The London Inn in West Somerset

We were looking for somewhere to eat lunch, came across the London Inn and were not disappointed. We had the steak pie with puff pastry lid and we were very satisfied with it. There was lots of filling and the chips and peas made it a memorable meal. Would definitely recommend it.

Stopped in on Saturday for a quick drink and booked a Sunday dinner. Came back today, and my wife enjoyed a prawn cocktail starter where I tried the roast duck bon bons. We both had roast beef for our main meal. Very friendly welcoming staff and reasonably priced will calk again when next in area

Would've tried here, but not dog friendly so couldn't. This seems unusual for 2024 nitro have at least a small area where dog owners can visit

Was staying on the area and searched TA for good recommendations for Sunday lunch. Recommendations were spot on. Lovely Sunday roast, not over priced, fresh and quick service. Lovely views too oh and an even nicer glass of wine 🍷

The staff was very rude and said they had no time to boil water for tea. Prices are pretty high. The food was not very bad, I guess

Hospitality and service above and beyond, Roast dinner fabulous, roasties to die for, meat cooked beautifully, and the veg actually looked like veg, not pre prepped and soggy. Well done will be back !!

We very much enjoyed the food at The London. Fish and chips was the best I'd had in a long time. My friend had the lasagne, which was also very tasty and the accompanying salad was fresh. We did not have to wait long for the food and enjoyed the view over the sea from the upstairs restaurant. Thank you.

Our lunch was perfect. Hot, tasty and served promptly. Would recommend. Upstairs restaurant looks out over the sea.

AMAZING!! Couldn't ask for better hospitality or food. We were so glad to find this hidden gem, so much so that we returned 3 evenings in a row so that we could have their fantastic food again and again! We will also definitely return in the future. Sue, Alex and a lovely lady serving behind the bar make this a special place alongside the seaviews which make it so relaxing. The food here really sets a high standard at reasonable prices and we cannot recommend it enough. Thank you London Inn

Had an amazing adhoc meal in the London, we would always through choice choose the London for a roast dinner as everything is fresh but on this occasion we went for the sea food platter and the burger and I have to say much like the roast we were very pleased and satisfied infact the only negative if it can be is the portions are huge …. What a dive!!! Hideous customer service, dirty, miserable and empty....that speaks volumes. Rude staff and not worth a visit. Disgusting pub. Must be the joke of the town!! If you eat or drink anything in here you will fall ill....very ill!!!

Great impromptu stop off for Sunday lunch. Staff were friendly and helpful. Service was quick and portions were very generous… Sunday roast was particularly good with loads of roast potatoes, veg, stuffing and a big Yorkshire pudding! Nice view over the water from the restaurant and excellent value. Thanks!

A pub situated in the heart of the mariner town, Watchet. Which offers home cooked tasty meals. Had a roast dinner in December, and it was all spot on. Meat cooked well and tender (lamb) roasties delicious and fresh vegetables all delicious. Thank- you to Sue and her team.

Dreadful customer service by front of house staff, they misheard our order and refused to accept they had made a mistake which resulted in 2 vegans being given meat burgers, no chance of a replacement or refund 🤬

We ordered vegan burgers and were given meat ones, the front of house staff gave appalling customer service and refused to accept they may have misheard, they insisted my husband, who has been vegetarian and vegan for over 30 years, specifically asked for, and pointed to on the menu, beef burgers. No chance of a replacement or refund so we paid £24 for two small plates of chips and side salad. The chips were well cooked and delicious so the chef was doing a great job. The customer service was utterly awful and the staff member was completely adamant it was our mistake. We will never go there again! If it was possible to leave a no star review we would be doing that, the one star is for the chef!

Popped in for drinks whilst on a long weekend break at the Haven site. A real Somerset authentic pub. We were given a warm welcome. Grandchildren were made welcome also. Drinks were reasonably priced.

This is one I must visit to eat next time here without the dog as not dog friendly. Really great views from the upper level tables which I imagine you need to book before well before you go. We only had a drink there in the afternoon so difficult to comment on anything other than it's well worth a visit if you're visiting or not. Nice clean toilets too.

Came for Sunday roast on a very rainy day.. Landlady greeted us well..and found us suitable seating..(as with my lung condition I could use stairs and come down everything I need facilties. )... So she found us table in bar downstairs.. which we appreciated. Sunday roast was nice.. Roasters and Yorkshire pudding was scrummy...meats seem pre sliced rather than freshly calved but it tasted nice. Good selection of drinks. Would return for food.

