This is a nice little spot in Colyton and my cream tea was delicious. The owner was polite but not particularly welcoming whilst not being unpleasant. The reason for my 3* review is that it made me sad to eat in a garden with caged birds. I know it's up to people what pets they have, but really not my thought. They looked sad in a cage on a braiding sunny day. This is 2024, not the 1970s.

Carolyn, Richard & Georgia, you should be so proud of your beautiful tea room. We nipped in by chance (a group of 12 of us with 2 little ones) as it was starting to rain. The kids played for a few hours (unheard of) in the little corner where a great little kids play area has been set up. What we did not expect was the best sausage roll we've ever had! All of the food and drink is locally sourced and freshly prepared - Stunning 😁. Carolyn and Richard took the time to say hello and have a good old chat which really added to our stop. Highly recommend 😁

We only stopped here to look at the llamas but we were so glad we did. We had a lovely bit of tea and cake and when i commented on the planting myself and the owners were off into a long chit chat (and a garden tour) on all the plants we like, this then evolved into putting the worlds to rights. It was an absolute delight, very friendly owners, so glad we had plenty of time to relax in this interesting and quirky tea room.

We recently decided to take the beautiful tram ride from Seaton to Colyton and decided to pop into Liddons dairy tea room. Now where do I start …. No greeting at all from the very mature woman behind the counter, I’m guessing this must be the owner as I don’t believe anyone would hire this lady in any customer service based role. The cafe was quiet however we were with two young children 5 and 2 who were deciding which ice cream they wanted and she scowled as they were deciding, she then proceeded to scoop the smallest scoop on to a wafer cone - Note advertised as waffle cones! But charged the same price. We sat and watched another couple look at the llamas she then ran out yelling them to move away! (No signs up) telling them not to look at the animals. Very abrupt and not customer friendly. The llama was hissing not the friendliest of animals… I’m guessing this must be the lady behind the counters pet as you know what they say…. Like owner like pet! Avoid avoid avoid!!

The cream tea was fantastic. We ordered seconds! The scones were homemade and still warm. The garden provided so much fun and entertainment for our three children, my youngest who is two years old fed the llamas and looked at the chickens and the Guinea pigs with pure joy. There was a selection of books and items for sale and I was able to buy a beautiful art book at a bargain price to read as I drank my tea. The friendliest without being pushy felt like you had arrived at an old friends home rather than a business trying to push you into buying things. Very relaxed and welcoming and accommodating especially great for families with young children, there were toys and chalk boards provided. Would give 10 out of 10.

We drove past this tearoom on the way to the tram for our day out. When we arrived we weren’t greeted in any way, it felt more like we were intruding. We asked if we had to go to the counter to order (as no one had spoken to us) and we were just told ‘yes’. Like many other reviews, the lady behind the counter wasn’t friendly at all and we even felt like walking out. Anyway, we had children with us and didn’t want to go and find anywhere else. The tea and cake was nice but overpriced. No ‘thank you’ when we left! We walked up the road to the tram only to realise there was a lovely cafe there with much much friendlier staff! Would much rather have given our custom to them.

We stumbled across this tea room as I guess many people do as we made the walk from the tram down into Colyton. We decided to go back after we had explored the town. It was a nice day, the outdoor setting looked inviting and as it was mid morning we were looking forward to their advertised cream tea. Upon arrival we were made to feel extremely unwelcome, not even a 'hello' passed the lips of the lady behind the counter. Barely any other exchange of words, just a very uncomfortable 'presence' which I can't really explain. The place was not busy, just one other table when we arrived. We ordered a cream tea for one as we decided to share. We also ordered a brownie for our son who then decided he wanted a different cake. The lady had only put the brownie on the plate at the counter and we asked politely if she would mind swapping the brownie for the cake my son preferred the look of. You would have thought we'd asked her to go and bake a special cake it was so much of an effort! Just muttered 'that's an extra 80p' which we were obviously happy to pay. When we got our cream tea we then noticed the lady sitting down to have her breakfast so perhaps she was annoyed we were delaying her breakfast time?. Regardless of this I think if you work in the service industry and you have PAYING customers it doesn't take much to SMILE or say HELLO to make your customers feel welcome! It was such a dampener on our visit after such a lovely morning on the tram with lovely friendly staff, in complete contrast to the unfriendly staff in this cafe. Also a small complaint that squash here is £1.40 which I think is far too much considering it is just cordial and tap water. This cafe could be amazing as it has the setting, just such a shame about the unwelcoming nature of the staff.

