helpful . Very friendly place locals happy to share their enthusiasm for their rejuvenated community Pub. Another local shared how good the food is and from what we saw all looked very tasty with thoughtful presentation. We will be back to eat with friends to support this unique place . No longer called The Drovers now the Cockerel new name new vision new approach

I have previously had some great lunches and dinners here and was keen to try a breakfast. I went with a friend and we both went for the Forest Full English. I was not disapointed it was a proper size breakfast that would easily carry a person through to tea time. Quality ingredients all freshly cooked, none of this fashion of sausages cooked only on one side and bacon that has been quickly waved over a candle. Every item was spot on and presentation was perfect too. The staff were super frriendly and attentive. I told the staff at the time it was one of the nicest breakfasts I have had in years, on reflection I was wrong. I think it is the nicest breakfast I have ever had (and I am a breakfast sort of person), one of the few places that does tradional fried bread too. I could not recommend highly enough.

Very greasy food horrible coffee the waiter mark had dirty hands and clothes and the owner was aggressive and rude and didn't want to correct the issues

We came for Saturday lunch after a beautiful walk to Wistman's Woods. Staff were very friendly and efficient and even though it was busy and we hadn't reserved we received a table in the restaurant. The menu was varied and the food was wonderful. This accompanied by their locally brewed Ale made our lunch memorable. We came back in the afternoon after another long walk and enjoyed their lovely scones and tea and took a souvenir pack of their Ales On Sunday we returned and even though their Sunday roasts were fully booked we managed to get a seat and enjoyed the light lunch menu, consisting of homemade sausage roll, quiche and a very delicious soup. Compliments to the chef!

Stopped here for a quick lunch. they only serve pasty’s or sausage rolls hot , comes with no side salad or crisps like others usually do but was very nice all the same . it was empty when we got there but soon filled up . lovely garden to sit in also . friendly service. we will return .
