We visited as a family for a Sunday roast, three of us had chicken and one beef. Beef was cooked to perfection, a whole half of chicken each and lots of veggies. Stuffing was home made and tasty. Our server was really attentive and friendly. Prices great. A good experience and we will certainly be back! Thank you

Just had two nights camping in our caravans with friends. Stefan and Dawn are great they make you feel welcome and so do the locals. The campsite is nice and the showers/toilets are spotless. We are local to the Bruce and will now be making this our go too campsite for relaxing weekends.

Dreadful place, poor quality food served on cracked crockery! Expensive camping in a field which crams people in revolting facilities 1 toilet and shower for each gender which is definitely not enough for the number of people! Though I wouldn't recommend using them as they are totally revolting, not clean and mouldy! No soap or loo roll and loo blocked!! There are obviously permanent residents as well!!

This is our third visit and lots of revamping done. A very warm and friendly welcome from Stephan and Dawn. Great dog friendly campsite behind the pub, reasonably priced at £25pn with electric, toilet and shower. Washing up facilities and free WiFi. Yummy food very reasonably priced, Sunday roast to die for, never seen such huge Yorkshire puds! We’re not drinkers, but lots of ales on offer. Thank you both for all your hard work, see you next year. Su and Trevor

A good, old fashioned, no frills pub which hasn't changed for years. (The public bar and snug could be used in a wartime film set.) Choice of real ales. Good value, tasty basic food. The Sunday roast is very satisfying for those who like gravy rather than 'sauce' and puddings rather than deserts. Local clientele mainly 'mature' males but pub is also used by local ladies' groups. Plus a variety of campers. Friendly welcome to all.

I stayed at the campsite with my partner in our campervan in early October. We had drinks in the pub and met the landlord Stephan & Dawn plus a local couple. Camping for 2 night with a Campervan and awning on a EHU pitch. The campsite was level, the pitch was plenty big enough even though it was a busy weekend and was quiet in the middle of no where countryside. The only issue is the lack of shower and toilet numbers, 1 toilet and 1 shower per gender was not enough plus the sinks aren’t big enough to have a wash in. Overall good value for money though The pub was simple tables and chairs but we were outside due to the heatwave. The beer selection was not as good as I hoped, no dark ales, only one lager. The food was excellent, limited menu but great value, the gammon was particularly good

Stayed here for two nights in my camper van, site has lovely views, toilet block is just one toilet and one shower for the ladies and a sink and washing machine seen a lady finding out her knickers in the same sink people were using to was up would be better if they had seprate sink outside undercover for washing up would be much more hygienic, ladies were putting sanitary pads In the bin on outside of cubical which didn’t have a lid so was a magnet for flies and not nice to see as u walked past for a wee, toilet kept running out of toilet roll didn’t seem to be anyone cleaning loos and replenishing toilet roll good job I bought my own! There was always loads of grass in the loos as when they cut the grass they don’t have a grass box so all the cut grass goes back on the grass making the toilet floor a sea of grass all the time, ate in the pub on the Friday night my friend ordered fudge cake and the sauce was well burnt and stuck solid to the plate but they happily replaced it, I would stay again as it’s a lovely area but I will make sure I take plenty of toilet roll and would probably use my own porta loo than their toilets as more hygienic

This pub has been on my radar for a camping weekend away with chums as I have passed by on a motorbike and pushbike numerous times over the last 10 years. We planned to stay there last year but Covid meant last Autumn was off the cards plus I wondered as to how the change of landlord and the lockdown period had affected the place. As it turned out, the camping, the pub, Stefan (the landlord) and his team were excellent. The weather on Friday and Sunday was glorious but the Saturday (the day we were supposed to be cycling) was so wet we stayed in the Bruce from 9am (a fine breakfast there) to around 9pm, watched the rugby, drank plenty of beer (four beers on hand pumps) and caught up with each other for what the first time in ages. The pub serves food from 9-12 but despite no food in the evening, is still a popular spot for locals of all ages to just drink and chat; just what pubs used to be like. Evening food for Friday was found at the excellent Pewsey chippy and Saturday's was from the equally excellent Tale of Spice who will deliver to The Bruce. The campsite is the field behind the pub which is well drained and level with clean toilet and shower facilities at the back of the pub. All in all a superb weekend, excellent beer and thanks again to Stefan and his team for a great stay. I will return at some point and would recommend it to anyone looking to camp in that area.

