What a very disappointing evening. We had checked on line for the last two weeks and it said it was open and had decided what we were going to have eat. The photos of the pub was amazing. We got dressed up and walked to the pub after a long journey to get here for our holiday. When we arrived there it was closed. There is nothing else in Carhampton to get something to eat. We had to walk back to our place and then try and find somewhere else to eat The website is still so how many other disappointed are going to go there for their dinner.

Amazing chef and friendly, welcoming bartender. I had the chicken burger, which was beautifully cooked and had a tasty crispy batter. My wife only wanted something small, so they made some garlic bread (which wasn’t even on the menu). A table near us shared a tomahawk steak, which looked spectacular. Will be trying that next time. Good pool table in a nice secluded side room. With the current people running it, this is a lovely pub.

We are staying in Carhampton and have driven past many times. We are so glad we decided to eat here, the food was brilliant. I had the gamon egg and chips ,it was the best I've had for a long time.Hubby had fish and chips. my son had chicken burger .we all agreed it was delicious. We would recommend this characterful pub to anyone who likes good food at a reasonable cost. They are also dog friendly with water and treats available.

Have been a local for 25 years, always enjoyed going to the pub until under new management, very rude and hostile towards me just because I asked for a takeaway cup for my drink, just to be clear they served me until kick out but would not offer any sort of takeaway cup if they had over served you and forced you to leave when you still had remaining drink, got extremely aggressive towards me when I asked for a takeaway cup and made personal insults when I did, horrible horrible service considering I’m a local who only wanted to encourage and support the small business

Thought we'd pop down to our local for a quick drink early evening. Sad to say were given the once over by a group at the bar, not particularly welcoming or friendly, and neither were the bar staff. Because of this and after a very expensive round we chose to drink outside. Although we try to support our local pub, we definitely won't bother going back anymore.

We came in for drinks on a Saturday and it was welcoming but quite empty, it’s a big space as well. On the Sunday we decided to try the carvery and it was probably the best carvery I’ve had for a long time. Only slight niggle was there wasn’t much of vegetable options. Was very busy on the Sunday afternoon so it’s best to book prior

Following a fantastic Friday evening in the pub with live music, we were delighted to find out that the pub were serving a full English breakfast on the Saturday morning. Nursing a bit of a sore head, and booking with friends the previous night, we all met as agreed at 10.30am and were greeted by Kieron & Callum and treated to a fantastic English fry up. Superb ingredients and great value for money! I would hope this is served up again in the coming weeks and months and would highly recommend this to anyone that’s in the Minehead area. Keep it up chaps; Respect 😋😋

This is an old pub, located at the heart of the village. Has some very old features, such as a pebble floor. Seems to date from 17th century. We got a pleasant welcome. We visited just for coffees, which were decent. Seems to be a sports pub, maybe focussing on horse racing.

Responding to Cheltenham Festival flyer we decided on a punt. My husband declared his pint of Otter and Pizza at £10 an easy winner, whereas I very nearly pecked and ran out upon being charged £8.50 for 175 ml red wine and a packet of crisps. Clearly we shall need a considerably heavier purse before we can afford to support our local pub again. 🏇🏇🏇

As a regular local to the pub very disappointed with the landlords who are leaving at the end of November. They are blatantly ripping off people as they do not care about custom. Spent money on an expensive round a t a regular meeting with locals only to find that rounds were not given to people who were due a round. I know that the landlords are leaving but do not rip off locals who keep the pub running

Since the management changed in the spring (2022), I was really hoping for an upgrade in food, and a deep clean to remove the smell of stale smoke. Under previous managers, who were lovely, I witnessed such atrocities as a waitress picking out food from the Sunday buffet with her fingers. I regularly called through early summer to ask if food service had restarted, and was told there were delays with refitting the kitchen and sourcing local suppliers - sounded promising! By late July they were serving food, and I ordered lasagne and vegetables. When it arrived, it was clear that everything was from frozen and reheated…so gave the dog my mushy carrots and peas. Others ordered burger and chips, which was better than mine and reasonably priced; but the type of burger you only serve to undiscerning children. And still a very strong smell of stale smoke and split beer. What a shame! I may return, but not to eat.

My husband and I visited The Butcher Arms this evening after driving past many times. Today we saw a sign for fish and chips for two for £15, so thought we'd give it a go. I wish we hadn't. The decor is very dated and dark - not in an olde worlde way, just a dated way, but we looked past that and hoped for the best. One plus is that the barman was very friendly. Our food was brought out by a young lad that wasn't exactly service with a smile. We had to ask at the bar for cutlery. The food that came out was disgusting, the fish was generic frozen fish that was dripping with grease. We also ordered puddings, I enjoyed mine.Upon leaving, the landlady called us over to loudly announce that we were leaving without paying for our puddings, even going to the lengths of unplugging the till tablet and showing us that they weren't paid for!!! All of this in front of customers. My husband had ordered and paid at the bar. After trying to explain this, she eventually accepted that maybe it wasn't updated on the till and that the barman had left for the evening. Not the nicest way of ending our evening! Disappointed and embarrassed.

