Hellikers Tea Rooms in West Somerset

Visited this charming café and was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional cream teas. The staff was incredibly accommodating and prepared some chips for my son even though they were about to close. I highly recommend this establishment and consider it a highlight of my holiday.

Such a great find! The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and fantastic value. Good quality ingredients, proper sausages and proper bacon 😋

Fabulous café, very accommodating. We are a 3 generation group of 6 adults and two dogs.

Great little cafe in watchet, old fashioned and friendly. No- nonsense menu and very reasonably priced. Had a steak pie and chips for £5.95 and mug of americano for less than £3. Cafe is clean. Would recommend to people and I would certainly go back probably for a cream tea.

I have been eating at Hellikers since my first visit to Watchet 30years ago It's simple charm is matched by good food which is well priced and not prohibitive for family dining .Topped off by super friendly staff

Popped in for an afternoon rest. Had an amazing cream tea. Had my favourite, cheese scone, clotted cream and jam. The food, coffee and service was excellent. I would highly recommend Hellikers, it is well worth a visit. The prices are very reasonable.

Visited on the 22nd March with my partner only because our favourite cafe Chives, was fully booked.Were put into the seating area next to an old freezer. Ordered a ham toastie, a fruit scone and tea for two . The scone was stodgy but tasted OK. But the toastie was inedible. Underneath the toasted side was a white glue-like substance. God knows what they did to it. The cheap ham and the salad bits were all I could eat.One of the teacups was dirty, so we asked for another one. The staff member proceeded to try and wipe the mark off the cup with her fingers, then gave it back to us!!! Avoid this place at all costs.

We came upon this tea room around 3.45 pm. We stood for some time at the counter not knowing if it was "order at the counter " or "table service". The staff (3) stared at us for some time as if we could be aliens until I offered that we would like to order. We were reluctantly given a table. The person who took our order went out of her way not to give us any information up front but waited until we ordered to say that the kitchen closed at 3.30pm, as if we should have known that. It was difficult to drag out of her what was available to eat. On the subject of scones, she persistently corrected us on what fruit the scones contained, almost refused to tell us what "Wattleberry jam" was and then forgot to deliver part of our order all together. The tea was nothing more than hot water with one tea bag between 2 cups. To add further insult, I did notice that a gentleman was delivered a slice of cake at least twice the size of the one I had been given. This particularly rude waitress who we deduced was the owner then butted in quite unnecessarily and very aggressively when we were paying a different member of staff, saying that they were the only shop willing to take £50 notes. A "frosty" reception followed by rude and inefficient delivery of narrow in choice and mediocre in standard food - We most definitely will not be visiting this "weak" Tea Room again.

Dog friendly, great customer service and delicious food! Would highly recommend a stop here!

Popped in mid afternoon New Year’s Eve - ok so they were running low on food but very polite and helpful. The coffee was great as was the different cakes that we had. All in all a pleasant cafe. Toilets are at the end of the garden and had run out of hand towels which was a shame.

Fabulous food couldn't fault anything. Friendly staff. Will definitely eat here again. Dogs are welcome, so a bonus. Reasonably priced.

Bit outdated inside but the staff are incredibly friendly and the food was delicious and cheap! I will return in the future!

Sorry to say that the ice cream was the worst I've ever tasted. Mint Choc chip. No flavour, gloopy. I threw it away. A first for me.

Stopped off on the way home from Butlins, the food at Butlins is awful so we stopped eating there. We went for Breakfast, it gets busy too the small Breakfast and Scrambled egg on toast were excellent and the local Miles Tea is really nice Good value, served with a smile really enjoyed it and not at all expensive

We went to this cafe for breakfast, the girl got the complete order wrong, three totally wrong and completely missed a breakfast off the order. All the safe came out saying you ordered this, your ordered that. One staff said I can only cook what's written down, and that was that.A lovely elderly gentleman came with new breakfast (we had all. Finished at this point) he said I hear you haven't paid for this one.My partner went through the secret garden to use the bathroom an overheard the staff bad mouthing us all.My partner went and paid for the late breakfast and returned to the table. Shortly after we got up to leave and one staff shouted to the other has he paid for that breakfast!? Totally unprofessional and rude.We weren't offered sauces or salt and pepper. The rooms are very crammed. Just wasnt a pleasent experience. We are in Watchet all the time but we will never spend our hard earned money in this place again. Staff couldn't care less. Speaking about customers, not in a good manner either. Just awful. Needs new owners, or maybe some training to the staff already there. It wasn't our fault the waitress was incompetent and ordered food wrong. You'd think a free tea or coffee could have been given for our never ordered late breakfast. Needless say we will use another cafe on our trips to whatchet from now on.