Called in here for lunch.... a very less than average lunch ! It appears to be a great spot for campers and locals are friendly as are the staff. But the food ??? Bland , luke warm and scant ! Fish and chips had 11 chips on.. and a spoonful of luke warm peas in a large ramekin bizarrely .Partner said fish was ok.Chicken and leek pie , clearly not made on the premises, was at least put in oven to crisp up. Another spoonful of luke warm wet peas in a huge ramekin served with a type of mash potato ( note type unknown) and the most ridiculous type of gravy I have ever seen in my life !! Pale brown liquid with a gel like form! A chocolate fudge cake was ordered and it was a good portion and grandson loved it. Tasted and looked good but an oddity of big tree like sprig of mint , covered in icing sugar plonked in the middle ! Drinks were perfect ! Staff were lovely. Just a shame about the food !Think they need to seriously up their game..and actually "cook "Fantastic but neglected herb garden ...shame its not utilised in some home cooked dishes ! It fed us. But certainly would not return for a meal but grandson would for the dessert ( not produced on site! ) Was asked if meal was ok. Did respond hmm ok ! But it was a young lady doing her job. Not the cooking ! Try yourselves, we all have different tastes !

There is also a large covered area outside which it kept well lit and is fairly sheltered. There are plenty of footpaths through the local countryside accessible from the site. Easily driveable distance to the Uffington White Horse / Stonehenge and Avebury is right on the doorstep. Very strange as the website says, and I have copied and pasted this direct from website “ There are fresh water and chemical waste points and a recently built, heated shower and toilet block with washing up facilities to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible” . This was totally laughable as it was a tiny little block which looked very old with a mans loo (one) just inside door with the washing up sink directly next to the ladies toilet (one) which people were also using to clean their teeth in! Squeezed between the ladies and gents was one tatty, sad shower with mould - I refused to shower in it. The tiny little block was dirty and depressing. The pub is frequented by some interesting ancient locals. The camping field had several residents in tents and caravans who it would seem had not moved for a long time. I would not recommend this place or ever return as I felt, especially in these Covid times, that this place was a health hazard.

We came for a two night stay at the end of August. The first night there was a birthday party in the pub with very loud music but this was turned off promptly at midnight. The party guests (mainly boys) had been instructed to use the camping toilets and were using both the mens and ladies. The pub seems ok but no food meant we walked to Wooton Rivers to the pub there for lunch (group of 8 adults and 5 kids)The camping was ok but the facilities are not great, no hand soap, no toilet roll on Saturday evening and the hand sink in the ladies was not cleaned all weekend, the same piece of paper was on the sink the whole time and it was mouldy. The shower was hot and appears to have had work done on it but cobwebs above the door (and even bigger spider!) show lack of cleaning. Ceiling of shower slightly mouldy but as there is little extraction it would be a challenge to fix.For the price per night a better level of facilities and cleaning needs to be provided.Pub closed early on Saturday so we only had one drink.

Came here last year for a couple of nights camping and were the opposite side of the road to the pub in a lovely field, just what we wanted. No fancy facilities, but nice nevertheless. This year we were round the back of the pub and what can I say - it was like a travellers site. A selection of run down caravans, some bits of car lying around, dog poo everywhere, drum and bass from 8 in the morning from one caravan, the landlords son wandering around in his pyjamas stoned off his head all day, a toilet and shower block that needed a complete overhaul and clean to the point that I stayed unwashed all weekend as I didn’t want to venture in there. The pub didn’t open until 5 each day so you couldn’t even go in there and drown your sorrows. We won’t be coming back.

I have written 45 TripAdvisor reviews and never had reason to rate anywhere with a 1 star until... now!The Bruce Arms, in reality, is not the one I see on their website. We stayed in their campsite for location reasons with intention to eat here but found that their advertised 'gourmet burgers' were only available every other Saturday lunchtime. No other food in sight at any time. On reflection, glad we didn't eat here. The campsite seems to have several permanent residents. There is no evidence of any cleaning/tidying up work taking place here. The rubbish skip was spilling over behind which was a heap of drinks' cans spilling out from split bin bags but the worst was the so called 'modern wash block'. One ladies toilet, one gents toilet, washing up/laundry area - all in need of an overhaul but... the shower! You just wouldn't want to use it with its disgustingly black shower curtain and gaping holes in the plasterwork. And, to top it all, there is a note on the wall saying "please leave this wash room as you would wish to find it"!!! Demolition and start again I say. Luckily, we had our own facilities. The pub itself is very basic but seems popular as a blokes drinking pub. One aspect that perturbed me was that when we went to pay for our camping by credit card, he said he would have to add on a 4% credit card fee to the bill. Does he not know this is now illegal. We paid cash.

