Super food (at good prices and good portion size), friendly service, top ambience. Beer selection is good, with some local ones! The ‘landlord’ is a very friendly chap too and makes time for everyone!

Went twice on holiday both times made to feel really welcome, gorgeous food, reasonably priced and enjoyed a cider.

Chanced upon this great pub on a day out on the steam train. Despite being a busy Sunday lunchtime we were able to get a table. We both opted for the pork roast which was a generous portion and very tasty. Good selection of veg and no issue having gravy on the side. The only disappointment was the parsnips were a little burnt and if I was really picky the green veg was overcooked for my liking but still edible and we cleaned our plates!! All the staff we encountered were friendly and nothing was too much of an effort. The landlord, Jason, is " right on the money" and clearly has a good grip on his business and he certainly makes everyone, whether local or visitor, feel welcome. As we saw, this pub gets really busy so advisable to book if you are planning on eating there. Overall a good experience and reasonably priced too.

So glad we found this pub during our week long stay in lovely Watchet. We ate here 3 times and all 3 were excellent food, service and value for money. The staff are lovely. Jason is welcoming and friendly. Wish we had a local like this where we lived. We will return very soon.

From walking into the pub, we had a lovely welcome from the gentleman behind the bar. He gave us options for seating and we sat in the snug. Wide selection of food on the menu and also on the specials boards, price range was reasonable. The food was delivered quite quickly, to which there was a good portion of food and the best we've tasted while being om holiday. Defiantly would recommend the star Inn to anyone.

After reading fab google reviews, I was really looking forward to our meal. We had just arrived on a break nearby, Two adults and three grandchildren, After 45 minutes and with the table behind us already served food we asked where our meals were. (they came in after us). After a few minutes the meals were hurriedly brought out. Pure white undercooked chips. The starters should have been cheddar ciabatta and garlic ciabatta. Both came out and had clearly only seen an oven for less than a minute. The cheese was not melted at all and both were baguettes , not ciabatta. They forgot the onion rings and rushed them out. The steak was cooked as ordered but cheap and fatty .my cod was very small with soft flabby batter. Both burgers were cooked properly however, With one drinks and these meals it was £96 odd. When asked how the meal was, I said that this will be the first t8me in my life that I have not left a tip, listing all that was wrong about it. The tiny slip of a barmaid was lovely and apologetic but that was a lot of money for fast food cooked by someone who did not have a clue. The worst meal I have ever had.

Great family dinner. Breaded mushrooms slightly over cooked. Calamari cooked to perfection.

The pub was busy, we queued, we even told the barman to serve singletons first. We were then passed by , by another TWO customers. Sadly not the reception we have received on our last visits. Is now on our not on your nelly list sadly

Good food, great atmosphere. Was welcomed like we were in there every week. They had some sort of competition going on with a visiting team from elsewhere, but food and service were still fabulous. The Calamari was exceptionally good, not your usual rubbery rings, but all sorts of shapes and sizes cooked very well. The landlord and waitress were both friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back. After dinner, literally cross the road to the car park and a short walk along the harbour wall to allow your dinner to go down.

What a fabulous welcome to this gorgeous little pub ! Front of house guy was amazing, welcoming and friendly . Very busy for a Thursday early evening ! We had bbq sticky wings to start followed by surf and turf which was cooked to perfection we asked for medium rare steak and that’s just what we got !!!! Finished off by a delicious biscoff sundae ! The young lady who served us was delightful attentive and polite ! Definitely worth a visit if you are in this quaint harbour village !

What great service and wonderful food and the beer brewed on the premises was excellent. The bar manager Jason would be an asset to any pub / restaurant. We had a wonderful Sunday roast that was very good value. I would recommend booking as it does get busy. Looking forward to going back

Lovely little pub popped into here on our hoilday and the man behind the bar was lovely and so friendly made me feel really welcome. We sat out the front was quite and peaceful and a little river leading out to the sea next to it. Highly recommend

The bar staff were so nice and helpful you could tell they were local. Nothing was to much bother. The food was great go for the battered brie, its big.

We came across this place by accident, simply looking for somewhere to eat that also accepted dogs. The meals were stunning, I haven't enjoyed a meal so much for years. We were served by a lovely young lady called Courtney, who was charming and super helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Stuck for somewhere to eat 2 nights later, having already booked for the night after, we decided to eat there again. Same delicious choice of food, we had different meals, again absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to eat or simply for a few drinks. We'll be back! 😋

Went on the first day of our holiday in watchet, Jason was very welcoming and although we didn’t book found us a table as tables get filled quickly. We then booked each night of our holiday . Food was great and a great service from all members of the team We would definitely recommend this pub to eat and drink. You all do a great job .

Visited twice this weekend busy both times and yet the service was still incredible. Both the barmaid and server were top notch mad can honestly give no faults. Everything from wait times to availability are communicated clearly and always asked how everything is.