I've spent many hours drinking and eating here. The food is prepared fresh daily and my personal opinion is excellent. Sorry no animals inside allowed.

We'd been to the London Inn on previous occasions and were sorry to hear that Ensor had left for pastures new, but Michelle, the jolly baristress, was just as charming and the same chef Alex did a wonderful meal for us i.e. Scampi, chips, peas and salad - (I could tell Alex was still the chef because the chips were so special, crispy outside, fluffy inside - definitely Alex's chips!). This time, we decided to go upstairs to the Sea View Restaurant which is still part of the London Inn, same staff etc. I was stunned and moved on reaching the top of the stairs and seeing Sea View Restaurant for the first time in 21 years when I last came there with my dear friend who sadly died about ten years ago. The whole ambience is marvellous, atmospheric with stunning views of the harbour and lighthouse, wonderful 3D paintings on the walls, lovely sturdy farmhouse furniture and even a roof terrace! Highly recommended!

Fresh-tasting fish - great whitebait. Big sea and harbour view from upstairs dining room. Better than average value. It is a locals place and not overly chic-looking but don’t be put off. Perfectly good and friendly service.

Wouldn’t recommend eating here especially if you are not a local. Due to not being from the area, was made to feel unwelcome from the start. You may aswell go into the kitchen and cook your own meal because they’re not willing to wait on people or at least the bar lady isn’t. However, the young boy who brought our meals was lovely and provided us with cutlery and sauces after realising we wasn’t given any and raised it with the bar lady to which the bar lady said “I told them to help themselves, it’s not my fault they didn’t bother!” We were never actually told to help ourselves to anything. For £32 for a bit of fish and chips, I don’t think we were asking for a lot to be given a knife and fork. Very overpriced for what it was, also no atmosphere in the place and we couldn’t wait to leave. Such a shame as travelled 2 hours to Watchet which appears to be a lovely place but this place just lets it all down unfortunately.

Lovely friendly pub, great food and had colouring pens and books for kids, brilliant! Saw another review complaining about treatment of kids, must be another place.

Terrible experience. Traveled all the way from south wales for my 2 year old sons first little holiday of the year. Atmosphere was terrible. We were greeted by numerous unfriendly locals who made us unwelcome as we “didn’t live in the town”. Sat down to order food my two year old son sat quietly playing with his animals and got told to “shut up” for playing with his animals on the table. And that it was a pub for “adult company” even though the board outside says “children welcome”. Very upsetting as was totally uncalled for and he was actually very well behaved for a two year old didnt even speak while we was there. Unless you just want to sit on your own and have a quiet pint with zero atmosphere and feel completely unwelcome and then get rude remarks for making any little noise would definitely not recommend going here.

Food was was average at best. Restaurant is basic with no atmosphere. Good sea view from 2 tables if you manage to get one. Probably a nice place for a pint but would not eat there again.

Very accommodating. Fitted us in 11 people at 1:15 pm on a Sunday afternoon, although a little rushed, it was explained to us when we first arrived that there was other people booked in at 2 pm. Food was delicious. Would recommend.

Waitress very rude, made us hurry to choose food. And made very rude comment about disabled people which I was supporting. I won’t come back at all.

A proper, traditional pub with home-cooked food. I'm not a veggie, but I decided on the vegetarian lasagne. It was the best one I've ever had. Don't go expecting a gastropub though!