We recently spent 3 days here camping in a motorhome. We did not bring food - as would patronise the pub. First shock was no food served except alternate Saturday lunchtimes for burgers! However a good pub about a mile away along a nice trail at Wooton Rivers served lovely food thank goodness. The establishment advertises itself as a camp site - but the camping facilities are to a low standard. One water tap at end of camping area, tiny, unkempt, uncared for toilet block, one overflowing rubbish skip, no grey water disposal facilities. The pub only opens in the evening on weekdays - and not Sunday evening. The pub interior is shall we say "rustic".However the camping field is flat, and hook-up good (extra cost). It is quiet enough , but quite a few seemingly permanent residents dotted around the camping area with their possessions ( eg car being rebuilt, garden swing). So bring your own facilities - I mean ALL facilities that you will need !

We used the campsite, but found that the facilities were in poor condition or did not exist. Just one toilet for gents and one for ladies and shower abysmal. We never located any grey water facility. The pub has unusual opening hours - only open from 5pm weekdays, and not in Sunday evenings. We were surprised no food served on most days. The site is also home for residential caravans which were untidy. The hookup was quite a significant cost (£5) on top of the camping fee of £13.Would find a better establishment next time in Pewsey area.

This could be a fantastic place to visit but the whole place felt grubby and neglected. The facilities consisted of one toilet and one shower for the women and one for the men. A friendly welcome from the Iandlord, a step back in time a traditional old English pub serving four excellent well kept real ales. We arrived on a Saturday when gourmet burgers were being sold, we weren't very impressed with both the price and quality. all our burgers were cold and our opinion rather bland, and the chip's soggy and thus I wouldn't have them again.Taking all this into consideration we would go to the pub again if only for the ales.

Then there's the price, at first glance I thought quite reasonable, £13 for a caravan without electric, but then we were told it was an extra £6 per child (my kids are 4 & 5) so a total £25 per night! This price I'd expect to pay at a much better maintained site with more, clean facilities. We won't be back.

Went there yesterday and witnessed a customer who lives on the pub grounds ask a couple with a staffy if there dog wanted a fight with he’s. No sooner did he do that he then went over to the couple he’s dog following where as he’s dog then set upon the couples staffy dog leaving a cut on the staffy face. The owner went into the pub to ask for some water and salt as well as wanting to make a complaint which all in all was ignored. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS PUB UNLESS YOU DON’T WANT YOUR DOG TO COME OUT IN ONCE PIECE ALONG WITH A NICE VET BILL. The guy by the way just laughed as HE’S dog was attacking the couples dog. I have never witnessed such a disgusting incident on a night out. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

We have stayed her previously and enjoyed it, however we have just left as a dog called Seb owned by Tom has just attacked my dog leaving him bleeding. We reported this to the landlord who doesn't give a hoot as Tom lives there. Having spoken to a chap at the bar, the same dog attacked his just an hour earlier. Do not stay here unless you want to be surrounded by off lead dogs that are attacking guest dogs.

Stayed overnight and a very wet night too, but the hard standing available and electricity make it suitable for a stop at any time of the year. Landlord was very welcoming. Facilities were pretty good though we used our van for most things. The atmosphere in the pub on an early Sunday evening was "proper local" - i.e. friendly, chatty, animated with a very healthily mixed clientele. Good beer and cider. The pub is an area where the walking is excellent and varied and local villages are picturesque and quiet.

We stayed the weekend at the campsite in the Bruce Arms. Nice flat field and very clean. Situated in a beautiful part of the country, the venue was great for one of the many motorbike meets we attend. BBQ equipment provided for larger groups at a very decent price. Pub in the evenings was a great traditional english pub, with good range of ales and ciders (although I partook in some nice G&T;'s). Dog friendly and very relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to next years meet !

Whilst every campsite is busy/full on a bank holiday, The Bruce Arms crammed more people than you could imagine into his small field. Horrendously noisy (at 0130), toilets were so unclean my children (and wife) refused to use them. If it were cheap, you may make excuses, although at almost £30 per night - seriously!!!

This is a great little pub, an old fashioned local with friendly regulars and a good selection of beer. No food on offer, just conversation and people watching. I stuck my tent up in the grounds for £6, bargain. Camping facilities were clean and pleasant....

