Had a fabulous delicious lunch at this hotel/pub today. Food was piping hot. I had Lasagne and the chef did my husband a steak which wasn’t even on the menu. It was perfectly cooked, rare, just how he likes it. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

The owners and their son made us feel so welcome here at the Lion; they let us store our bicycles inside in a secure area and let us know about the curry dinner ( Wednesday night). Breakfast was ok - better to probably order the full English which we didn’t. Unlike other hotels we’ve visited there wasn’t any fruit, yogurt or cereal to accompany the hot component. Great location in a very nice village. The only drawback was the bed - could have been more comfortable.

A convenient location to stopover on our LEJOG cycling tour, including secure bike storage. Some parts of the room are tired and could so with a refurbished, but it was very clean and comfortable and we can appreciate what it would take to refurb a place of this size and age. Wonderful food - we ate in the hotel restaurant for our evening meal and breakfast, both were delicious and to a high standard. Staff also very friendly and helpful. We'd recommend

Stayed at the hotel and ate in the restaurant both nights. Pizza night on Monday was incredible value for money, the best pizza I've eaten out in years. Turns out everything is home made and freshly prepared including the bases. Had the bruschetta as a starter too which was delicious. Seemed popular with lots of locals doing takeout on the pizzas too. Curry night on Tuesday was more of the same, great fresh home prepared curries, poppadoms, naan breads and samosas. All served with fresh chillies and coriander on the side to add to your own taste - great value for money and very tasty. Again saw locals coming for takeout orders as well. Service was friendly and welcoming as we'd found throughout our stay. Great range of reasonably priced drinks, including local ale, local cider and the local gin and rum. Good selection of wines too. As residents, full English breakfast in the restaurant was freshly cooked to order and delicious too. Dog friendly, definitely recommended and suggest booking in advance as it's a small restaurant.

What a lovely experience! The location is perfect, in a quiet, small town with access to Exmoor beautiful landscapes. The owners - a lovely family - were very kind, gentle, and friendly. The food at the restaurant was so tasty!!! You can easily tell it's freshly made. We tried buying fish and chips the first night from the local Exmoor Fish and chips, but it was such an unpleasant experience that we decided to make sure we were at the Lion Hotel's restaurant by 8pm and order dinner. We were not sorry for one second. Everything looked and tasted excellent! We would love to come back. Thank you so much for the top service!

Just the best experience you can have eating out in Dulverton. A family run restaurant, just the best hosts you could wish for, so friendly and accommodating. An absolutely delightful setting in a traditional Exmoor Inn a 5 minute walk from the CAMC Exmoor House site. The food is amazing and incredible value for money. We sampled the 3 course menu between us including the Schnitzel, Salmon and a Steak. The marinated potatoes as a classic with the schnitzel are just the best. Wish we were staying here longer to sample the popular pizza and curry nights they've started which includes takeaway.

The food was so tasty (my husband said, that this was the best steak he's ever had!), freshly prepared and using local ingredients. The menu option (21 pounds for a 2 course meal and 24 pounds for a 3 course meal) was great value. We shared a starter and a dessert because the portions were reasonable. Staff was very friendly. Visited on a wet Friday evening and although it was quite busy with a big party, we were quickly seated by a lovely log fire (the dog was very wet). The food arrived quickly, was clearly home cooked and extremely tasty. This is not the sort of place where chips arrive in dinky buckets or mains are on wooden chopping boards. After a very long walk our party party of 4 decided on The Lion on a Wednesday evening. It seemed very quiet and quite frankly lacking in atmosphere. We ordered 4 main courses. Two of us had the steak and kidney pie only I seemed to have a kidney only pie and my friend had a steak only pie. The belly pork dish that was ordered was really not cooked properly, it was just incredibly fatty and ultimately ordinary. The chicken stuffed with pesto and mozzarella was actually a breast covered with a scant amount of a red pesto and some mozzarella served with watery leeks. All the accompanying over cooked vegetables were beyond dull. All the food was considerably overpriced

We visited the Tantivy for coffee this morning and what a contrast to the service provided by the Lion Hotel for dinner. In the Tantivy, which is in sight of the Lion, the waitress was excellent. See our review, she actually made you feel welcome and was interested in you as a customer and she wanted your business. The Lion in contrast the waitresses were bordering on surly, no smiles, no interest in us, in fact we felt as though we were an inconvenience. When we asked for anything, we felt we were just a pain for being there and the sooner we left the better. Shame really as the food was pretty good, other than the chips which were a tad undercooked. My steak and kidney pie had a lovely short crust pastry lid but the steak was over cooked to the point of disintegration. My husband ordered the venison casserole. We managed to get into the Bottom ship on Friday 14th December, we were glad to have our annual winter visit as the weir was having issues with electric and a new generator had been put in that morning. The foid we has was excellent the beer as normal presented well and the warmth from the establishment is always heart warming, thank you to the staff to the lovely lady who's name we didn't catch and louis who has been an asset to the pub for our visits for the last 4 years, long may you continue to honour the traditions of Exmoor