A visit to Watchet came recommended by a friend who lives nearby and we decided on a nice, hot pub lunch on account of the typically wet British summer weather. Myself, husband and our 4 y/o son popped in and asked the female barstaff if they were serving food and she answered, with an eye roll so big, she nearly saw the back of her own head..."well, yes" and scowled at our son (who was just standing next to us, taking in the "atmosphere"). Damp and peckish, we had 3 dirty menus thrown at us and we made our way towards the sea view seating area and asked if there was a table available. Again, the cantankerous, incredibly prickly, Mrs Lovett looking character looked at us and barked "yes BUT you can only have table 7". Not a problem for us...we assumed the seating area would be booked up with reservations...you could have heard a pin drop on that scabby carpet, not a soul to be seen in the "restaurant". I opted out of food but our son was hungry, we were chilled from the rain and decided that despite the welcome from old frosty pants, here was better than nowhere. We ordered a children's sausage chips and beans, tea, coffee and juice and sat in almost silence waiting for the Lovecraftian looking female from behind the bar to come gliding in like a wraith, armed with sausage and beans ready to lob at our unusually quiet 4y/o...we were pleasantly surprised when a younger, jolly, approachable server came bouncing through and asked us why on earth we were sat in the corner all alone in a totally empty restaurant... We explained that Voldemort behind the bar told us under no circumstances were we to use any table other than number 7...we were too scared to sit anywhere else *nervous laughter* The server said cheerily "yeah...I don't know why she keeps doing that, reserving tables just randomly without a booking, sit where you want guys" he then left us to it and we felt slightly more relaxed knowing it wasn't just us at the brunt of a bad day/bad attitude. We moved to the window with a lovely view and enjoyed a bog standard brew but the sausage and beans apparently went down a treat, hot drinks were hot, cold drinks were cold, hot food was hot. No complaints about the quality of the meals and drinks. The friendly server popped in to ask if we were ok, which we were. Happy days. If you want a perfectly mediocre sausage and chips and a mental throwback to remembering exactly how The Demon Headmaster made you feel on CBBC when you were a kid then this is the place for you. We cleared our table and thanked both of the staff we'd encountered and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Nice bright upstairs dining room with a sea view. We really enjoyed our sea bass fillets and fish cakes (two types: smoked haddock and sea bass with ginger).

We were in Watchet again, so chose The London Inn for our lunch as we'd had such a great time there in December. My companion had scampi & chips, and I had chicken curry. The chef, Alex, stayed on past his 2 o'clock finishing time especially to cook our meals - which we thought was really good. The barista, Ensor, was so thoughtful and jolly, made us laugh! In fact everything about the London Inn is jolly and charming. Next time, we intend to go through to the Seaview Restaurant which is part of the building. I think I once went there with a dear (now departed) friend many moons ago - must go and see if I remember it! But to sum up - we absolutely love The London Inn, everything about it, the staff, the food, the ambience. Highly recommended!

Fabulous Harbour/Seaview Restaurant and a lovely fresh cooked meal. The staff are fab and friendly.

Had a nice meal in the London Inn Watchet was not our first choice but turned out to be a good choice. The meals were very nice and good value, it was good to have the meal served all on the plate and not in silly separate dishes and the gravy for the pie meal was a good consistently not the normal waterery stuff you are normally given. A nice cheap meal

We had a nice reasonably priced meal when we called into this pub and with a pint or two of Jail Ale we stayed a bit longer than planned. It was definitely a place to spend a relaxing afternoon.

Good priced food basic but good friendly atmosphere

Visited the London Inn for dinner last night. Plenty of choice including various vegetarian/vegan options. Veg burger and chips was really nice. Good service too. We'd go there again. It's a bit old fashioned I suppose but nothing not to like.

Ordered chicken and a Burger and both felt microwaved it was dripping water like it has been cooked and freezed to be microwaved later on when ordered. Not worth the money at all. Even the Coke was from this sorry ass machine like the one...

Walked in got told there was a 40 minute wait for food so we agreed to wait after queuing for 20 minutes we wanted to order some drinks after she told us there’s a 40 minute wait for food she totally ignored us and went on to serve her local customers if you want a friendly old English pub this isn’t the one for you :) UPDATE 40 mins into waiting had to order 2 drinks rounds now the bar lady with disgraceful customer service skills who is just pure arrogant not nice what so ever I suffer from severe mental health issues so the way this lady made me feel isn’t nice at all :) hope everyone else who visits enjoys there time although we definitely did not also very cold so if you have heart conditions do not attend it’s now 1.15 hours later still no food so disappointing. Now people who came in 30 Mins after us have had there food before us not happy what so ever wish I brought extra layers too colder inside than outside

Great little pub. Feels like a "locals" pub. Staff are friendly, reasonable selection of beers and spirits. The food we had was keenly priced, well cooked and presented.

Popped into Watchet the evening before the festival and this was the first pub we could just walk in and get served. Lovely friendly goth guy serving. We ordered and were served very goòd standard pub grub.

Good food, reasonably priced. The lime and ginger fish cakes were excellent and the service was good. Exmoor Ale was on draught when we visited.

Didn't stay in accommodation but certainly stayed the evening and enjoyed the live singing by Chris. Great company very welcoming atmosphere lovely food served upstairs great drinks menu well worth popping your head in when you are in this beautiful part of the country.