Stayed three nights over the weekend. We had stayed before and we're looking forward to the same clean pleasant place it was back then. Oh how disappointed we were. The cost at £18 for a caravan with hookup is pretty average so no complaints there. £per person in a tent isn't bad either. Shame some of the money isn't spent on maintaining the facilities in a reasonable condition.Fully accept that one is in the hands of the people using them to an extent but they are filthy. We use the facilities in the van but we had campers with us, we had to let them use ours. There was no soap for hand washing and no hand drier. The facilities smelt like they hadn't been cleaned in months and by the look of the cobwebs it could have been years. To say the place has gone downhill is an understatement. No toilet cleaner or disinfectant and kept running out of toilet rolls. Even the Elsan point was pretty awful, I know users are expected to rinse it but it needs scrubbing with a toilet brush. Had there been one there I would have done it.In all we had a great weekend but that was in spite of the location, not because of it. Maybe it is because it was so crowded, there must have been 30 caravans and tents there and all in two showers, and two toilets. Needless to say we will never return. There are many more pleasant site to choose from, this just falls way below an acceptable standard.

Lovely pub, tasty beers, a super little sitting room with armchairs and sofas round the corner from the bar. We didn't eat in but the meals looked tasty.Matt, the owner, is friendly and helpful. We camped across the road in the overflow field. It was flat and 'clean'.There is 1 male and 1 female shower, use of which are included in the price. There is a crockery washing up sink and even a washing machine, although we only stayed 2 nights and didn't use the latter. We shall definitely return for next year's festival.Rosalind

The Bruce Arms is a fantastic, quirky little pub. Myself and friends/ family camp here as much as we can. The landlord Matt is very welcoming and always finds time to come and say hello. The field is flat and the facilities are well kept and clean. The pub is has a very homely feel to it and is very much original. Walking into the small sitting area is almost like walking into someones home. The function room has a pool table, darts board and a unique game that can keep you entertained for hours.Good selection of draught and bottles beers always available. Highly recommended

I was camping here in June, my second visit in a couple of years. Same as last time really, lovely pub, great ales, a nice frienldy atmosphere. several seating areas, one with sofas etc., one more traditional, another through another door, and a games room. Really nice, and I just wish they could move it to Swindon - about two doors down from me would be heaven.

This visit to The Bruce Arms' was the occasion of a local Sporting Party meeting early morning for Bacon Butties and Hot Coffee prior to facing the elements of a hostile Wilshire day.A roaring log fire greeted us along the beaming smile of Matt the Landlord who must be one of the very best ‘Traditional Landlords' in the UK.Car Parking is plentiful and The Bruce Arms also offers spacious Camping / Caravan facilities at the rear of the Main building for those who choose to enjoy this charming part of the Wiltshire countryside in a more basic form. The Bar boast a first class selection of Real Ales and is credited in the Camra Best Beer Guide, and we retuned after ours days sport to once again enjoy the ambience of this truly great wayside Tavern.

Ive known this pub for 25 years and have seen it grow into a truly nice place since Matt took over. The one thing that's never change is the quiet colourfulness of the regulars which means that despite being busy with caravans and campers it never looses its country character.

We stayed at this beautiful looking campsite & through no fault of the Pub Landlord & owner we unfortunately had the camping neighbours from Hell. One was a loud mouthed English/Danish couple with 4 little kids & a crying baby (4 hourly feed obviously) & had 2 dogs that they let roam the campsite. The were in our tent & tried stealing our food while barking at everyone. Too bad if you're scared of dogs! The five attempts to erect their tent in different spots was amusing though. What looks like a residential caravan had a couple of dogs locked inside that barked & howled for over 2 hours solid. Other campers said this was normal & no point asking the owners to shut them up as they tried asking.Unbelievable noise yet the folks leaving the pub were quieter. Our 'neighbours & their dogs' didn't shut up til after midnight. THEN!...2 army helicopters started patrolling several times, directly overhead. They were however, drummed out after 1am by a drunken trio of guys - swearing, shouting & then put the car music up loud. We asked nice but had to go knock the landlord up. They put music down a bit before he saw them. He spoke to them but they were still loud for half an hour after too... and woke us all again at 7am revving their cars. They were still there when we left.We thought that being in the middle of the countryside it would be quiet. I've never known such noise that wasn't even checked. Really expected to have owner apologise in the morning but no sight of him. We got up & left before even bothering with breakfast as the big family were spreading out with their barking dogs etc already. If you don't care for noise-Fine!Toilets okay. Shower real mucky. Bins overflowing & most biting horseflies ever but it's only a fiver a head to camp so fair play. Ground is flat. Bbq is okay but keep it up on bricks.Overall. I love the campsite. I can handle the army & their movements but by the selfish rudeness of others this has marred it. The owner Matt was lovely. Such a shame. Really wish it was easier to have people quieten down or have an owner do a quick recce. We complained - yes! We're not moaning Minnie's or unreasonable people but to have threats from others so we lay awake for an hour waiting on retaliation at 2am or dogs in our camp then sorry. I'm telling how it is. First day of our holiday after an 8 hour shift. .. dang!

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