I hate complaining, would much rather leave good feedback for everyone but today's visit was awful, we were really looking forward to a nice lunch, tea, cakes the lot & was delighted to discover Liddons just outside the tram station, we found a table & my husband went inside to order, the lady on the counter didn't acknowledge him but my husband waited patiently until she'd finished what she was doing but then she buzzed off....returned. ...then buzzed off, I was sat outside watching other customers swapping plates as staff served wrong orders to tables, we tried to get the lady's attention with a nod and a smile. ...but got a glare in return so we promptly left, got back on the tram and ate in Seaton instead. Apologies for the negative feedback but today's visit was quite frustrating and disappointing, maybe it was just bad luck or simply 'one of those days '.

This tea room is set in an idyllic place on the edge of Colyton and the building has been refurbished to a very high standard. We had cakes, ice cream and coffees which were all of excellent quality, but our visit was marred by the dreadful atmosphere inside the tea room. The owner and her husband were sitting at the front table chatting with another gentleman and reading the Sunday papers I said hello twice to her as she moved to stand behind the counter to serve me, but she could barely raise a smile. She then snapped at her husband to serve our teens with their ice creams and the whole atmosphere was tense and unwelcoming. She was also incredibly uptight with a member of staff who'd been tasked with wiping all the tables down and straightening the oilcloth tablecloths within an inch of their life. Such a pity, as the place is thoughtfully laid out with good quality second hand books to purchase and browse, a selection of children's toys for little ones to borrow and some interesting animals outside including chickens and llamas. However, a smile and a friendly welcome cost nothing and was such a contrast to the friendly locals we'd been chatting to earlier in the village who were not there to make a living out of our custom as visitors, but merely being friendly and helpful. We won't return.

We stopped here (six of us) after getting off the Seaton Tram at its end and turn-around stop - Colyton. The Liddons Dairy Tearoom is very inviting and attractive, just a short walk from the Tram station, It was not busy and many tables outside free; so we thought we would sit outside for a little lunch. The environment here is really lovely, with many potted plants, flowers, with nice seating in an open terrace off the restaurant. All very good..... so far!We ordered 3x cream teas, a ham and cheese toasted pannini, an egg mayonnaise baguette and an ice cream and three other drinks. You have to pay in advance at the point of ordering - which I did to the young man that took my order. We sat down an enjoyed the ambiance, and waited for the drinks and food. And waited.....and waited......eventually, after about 35 minutes or so, the teas arrived and my coffee (but not the scones or sandwiches) After another 15 minutes, two of the scones arrived, but not the other cream tea or the sandwiches. After complaining to the young waiter, (who responded by saying "we're extremely busy, there's nothing I can do, they are working on your order as I speak"....I looked around at the empty tables. After another 15 minutes, our egg mayonnaise and the pannini finally arrived, this now after some 45 minutes wait - but not the third cream tea. After complaining to the young waiter again, and another 15 minutes, (and the teas all drunk) the other scone for the third cream tea finally arrived, (via a rather sour-faced middle aged lady and not so much as a 'sorry') This now was over an hour after the teas had been brought out! There was no apology and the owner and the other three people working there all seem totally disorganized and unable to do what they have set up to - i.e to provide a service!Other people also outside could also be heard to complain and talking between themselves about the complete lack of attention and service - its rather like something out of Fawlty Towers! To be fair, the food was very good and well presented, the disjointed way it is dispatched and the shocking wait for what amounts to a very basic simple order, makes for a poor impression and hence this review. I cannot imagine what this would be like if they were really busy, its such a shame as its a lovely looking place.

Stopped for a late lunch on a sunny August weekday. It was a lovely setting with eating both inside or on the patio. Mediterranean Panini special with side salad did not disappoint. Very tasy, and the herb salad side was delicious. Husband had cream cheese and ham Panini and enjoyed that too. Lovely spot for light lunch, and the cream teas looked fabulous too.

