Our second visit to this lovely hotel for Sunday Lunch. Excellent lunch, and as we left the manager chased after us to tell us we had overpaid! Don’t miss a walk in the hotel’s glorious garden, that leads down to the river.

We treat ourselves to Sunday lunch regularly around Cornwall and Budock had been on our list for a while. The location is lovely and the building well kept . The restaurant is well designed and we were looking forward to our lunch. The following observations would turn it from a 'good' restaurant into an 'excellent ' one. The restaurant staff are inexperienced and made schoolboy errors with their service. When we were shown to our table it would have been nice if the waiter had carried our glasses and the opened bottle of wine to the table rather than allow us to negotiate the steps ourselves trying to balance them. We were offered bread before we had managed to actually sit in our chairs, a sign of inadequate training and inexperience which can be easily remedied. The starter of crab and salmon was delicious. The roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was also tasty but the vegetables were plain and boring. Why not cauliflower cheese instead of boiled cauliflower? Why not carrots with, say, caraway and/or honey? This needs addressing as it is letting the dish down. The pudding was fine . I would like Budock to build on what it has as it could be a significant player in the roast lunch scene and consequently fill the remaining 60% of tables that were empty in the restaurant today.

I Just got back from Easter Sunday lunch…..not impressed.! We had the set menu at £28ph. I was served two thin slices of lamb, three over dried small roast potatoes, clearly sat under a heat lamp for some considerable time, three bullet hard carrots, one floret of cauliflower and one of broccoli. Served with flavourless gravy. !! Left feeling hungry and very disappointed. The starter wasn’t much to write home about but credit where it’s due the desert was okay, but just okay. Others at my table had the beef and were similarly unimpressed. One had the Hake with samphire, this consisted of 3 samphire stalks, not the soft juicy ends as we should have seen given, but three stalks. Certainly won’t be hurrying back. 😡

What a fabulous find. Beautiful setting just 6 miles outside of Falmouth on the coast. Immaculate rooms with everything you need. Food was excellent and prepared by such a young team of talented chefs. Every member of staff was warm and welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay so pleasurable. The venue has its own beach and the coastal walk into Falmouth was beautiful. The Gourmet weekend consisted of a five course meal with wine pairings with each wine introduced. This was both the Friday and Saturday and represented excellent value for money. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you to the whole team at the hotel for giving us such a lovely weekend.

We arrived for lunch and were pointed to our table at one end of the dining area. No escort was proffered. After a 40min wait with no offer of a drink or food order, we had to find a waiter. One of the items of cutlery was dirty and the following food distinctly average, save for some excellent chips. Ironically these has been forgotten by our waiter who had to check his list when we queried this and no apology was given nor any sauces offered. Our waiter had no conversation, no smile and looked miserable. We were never asked whether everything was fine with our meal. A distinctly lazy approach. When we finished we sat with our dirty plates for 20 mins, no offer to clear them or for any desert tea or coffee. The best part of the meal was the view from the window. We were disappointed with our lunch experience.

The hotel and dining room are so well presented that you are both comfortable and impressed as soon as you walk in. We were using a Sunday lunch voucher given to us as a present for our 50th wedding anniversary albeit eight months late! The service in the bar and dining room was excellent and we have never come across better. The starters and desserts were really special. The roast was what you would expect. Even reception was really friendly when we came to pay. It was a lovely experience thanks to all the staff. It certainly makes us want to return.

Long overdue but I loved the couple days at Budock Vean Hotel in October,2022. The staff are amazing, very helpful and supportive and the food absolutely divine - I enjoyed it all with a lovely glass of Red Wine. The walk down to The Helford River through the gardens was rewarding and uplifting after I had some issues concerning my health plus the wonderful swimming pool and sauna was great. I cannot speak highly enough of the friendly, supportive staff and in my eyes the food was 5 STARS. Excellent. Thank you ALL and especially to Wendal.