We call the star in last minute for sit down meal as we were staying a site close by. When calling gentleman was very friendly on the phone and said he could squeeze of table of 7 in.. we were very grateful as not many places we rang were serving food or had no space. When we arrive we had a lovely warm welcome. Nice choice of food to suit all. We had a wait of about 40 minutes for food but was made aware of this from the start. We had all our starters and mains come out all together. Starters were slightly over done. But didn't feel that this was something to complain about as other parts of the meal was beautiful steaks were cooked beautiful, pepper corn sauce was lovely and portions were great. We're checked on regularly over all a lovely meal out. Great choice on draft drinks. For 3 starters 1 side 2 sauces, 6 mains and 7 drinks for £140 would defo say it was good value. Thank you again for fitting us in. 👍

Desperate for a decent meal after a 5 hour journey to the holiday cottage we'd rented, we went to the Star after looking at reviews. The reviews didn't lie -- excellent sirloin steak, chips, onion rings, pepper sauce etc etc (both of us had same) ---- my advice would be to phone & book - we were very lucky, we got the last 2 seat table in the early evening ! Great staff & friendly atmosphere. Thanks Jake - you saved us --- (Jake's a bit of a "force of nature" by the way - in a good sense) !

Booking is a must as it fills up quickly. The proprietor was really welcoming and friendly. The food was really delicious. There were no vegan puddings on the menu, but the chef found a very delicious blood orange sorbet in the freezer. It was so tasty.

Wandered into The Star New Years Eve lunchtime. Lovely welcome, Pretzels and Mince Pies on the bar. We were going to have a quick pint and move on but got drawn in by the plates of food being served and despite a few items not being available due to it being bank holiday there was still plenty of choice. We went for Ribeye and Exmoor Burger. Both freshly cooked and very tasty. Excellent service. We’ll be back.

Everything about this place was amazing. Kind and chatty barkeep, nice food, and good beer. All at a fair price. Would recommend.

Visited while on holiday in Watchet. Cosy welcoming pub, very friendly barmaid. We both had staters Whitebait and garlic mushrooms, both of which were very tasty and large portions. For mains we had Mixed grill and chicken burger, again huge portions, my mixed grill was superb. Would definitely recommend this pub

We were a group of 8 friends visiting Watchet for the first time and booked a table at late notice. Service and quality of food was first class and reasonably priced too. Great little pub!

Went for a meal on the last night of our short break in Watchet. Nice warm cosy atmosphere in the pub, friendly and helpful staff, good range of drinks. We chose the seafood sharing platter from the starter menu which was delicious and plenty for the two of us. Would definitely return when we are next in the area.

Found myself in Watchet almost by accident after work was cancelled due to foul weather. Lovely spot and all of the pubs looked good but I'm glad I picked the Star. Warm and welcoming and I had a delicious, large and very reasonably priced gammon. Very busy for a Monday lunch and everyone's food looked great and they all seemed delighted. As an ex-landlord, I'm notoriously difficult to please and rarely leave reviews but this was so good that I started looking at house prices in the area! A gem, congrats to all involved.

Walked from Washford to Watchet and stopped for lunch at The Star. Friendly service in this quaint pub which does great food. I had the burger and my wife had crab cakes with a portion of fries. All cooked fresh. Dog friendly.

I'm sorry to say that our experience was poor, over priced cash&carry White Bait, the seafood platter Prawns & Squid were soft & mushy, I suspect reheated whilst still frozen. On top of that there were some locals at the bar using foul language and no attempt was made by the landlord was made to ask them to keep it down. I'm a local person and have been for many years. The Star is one establishment will not be returning to...ever

Popped in for lunch mid week but kitchen was closed but the staff made us feel very welcome and we liked the ambiance of the pub so we decided to book Sunday lunch. On the menu it says beef served pink but if you ask they will cook it to your preference ie if like me very well cooked so don’t let the menu put you off. Lunch was beautiful meat lovely and soft especially liked the Thatchers cider stuffing.

Lovely place with plenty of room, nicely decorated and tasty food at reasonable prices with good service. Update 23.09.2023 Revisited the star inn and hasn't changed its excellent food choice and quality. Good service and nice atmosphere early evening with lots of dogs being well behaved and the owners too, well mostly ! Highly recommended but do book before because it fills up quickly.

Monday 11th sept stopped off at Watchet for lunch, the place was lovely and clean, food presented well, they had trouble with a fryer, so fish was oven cooked, still delicious and healthier without batter, so no complaints. Enjoyed with a great glass of Pinot. Staff very pleasant. Would defo visit again when in the area.

Disappointing considering the reviews. Limited menu so we opted for fish and chips which was poor. Nice clean pub and friendly staff but will not be returning.

When we initially saw it was 'Nutloaf' as the vegetarian Sunday lunch option our hearts sank. However, what a lovely Sunday lunch. Excellent meal, so tasty, lovely roasties and a selection of mixed vegetables. Some of our party actually managed a dessert of Sticky Toffee Pudding and one of Chocolate Sponge Pudding both of which came with custard. Sufficient to say stomachs were well lined and everyone well fed. Mango Cider was also quaffed and comes highly recommended. If we were in Watchet for another week we would revisit this establishment. ADVISABLE -book an early sitting to get your choice of meat options as they had all gone by the second sitting. Great waitress/bar person who worked really hard serving and cleaning tables Bonus for my husband who discovered that they have a petanque piste and now happy as larry as he plans to while away some hours with his boule.