There were a number of things that really let this tearoom down. Firstly, the service was very poor. The owner was very unfriendly, and didn't say a word to us as we came up to order, not even a 'hello' or 'what would you like', she barely managed eye contact. This was repeated by the waitress, who placed our food on the table in total silence. We also heard arguing between the owner and staff, leading to a generally negative atmosphere. Secondly, the salad they served me (which was nicely fresh from the garden) had a caterpillar and a spider hiding in it. Finally, the food is very overpriced for what it is, which was a slightly soggy panini. It was a real shame, as the tearoom looked so promising with a lovely patio garden. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

A short stroll from the Seaton Tram Station just before entering the picturesque little town of Colyton you will come across Liddons Dairy Tearoom. A lovely little place that is set in glorious countryside & has a small animal farm attached to it with horses, birds, chickens & even Llamas....the kids will love it. Lunch & the service we had at the restaurant was excellent. Thoroughly recommended .

I went to the tea room while visiting Devon with my family and it was one of the best parts of the weekend! The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the coffee and baguette was served fairly quickly and was delicious! It had a lovely outside seating area which was extremely relaxing sitting peacefully in the sun and had animals there which my two kids aged 4 and 5 loved! It was a wonderful experience and if I come to Devon again I will be returning.

Walked passed and decided to have a light lunch. Was served and went outside to sit down. I had ordered 2 mango smoothies that took over 20 minutes to arrive and then did not taste of mango!!After over an hours wait for our food to turn up, I went to ask how long it would be? we had only ordered 2 panini's and was told that it was being done. We waited another 10 minutes for it to turn up. We wouldn't of minded if it was busy but there was only 4 other tables occupied when we turned up. Go if you have time to sit around and wait.

Went there for cream tea with my 11 month old, absolutely lovely setting and the weather was gorgeous so we sat outside. The lady was very friendly and we did get into a conversation with her, after finishing our scones (home-made and delicious) we was talking and a gentleman brought over a guinea pig for my 11 month old to stroke, i noticed a couple of outdoor toys for children so made me feel very happy to bring my 2 older daughters, 4 & 6 to here as well. The animals where lovely to see and it really is a beautiful setting,a great experience - in my top 5 of places for a good cuppa!!

The owner grows all her plants from seeds and sells loads of them. Don't get greedy unless you take the car! There is a parking area here, and there are llamas, a couple of ponies, a guinea pig and several different kinds of chickens. So whilst you have a quiet cuppa under the big umbrellas in the Summer, or inside in the Winter, kids can be spotting the wildlife! Also several tabletop wooden toys for tinies to play with. Home-made cakes (including merangues flavoured with real fruit and sandwiched together with clotted cream), icecream and cream teas, as well as light lunches. Have been back several times.

Stopped here with two hungry under 6's and was made to feel very unwelcome. I don't think the owner likes kids in the place. We could only afford scones and tea as it's cash only but the owner was rude and put us off ever returning. she was sweeping up under our feet as we were eating and after our little boy spilt his drink on the plastic table cloths you would have thought he had commited a crime. She went into a panic, made us move tables and then asked us to sit our child properly at the table so he didn't do it again, Even moving his chair at the next table while he was sat in it. We are careful parents but kids do have accidents) The young lad who served us looked like he hated his job but was much more pleasant. Such a shame as the Scone was delicious, the place looks lovely and the animals are great but we won't be returning.

When my Wife queried why we hadn't received our order she was challenged us with "Have you paid?". We are local and will not be recommending this place to anyone. Thank God we're not all like this in Devon !!! The place wasn't busy and so she wasn't rushed off her feet...........

We had a family visit here for lunch after arriving on the tram from Seaton. It's a beautiful place, with animals to occupy the kids. However, in line with previous comments the lady running the place is clearly in the wrong job. She had zero customer service skills, leaving a poor young waitress to deal with a rush of customers while she emptied the post box and moved a Llama! We were the second table in there and it took them 45 minutes for them to get us 4 sandwiches! Real shame as otherwise it stood out in so many positive ways.

We called in as the clouds cleared and had delicious Panini - one with avocado and prawns, two others with generous ham, all served with salad herbs and edible flowers from the garden. Good coffee and a pot of Earl Grey tea - and a strong temptation to go on to a cream tea that was being enjoyed by another table. It was busy and as everything is made to order there was a little wait but the setting is lovely and there are exotic chickens and llamas to enhance the view, and an elegant horse in a nearby paddock.

