The Babbling Brook in West Somerset

My wife and I are new to the area, we went for a meal and what an excellent discovery we made with The Babbling Brook Inn. A wide-range of menus, excellent food, very friendly staff and a great vibe. This will definitely become our regular!

Booked a table for my wife and our dog Penny. This was our first visit to this delightful pub. We have walked our dog in this area and planned to visit the Babbling Brook for some time. When we went in we were greeted with a very friendly member of staff. It was a great environment with both locals and a couple of family groups. The local lads were really friendly and their presence made the pub feel well used and gave it real atmosphere. It was something that we were glad to see. I had fish and chips and my wife had sea bass, the food arrived quickly and it was piping hot. My fish and chips were excellent and the portion sizes were very generous. My wife said her sea bass was very good as well. The young girl who looked after us couldn’t have been nicer, not sure of her name, but hope when we go back she is there. Absolutely plan to return for my birthday this month. Thank you all very much for a great evening, I would definitely recommend this great place..

Myself and my partner came here for drinks on the Friday whilst staying at a nearby campsite, with the vision to book a table for Saturday night for our anniversary, all I can say is what lovely staff, very friendly and attentive. We had a lovely evening in a lovely atmosphere. On the Saturday we went in for at 6:50pm with our table booked for 7:30pm. The staff were the same as the night before, and we were seated and served by 7pm. The food was gorgeous, and we will definitely return when we’re up that way again :)

Delicious carvery with generous portions.

A lovely gem of a find, hidden away in Shurton. We stayed in one of their rooms overnight and ate at the pub. The room was basic, but clean, lovely fluffy towels and a really comfortable bed. The star of the night however was was the food and the fabulous service we enjoyed at the pub. Full marks for taste, value, service and a wonderful, welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Well done all x

You can't book in until 6pm. The radiators don't work. The shower was only luke warm

We had a meal for my wife's birthday, a group of 15. Great food,value for money. The service was excellent and the ladies behind the bar were very friendly and welcoming.

Delicious food in a lovely secluded pub with super friendly and helpful staff. Recommended!

A little disappointed we had to wait until after 8pm for takeaways but when we got them they great BUT... please take it easy with the salt! While waiting for our food I overheard another table also commenting that the meals were salty so not just me.

I had a t-bone steak. It was bloody brilliant. The staff were very good and we spoke with the landlady afterwards. Very happy.

We stopped here for a Sunday Lunch Carvery as this place has a good reputation. I would say it was one of the best Sunday lunch carveries I have ever eaten. There was a choice of different meats and the vegetables were really fresh and well cooked. I had beef and it was very tender without any fat or gristle. The dessert selection was very good too and overall it was a great lunch experience.

Village pub that does roast lunch to takeaway, and it was spot on

We visited as a group of 8 with a dog and were seated in the area where dogs are permitted (mention when booking) in this cosy bar. The service was just perfect with regular checks on whether we needed anything and to make sure we were happy (thank you to the amazing Peter!). The food did not disappoint either. Several people had burgers off the huge burger menu, a couple had the homemade pizza, and some of us ate off the specials menu that included a delicious chilli with soya mince. All the food was hot and served together despite the group size and it being a Saturday night, and the quality was high. Literally cannot fault this place!

Went with a friend. Had 3 courses. Food was lovely. We got a bottle of wine at the bar before we sat down. We’d literally only just poured a glass and someone came over and asked if we’d decided and then again. The 3rd time they came over we were ready. It felt like we were being rushed. Also when someone came over and asked if our food was ok I asked if we could please have another bottle of wine to which I was told we don’t take drink orders at the table you have to go to the bar. I’ve never been to a pub/restaurant where they don’t don’t drink orders at the table. Very odd. Really let them down, so wasn’t massively impressed with the service but the food was much better than the last time we went.

While staying down the road at Burton Springs we booked a table for Saturday evening and wow what a fantastic meal and staff. Would recommend.

Wanted to share my experience of our meal last night. We have the sea food trio starter to share, which was very tasty. My main course was the Seafood basket. 2 pieces of each cod, prawns, battered squid and salt&pepper squid. It was more like a meal from Icelands, all about the chips and salad and not about the seafood. Little of the seafood. My husband had steak served on a hot volcanic rock. Basically he had to cook it himself while his chips were sitting there waiting for its steak. No salad either. A big gimmick but really don't think it works. It was a good job it was just the two of us at the table with the amount plates he was given. Very underwhelmed as we usually have a really nice meal here. Didn't make a big deal about it at the time as the young staff were busy with a new starter. What a shame.

What a great little pub! there was two young girls working out front however I’ve got to give it to the girl who was on the floor I think her name was Antonio she was accommodating , welcoming and very polite , she was very speedy at was she did we where watching her go back and forth all night it seemed like she didn’t stop , what a great young lady , you guys should be proud of her !

On arriving on the outside seemed to need a little tidying up but go inside it was lovely. We went for the carvery on the Sunday- well along with the great attentive we think it was the best Sunday carvery we’ve ever had and will return for more. The meats were cooked nicely although only had the beef. No over cooked vegetables. When we’d finished the pub was packed, a good sign of good food. Thank you so much for restoring our faith that someone can do well cooked tasty food.

Closed Mon and Tues so no food close by. They also need to sort out the WiFi as there isn't any and phone signal is diabolical. Couldn't talk to wife the whole time I was there. Also more lighting from car park to rooms could do with improvement especially on Monday and Tuesday nights when pub closed.

Once again we had a brilliant carvery. The meat at the Babbling Brook is wonderful, I’ve never had Beef that is so tender and tasty. The veg is all fresh, nothing frozen, and plenty of choice. The staff are all very nice and it’s a very well run operation. I always recommend this pub for a Sunday drive and carvery. A** for sure

Excellent Sunday lunch. We tried it for the first time to celebrate my 70th birthday family meal and it delivered an excellent meal and atmosphere. Today they had beef, gammon anad turkey - all very tasty and tender, and a brilliant array of vegetables and accompaniments. There is also a chalk board of deserts to finish the meal nicely. The service is very orderly and friendly - absolutely delighted with my family experience.

If you go, definitely try the Camembert sharer, you will NOT be disappointed! Also, the sizzler menu (cooked on a hot rock, by you, at your table..) is a fantastic idea and you can cook your steaks exactly how you like them in seconds! Fabulous selection of wines. Have been many times before and rated this as the best carvery ever. Unfortunately today the meal didn’t seem anywhere near the quality we have come to expect from The Babbling brook. The beef usually succulent was disappointing and fatty and vegetables seemed tasteless. No disrespect to current Chefs but the regular Chef was missed Also the staff seem very young and we were reminded that our table would be needed at 1.40 long before the 2 pm sitting I do hope that today was just one of those days as in the past we could not review more highly