It saddens me to have to write a negative review about a local hotel but after our visit on Saturday 29th October the hotel manager, Mr Barlow (has refused to reply to my personal email) and therefore has left me no choice but to make others aware of our experience. We booked a table at the Budock Vean for a very special occasion and were so looking forward to it. We booked two weeks in advance and then were told we had to call back on the Wednesday 26th to make sure they could accommodate us (they didn't offer to call us). We were also told that we could not book a table in the restaurant (unsure why) but that we would be seated in the Conservatory. On arrival nobody knew about our booking and we were told to wait while a table in the conservatory was wiped down (not laid up!). We had walked past a beautiful restaurant which was only half full and with beautifully laid up tables. We were offered a very limited bar menu (not the fine dining experience advertised on the website) of fish and chips (in a basket), steaks or sandwiches or a very limited 2 course menu (2 choices on each course). The conservatory was empty but worse still the restaurant was only half full - so we had no idea as to why we couldn't have been seated in there instead of on our own. The food we received was very nice but fish and chips in a basket on a special night out wasn't what we envisaged. Also sat at a wooden table with no cloth and no preparations for our reservation was also very sad. Our waiter was really lovely for the evening, he only had our table to look after in the conservatory because being 'non residents' we were excluded from the restaurant area and sat on our own. This hotel prides itself on it's website for customer care and fine dining experiences. This seems to be extended only to the 'residents' after reading the lovely positive comments on TripAdvisor but 'non local residents' are clearly not welcome for an evening meal (unless you want to sit in a cold and empty conservatory) at this hotel and any feedback is not worthy of a reply. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to recommend an evening of fine dining at the Budock Vean because ours was far from it. Please don't waste money buying vouchers for dining experiences unless they are intended for afternoon lunch or the spa, both of these experiences have been positive and very relaxing in the past.

Greeted on arrival by lovely friendly staff at reception and pointed in the direction of the dining area. Afternoon tea was the usual combination of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, and a selection of small cakes, sadly 2 of these disintegrated in the heat. The only cutlery given were teaspoons with our drinks and a knife; it would be useful to give extra teaspoons for the jam and cream! Service was prompt and attention was given to an allergy to cucumber, all be it very loudly so the guests at the next table heard, this was followed by a story about the servers friend who is apparently scared of cucumbers with the comment being made that maybe ' he had been abused by one when he was younger'! It's totally inappropriate at the best of times, but due to the job i have, I found this an awful thing to say! All in all his behaviour was embarrasing to this hotel! That said I would return for the Afternoon Tea if I could be guaranteed a more professional service.

The attitude of the two members of staff I spoke to were appalling, they couldn’t give a straight answer, dithering on the end of the telephone like wet behind the ears teenagers! We regularly eat here to celebrate birthdays and just recently in May to celebrate a wedding anniversary, despite being told this evening ‘they don’t take bookings from outsiders’! This is the 4th time that I have visited this hotel over a period of about 20 years and it never ceases to please. My first visit was after surgery and I wanted a place to relax in a peaceful setting. I "found" it in a newspaper advert, I liked the look of it and took a chance on it long before the advent of the internet in general and sites like Trip Adviser where you can do thorough research. It didn't disappoint then and still doesn't disappoint. Owned by the same family for about 30 years they have found a winning formula which hopefully they will not change. The rooms are very comfortable, especially the Signature Rooms, the grounds are a pleasure to stroll in, the golf course is included in the cost of your room (as is the swimming pool and hot tub) the Spa is there if you want it (at additional cost per treatment, obviously) the food is superb and the service exceptional. After each visit I say I will not wait so long before returning but needless to say I will return.

Little is explained to the arriving party, even the location of the room was unclear. We enjoyed our short stay but it did feel like we had gate crashed on an exclusive club and were outsiders. Worst of all the hot tub was used as a bath by one family. The children washed and shampooed themselves leaving behind cloudy soapy water and bubbles galore. The porter chided me for my decision not to go in. He assured me it was perfectly fine! I think I will always prefer not to bath in others' bath water.

I stayed here with a friend who had been here before and thought I might like it.I am glad to say I liked it very much indeed.I am not a frequent visitor to Cornwall because it is a long journey from my area. However the journey was well worth it.The hotel is well presented and welcoming. As much as is possible it caters well for most people. There is a decent vegetarian menu which I appreciated. Dogs are welcome. I liked that because my own dog does not travel and I had other dogs to say hello to.Although mostly this is a hotel which caters for adults there were some happy children in the pool. There was a sauna and lots of opportunity to relax as you would in most spas. The spa was good enough. I have experienced better but it would be chulish to complain because the over all experience was good. There are lovely gardens surrounding the hotel and a short walk takes you to the private beach where boat trips can take you for a little adventure. The sun room by the beach is fun. The plants surrounding it make you feel as though you are in a jungle. There is a phone to summon staff to bring you a cocktail which might be apprciated on a hot day.Nearby there are attractions. Falmouth is not far away. You could spend a day there and there are gardens close by. We went to Trebah garden which occupied a few hours. Children might enjoy the seal sanctuary which is not too far away. There are are a lot of games, books and a snooker table to enjoy Also tennis courts and a lovely golf course. The bottom line is that you cannot please all of the people all of the time. However during my four day visit I was pleased most of the time. The things I will take away from her for ever are the good energy of the place, the perfect scrambled eggs and the beautiful wooden floors. I visited this hotel for a spa day with friends. The hotel itself is large, well kept and with great facilities. The spa has a range of treatments which are of a high standard and are reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and professional, providing a service which results in a very relaxing experience.Full use of the pool, outdoor hot tub and sauna, as well as a light lunch completed the day.Highly recommended.