We came in as a party of 15, for a birthday party. Turned up without booking at 5 30pm and the lady found space for us, even though they don't actually serve food until 6pm. Stunning food, no clean plates at all. Large, homely meals....

What a super place really glad we walked in. Nice food, served hot and tasting fresh, served promptly. The staff are really friendly and accommodating. Sea view restaurant upstairs has a great view and serves the same menu as the pub downstairs. Only reason for 4 stars is that the restaurant was cold. Highly recommend, we have children with us and they enjoyed it too

Can recommend. Spur of the moment visit. We are local. Great steak and Guinness pie. Hot and tasty. Had ice cream/homemade crumble & custard. Really good! We sat in tha bar but could have gone to the upper floor Seaview restaurant which had great views...

Visited during our stay in Watchet. Had fish and chips, which was nice, service was pleasant. Reasonable price although puddings expensive as seems to be the case wherever you go these days. Room upstairs looks out over the harbour so nice on a good day...

What can I say…. Excellent food! Excellent service! We popped in last minute for a Sunday lunch and were welcomed with friendly staff that couldn’t do enough for us. Food was made with fresh ingredients and came promptly. (piping hot!) I would definitely recommend this...

Awful sunday roast. Meat was fatty and chewy. Not enough gravy. Whole meal was bland and tasteless.

Service and food was great. Reasonable prices too. Would definitely go back. The view from upstairs is fab!

We dined upstairs which was both light airy and with big bay windows with great views of the sea. The food was generous and tasty. Would recommend for anyone visiting Watchet.

We came along two different nights for evening drinks, the bar man was very friendly and we found plenty of seating at tables. This is a very traditional setting, serving ales, beers and gins etc... with that in mind, it is not at all modern,...

A beautiful lamb roast, was so delicious and I enjoyed every bit of it, so full up now, really recommend the lamb, you will enjoy it.

Food is your average pub grub at a good price. Make sure you request a table in the window as there are only 2 that get the sea view.

This restaurant has 2 tables with sea views in their sea view restaurant. They would prefer to tell you that these 2 tables are reserved than have their customers enjoy the view as they are waiting for tables of 4 or 5 to turn up....

First Sunday roast for a very long time, had roast beef with all the trimmings and it was fantastic, well cooked and so tasty, I live in Watchet so these are my locals and I would recommend a Sunday roast here, you will enjoy it.

Food was quick and excellent and very good value for the money with large portions, the staff behind the bar were friendly and helpful, the inside look very old fashion but a great evening. A gem if your looking for good honest food.

Friendly staff and a good pint of Staropramen. Both very welcome on a warm day.

I had relations visiting from the north and decided to try the London inn for a meal. So we booked it for six people for 19.45. We arrived promptly and were shown to a table, where we were left sitting waiting for at least 20 minutes, even though there was no one else in there. When a lady did arrive she instantly told us we could not stay as we had a dog. Now Watchet is the most dog friendly town in the land , but okay we understand that they did not allow them. But it was more the very unfriendly attitude of the lady in question as she ushered us out of their establishment. I actually live in Watchet and was very upset with this whole episode. I certainly will not be going back to the London inn for anything, dog or no dog.

This is a great pub, good food and great value for money. The Fish & Chips are huge . . . .. The beer was excellent and the location could not have been better. make sure you pop in.

In the heart of Watchet, The London Inn serves really good food at a good price. You can eat either in the bar area or a full restaurant service is available upstairs.

The pub itself was a bit dated. Go upstairs to the restaurant. We had a lovely sea view from the table. The food was ok, home made burger was nice. It was all ok but nothing to wow just reasonable pub grub. At the moment a lack of choice of eateries in watchet meant we had to go here but I would hope once things return to normal other places will open up and be better choices

The bar staff are really friendly but sadly the pub is grimy, dingy and lacking in atmosphere. We made the mistake of eating here and the food was equally lacking. It was expensive for stuff that was clearly straight out of catering packs and not home made. Time for a facelift and a new menu.

My family dropped in for dinner and drinks while on holiday in Watchet. There was absolutely nothing wrong with our meals or drinks, but this pub lacked atmosphere and the dining room upstairs was drab and lacked character. A shame, because the views from the dining room were pretty good.

Honestly cannot fault this place. The food is amazing. Lovely drink. Very family orientated. Only let down is that it isn't massively disabled friendly other then this it's perfect. Try the pie. AMAZING