Myself, my two sons and my elderly mum (83) visited these tearooms for a drink and ice cream and to see if it would be suitable for my son's birthday gathering for afternoon tea with other family members a few days later. We are visitors to the area. The middle aged woman who seems in charge is very unfriendly, several times she turned her back on me as I was talking to her and she gave me no positive regard. Her air is of someone who is agitated by the customer's presence and is not enjoying her job. She made us feel very uncomfortable and as if we were a nuisance. When enquiring about the proposed birthday gathering she was totally off putting, it would obviously be a great strain on her and we were left feeling we were defintely not welcome. The coffee is very poor and the cup not even filled, I had to ask for some more milk to make it a full cup. However the most unreasonable thing was when we asked for an extra cup so my eldest son could try some of his nana's Earl Grey which he has never had before. We were refused the cup by the young waitress with the explanation 'my boss [a man behind the scenes I believe] says I can't give you another cup because that is tea for one' . Unbelievable! I walked out at this point because I found it such an unpleasant place to be but my mum stayed a bit finishing her drink and told them that in all of her life she had never been refused an extra plate or cup to share a bit of food. I also heard an argument in the kitchen as I went to the toilet...there is a lot of negativity here . The woman who seems to be in charge takes no joy in her job and shouldn't be there. And the obvious grasping of every penny is repulsive. An experience that effected my whole day in a negative way. It could have coloured my view of Devonshire people had I not met some lovely people in shops and cafes in Seaton. Such a shame ...it is a beautiful setting, a lovely place...but with unpleasant people running it.

As a local I have visited this tearoom on several occasions. The setting is beautiful and the rooms very presentable. However, on every occasion I have been greeted by an extremely unfirendly middle aged woman. On one occasion I was even turned away becuase she was expecting a large party to arrive. Thinking that this was possibly not normal behaviour, I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and visited again yesterday with a friend. To my utter amazement, after finishing my last sip of coffee, while considering whether to contine with lunch, I was approached by this middle aged woman who I assume to be the owner and was ordered to leave as we had only ordered coffee and she wanted the table for other customers. It was very embarrasing and we were aware of other customers watching. We had only been there for fifteen minutes, five of which were spent waiting for the coffee (half a cup of coffee half was froth).I will never visit this tearoom again while it remains under this ownership. I belong to a group who were planning to visit this cafe today as they do fairly regulalry, but after hearing about my experience they decided to go elsewhere.Maybe this 'lady' would like to consider that she may need to depend on local custom during the winter months when there are not so many tourists.I would like to add that the other staff seemed to be very friendly and polite.

Perfect weather, and a lovely lunch outside at this quiet little cafe. Sandwiches and the scone were of good quality. Had a long chat with the owner, it's always good to get some local info! Loads of nice walks nearby, we walked along the river (heading away from the coast), if you don't mind cows it was idyllic. Also there was cycle hire available just by the tram station, but don't forget the hills, I had to walk up a few, and seriously brake on the downhill runs. Lovely way to see a bit more of the countryside for an hour or two though.

The tea room is ideally located just down the road from the tram stop so is a great place to stop off for a cream tea before the return journey! The gardens were in full bloom and were beautiful. A lot of attention to detail has been paid to the garden. My 2 year old loved looking at the Llamas, chickens and horse in the garden. The inside was decorated nicely and the service was very good. Went to visit this tea room for lunch today. When I asked for a high chair for my toddler I was told to go to the ladies toilet to get one as that is where they are stored. I think this is very unhygienic, I wouldn't want to eat my dinner off a table stored in a toilet, so I don't expect my child to either. I was also expected to go out and get the high chair myself and negotiate the narrow doorways. We decided not to stay for any food/drink so cannot comment on this. I was very disappointed as it looked a very nice and quaint tea room.

Liddon's Dairy (and Tropical Tea Gardens) is a cafe / attraction on the outskirts of the lovely East Devon village / town of Colyton. If you are taking the tram from Seaton you will walk past it on your way from Colyton station to the village centre. The ambience, in fine weather, is distinctly continental with parasols and outdoor seating on a sun-drenched patio. The menu is small but the simple food is delivered with style: I had the best Egg Mayo baguette I have ever had - real yellow-fresh chopped egg, not the usual pale homogenised paste. The roll was crisp and fresh, not thawed out and soggy, and all accompanied by an unusual (and delicious) fresh garden herb salad. Brilliant. Ice cream (of course), cream teas, cakes and bakes - all fresh and good. There are unusual breeds of poultry, guinea pigs and Llamas for children to see while you relax with your cake and coffee. Well worth a trip.

Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!