We pass this pub each time we drive into Minehead and have been meaning to visit since we moved to Somerset in September. The entrance is a fair old walk for me from the car park as I have mobility problems, and it's not the easiest car park to get out of either as it's on a really busy road. The staff were very nice. I was warned by a regular that the 'landlady is barking mad' but if she was the lady who served us, there was no evidence of this...!I ordered lasagne - didn't read the menu board properly and I wasn't expecting chips. Just a salad would have been sufficient. The lasagne was lovely. Mike had the sausage, egg and chips and loved it.The only thing that really spoiled the visit was that the place was FREEZING COLD. Okay, we went at lunchtime and maybe at night the fires are lit and it's warmer. But I could not feel my hands.Maybe visit again in the spring/summer when the weather's warmer.

We were on holiday and stopped off after a day out for a meal on the way home. This is a proper pub and serves good food - not "gastro". You get your dinner on a plate - not a slate or plank and the sauces are in sachets. This suited us down to the ground. The surroundings are pleasant and comfortable, the service swift and smiling. The staff all clearly work hard. I ordered scampi - which was the best I've had for along time, and my husband had the home made lasagne which he thought was excellent. Both dishes were hot and plentiful. The toilets although could do with an upgrade, were, unusually for a lot of "posher" establishments, clean and there was plenty of hot water, handwash and loo roll. Even the handryer worked well. Sadly there were few people there, even though it was a Thursday. Shame on you Carhampton - don't throw this gem away. I will definitely visit again when next in the area.

We have previously visited The Butchers Arms and enjoyed it so we thought we would try it again on our holiday. We walked in and there were very few tables to choose from. We were told on arrival that there was a long wait for food. We asked how long the reply was oh well we are on our own only 1 in the kitchen. We decided to stop as we were hungry. We ordered drinks at the bar and chose from the limited tables available. There were no menus on the table only a chalk board with a very limited menu on the wall. We ordered promptly at the bar. Food came after about 30 minutes. Butter chicken was not butter chicken but a cheap curry mix with a tiny amount of chicken and very very watery. Lasagne was overcooked and tasted burnt. Burger again tasted burnt and no side salad or veg just chips. We were never asked if food was ok in fact no one came to us at all. There were dogs in the pub too which I am personally not a big fan of. We ate what we could and left. We will not be returning as the meal was highly overpriced for the food and service we received.

Since my last review in 2014, this pub that sets out to offer a restaurant style evening has changed hands, maybe more than once. On offer now are the basic pub classics with added Indian and Chinese sub menus, without any chalk board "specials" now. The food quality and price were both good, but we were appalled by the prominent "NO TABS" notice on the bar and the refusal to take a hostage credit card behind the bar whilst the 6 of us in the party decided on our choices. This may be ok for Weatherspoons customers but, in our view, not acceptable in a country pub restaurant. We were shown to a restaurant area away from the bar but not told that ordering and pre-paying at the bar was required. We were obliged to pay immediately for our first drinks. One of our group had to borrow pen and paper to complete the food selections of the group!Service at the table was adequate, but overly informal. We did not want the bother of queuing up again for further drinks or sweets and are unlikely to return.

It's advisable to book as it can get very busy. There were 2 meats on offer today.......beef and pork. We both had a slice of each. We got a Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roast potatoes, new potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, green beans, peas and sweet corn and gravy. The price was £9.95 and it included a pudding. I had the Black Forest gateau with cream. There were profiteroles as the second choice. I found this extremely good value for money and I'd definitely recommend it to everyone. I visited this pub earlier today with my partner and children, and two other families. I went in to have a look and see what it was like, I used the facilities and was rudely told they were for customers not general public, the pub was almost empty, so we would of filled it, oh well, won't be returning here, and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Went here for lunch after spending the morning at the Dunster Country Show. Was quiet but beer was very good and we ordered food which came quickly and wow what a plateful. Good food and very hot and tasty.2 of us had a lasange with chips, salad and garlic bread and one had a curry all of which was good- so much so no room for a desert !