First impression is that it’s split into two, a counter area and a seating area. In the window of the seating area has a number of ‘odd collectibles’ which did not entice me to go in (Note to Owner…. Get rid of these things, makes the place look out dated, and dirty). However, being hungry and them having seats available we went in and ordered breakfast.The staff were pleasant and friendly, and the place is dog friendly (there were already people in there with dogs when we arrived). The coffee really wasn’t great, the worst I’ve had in Watchet so far (Note to owner, change your coffee). The breakfast it self was ok, nothing special, and not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit again.It’s a real shame, being the only place in Watchet offering a fully English breakfast in the morning, they could be so much better…. And please please start with getting rid of all the strange ‘collectibles’

This place could be the place to go in Watchet but is let down by poor coffee and bizarre old things in the window. It’s a real shame as the staff are nice and the location is brilliant.

We ended up at Hellikers due to the cafe we actually wanted to eat at being completely full and with a queue waiting. Being as we were at this point very hungry and just wanted to get some lunch we had a wander down the path and found Hellikers. The outside had very little to offer except on one of the windows there were several ornaments and collectibles... similar to what you may find in your great aunts cluttered home. That word cluttered will return.The cafe is split into two sides... we were seated in the right where the ice cream is stored. The room was quaint and very old fashioned but not in a quirky way... just felt tired.The staff were polite enough and attended to us quite quickly. The waitress came over to our table to take our order, after which we were asked to pay up front for our food, which although not an issue, felt quite unusual given that we'd not placed the order at the till.In hindsight, perhaps this is so people don't refuse to pay some of their bill?Food was OK. Nothing special. The breakfast my parter had was quite oily. My sons milkshake was mostly foam... not sure how that could happen but had very little drink in it!We ordered a pot of tea for 2 and were given 2 sugars each. My partner (who uses 3 per cup whilst I use 2) had to ask for more several times. We felt that they were unhappy parting with the little sachets of sugar and despite being asked for more multiple times, didn't put together perhaps it would be easier to give more than 4 at a time.I unfortunately then needed to use the toilet. Which led out the back of the house and through an odd jungle... to what can only be described as an out house loo. And could only be as clean as what you'd expect of one.Back through the garden I happened to glance towards the food 'preparation area' with it being only a glance, again I can only use the words cluttered and outdated.Despite the friendly enough staff, I would probably have waited in the queue for the cafe up the road!

I want to say the cafe is "cheap and cheerful" but don't want it to come over as a negative! Food is really good value and staff are cheerful and friendly. We normally visit when we are in the area. Don't change!!

I enjoyed my breakfast and the lady serving was nice The toilets are at the end of a rose garden but they were clean and modern.

My wife and I had lunch here yesterday while holidaying in Minehead. We've eaten in the cafe several times in the past. Such a cosy, welcoming place. Really good selection of food. Delicious pasties!

Fantastic breakfast, lovely staff

Dropped in while staying in Burnham on Sea . Nice place to visit is Watchet. Found this nice little cafe and had coffee, scones and cream and jam. Everything perfectly fine and all Covid rules adhered to. Staff friendly and efficient.. Would go again..

Amazing coffees, hot chocolate, and selection of teas and other drinks. Cakes and pastries to die for. The staff are amazing, chatty and very very welcoming. Dog friendly, especially with my 2 Chocolate Labradors and 5 Miniature Schnauzers. The owner was caring towards the dogs fussing them and telling us about her 4 colours of Labradors she had a warm affection for my labs. If you was a cake and coffee, or a drink and pastry call in if you're in the area, you'll be so glad you did.

The bacon & brie sandwich and the sausage sandwich were both excellent.

Had a fabulous breakfast here this morning beautifully cooked and lovely China cups and saucers. Polite obliging staff and the quirky little toilet in the back garden. Thank you very much we will be back

Called in while passing on our first visit to Watchet.We opted for the large breakfast which was the best we have had in a long time. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was lovely to have a decent cup of tea in a China cup. We will definately be back. Thank you all very much

Really impressed with how friendly the lady serving here was when we turned up for a late lunch. Every breakfast we ordered had a tweak and she was really accommodating. It was our first time eating out since lockdown eased. The staff were masked and the seating well spaced out. Plenty of wiping down and sanitizer. Recommend a visit. Food standard ,fresh and hot.

Lovely chicken tikka and rice, with orange/choc cake to follow and one of the best flat whites I've had in ages! Superb value and service in a traditional cafe.