On holiday in Cornwall and passed the sign for this hotel whilst out exploring. Remembered seeing this place on the trip advisor website before we left home and wanted to see what it was like.Long driveway to the hotel, majestic looking building. Asked at reception if it was ok to have a coffee, pleasant gent said it was fine and directed us to the bar area where coffees were served.Smartly dressed bar gent took our order and we sat outside in the large patio area. Lovely gardens, people lounging on sun beds. Very quiet relaxing place.Mainly elderly clientele about at the time of our visit, all very smartly dressed, looked very posh.Lounge area had lovely old quality furniture.Coffee was delicious served with a shortbread finger, yummy, all for £3.00 per cup.I used the toilet facilities before we left. They were Immaculate, fluffy towels to dry your hands as well as good quality soft paper towels provided. Clarins soap and hand cream, both which smelt beautiful. I would love to return and spend a night or two if we can afford it.

Brilliant breakfast, especially haddock and the scrambled egg with generous helping of smoked salmon. Friendly helpful staff and strong coffee on request. Shame the cafetieres deposit coffee grounds on linen tablecloths. Please do not describe deep fried potatoes as sauté, as part of full English breakfast.Four course dinners delicious, supported by affordable selection of wines. When crumbling down, which is lovely, please use a dinner plate so that crumbs are caught! Slightly old fashioned insistence on men in jackets in restaurant, but smart shirt and trousers sufficed. Staff helpful and skilled at dealing with all guests. Good to see the owner coming round to chat to guests too. Some professional input to service would add to enjoyment here, but this is nitpicking.

We stayed in the 3 storey guest house for a week. The children loved the pool (daily). The service both in the main hotel and to the house was excellent - nothing too much trouble. The dining is a real benefit here. You don't have to dress for dinner but try it for an improved experience. My only complaint was that I would have liked a graduated dining experience with scaling of cost. We loved the food for one meal but would not want a week eating like that.

We stayed at the fantastic budock Vean hotel in Helford passage at the end of July. What a brilliant two days. The hotel is sumptuously comfy, food is magnificent and location Divine. We loved every meal, freshness and quality and my husband says he has never met such lovely, kind and helpful staff. the team at Budock are so great. There is a good leisure centre and golf course. This is a great value break and for foodies like us an absolute delight. Thanks to all for a great second visit, the third will be booked soon

We have been trying the afternoon tea experience in various places over the past few weeks. The hotel was lovely and the grounds were stunning with wonderful views. However afternoon tea is between 3 and 5 pm. The food was very good but it was minimal. For tea there was a choice of 2 scones and tea or 1 scone and a slice of cake. This was a 'do-it'yourself' tea. It was very difficult to handle plates and serve yourself with jam and cream. There were no dishes or spoons for this and nowhere to put your plate down to carry out this task. Very difficult to do especially when people are banking up behind you. Our pot of tea was brought to us and the china was very nice. However I expect afternoon tea to comprise sandwiches and cakes (small) then scones and jam and cream which is what we have had at our last 3 venues. This was not a typical afternoon tea in my judgement. The staff were helpful and pleasant.

Stayed here recently with friends. The setting is absolutely stunning, beautiful grounds and gardens leading down to a beach. (You can organise kayaking here). We had several meals here all excellent and served either inside, in the conservatory or the wonderful terrace. Excellent crab sandwiches and cream teas by the way ! My only criticism would be the bar service, unfortunately we all felt the service was unpleasant and unprofessional whoever we were served by which was a real shame. I must note the service at breakfast was lovely and we were really well looked after by a couple of nice lads. We were in 'signature' rooms which were superb, spacious, modern and very stylish which had a lovely view of the golf course. The rooms had everything you'd need. Other parts of the hotel aren't as modern, i.e. some corridors are dated and some are stylish, so it would appear the hotel are doing areas up as they go along, which is absolutely fine. Breakfast was a great experience, as I've said lovely service and the selection / quality was some of the best I have encountered. I had smoked salmon and eggs and it was nice to see other items other than a full English breakfast on offer (which looked delicious and got rave reviews from the table!). We finished our coffee on the terrace and it was just lovely. The spa is very sizeable and has a big pool, a sauna and a large outdoor jacuzzi where (all being well) you can catch the sun and look out to the gardens. Would recommend a relaxing and peaceful weekend stay here.