I had homemade steak and ale pie, chips and peas... absolutely delicious. The pie filling was very very good, huge pieces of meat, huge portion size. My partner had chicken tikka and rice, he couldn't eat it all as the portion size was big! We've booked a table for later in the week, we're both going to have the stak and ale pie... 😋😋😋

We were on Hoilday in Watchet for the week with friends. We drank in The Star on 4 occasions & ate on 3. Jason is a great host, funny & organised. The food & drink is fantastic. We will be back next year. Thank you. 👍

Booked several weeks ago for 7 people to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived at 7.00pm we were told by a unwelcoming bar member we are busy so hope you've booked. We sat down at our table and ordered starters and main. Starters arrived fairly quickly but waited over an hour for mains. When we went to bar to ask how much longer as we've been waiting an hour we were told "it's not been that long and I am not going to argue" 4 other people came in after us and they had their meal well before us. The waitress was miserable and almost threw the food down when it did eventually arrive. Food was ok although several things couldn't have as only one fryer working. I spent a lot of money but certainly not satisfied with pub.

I heard so many people recommending it, it had to be visited. The place doesn't have too many tables inside, but you can have at least up to 12 people on one table. Make sure you book in advance otherwise you could be looking at an 8 o clock sitting. The amount of food available is immense, with some excellent stock local product. I tried the exmoor sirloin, which comes with homemade slaw, chips and peas and I wasn't disappointed. If I could've fitted any more food in, I would've had dessert, but alas I can't eat like I used to. Friendly staff, excellent food, a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it.

Had a gig so options were limited but we were pointed towards the Star Inn by locals. Lovely looking pub that was already full at 6pm ( always a good start in my eyes ) Landlord ( big happy character who despite being very busy was happy to welcome you with a big smile ) directed us to beer garden where despite inside being fully booked he said we could eat. Big garden ideal for dogs. Large enough menu and specials board and quickly ordered, got our drinks and sat enjoying the evening pass by. Starters arrived quickly considering the amount of people there so a great start but that’s where it ends. My BBQ chicken wings were merely cheap frozen offerings , very small wings with a sickly bbq dip . Partners Garlic breaded mushrooms were ok at best . Only around a 20-30 min wait for mains again great service considering the amount of food coming out. Surf and turf for me with p corn sauce, The steak although cooked as I requested tasted fairly bland , the 3 prawns thrown on top were horrendous, nothing but mushy inside with a horrid chargrilled taste , the chips tasted as though the oil in the fryer needed a change and the p corn sauce was so watery if basically refused to stick to anything I tried . Apart from the steak that the dog finished off and a few chips and the smallest mouthful of mushy prawn the only saving grace were the onion rings as a side that were to be fair absolutely delicious, could they of come from the same fryer as the chips ? Braised beef, new pots and veg for my partner was again ok at best but the beef was again very mushy with no structure and either a the cheapest of cuts or from a bag. Not sure but not good , again the dog helped finish it off. The young waitress was amazing with her service and was genuinely disappointed to realise that we hadn’t enjoyed it , offering to sort any problems out but I declined as they were still so busy I really didn’t have the time or inclination to bother so had decided to go and leave them to it. Just to make it clear, both Landlord and waitress were 1st class , sadly the food was far far from that. We live around 5 miles away and enjoy trying new places, sadly we won’t return here.

One of the best pubs I have been to. The food was amazing, but the service was out of this world. Every member of staff was so so friendly and happy to go above and beyond at any request. We visited multiple times because of this great atmosphere and food the staff created. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be visiting again. Dined here with my teenage son when we stopped off in Watchet during a trip on the West Somerset Railway. Young lady behind the bar was welcoming and efficient and the pub itself felt cosy. My son had burger and I had steak and Guinness pie, both of which were very tasty and nicely prepared. A good selection of local ales were available also, although I couldn't try too many of them unfortunately. Worth a visit, very nice.

This is a really nice pub, slightly tucked away. It was quite busy when we went but the young woman in charge could not have been more patient with our requests for variations to the menu despite being extremely busy. Thanks also to the chef who took the special requests with good grace. The food (fish without batter for me) was delicious and clearly freshly cooked. We joined in conversation with two other couples who both agreed that the food was excellent.

Had a lovely meal here this evening with our family, would recommend to anyone as it was faultless.

Came across this fabulous dog friendly pub. The bar man is really friendly and gave our dogs treats, so they loved him straight away. The food was lovely, far better than I expected. Would highly recommend this place, its a little gem!

Just had the most incredible meal in this little gem. From start to finish the visit was welcoming and friendly while still maintaining a professional experience. We were a table of 4 with dogs (well behaved) all the meals were equally delicious served hot and not a long delay.