Girls are polite. Had on a few occasions a small breakfast about £6.00 altogether with coffee including toast it was 5 or 6 items. Tasty and not greasy either.

Very clean Caffe friendly staff lovely cream tea

We chose this one because the one down the road didn’t do an all day breakfast. The service was friendly and the food tasty. Very obliging no frills unless you call a square plate a drill (I don’t) .. it tastes just as good on a round plate.

There are three cafe's within a stones throw. Boy did I pick the wrong one. Having stayed in Watchet for the weekend I then tried the others and they were so much better. It is the cheapest out of the three and it's easy to see why. Give this cafe a miss.

Lovely coffee - great value too

We visit here everytime we are in the Watchet area. 5 of us this time, each had a different meal and each meal was cooke really well, was satisfying and cheap. The iced coffee was good too providing that extra boost and a cooling satisfaction from the warm weather. Staff are friendly and also welcome dogs in too

Good portions, good prices and friendly service.

Not what we were expecting, it is a bit amaturish in less than wonderful way. Tea and cake , you would think we could hardly go wrong with... but the mug of tea have so much milk put in it, by the young assistant that it would qualify as a milkshake; cake dry and uninspiring. Sad buts how it was - we could n't point out the problem as there was a long queue, which seemed never to move.Disappointing.

This is a lovely little cafe, just around the corner from where we live, so we're very lucky. We've had takeaway food from here which we ate in the pub across the road, but today we needed to get out of the house and decided to eat in the cafe. The owners were brilliant as they were in fact closing when we arrived, but they very kindly stayed open to serve us. Excellent scoff.

Great little cafe in the heart of Watchet, fantastic breakfast, a stone's throw from the lovely little harbour, well worth a visit.

We were a bit bothered about going here, when the place a few doors down was closesd as we had read reviews on TA about poor service and grumpy staff! But it was completely the opposite! We were given a really warm greeting by staff and locals alike. The food was wonderful, fresh hot and good quality - best sausages so far this week.....

Nice lunch with friendly staff. We were there attending the Forties weekend on the railway and were pleased to be able to get a late lunch here. Good value for money.

Just had scones and cream tea coffee sausage and bacon sandwich very well priced and excellent service scones were warm as through just freshly baked would recommend this place if you fancy a quiet time with a drop of tea and scones

Tea was hot and delivered after a brief wait, Scones with cream & jam was a good sized portion, not the cheapest place for 3 people but you are in the centre of Watchet where there are lots of tourists.

Walked in said “hi” to the young girl and older man at the till........ignored. Two tables were seated and eating so we looked around to see if we had walked past a closed sign we hadn’t seen- nope.

Thought l would drop in for as l was in watchet. There was only 2 people in front. I ordered a trad breakfast, l had a coke with it. As did the other couple, they were asked by the young girl if they wanted glasses. My drink was just put on the table. It didn’t take long for the meal to come out and was well presented, again the young didn’t ask if l wanted any sauces. Luckily the older server asked me. It was a good breakfast and well worth the money. In leaving l said thank you to the young lady and got a grunt hence the score of 4

Called in after lunch had officially finished but they still kindly cooked me a portion of chips to take away. They were the best chips I have tasted in a long time - triple cooked possibly? Crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle - delicious. I will be calling in again!

Terrible place. After a long journey from Birmingham on our way to Lynmouth we stopped here for some breakfast. We chose this place because of the other reviews that seemed good. First the tables were small and cramped, the lad that served us had finger nails like he'd been digging dirt with them all day. The food was rubbish. Sausages were hard as if they were the previous days. I asked for tomatoes and got fresh tomatoes, ok some people might like fresh tomatoes but I wanted tin, the tea had a funny taste to it. We had to ask for Brown sauce and utensils. There were no serviettes anywhere to be seen. All in all not a nice place, I recommend you try another cafe/tea room along the street.

Poor scone, requested and pointed to fruit scone but given a very plain scone with no fruit.

Not sure what to say, the food was good and okay, not a game changer but fine. The experience though is often first hand and from the service you receive. I got a rather delayed response and then bemuse look from who turned out to be the owner, who spent time telling me he had taken his pills for the day......yet he needed to keep a close eye on things. Presumably the younger staff working so tirelessly under his regime. He went further to complain how his wife said its time he tired. Might be an idea if you want to get of the "pills".

Food amazing . We had homemade soup and fried breakfast. Best food we ever had. Highly recommend.

First Class Dog Friendly place with wonderful attentive staff and the food is scrumptious.