Another pub when visited a few years ago appears to have let itself go! Starter, pâté was just served with butter and toast, no garnish and no chutney which these days pretty much all goes together so that it adds flavour and colour of which my pâté lacked. Second course, lasagne again lacked taste and goodness knows what cheese was used! My husbands chilli con carni was OK but a little dry, sour cream and guacamole would have helped the palette. Again, not many staff and the bar left unattended for fairly long periods as bar maid had to also help with taking food orders out. Great shame.

Stopped here when me and my partner were looking for somewhere to eat while on a weekend trip in Somerset. We went in on a Sunday evening the place was quiet (we didn't mind). The food was amazing and the staff were brilliant so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. If we doGo back to Somerset, we will be stopping here again for sure. Thank you :-)

Long opening hours and situated on the busy A39 means this place is seemingly always open while other eateries are closed at certain times. Therefore well pleased to find it open and serving meals late on a Sunday evening, also well pleased to find the day's special still available. The Lamb shanks were delicious, slithering off the bone into the chosen vegetables. Service was friendly and helpful.

We stopped at The Butchers Arms for Sunday lunch while travelling home from a weekend in Dunster. We chose here because they offer a carvery - however, it was VERY disappointing. Not all the the items were available, and although being told that when they were ready, they would bring them over to me (which they forgot), the meals was very bland with peas, sweetcorn and carrots as the only veg - apart from a weird spicy mediterranean mixed veg offering which would be fine with pasta, but not a carvery. The meat was very over-cooked and I was only given two very small slices.

On holiday at Dunster Chalets and wanted somewhere close by to eat not too fancy and not too expensive. I had the scampi and hubby had the steak both of which were very nice and good value for money. Would go back again.

They called it a Carvery... I call it aunt Bessies day off! I like My food and this wouldn't even get a 1 rating if I could score zero. Frozen spuds, I'd say frozen meat to, watery gravy, I may of ate a more tender shoe then the beef. None of us finished our grub and at 9£ a meal I wish I went macdonalds!! Unsatisfying bland and quite terrible. Can't speak about the alcohol though but unless your use to prison food and like it I'd keep driving!

Having been to many carveries i can honestly say this is one that i wili not be recommending, a very limited vegetable selection and the meat was very poor in quantity and quality.

we came here on a horrible wet evening and found a gorgeous roaring log fire and lovely welcoming staff. My husband had a beautiful steak and ale suet pudding which came with mash and vegetables. I had the chicken provencale which was decorated beautifully but I found the chicken a bit dry. I had it with chips and it was all served nicely. It's good value for money and I would definitely go back to try other things on the menu. The carpark is across a busy road and on a bend so it's not the easiest place to access.

We dined here on our first night of our mini moon. The pub was quiet, then again it was a Monday night. The beer and wine were good and the food was excellent. My partners chicken was a little dry but this was the only small point in a lovely old pub. The wood burning stove was a lovely treat as it was pouring down with rain outside. The only other point to note is the car park is across the road at a blind bend and on a hill! However as long you keep this in mind do not let this put you off!

Whilst not a pub "regular" here I have returned from time to time and have always enjoyed their typical pub fayre and good service. On a recent visit I was able to sample their carvery where turkey and beef were on offer. The meat was good and whilst the veg were ok the roast potatoes could have been crisper. Overall I can recommend the Butchers as a reliable, but not special, eatery that I will doubtless return to.

We had some lovely food with friends, served very politely and timely... The only thing that misses this being a five is the atmosphere - it was a little lifeless and the decor a bit naff. But for a great pub meal, if you're in the area, definitely worth checking out.

Called in here early evening and ordered our drinks and food. All came in good time, unfortunately the game meal was tough with not a lot of meat. I had the faggots which was advertised on a bed of mustard mash. the mash was separate and the faggots were in a jelly like substance with cabbage!! The waitress offered us a free sweet which again was a bit boring. On leaving they deducted one main course and charged the sweet. OK swings and roundabouts but not very business like. We have been here on several occasions but the food does not warrant a return.

Stopped off for lunch on a breezy October day and was delighted with a warm tasty meal. Steak & Ale Suit Pie was absolutely superb and my first visit (although I have passed by regularly for over 60 years) will not be my last. Deserves success.-

We managed to get into the Bottom ship on Friday 14th December, we were glad to have our annual winter visit as the weir was having issues with electric and a new generator had been put in that morning. The foid we has was excellent the beer as normal presented well and the warmth from the establishment is always heart warming, thank you to the staff to the lovely lady who's name we didn't catch and louis who has been an asset to the pub for our visits for the last 4 years, long may you continue to honour the traditions of Exmoor

This is now called Exmoor fish and chips. Very clean and well run, girls wearing hairnets. Very quick service. The Boss had small cod, cooked fresh which she pronounced excellent. I had pie also very good. Shed load of really good chips. All in all a good chippie. I recommend them.