My partner and I had a beautifully romantic weekend break here back in September. Usually we stick to a much tighter budget for accommodation but we decided to splash out on this occasion and were not disappointed. My one reservation before we arrived was that I had read some reviews that the rooms and hotel were old fashioned. On reflection, I can in some ways I can understand why this was being said, however the rooms were certainly very clean and the older style was actually quite charming and fitted well with the decor, location and atmosphere of Budock Vean. The stay was certainly not cheap but I did feel we got value for money from our stay, the food (breakfast and dinner) was of the highest standard both in the restaurant and as room service. The facilities were also fantastic and we took full advantage of the brilliant swimming pool, sauna and out-door hot tub. We also booked spa treatments (an extra cost) which were also good value for money and a lovely indulgent treat!Perhaps what made our stay most enjoyable was the staff, from reception to spa to kitchen to restaurant to bar to room service, they were all wonderfully friendly and helpful without being in any way obtrusive. My one slight reservation, possibly not even reservation but note, was that a couple in our late 20s we did find that the average age of the hotel's clientele was a lot higher than we expected. This wasn't a problem and in fact meant that we had pretty much free reign of the facilities (!) but I can't help but feel that there would be something to be gained from the hotel doing more to encourage younger couples and families to stay. My suggestion would be offering more special deasls or breaks. But as I say overall we had a magical stay.

Visited this hotel today for Sunday lunch with friends. The food was delicious. We ordered starters of mackerel and my friends had the ham terrine and watercress and hamhock soup. Then we all had the lemon sole with shrimps and capers which came with roast potatoes boiled potatoes carrots cauliflower and red cabbage. Two of us had a dessert of baileys panacotta with sorbet and two of us shared a cheese board with quince jam celery and crackers. Plenty for two people to share. The wine was lovely and we had coffees in the conservatory the service was impeccable and the atmosphere chilled, peaceful and perfect for our Sunday afternoon chillout. We will be definitely coming back.

We popped in for a 'bar lunch' in half term as we wanted to look at something pretty in the warmth on a wild Cornish day. We each had a lovely meal, soufflé (deliciously soft and puffy), scallops (very enjoyable) and chef made a small portion of battered hake (really nice) for the small child. I had chicken strips with a sweet chilli flavour - which all the other fellas sampled! The barman, Sam, was so accommodating and pleasant and we had a thoroughly relaxing lunch (puddings and coffees, too), which is always a surprise with two boys. The main body of the hotel has be refurbished and is welcoming and we'd certainly eat there again.

We had been looking forward to treating ourselves to Sunday lunch recently. Service was very good, the food was average. Vegetables were plain carrots and cauliflower, no garnish or butter, some braised red cabbage and roast and boiled potatoes. Come on chef, lets have some cauliflower cheese, and maybe a bit of green on the plate! Yorkshire pudding dry and hard. Desserts very poor, the only hot dessert being some warmed up chocolate fudge cake used for afternoon tea. Cafetiere of coffee very cloudy and undrinkable. We shall not return, there are so many other very good places to eat locally. And when was the bar menu changed last? Over three years ago I estimate.

Visiting Cornwall to see my goddaughter we thought we would treat ourselves to a day spa together, what a fabulous day! On arrival were given vouchers for our lunch, tea/coffee/soft drink. Went to the spa area where our robe and slippers were waiting for us changed into our costumes and had the most relaxing day I've had in a long time. The pool was not busy at all (2 people in there) the outdoor hot tub was amazing with great views overlooking the golf course, the sauna again had nobody in it so we felt as though we were alone in a fabulous spa. Went to have lunch which was amazing, fresh prawn and citrus salad was HUGE my goddaughter had king prawn with marie rose sauce which again was huge, massive prawns full of flavour. The latte and cappicinno were also fab served with a fresh homemade shortbread biscuit. The waiter was really helpful and obviously enjoyed his job.Sitting out on the veranda overlooking the valley in the sum was fabulous! After lunch we had a massage (included in the price) which was fabulous, I had the hot stone massage and my goddaughter had the back massage both finished off our day perfectly!highly recommend this place if you want some quiet RnR and a bit of pampering on the side! :)

Always welcoming, service always excellent and we keep promising ourselves we will stay here again. The cream teas are really special and the last time we ate in the main restaurant that was superb too. This is not a cheap place to stay or dine but its worth it. I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
